Strange headphone volume behaviour

G'day everyone.
Yesterday I received a brand new iPhone 4 and today, after syncing all my music, I noticed a strange problem when listening through any earphones. When the music is playing at low volume it is very muffled, though when the volume is turned up close to full, the audio seems to jump into a state of clarity where it suddenly sounds normal.
I was on the phone to apple about this problem and whilst I was on hold I decided to plug in my headphones to see if they worked for calls... they did, so I decided to test further and see if my music was working... it was, but as soon as I hung up from the call and tried the music again it went back to being muffled until the volume was turned to full. Apple suggested a hard reset which did not help, any other ideas?
Cheers.

I think I have found the reason of the "strange behaviour".
Here's the story (I use the name TAB1 for a table in this example).
I've created TAB1 using external tables to import txt-saved data in the DB.
After this step I've noticed that if you remove the txt file with the data from the working directory, the data disappear from the DB.
So I've created a copy of TAB1 using ODM interface that has automatically named the newly craeted table (something like: TAB14530959847, with many digits after the original name).
I've erased TAB1.
At that point my populated table was on the DB, but I wasn't happy with the new name.
So I've created another copy of TAB14530959847 and called it TAB1 (I guess there are better ways to rename a table, but I am a total beginner and unaware about it).
This is what creates the strange behaviour.
Now I have the table with the name I want, but I am not able to see it from SQL plus, that says that the table doesn't exist.
I've made experiments: if I rename TAB14530959847 into whatever I want (except for the original name TAB1) everything goes fine.
I bet oracle keep a trace somewhere of the original name and relates it to what is in fact a dropped table (TAB1) and it's not supposed to be there anymore.
well. that's it.
hope this can be useful for someone who's experimented this problem.
cheers

  • [solved]Audigy 2 zs headphone volume

    I have a soundblaster audigy 2 zs soundcard.  I just bought a special cable that allowed me to connect the sound card to my front panel mic/headphone plugs. (creative used a weird connector that is pin compatible with ac97, but no ac97 connector would fit it!)  I've played around with the volume settings in alsamixer, but I cannot separate the headphone volume from the main (analog) volume controller.
    I would like to have separate volume settings for the main speakers and for my headphones.  Alsamixer actually has an Item called "headphones" but it doesn't seem to do anything.  Has anyone gotten this to work?  If this isn't possible, can someone recommend a soundcard capable of this?  The more I learn about this soundcard, the more I realize that Creative put out a very strange and impractical product.  Back in the day it seemed like soundblaster was the card to get if you ran linux.  Is this still true?

    LOL.  This is a nonissue for me since I discovered that my headphones actually have their own volume control!

  • ALSA - Master volume no longer having an effect on headphone volume

    I use ALSA and have both my 'front' (speakers) and 'headphone' audio volume set to max. Then I control the two by adjusting the master volume.
    Since my last system update this worked fine however now when I change the master volume it only affects the sound coming from my speakers and my headphones are constantly at max unless I specifically change the headphone volume in 'alsamixer'. This is inconvenient since I have the master volume controlled by hotkeys.
    I know I can work around this and hotkey my controls to change both the master and headphone volumes but this leaves room for things getting out of sync. Is there a way to revert back to the old method?

    Hi-
    "Essentially" a clone and a clone are not the same. There are alot of things that don't get copied when you simply drag folders. Pathways to aliases are one of them.
    Use SuperDuper! (the best IMHO) or Carbon Copy Cloner to get real bootable clones of your system and files.

  • Headphones volume controller not working on new macbook pro

    Hello,
    I recently purchased a new macbook pro (15" late 2013) and just noticed that when plugging my headphones (beats solo HD), the volume controller in the headphones doesn't change the volume of the laptop. The headphone controller works fine on my iphone, and on my older macbook pro (2010, running on mavericks too). I checked the Sound settings under System Preferences, and under the Input tab, the new macbook doesn't recognize the headphone microphone either, which my old macbook pro still does. In terms of sound, the headphones work well, and under the Output tab, the Headphones appear, as normal. The sound can also be adjusted using the keyboard keys and the volume adjust on screen, but not with the headphones volume controller, which seems odd to me.
    Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks for your time!
    Melissa

    Hi,
    I also noticed this... when I use my old earphones (the white Apple ones that come with the iphone) on my new laptop, everything works fine, including the microphone, volume control, skipping songs... etc. But my other headphones are not recognised at all, just as audio output and nothing else.
    My old macbook, however, still fully recognizes both my old earphones and my "troublesome" Beats headphones, even after the latest system update, as does my iphone
    So I still don't know what is happening.
    Just telling you this so that you make 100% sure your earphones are faulty before discarding them!

    My iPhone only has "headphone" volume, no "speaker" volume.How do I fix this so I can hear phone calls?

    The phone may be stuck in headset mode. Rapidly plug and unplug a headset 10x to free up the switch inside the jack.

  • Headphone volume too loud in Facetime calls - iPad Mini Retina 7.1.1

    Hi,
    I have an iPad Mini Retina Space grey 32GB Wifi version updated to the newest iOS 7.1.1.
    I've noticed that the headphone volume during Facetime calls is always extremely loud even on lowest volume setting and there's no way to lower the volume further down. It's independent of the person I call, and the same problem appears in both in Facetime video and Facetime audio calls.
    The bug only appears in the Facetime app and only after inserting the headphones and (not noticable when using the speaker). Setting a volume limit in Settings doesn't affect this loud volume during Facetime calls. I've tried 3 different headphones and I've also done a full reset of the iPad and setting up a completely new iCloud account.
    I also have an iPad Mini (1st gen) and an iPhone 4 and I don't experience this bug on those devices.
    Have anyone experienced the same bug? Any solution?

    pandora?      once I got used to it, it bacame second nature to simple reach over and toggle the hotspot off and on.  not great if you have the constant need, but if you have the constant need, it wouldnt be shutting down in the first place.
    If this is a big issue for you, and there is no persistant wifi available, you might think about a standalone portable hotspot.  Pretty much every carrier in the US has one they would be happy to sell you, along with a data plan.

  • CSM : Strange Round-Robin behaviour

    Hi,
    During validation tests, I am observing a strange server selection behaviour, on independent GET requests (no cookie included) : When a connection request arrives in the CSM within a time window of about 20 seconds after the previous request, then the CSM correctly selects the next real server in the farm (round-robin). However, if the second connection arrives more than 20 sec after the previous request, the CSM selects the same server as for the previous one. Everything looks like the round-robin algorithm would be "reset" after this periood of time.
    Is it a normal behaviour ?
    By the way, how is the server list organized in the CSM RR algorithm ?
    Thank you
    Yves Haemmerli

    Gilles,
    As you requested, I send you the traces showing that when sessions are established with long delay between them, the round-robin load balancing is not consistent.
    Here are some important infos :
    - Client IP address is 141.122.142.197
    - VIP address is 160.213.139.14
    - We NAT the client with the VIP address
    - Servers addresses are :
    -> 160.213.139.163
    -> 160.213.139.164
    -> 160.213.139.165
    -> 160.213.139.166
    -> 160.213.139.171
    -> 160.213.139.172
    -> 160.213.139.173
    -> 160.213.139.174
    I ran two tests. Fore each of them I send you one trace showing the frames (HTTP on TCP port 26000)between the client and the CSM, and a second trace showing the frames between the CSM and the servers. In the trace, please forget about the HTTP code 401 returned by the servers). Also, note that the sessions are kept open by my session generator, in order to do the test.
    In the first test, I sent 16 sessions in the raw without delay between them. Load balancing is perfect, each of the eight servers receives 2 sessions.
    Than, I sent 16 sessions, one after the other, with several seconds between them. As you can see, the load balancing is uneven in this case.
    I can't understand the behaviour as the GET requests in both tests are exactly the same...
    Thank you for your help,
    Yves Haemmerli

  • My volume doesnt work and when i press the volume button it shows the headphones volume on the screen without any headphones being plugged in. what can i do to fix this?

    My volume on my iPad doesnt work, when I press the voulme button it shows the headphones volume on the screen without any headphones being plugged in. Is there a fix for this?

    Try going to settings> general > reset> reset all settings. If that doesn't work. Place a headphone jack in there and just pull it out a couple times. The problem is either your iPad setting is stuck or there is actually a hardware problem and moving the jack in and out might fix it

  • Audigy 4 pro headphone volume cont

    Hello,
    I really can't seem to find the HEADPHONE VOLUME CONTROL......
    On the package and on the creative site it says there's a headphone connection with volume control on the external box. I really can't find one, only a mic/line-in volume control and a master volume control. There is no seperate volume control for the headphoe output is there?
    I lower teh volume of my headphone output, not my speakers, so if anyone knows where the headphone volume control is (as creative says there is) please let me know!

    From another post, you have plugged your headphones into the line out for the speakers.
    I darsay that as you have speculated on the other post, the sound card things that the headphones are part of the speaker syste and not headphones at all, hence the volume control issue.

  • Headphone Volume Reverts To Default

    Hi,
    After restarting my mac and inserting headphones the volume will always default to 50%. The speaker volume is not affected, it remembers the volume. If I turn off the mac with the headphones plugged in, and then turn it back on with them still plugged in it will remember the volume. Is this the correct behaviour or do I have a problem? It is certainly a problem for my ears. I have tried PRAM reset and deleting volume prefs.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    Run Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and set the Volume level for the headphones there and it should stick.

    I just talked to Apple Support and they are going to repair it for me, it's just I need to wait til Friday since I am broke from Christmas! Once I get paid, then I can dish out the 30 dollars to get a rental iPhone to hold me over. The restore temporarily fixed the touchscreen issue since it happened again hours later.
    Also, nobody I know who would have a spare AT&T phone doesn't come to mind so I can't just borrow a phone and start the repair process now, but the wait isn't too bad. At least they do not limit the iPhone rental to just physical Apple Store customers!
    Thanks for the help, folks. :V

  • I have no control over my headphones volume due to broken buttons. How can I change this?

    I need help trying to turn up the volume on my headphones.
    Now I can do it with the speaker as the vloume can be controlled in settings by scrolling the volume up and down.
    However when I came to listen to music today I could turn the volume down with the side buttons, but I couldnt turn it up. Now the volume is always down to mute and I cannot turn it back up.
    I think the buttons are broken but I wondered if anyone knows how I can reset this or get the volume back high again so I can use my phone with my headphones.

    Hahah.
    Something so simple!
    Ill buy a new pair of headphones, as this works with my partners headphones. didnt even think of it!
    Thanks

  • Strange disc utility behaviour with windows partition

    Hi,
    I have created a 30 gig partition for windows XP (FAT32) on my macbook, which all works fine, but back on the mac volume, I tried to make an additional 10 gig partition for which I planned to save all my audio work in Logic to. It appeared to create it fine, but the volume scheme was totally messed up in Disc Utility; i.e. the windows portion took up practically the whole scheme, there was 500 MB "unused" in gray, "Macintosh HD" had a tiny portion, which overlapped the blue used "system" part (also overlapped by the unused bit). I couldn't seem to fix this problem, yet doing command-i on all volumes gave the right numbers and it added up.
    Has anyone else seen any strangeness? All I can think of is that bootcamp isn't too happy with additional partitions, so disk utility goes a bit mad so to speak! I know that bootcamp will only create a windows partition on a single un-partitioned volume. Essentially, I just wondered if I could make more partitions after installing a windows partition.
    cheers,
    David

    Hi Philip
    Before you get too alarmed I think what Zeny described is, potentially, a totally different scenario to yours and not entirely applicable. From your description it doesn't sound like your PowerBook currently has any of the symptoms commonly associated with hard drive failure.
    That said it is possible that there may be a bad sector on the drive, which an erase whilst zeroing all data will resolve. At the same time it may also just be a software glitch.
    Either way, it is worth giving the PB and hard drive a full check with the likes of DiskWarrior, Drive Genius, Apple Hardware Test, etc.

    UPDATE...
    I have been in safe mode for a while... When I was login into safe mode the I suffered one of those graphical glitches... I took a photo. After that, when it finished to load the screen went black and nothing more happened... The computer was working... but not graphical interface at all... just a black screen.
    Then, I decided to force to turn off.... and try again to login into safe mode. That time worked well and normal.
    However, while I was in safe mode the mac behaved strange graphically, as you can see in this video. I really do not know if that is a normal behaviour in safe mode. Finally, while I was finishing the email to reply the apple support a heavy graphical glitch happened after the screen went black, as you can see in these photos ( 1, 2 and 3). I decided to turn of the computer and back to the normal mode.
    I have collected another console log, it can be seen in the previous link to the error logs or in this link. The glitch occurred around 14.10 h today.
    Thanks in advance for the help and your time!!! it is really appreciated!!!!
