Strange formatting and symbols appearing in podcast description fields

Hey guys!
Hope you're enjoying your weekend so far. I'm having problems with the text formatting in the podcast description sections. For some reason strange characters are added in the podcast description fields that aren't there when I initially enter them in. Examples "nbsp;" "mdash", "ersquo;s". I feel like its related to the font or when I use punctuation. Can anybody here point me to the solution?

These are incomplete html codes for characters - you've left off the ampersand which must begin them.
is a non-breaking space
’ is the apostrophe or quote - '
&emdash; is a wide dash.
Firstly: you cannot use these named codes in XML, you have to use the numerical equivalents. If you are handwriting the code you can use ' for the apostrophe. But in general you should avoid using any of these codes: the iTunes Store usually does not render them but displays them. You should stick to plain text and paragraph returns. You've used a straightforward apostrophe elsewhere - 'She's been pIcked up by al the major labels' - and that's worked; so use that instead of the quote, use a straight dash - instead of the emdash, and replace the non-breaking space with an ordinary one.

Strange "pie chart" symbol appearing - Mail must be force quitted

Just yesterday randomly half way through the day, a strange 'pie chart' symbol appeared next to my Inbox, and though I can receive mail and send mail, Mail.app (after 1 min of being open) makes my CPU skyrocket to 100%. I cannot quit Mail, and the only way I can force quit is via Activity Monitor. The usual altcommandesc combo is not bringing up Force Quit. So 2 issues:
1. What's up with Mail? I'm using POP via Gmail as my main server.
2. How do you get force quit to show up?

Sometimes my mail will send, but the process will take anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes to do so. More often than not, though, it just disappears into a black hole. Plus, this just started happening two days ago. All was well before then.

Bitmaps and Symbols Appearing Red?

Hey guys I am pretty new to flash and cannot figure this out.
I am using Flash to create a website and I am having issues. When I
am editing everything looks normal, but when I test the movie a few
of my graphics are displayed as just solid red. I have no idea what
is going on, even my teacher at school is dumbfounded. I have used
all sorts of different file formats for my imported bitmaps, jpg,
png, gif... but none have worked. Also this is a problem that seems
to only be happening on intel Macs. Works fine on a PPC mac and on
windows... Any suggestions? Here is a photo of the problem...

I don't have an answer, but may have a clue to lead to one.
That red is a familiar sight. If you create a movieclip containing
a jpeg or other raw graphic from the library, and then delete the
raw graphic from the library, you end up with a red movieclip
that's the same size as the graphic.
That fact that it apparently works in other machines may mean
that whatever the intel Macs are doing, they aren't supporting
inclusion of the image file in the movie.
If those red areas are supposed to be images, then try
replacing them temporarily with some Flash drawn graphic and see if
they display properly. If they do, then you may have to get some
info regarding what the intel Macs are doing (or the
browsers/players therein).

Strange previews and renders appearing with blue rectangle glitch

I am getting these strange artifacts on my previews and renders in PP Cs6. The footage is proresHQ. I have attempting adjusting every setting I know and doing a clean reinstall of PP. Any ideas?

Strange "I" and "L" appearance in exported PDFs

Does anyone know why the letter "I" and letter "L" appear larger and bolder in an PDF exported document from either Illustrator and InDesign?

I read in another forum a post by Leonard Rosenthol that this issue has been resolved in Acrobat/Reader 9.

I have seen this problem hundreds of times. It's a long
standing flash bug, and very annoying.
when I open a file containing many bitmaps and one of them
shows up red,
a quick look in the library shows <Bitmap Not Loaded>
in the preview window.
If you double click to try and re-load the image, Flash will
crash.
Presumably flash was unable to load the particular bitmap for
<technical reason beyond me>
The only solution I have is to recreate the bitmap art from
scratch, or from a secondary file I saved because this happens to
me so often. I sure wish they'd fix it...

Post to HTML help- strange format, and no QT movies...

Hi folks,
I'm having a little trouble with the "export to HTML" feature of keynote. Specifically, I have a presentation with some very nice animations. I understand that keynote normally doesn't save these as part of the HTML version.
OK, I'm fine with that. So I converted the animations in quicktime movies, popped the movies into the presentations in place of the animations, and guess what? It still doesn't work.
OK, I'm fine with that. (Not really, but hey.) So I decide instead to make the animation into a flash thingie, and put either the flash thingie or QT into dreamweaver. And the site just won't incorporate into dreamweaver- and it looks like all the files are some kind of flash files instead of HTML. I don't get it.
My question is, how is the best way to make a keynote presentation with a few minor animations into something that people can view on the web, animation intact?

All you'll ever get with the HTML export are images and nav arrows.
You could, however, export portions as movies (as you said you did) and edit the exported HTML to replace the big images with your movies. I'd stay away from Flash if you really want it to look good, or, make a copy of your file and delete everything but ONE slide each time, and export that one slide as SWF, then place that on the HTML page.
What you'd get is a slide show type preso that has video or flash on certain html pages, in place of the image. Make sense?

Strange formatting appearing as default

strange formatting marks are appearing as default across all documents, even the Pages templates... Any ideas why?

Strange characters and symobls print in the middle of a print job. Help.

In the middle of a print job, whether one page or several, it starts printing strange characters and symbols until the end of the job. It will do this in the middle of the page, or after printing one line of English and the rest of the page in gibberish.
It usually does this while printing off bank statements from the internet or a pdf file pulled from the internet. I don't think it has ever printed any of my documents.
However, it has done this while printing a bill received as an attachment to an email from a friend.
The next print job will usually be back to "normal". But one day, it did this many times during the day. Frustrating!

I had this happen to me with a PDF file once. I called Support at HP,
and they told me it was because I had labeled the PDF as "text" when
it actually has (technically) "pictures" in it -- the printer didn't know how
to print those "pictures" (symbols?) as "text," so it came out as gibberish.
Perhaps there's a teckie here who can tell you more eloquently. [And
what to do about it!]

Lyrics on iPod Photo, via podcast description

Hi everyone!
I love my iPod photo, except for the fact that it doesn't display the lyrics of songs, like the later models do. However, I was recently listening to an MP3, and by pressing the middle button to cycle through the different screens, I came across what looked like a lyrics screen with a vertical scrollbar! Total surprise! After investigating, I discovered that it wasn't a lyrics screen, but the contents of the "Podcast Description" field of the ID3 tag (the tag field code is TDS).
I suddenly realised that I could put song lyrics into this "Podcast Description" field, and they would be displayed on my iPod exactly like the lyrics screen on the newer iPods! Yay! The only slight problem is that I don't know how to add this ID3 field to my songs. iTunes doesn't allow you to edit this field (or any podcast fields), nor do any of the ID3 editors I've tried (ID3 Editor, Media Rage, etc).
So, my question is: Does anyone know how I can create and edit "Podcast Description" fields (TDS) in my MP3s? Maybe something in GarageBand?? Maybe something useful at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html ?

You can view lyrics on your iPod, but not in the way that you wish to do so. Here is the alternative way. It may be of some help, but it is far from perfect for your purpose.

I am working on CRM technical part.
In the process of creating a sales request/Complaint, the end user input the data in category 1 and category 2 fields. In the same page/screen there is a field called Description. What ever the value user enters in the Category 2 field should appear in Description field before the serveice ticket is saved.

Hi,
U can assign an event to your Description field. End user will input value in Category2 field and then will click on description field. IAt this moment event will get triggered and in this event U need to write code to fetch value of category2 and then dispay this value through a variable assigned to Description field in .htm page.

Auto-populate Computer Description Fields in AD Console

Hi guys,
I need some help with populating computer descriptions in AD. I have searched this on google numerous times and everytime I find a script there are loads of comments with "changes" saying it doesn't work.
What I am looking for in the description field is the last logged in user and the date and time of when they logged in. Now as we don't have multiple tenant machines this only needs updated every few days.
I want a solution really to find machines that aren't used, as the IT asset register is severely out dated! Plus this is always a handy feature to have for future reference.
If anyone knows of a script online somewhere or has one they use successfully I would greatly appreciate it and also some advice on how to deploy it (I know it gets added in to GPO but not 100% sure how).

Where is the Description field in Android bookmarks sync'ed from desktop?

I have recently installed Firefox Android 24.0 on my HTC Sensation 4G (Android 2.3.4) and sync'ed it with my desktop computer. When I edit a bookmark, I see only Name, Location and Keyword; no Tags or Description fields. I use the Description field for logon criteria for many websites and it's one of the main reasons I switched from the default browser to Firefox Android.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Back button still malfunctions (i.e., kicks you out of Firefox rather than back to the Firefox homepage) even if Firefox is booted directly. I just installed Firefox 14.0.1 on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet SCH-I800, firmware version 2.3.5. (Otherwise it looks and feels great.)

Try putting the character " in the description field (under edit/preferences/info)

Choose edit/preferences and type something in the description field under the info tab. Make sure to include the character ". Then preview the project or publish it and watch it.
I used Captivate 4 and Windows Vista when I made the discovery. It took me a while to figure out that this was the cause of my problems. Hopefully this is not an issue in Captivate 5. After what I heard the through away the old source code. Good thinking! Soon my PC will get an update from 4 to 5.

Ahhh yes. My bad. Indeed I do see the odd behavior! It's as if one has clicked the Info button. But there are other elements all messed up too!
