Strange Green Dots/Brighter areas

I just started having a display issue with my 2011 Macbook Pro. Patches of the screen show small, faint green dots spaced in an even pattern. They don't appear in screenshots, and appear faint even when the screen is black, but are nonetheless visible. In addition to this, there's two "splothces" near the middle of the screen that seem to be brighter than the rest, which is especially noticeable when the screen is white. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Sounds like a hardware issue; I'd bet on the LCD display going bad. Take it to be fixed asap -- I hope it's still under warranty...

I seem to have lost the red, green, and yellow dots that are in the upper left hand corner that close or minimize the page.  How can I get them back?

You may have to try a general OS X troubleshooting process to see if the issue goes away by doing this...
Have you tried: starting the computer in SafeBoot mode, with shift key held down; a login screen should appear after a time, and then the regular desktop. At this point, locate Disk Utility in utilities folder, and run 'repair disk permissions' on the startup volume, usually the name given the hard disk drive as it appears on desktop. After Disk Utility is finished the permissions repair, restart the computer normally.
...The iTunes player has free support only through the duration of the hardware product's complementary or AppleCare extended plan coverages, so though you can download a newer version, that is not the same as free support for an issue. However, the iTunes Store or App Store has a different factor for their product.

There is an iTunes area in Apple Support Community discussions for more topics like this; except for when they involve a hardware product where an OS X is involved. If your computer is NOT a powerPC (an 'intel'-mac) the topic would more naturally need to be posted where that hardware and later supported OS X version topics get seen. So that is why one asks 'on what Mac running what version...' instead of writing four paragraphs in a wide angle reply. The details about your iMac and the OS X say more; without them, more questions arise.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IPhone 5 Camera - green dot in bright light

    Hey,
I just noticed a prominent green light on all pictures that I took with my iPhone 5 in bright light conditions - sun or articifial light came from the front.
Changing the angle, as suggested to have a workaround purple fringing, wouldn't help and is not helping at all as the green dot appears on the very same position each time.
Who else is facing the green dots?

Same problem here, today I took some 20 photos of a cotton field. The pics were beautiful EXCEPT there is a very prominent green light in the bottom middle of more than half the photos?  Just counted, the green light shows on 13 out of 21 pictures?! They're taken at different angles but the dang green dot is pretty noticeable on more than half of them?  Some pics were taken at almost identical angle and location yet one pic will have the dot while the other won't??
Didn't know how to post pics here but this thread shows what I'm talking about:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4384663
Those dots are very annoying, destroyed otherwise gorgeous photos for me.
Is there a solution to this besides using different angles?  (Mine were and still >50% of pics had the green dot?). I can tell this is an awesome camera, the pictures when there's no dot in them are gorgeous.  BUT, should I be planning on deleting half of my photos from now on?  I'm concerned...  :-(

  • 3 green dots on my image from the built in camera is this normal?

Whenever I use skype for video calling, Ichat, or photo both there are 3 green dots on my image. They're just anoying and can be seen by the people I'm video chatting with. Is this normal? I can see that beside the camera there are dots one on each side. Are they BOTH suppose to light up green when the camera is in use? Mine, only the right one lights up when in use. Is this something that I should be worried about? Thanks!

    Hi,
If you have one of the very newest Macs and the Manual refers to the Internal Camera as  "Face Time" one then it could be capable of HD in some apps.
I have a USB External camera in use with my G4 Computer
In this pic I tilted it to capture an Overhead light as well as the top of my head.
The Pic was taken about 7.45 in the evening  (I am about 100 miles west of London so it is still quite light outside).
As you can see the Lens cannot cope with the Brightness of the overhead bulb (it is only 50watts) and visual distortions appear as well.
Not only are there the larger flare effects but between the red and blue arrows there are also radiating white lines towards my head.
Your Screen will reflect what is in the room.
How glossy it is will effect the amount you notice.
With a darker background you are likely to notice that you can see your own reflection.
Tilting the screen will move your reflection up or down and possibly at some angles you will not be able to see yourself (you would "drop off" the bottom as you close the lid on a laptop for instance)
If I place a light behind my screen so my face is lit up when it is darker here then it reflects off my glasses and people cannot see my eyes.
I can imagine the case if you wear glasses and have the screen at a certain angle then the green Indicator light is being reflected back to the Camera and is showing up in the pic.
This would certainly "Drop Off" the bottom when you tilt the Screen further.
There may be something that has roundish surface that is behind you that is reflecting the green of the indicator light.
This is a pic of an Effect called Frosted Glass
It is supposed to look like the sort of glass your get in a bathroom.
I post it so you know the type of glass I mean.
My front door, which  is close to my computer,  has this type of glass but also with a wood effect pattern to it.
this has many ridges and grooves.
At times this produces prism type effects on the walls (I have my computer positioned so they don't get on the screen)
I can imagine that a similar effect may happen from a light that has a galss shade or one of those with coloured glass beads making up the shade is scattering green light in this case all round the room and you just happen to see three of them in the video feed picture.
My thought in the earlier post was an effect from the bevelled edge of a mirror that might be scattering light.
    Other causes
    You mention a light sensor.
My MacBook Pro has one somewhere that controls when the Keyboard backlight needs to light up.
I am not sure where it is on mine.
It may be that it has been repositioned on newer computers to the top of the screen.
It may also be something to do with the camera as it maybe HD, to actually indicate there is not enough light to do a HD pic.
However I can't see any indication of this in the Specs sheet for a MacBook Pro.

  • Tiny green dot in middle of screen

I noticed yesterday that I have a tiny green dot in the middle of my iPhone 3G screen. I have not dropped or damaged my phone in any way. This dot appeared coincidentally after upgrading to iOS 4 but I think it's just that...merely coincidental??
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

    Hi.
LCD screens have pixels which are made up of 3 sub-pixels of red, green, and blue. It is possible that one green sub-pixel may be stuck in the 'on' position. A quick internet search for the term 'stuck pixel' will reveal that this is a fairly common situation for LCD screens, not just those from Apple.
Now, one potential way to attempt to un-stick a stuck pixel is to use an application that activates all of the pixels on the scree at the same time, and can change the colors through the 3 primary ones of red, green, and blue, as well as all of them (white) and none of them (black). The free 'flashlight' app will activate all of the screens pixels, and you can set it to automatically 'strobe' through multiple colors of your choosing. So you may be able to use this app to 'shock' your screen pixel and un-stick it. It may or may not help, but it will only cost you a little bit of your time (and no money) to try it.

I was just wondering what do the different color circles mean when I've located my iphone. So far I've seen a green dot with a green bigger outlined circle around it , a gray circle , a gray circle with a gray bigger outline around it , a real big green circle like the whole circle is dark green. I'm mainly just wondering can you tell if they are texting or using the phone at the time or if its on off or on vibrate is that what those different colors mean?

  • Green dotted line instead of solid???

What does a Green dotted line instead of solid line mean on the wireless map???

Well the Green dotted line shows that you have functional wireless connectivity with the computer, however not all wireless devices are displayed with the dotted green line.
But basically the solid green line shows for the functional wired connection.

  • I have a green dot on my Iphone 5

Hi, I bought my iPhone 5 16GB from bulgarian operator "M-tel" on 11/24/2012 with 2 years warranty. But now I have a problem with my display, on the screen I have a green dot (I think it's a bad pixel). My question is : Are the "M-tel" authorized to repair the phone or they have to replace it.?
    Here's the problem
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=sg7u48&s=6

Yes. They are. The carrier is the company that will offer support in Bulgaria. Apple replaces the iPhone, they do not repair them. I do not know what the carriers will do. Call them and ask.

  • I don't have any icons in facebook anymore, faces or message notices or green dot letting me know who is and isn;t on line

I noticed last week that when I was in facebook from Mozilla/Firefox I had no green dots showing in the chat list. These green dots let me know who is and who isn't on line. The message board, friend reqests do not show. I used to have icons on that. And if I:m in chat and I add a happy face they no longer show.

See [[Images or animations do not show]]
It is possible that you clicked "Block Images" in the right click context menu while trying to save an image.
See [[Options window - Content panel]]
*A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
*A click on the "More Information" button will open the Security tab of the "Page Info" window (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
*Select the first image link and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • Black Macbook : GREEN DOT DISCOLORATION

I bought my black macbook just a little more than a week ago. Its been good to me...but yesterday, i simply closed it to put it to sleep - i went to sleep - woke up and there was a green dot on the bottom of the frame of the screen, just left of the M of the "MacBook" logo. I would imagine that Apple will claim this as a cosmetic issue and will not take any measures to help me out - but just to check, has ANYONE heard of this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I had this problem after owning a black macbook for three days (I returned this macbook because of some other problems it had and exchanged it with a White macbook). I had no idea where it came from - it suddenly appeared on the wrist area of my macbook - very small green dots. I tried to clean them, but couldn't get rid of them. I thought it is more of the issue of paint peeling rather than discoloration. But who knows?

  • HT3728 I only show airport extreme when I open airport utility it used to show both with a green dot somehow only extreme is showing with the green dot

can not figure out why when opening airport utility the green dot with the airport express picture is gone I only see the green dot next to extreme I did not change anything I only clicked on the dot and it was gone

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default.  It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence.  Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.

  • In iPhone Maps, how to swap the red and green dots?

In IPhone Maps, how do I swap the default colors so that it guides me FROM a red dot (my current location) TO a green dot (destination)?
Red->Green seems much more intuitive to me than the default, which confuses me daily.
    Thanks.

I wonder if this might be a case of double color management. Color management needs to be managed either by Lightroom or by the printer driver, but not both. If both are trying to do the color management you can expect results like you are seeing.
