Strange icon that won't go away

an icon I don't recagnize has appeared at the top of my screen Its 1xnext to a phone. The phone icon on the screen also has a red atersik on its top left. I have completely cleared my call list and it won't go away. Anybody recognize this?

Could be a missed call.
Go to your Messages folder > Menu > View Folders > Phone Calls and at the top of that list, click Menu > Mark Prior read.

Strange icon that won't allow update of Adobe Flash Player 17 for mac

When I download the newest Adobe Flash update for mac I get a strange icon.
When I double click to launch the update file, I get an even stranger window full of gibberish.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'm open. I have gone through every help file I can find for Adobe and nothing has helped so far.

Please remove the .mdlp from the file name, so that it ends in just .dmg.
We are seeing this behaviour with users that have MathLab installed and we are investigating why this is happening. FWIW, this happens to other software DMG files as well, not just the Flash Player installer. For some reason, when users have MathLab installed, when the DMG file is downloaded, it appends the .mdlp extension to it. When users attempt to launch it, instead of being opened with DiskImageMounter, which is what OS X uses to open DMG files, it opens using MathLab and the result is what you posted. If this happens in the future, just delete '.mdlp' from the file name and DiskImageMounter will open the DMG, instead of MathLab.

Initializing Email - Extra icon that won't go away

I recently changed Blackberry devices to a Pearl 8120. I am on BES so was given an enterprose activation code. During the first activation I got an error message so was told to try again. This time the activation worked fine and all services are running properly. However, I have an extra icon on the screen - the icon is identical to the "Email Settings" icon but description is 'downloading updates'. Clicking this icon takes you to the BIS email set up screen. If I follow the instructions and select my BIS email address, I get an email saying it has been set up and email will start to appear in 20 minutes BUT, the extra icon stays and the additional email icon (for the BIS service) doesn't. I can't work out how to fix this and would really appreciate help! Thanks!

Try a simple reboot: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

This happened to me twice lately. I finally got around it by double tapping the home key to go back to the homepage finding the app store that was running and flicked it up to get rid of it.

I FIXED IT.
The issue was a folder name. For some reason, a folder was name Fersions when it should have been called Version. I have no clue why it was named that way, but I named it correctly and the error disappeared.

Strange file in trash that won't go away?

I have a strange file that appeared in my Trash the other day. I tried to empty the trash multiple times, but it won't go away. Secure empty trash doesn't help, as it just gets stuck. Double-clicking on the file, getting info on the file, or dragging the file out of the trash just results in the item disappearing, only to reappear shortly thereafter. Here is a screenshot of the filename, as it is very strange (I am posting it as a picture so there are no font issues):

I have no idea what's going on. I tried repairing permissions to no avail. Should I run a disk utility such as Techtool or Diskwarrior? Is this a virus? Could this be related to my weird Time Machine issues (where Time Machine will come up with an error, see below for picture)?

If there are several locked files in the Trash, you can unlock them all at the same time at the command line. Follow these steps:
1. Open Terminal. It's located in /Applications/Utilities.  Type: chflags -R nouchg  Note: Type one space (not pictured) after nouchg in the line above, so that it ends in "nouchg ". Do not press Return yet. 
2. Double-click the Trash icon in the Dock to reveal the contents of the Trash. If necessary, arrange the Finder window so that a portion of the Terminal window is still visible.
3. Press the Command-A key combination to select all files in the Trash.
4. Drag the files from the Trash to the Terminal window.  Note: This automatically enters the pathname for each file. This eliminates the need to individually empty multiple Trash directories, particularly when multiple disks or volumes are present. 
5. Press Return. No special text message will be shown indicating that the command was successful.
6. Empty the Trash.
If the Trash does not empty or if you see a message in Terminal that says "usage: chflags [-R [-H | -L | -P]] flags file..." you most likely did not type the text in step 2 as indicated or did not leave a space. Repeat the steps if this happens.

I have a pornographic search title in the banner at he op of the page just below the bookmarks shortcuts icons. It appears when that part of the screen drops down a bit when the on screen keyboard opens up. Its a spam like link that won't go away.

You saved it on the bookmark bar. Hit bookmarks, bookmark bar, edit, then hit the minus to delete it.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Or Quit the mail app.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
Go back to mail and see if it is fixed.

How do I get rid of expired rental movies that won't go away

I have three rental movies, one from September, that have viewed and/or the rental period expired. The movies say expired on the iTouch and won't play. They won't go away and their are consuming disk space. The don't show up in iTunes.
How can I get rid of them?

Try this:
1. Open iTunes and have the device attached.
2. Click on the iPod Touch device (whatever you named it) in the left hand panel.
3. Click Summary.
4. Check "Manually manage movies and music".
5. Click the drop down arrow to the left of the iPod Touch icon.
6. Click Rented Movies.
7. Try deleting the unwanted movies again.

Ghost Rental in my IPOD Video Library...there's a video that I rented that won't go away...how to remove?

I rented a video on my ipod, watched it, and now it won't go away. I can't rewatch it either. When I sync, it is not on the computer as far as rentals. Can anyone help me remove this?

See if you have enabled 'VoiceOver'…
Open Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accessibility, select VoiceOver in the sidebar list, disable that if it is enabled. You may also see a keyboard shortcut listed there (e.g. cmd+F5), it's possible you hit that accidentally

"untitled DVD' that won't go away!

Recently I burned CDs and DVDs. Now there are to folders "untitled DVD" and "Utitled CD" in my finder window and I can't make them go away!

OK, to answer the first question it is NOT in the dock but in the sidebar of the finder window.
I have tried "just" holding the mouse button down to select the folder and make it go "poof" but still to no avail.
I cannot "select" or "move" the FOLDER icon that has a burn disk on it that says untitled DVD. Even if I just hold that mouse button down on the icon for ever when I release the button it says "the volume for "untitled DVD" cannot be found". I have searched the hard drive for "untitled DVD" hoping to find it and delete it but still with no luck.
I cannot remember which program I was using to burn the DVD but most likely it was the finder!
any more help? anyone? ideas? ~kt
