Strange glitch at start up..

Recently got a new Mac Pro 2.66 ghz. The unit displays a weird glitch directly after the grey Apple screen at startup. It looks like a checkered like pattern for a split second. I have rebooted other Mac Pros at the Apple store and they don't appear to do this. However, the unit appears to operate fine during normal use. I tried reformatting the main drive and this didn't solve the issue. Any ideas? I will post video if needed. Thank you all for your time.

Is there an SMC reset button on this model?
Yes there is…

… although you need to open up your MP to get to it. The standard way is the simplest.

  • Strange screen "glitch," during start-up.

I am a little concerned about my brand new MBP, though everything else seems to be working fine.
When I start-up and the grey apple screen comes up, and the gear icon finishes spinning, as the screen switches to blue, there is a strange glitch. The screen flashes briefly, and the apple appears for a millisecond, offset an inch or so to the right, and then the start-up finishes normally.
There is also a similar "glitch,' when starting up in Vista on the MBP's bootcamp partition.
Windows starts up, but as the final screen loads after logging in, the screen flashes off/on very briefly before Vista finishes loading it's welcome folder, window.
Again, everything else seems to be working fine. Hardware tests show all is normal, no permissions errors, no disk utility repairs needed, and no problem files found with Diskwarrior.
I have also previously run an archive and install of Leopard, to deal with another earlier issue. Still the glitch...
Anyone else experience this, or have any answers.

i just experienced something similar. BRAND NEW MBP with tons of problems running leopard. my computer ran out of power completely last night because i forgot my power adaptor, so when i plugged it in this morning, and opened the case, i saw a totally gray screen that lasted for about 15 seconds, when it flashed into my desktop with all the applications i had opened when it lost power, HOWEVER, it was also grayed out with a strange meter (much like the ones that pop up for brightness or volume) filling slowing in white. After about 15 seconds of that, the screen un-grayed and looked normal EXCEPT for the top toolbar with the time, power, etc had a ton of tiny black glitchy lines through it and i couldn't see any of the information. the rainbow pinwheel was turning and turning forever and ever when that stopped and i was able to click on the desktop. at that time the glitchness disappeared and everything went back to "normal". Except for the fact that my keyboard stopped working! and i had to reboot. the black glitchy lines worry me.

  • Strange glitch in music files

I did the senuti thing and got all of my music, but when I put it onto my new computer there were strange glitches. All songs still start but a lot of them skip to the next song aftr 10 seconds or so. I can manually go past th glitch and hear the rest of the song, which is wierd. . .just to be rid of this problem is there a way I can search for the song in my library with said glitches? any suggstions would be welcome

Go to your iTunes preferences under the section "Playback". See if there's anything weird there. I would recommend of manually putting your songs into your iTunes library rather than using software.

The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

1.5-3 minute boot up as opposed to 15-20 seconds

why it takes a long time to load a lot of things.
    I have restored this
    from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.
What you need to do to regain your speed is to understand how your machine works
    Why is my computer slow?
Fix any and all issues in software following this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then follow this defrag method I've outlined
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
    Hope this assists.

  • Render problem - strange glitches after rendering in new PP 2014.1

    Hi there,
I've updated my Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 to 2014.1 and since then all my renders have strange glitches.
Both old (converted) and new projects. It's second day I can't render any usefull file. I've deleted media cache, tried not using any plugins nor effects at all and yet, it still doesn't work properly.

I've found, that happens only when I use lumetri looks in the sequence.
Any idea how to fix this?

  • Strange glitch ... very

    Hi all,
I encountered a very strange "glitch" today: whenever I try to dbl-click a clip in the timeline to open it in the viewer the little tabs (forgive me, I don't know what they're called) that indicate the destination audio tracks (usually A1 and A2) simply disappear.
I tried deleting prefs and repairing disk permissions to no avail. When I reopen the project the audio tabs are there but on dbl-click in the timeline and they're gone. Also creating a new sequence/project did not make a difference. I also discovered that the same thing happens when i drag a clip (any clip) into the viewer. It doesn't matter wether the audio tracks are locked, muted or whatever. Sometimes (but only sometimes) when I move a clip a bit along the timeline the little tabs magically re-appear ... ghost in the machine?
The worst thing about this is of course that since the tabs are gone, no target tracks are set, hence no audio gets into the timeline.
The project is DV PAL anamorphic, shot in HDV and downconverted from the camera. FCP 6.0.4 as part of FCS 2. All the other components (DVDSP, Compressor, Livetype, etc) work just fine as far as I can tell.
... btw, I just did a clean install of everything a week ago, so I'm really at a loss here.
    any help greatly appreciated
    mish

Hi there and welcome to the community,
    That's weird...
Could you try doing a full reinstallation of the app, including removing your local cache/data files.

  • Strange noise on start-up followed by no entry sign

My Macbook Pro (pre black keyboard) started making a strange noise on start up - a very loud grating noise.
Now I get a 'no entry' sign on start up. I cannot progress any further than this sign.
Any ideas on a fix, please?
    Thank you.

    Karl:
Sounds like you are due for a HDD replacement. Try booting from the install disk, launch Disk Utility in the Utilities menu and see if the HDD appears in the sidebar. You can also boot from the Apple Hardware Test and run the extended test. However, from your description it sounds very much like the HDD. Hopefully you have an up to date backup.
Please post back with an update or further questions/comments. Also include detail or your computer (processor speed, RAM, etc.) in your profile and/or response.

  • Something strange when archlinux start up

    Hi,
I have something strange when archlinux starts up.
At the beginning, the resolution of screen is the same with the resolution setting in menu.list of GRUB. Then after the prompt "bring up lookback interface OK", the screen splashes one time, then the resolution of screen changes to a higher one.
    Anybody has encountered this problems?
    Thanks

    Thank you. It works

  • Strange glitch involving user accounts on my machine...

Ok, this all started yesterday, I don't know if this is just some weird glitch or if it some sort of function I'm not aware of, that was suddenly activated. There is 2 user accounts on this computer, M(which is myself) and A(my mother)).My father was in my account and was trying to customize it for himself, since I no longer use this ibook. But instead of changing the name in the user settings, he clicks on HD and RENAMES the 'M' tab, as 'rudy'.
I didn't think much of it, but when he updated and restarted the computer, when he logged back into the 'M' account, EVERYTHING was reset to the default settings, as if its never been used before. All bookmarks are gone, itunes is blank, everything was seemingly gone as if another account had just been created from scratch.
It took me a while to notice that when I click on HD there is now 3 accounts now(eventhough when i log in, there is only 2). in the users tab there is a folder for 'M', 'A' and 'rudy' with 'M' being the one that is still displayed as the little home icon.
The weird thing is that when I click on the 'rudy' folder, all his original files, photos and music is all there. I can't locate any of these files in spotlight or anything, but the files are clearly IN this rudy folder and open properly, whilst the 'M' account is completely empty of any photos or music.
Its kind of like one account became two accounts, with all the information being confined to its own folder for whatever reason..
I haven't messed with anything yet, but I'm wondering if this can be fixed? is it possible to get back my original files and settings in this main account? I can easily back everything up and start anew, but there's really a lot of stuff i'd have to sort through, and i'd like to avoid that if possible.

This sounds to me like the 'Rudy' directory is your original 'M' directory. I'm guessing that when you logged on OSX requires a user's home directory to carry the same name as the account it relates to; it couldn't find the 'M' directory so it created a blank one.
I would expect that if you rename the new "M" directory to "M_Blank" or similar, then rename "Rudy" to "M". Log-out and back in again, all will be as before.
Before you do this I would like someone to confirm that the problem doesn't go any deeper. However, that's what I would do, then change the user account name in the correct way using account management.

What I know is that CWMLITE is to do with OLAP. This tablespace is used to store OLAPSYS schema.
<<To my surprise, the file /u01/CADDB/data/cwmlite01.dbf is a data file of the tablespace CWMLITE from another Oracle DB instance named "CADDB">>
If the file doesn't belong to your database then it could be that you are using a wrong controlfile.

  • Powerbook won't get past strange icon upon start-up

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G4 that will not go past this strange icon when I try to start it up. I get the traditional Mac start-up sound, then it takes a long time to do anything, then I get a small icon that is in the shape of a folder. It has the Mac face (it is still "happy") and it will pop a question mark up over the folder.
Last night, it was making a strange noise, so I ran the Disk Utility and it said the hard drive appeared to be OK. This morning, it will not go past the icon. Is it saveable? It is pretty old (6 years).

Your hard drive is dieing or possibly dead! Unplug all peripherals, let the machine cool down and persist in starting up. It 'may' boot so you can back up your data. Try booting from the OS disc and run the Utilities to see if it can repair the issue. There are a few third party apps that may help in recovering data from the disc, but there are no guarantees they will work and, of course, they are not free. Sorry, no joy or easy fix for this one.

  • Help please! Strange glitch having to click mouse multiple times to save a file

    Hi,
I'm having a strange issue with Adobe Illustrator CS5 when I try to save as pdf. Basically I have to click save multiple times, sometimes over 100 times before it will ultimately save. Has anyone else encountered this weird problem and if so did you manage to find a resolution? I'm working on PC with Windows Vista.
Many thanks in advance for any help - it's driving me crazy!

    Hi OB,
Thanks for the reply. I had recently installed drop box so removed this hoping it might be the culprit, unfortunately not though, the problem remains.
I've also tried the 'usual suspects' without any luck either.
It really is an odd problem and not one I've encountered before. I also have an occasional issue whereby I'm unable to 'save for web' (only in Illustrator) - the option isn't selectable and even the keyboard short-cut doesn't work. It's glitch galore some days!

  • Strange glitches during gaming

I'm an ut2k3 fan and have been playing this game for a while with these settings (signature), yet recently, after all my probs which i've posted before (ram fried,  monitor remaining standby etc), there is still 1 remaining.
I'm sure u have heard of frames per second, number of pictures shown to u in a sec. Basicly the higher the better.
Now, for my pc, that should definatly not be a problem (good specs and tweaked ut2003.ini) but it is since a week.
When i start a game my fps (frames per sec) stay stabilised @ high rate (93 being blocked by gamesource @ online games as not to go higher and need more bandwith), but after a short while i get glitches. The fps drop quickly from 93 to 20 (unplayable) and after 3-4 secs go back up for 4 secs of 93 and go back down etc etc.
Yesterday, i could connect a sound to the glitches, the sound of my cpu-fan speeding up.
Can it be that a malfunctioning psu is causing this problem or would u guys think that there was more involved to it?
I have thought of 3 possibly malfunctioning hardware:
    - broken mobo (more specificly the agp bus)
    - cpu
    - psu
Tried the sandra benchmark tool to get more info, but from my understanding the cpu etc has a grafic that does not match the other reference grafics. That is for example, all references have a downword grafic and mine starts low, goes up, goes down, stays there, goes down and goes up.
Altho this could mean the cpu is broke, it could also mean that it doesnt get the amount of power it needs from the psu.
Does anyone of u know a way to be sure its one of these 3?
Ofcourse many tnx for the help, much apreciated

Yes, if your PSU isnt providing enough power and you are playing a high-resource, high power game it can distort graphics or cut it off totally (which is your case).. i am having a graphics card problem as of now, my graphics are distorted when i play UT2004 (ESPECIALLY when zooming in with the lightning gun).. i have a 9800 Pro, and i am taking it back today, but if that doesnt solve the problem, i am DEAD sure is is my 12V rail on my PSU.. i have a 450W, but only 14A on 12V rail... kinda low, so that could be causing it.. if you have a spare PSU, use it and see if the same prob stil happens... otherwise, last resort is your motherboard... what i would do:
    1. Unplug EVERYTHING in your case but essentials
    2. Plug Motherboard (with ram and CPU) in
       CPU fan
You HD with OS on it only
DVD or CD drive (if needed to play game)
       - and your video card
    3. See if you still have same problem, and if you dont you know it is your power supply... If you still have the problem, it still might be your PSU, but you really dont know
    4. If you can get a good 450-500 watt PSU with a 20A - 12V rail to test with, see if it STILL wont work
    5. If all this fails, still same problem, it would have to be your AGP slot so you should return your MOBO to MSI

  • 'Wobbling' Apple logo - Strange Behavior on Start-Up

Couple of days ago my iMAC started behaving strangely on starting-up.
Having pressed the on button the grey Apple logo appears on the white background but there is a lot of distortion. The logo is wobbling and there appears to be hashes all over the screen.
After a while the blue OS X screen appears with the progress indicator, which looks fine. Then it goes to a grey screen with hashes all over it and does little else.
When I turn the machine off using the power button it normally restarts okay and I can use the machine normally with no problems occuring. Turn the machine off for more than an hour or two and the problem recurs!
The only piece of software I've downloaded recently was iStumbler because I was having issues with interference from neighboring wireless modems but I can't see how this would affect the start-up routine.
Any help would be most gratefully received.
    Duncan
PS: I’ve performed a hardware test and everything passed OK!?

Sounds like a classic case of the iMac G5 first generation capacitor issue to me, Duncan.
Check out http://www.apple.com/uk/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/ for details about the free repair program.
