Strange "I" and "L" appearance in exported PDFs

Does anyone know why the letter "I" and letter "L" appear larger and bolder in an PDF exported document from either Illustrator and InDesign?

Here is an older thread that discusses this problem pretty thoroughly:

I read in another forum a post by Leonard Rosenthol that this issue has been resolved in Acrobat/Reader 9.

Initializing arises with the following information: to proceed, open your download folder and locate the Adobe reader installer file, named Adobe reader installer [ XXX].dmg
It takes me back to steps that have already taken of locating down load file double-click to mount the disk image; double-click install Adobe reader; agreed by clicking open; entering name and password and clicking okay.
Did this several times with no success.

  • Entered Verbiage not appearing in exported PDF version of form

    Hello,
I have created an online application in Forms Central.  It works great, but if the end-user enters too much verbiage in any of the sections, it is often cut-off in the exported PDF version.  Is there a way to ensure all entered verbiage appears in the exported PDF version of the completed form?
    Thank you.
    -Mark

    Hi,
And  now you can make the field taller in the design tab, so that you can print all the text.
Or you can print the Detail view.

    Hope it will help you.

  • Images not appearing in exported PDF

I've created a document in InDesign CS5. When i export for PDF some images don't appear in the PDF. The images are either imported JPGs or shapes created in InDesign. Most of the images appear just some don't. I'm not aware of doing anything different in creating/importing these images.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Can anyone help me out?

That didn't work, but i copied images from other parts of my document that did work and pasted/resized to replace images that didn't import and that seemed to work.
still wish i could figure out why it happens in the first place so i don't have to do this other process.

  • Pictures not appearing on exported pdfs.

Hi,I am exporting reports in pdf format. I have a picture on the report in the report group header. I used the graphics picture to put the picture on the report. When the script runs and exports the report to pdf files, the picture is not appearing on the pdf files. Do anyone have any ideas? Thanks

    HI Beat!
There's an excellent post on Adobe's site that walks through the differences. It's at http://www.adobe.com/type/topics/info9.html
However, I believe the caveat about Open Type fonts refers to their extended character set capabilities. You can still see issues with any font that is probably tied to the design and metrics of that particular font. The best course of action is to see if a font will perform under the watermark feature. If so then you're all set. If not—try a different font.
All your fonts will appear in the dropdown menu. Adobe is most likely just calling on the OS to serve up its list of installed fonts. That shouldn't be relied upon as an endorsement that all of them will function properly in watermark. This is really more of a font issue than an Adobe issue. I have many fonts that just don't respond well in certain programs. And it varies by font and by program so its hard to blame the app more than the font.

  • Strange "I" and "L" appearance/behaviour

Does anyone know why the letter "I" and letter "L" appear larger and bolder in a PDF document I export from both Illustrator and InDesign?

    Start at the beginning

  • CS4: Desprately needing help-Box that appears in Indesign doesn't appear in exported PDF.

I put a box, which will be a frame around illustrations, in the master of this small book so that each illustration will be framed. The frame is colored. It looks great on the .indd file, but on the PDF, the frame is gone. I did it again, this time making the frame bigger (1 pt instead of .5 pt), and 100% color instead of 50%. Still didn't show. What's wrong? Of course I'm noticing this when I'm under a deadline and the printer is waiting. Yikes.
    Thanks.

Richard: the master where I created the box doesn't have any other layers. But you gave me an idea. I made a bigger box on the master and by golly, there the box was on the PDF. I guess the illustrations on the book pages were covering the box, which was really only on the master. The bigger box looks OK, although I'd like it smaller; it'll work. Thanks!

  • Strange formatting and symbols appearing in podcast description fields

    Hey guys!
Hope you're enjoying your weekend so far. I'm having problems with the text formatting in the podcast description sections. For some reason strange characters are added in the podcast description fields that aren't there when I initially enter them in. Examples "nbsp;" "mdash", "ersquo;s". I feel like its related to the font or when I use punctuation. Can anybody here point me to the solution?
Check out what I mean here. This happens in both the main description and in the individual show descriptions:

Thank you in advance guys! Really appreciate it

These are incomplete html codes for characters - you've left off the ampersand which must begin them.
      is a non-breaking space
’ is the apostrophe or quote - '
    &emdash; is a wide dash.
Firstly: you cannot use these named codes in XML, you have to use the numerical equivalents. If you are handwriting the code you can use ' for the apostrophe. But in general you should avoid using any of these codes: the iTunes Store usually does not render them but displays them. You should stick to plain text and paragraph returns. You've used a straightforward apostrophe elsewhere - 'She's been pIcked up by al the major labels' - and that's worked; so use that instead of the quote, use a straight dash - instead of the emdash, and replace the non-breaking space with an ordinary one.

  • Can't export PDF to word.

I've subscribed yesterday and still can't export PDF to word.

I have the same problem.  Have they fix problem? Should I ask for the refund?

  • OCR not showing up even with Export PDF downloaded.

So, I have the standard version of adobe reader and I have purchased Export PDF however, still it does not auto OCR when I triple click on the text box. I went to tools and the option is not even there. What do I do? I am completely lost. Is OCR only available with pro?

Not quite clear: do you use Acrobat Standard, or Adobe Reader with the ExportPDF service?

  • InDesign CS5 exports PDFs where EPS elements have low resolution

I am rather new to InDesign CS5. I am currently working on a magazine, where I use graphics in TIFF and EPS. The exported PDF shows graphics in correct quality (300 dpi - TIFF) and graphics with poor resolution -> EPS. How is that even possible? The problem disappears when I use .AI, but it should work with EPS to, shouldn't it?
I figured that it might have something to do with the Transparency Flattener Presets, am I right? My presets are set to "low resolution" and it is not possible to set them to "hight resolution", as InDesign refuses to remember those settings.
    Please help!

Well, I was just trying to figure out why it's happening and thought that it might have something to do with the transparency flattening.
My colleagues, who also work with InDesign (althought with older versions), always use EPS and they never have problems. But your advice is not to use EPS format, am I right?

  • Export PDF file as a file, not Interactive Form

    hi all,
The scenario is about exporting OTF from Bapi and I want to export PDF file through SAVE AS pop up instead of showing as Interactive Form.
The main treat is the enormous time consuming if the Bapi exports many number of lines of table. In this case, there's 1000+ lines of table then WD Java consumes 15+ to create a PDF showing on Interactive Form. Finally, WD Java app gives a short-dump screen as failing to update PDF. Then I prefer another solution which is EXPORTING PDF FILE AS A FILE THOUGH SAVE-AS POPUP INSTEAD OF SHOWING ON INTERACTIVE FORM.
Could you help me on this? Any matters, please feel free to let me know. Thanks in advance.
    Peerasit

    Hello,
You can try third party API to write into pdf file after getting data from Bapi. Search for Apache POI.
