Strange icon appears on my web pages

I have a web site and for a long time now this icon has been appearing in my editor and now it sometimes appears on my live web page this is the icon 
I have disabled all my plugins and add ons have disabled F7 someone had suggested the charset Currently using charset=iso-8859-1) was set incorrectly but my webmaster says that is not the cause, this is only happening in FF in IE it is ok, most of my pages are not affected yet some have 20 to 30 of these icons spread around the page, anyone with some fresh ideas would be appreciated.

I have cleared all current icons, mostly they occur in the back end of my site in my editor page, only recently they have been appearing on my published site. So wouldn't be able to give you access, was hoping someone may have experienced the same problem.
Thanks for the response

I believe that it's been originated and are spread from Google's Keyboard Navigation feature. As you may know, if you are using Google's Instant Search feature, you can use the keyboard to navigate Google's search result page.
I did turn off the Instant Search to disable Keyboard Navigation, but the blinking cursor is still blinking on every Google and non-Google web pages.
Next as a standard troubleshooting procedures for strange behavior I cleared cache and cookies , but it didn't help.
I was using Firefox 3.6, so I uninstalled 3.6 (kept my personal information) and installed the latest version (3.6.13), but it didn't fix the problem.
I don't see that cursor in IE. How can I get rid of it?
    Thanks in advance.

In Firefox 3.6 and later versions you can disable the F7 shortcut that toggles caret browsing by setting the pref accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut.enabled to false if you do not want to use that feature.

  • Many images do not appear on numerous web pages. How can I fix this? I have graphics enabled.

For quite some time many images just do not appear on web pages. I have taken a screen shot of a page to show what the problem is but can find nowhere to upload it so you can see for yourselves. Now what do I do?

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden "Menu Bar" temporarily.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
*Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
*If an image in the list is grayed and "<i>Block Images from...</i>" has a check-mark then remove this check-mark to unblock images from this domain.
Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the <b>about:config</b> page should be 1.
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
Note that these settings affect background images.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

  • Strange icon appears in the menu bar randomly

I'm using a late '13 macbook pro retina and recently I've noticed that a strange icon will popup in the menu bar somewhat randomly, though it seems to appear most when I access certain websites (ebay is the one I've noticed it happen the most).
The icon is between the power level and the date and time and appears in the spot where the keyboard language icon usually is. When I try to click the icon nothing happens and it just opens the language drop down menu. It disapears after a few seconds but when it appears a strange black flicker will appear at the top of my screen just below the menu bar.
    Thanks

  • HELP:  Strange icon appearing in upper right=hand corner of screen

    Hi,
For the last few days I noticed that the last few times I shut my MacPro 2.66 (OSX 10.4.10) down a small icon appears were the in the task bar would be on the far upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Just before the screen shuts off a small white square with a yellow triangle inside... in the middle of which resides a red !
It is only there for 15 seconds or so and then the machine shuts down. There is no other verbose display... just that symbol.
What is it? Anyone seen this before?

    Any ideas at all?

  • About:blank appears on each web page change slowing laptop

each web page, when opening, displays "about:blank" for a few seconds, then proceeds. Entire Firefox loading and page changes are slower.

You can look at the network.protocol-handler.external.mailto and other mailto prefs on the about:config page.<br />
You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.
    Filter: mailto
If network.protocol-handler.external.mailto prefs are user set (bold) then right-click and Reset them to the default value.<br />
You can also try to change the network.protocol-handler.warn-external.mailto pref to true.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Strange line appearing on my home page

I keep having a strange rectangular line appearing on just my home page below the banner. How can I fix this?

Thanks for the reply. It is just appearing on the actual web site, not in iWeb. Regardless of what computer the website is accessed from, the line still appears. I am not finding anything on the layout or view option in actual iWeb.

  • Strange icons appearing as computer starts up? Prolonged startup!!

Hi. I'm having trouble with my startup on my PowerBook G4 12-inch. However, I haven't noticed problems with any other apps or programs on my computer except for startup!
When I start it up, it plays the sounds at the start as always... And then this little image of a colour globe on a small grey puzzle piece, starts flashing for a while. Then it changes to an even smaller image of one of Mac OS's symbols, and changes between this and a question mark in a box.
    What's going on?? I don't get it!
Each time I start it up, this process of strange images and stuff goes for longer, before the progress bar comes up and it loads my accounts login page.
    can anyone help?? Please do!!
    Cheers,
    koko_87

Wow. I've never seen THAT before! A puzzle piece icon? Seems that your Mac is confused as to which startup system to boot from. You don't have multiple versions installed on your PowerBook, do you? (This is possible if you have partitioned your hard drive and have Mac OS X--a different version from your primary boot volume--installed on it).
For starters, let's let Apple help you out first:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58042
Then, if that doesn't work, I'll try to find more. (As I mentioned, I don't recall seeing a puzzle piece icon with a globe whenever I've had the rare occasion of a startup problem on my Mac. If this was Windows... which I don't use...).

  • Safari 8.0 no longer appears to cache Web pages.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, Safari no longer appears to cache anything. Pages reload each and every time a page change is made. It affects both backwards or forwards changes and does not matter if I use the arrow buttons in Safari or swipe across the MagicPad.
    As suggested on various other help sites;
I have removed all extensions from Safari
I have put Safari into single process mode
I temporarily removed the Cache folder from the Library so that Safari created a new one when it was restarted
None of the above had any effect, the issue remains.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue or knows how to fix it?

Hi Paul and Welcome to Apple Discussions
Do you have a similar fix for slow Safari 4.0.3 on an iBook G4 running OS X.4.11?
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use Ethernet or Airport (wireless) for your setup: Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
-Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, enter (copy/paste on separate lines) 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 in the DNS servers box - these are Opensource DNS codes.
When done, select OK, then "apply"
Last step: In the Finder, go to your Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open copy/paste lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.
    Restart Safari
In Safari Menu>Reset Safari. Select "empty the cache", then reset.

  • Icons not displaying in web pages

navigation icons are displayed as blank containing a 4bit code. I have a screen save example.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on ''Help'' (or click on ''Help'' in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

  • All links do not appear on a web page in Firefox 15.0.1 but do in IE 8 and 9

When I go to http://www.winknews.com/Hurricane-Central the page does not display the link for downloading the hurricane tracking software the is shown at the bottom center of IE 8 and 9. Also, the information for Hurricane Andrew is flush left in Firefox 15.0.1 but is centered, just above the download link for the hurricane tracking software.

I can see the link using Firefox when I scroll down the page.
If you have problems try clearing the cache, then try in safemode and disable all plugins.

This is probably a genuine offer to install Firefox 5 beta. You mention that you are using Firefox 4.0 beta 4, those who have installed a beta version of Firefox 4 are being offered the beta version of Firefox 5.
Firefox 5 is due for release on June 21st.
