Strange image when inserting cross dissolve

Hello,
I am having an issue with the cross dissolve. Everytime I insert it, doesn't matter where, mid-way through the transition a frame shows up from an earlier (30 sec back) portion of footage. I tried trimming the clip to see if it would work and no luck. I'm running the latest update of FCP-HD on a Dual 2GHZ G5. Help would be greatly appreciated. I need to get rid of this phantom image. Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
This is not a solution but might help you get some work done.
You are not alone in experiencing this. In addition to what you describe, I've gotten the same effect a few times when I used a slug or color matte on a higher video track to create a transition.
In my case I found it was only happening when I was "pushing" the system – ie lots of sequences open, very large project, numerous nests, etc.
I quit and did a restart. Then I created a new project with "shrink" appended to the title. Then I opened the large project and dragged over a subset of what I needed to my shrink project. I closed the large project.
The problems disappeared. Sorry I don't have anything more definitive, and I hope that helps.

  • Unable to insert cross dissolve?

    I am trying to insert the cross dissolve video transition in between two video clips and FCE is not allowing this. I get a small black "x" underneath the mouse cursor when trying to do this. Why is FCE not allowing a video transition insert in between these two clips? I made sure both clips were the same resolution.

    This is almost certainly because you don't have adequate media handles, portions of your clip outside the section you're using in your Timeline.
    Here's a good explanation:

    Strange colour
    whyte ----> Pink
    black -----> blue
    i save with this code
    ImageIO.write(image1,ext,f);Why I see normal and save strange??
    Please help!

    My guess is that your issues lies with transparency. Depending on what type of image "image1" is, it may or may not support transparency. PNG supports a full alpha channel, but JPG does not support transparency at all. So if drawing a transparent image onto a medium that does not support it, you'll find your background become whatever the original pixels would read assuming opaque alpha values.
    That was just to let you know why you're seeing this. The simple solution is to preceed your image draws with a fillRect of the desired background color. So if you want a black background:
    Graphics imageG = image1.getGraphics();
    imageG.setColor(Color.BLACK);
    imageG.fillRect(0, 0, image1Width, image1Height);
    imageG.drawImage(top, 50, 100, null);
    imageG.drawImage(right, 250,100, null);
    imageG.drawImage(front, 50,200,200,200, null);This ensures all pixels of your image are opaque and thus can be saved onto mediums which do not support transparency such as JPG.

  • Disappearing images when inserting header/footer

    Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I can't see any differences or simularities in the images that explain such behavior.
    These are documents created in Word and then saved as Adobe PDF.

    I've tried. It seems like the excact same job (similar icon). The content in header/footer is converted, but the images are still disappearing both by inserting pagenumber and updating.
    I've tried using both "adding to existing" and "replacing existing". Either way the images disappear.
    I've also tried changing the placement-preferences of the image in word, and saved as PDF again, but still the same error occurs.

    So I was trying to boot my macbook from the os disk it came with because it was stuck on the gray apple and spinning wheel screen..Then this came up and its been stuck on it since. I can't move the mouse and none of the keys work. What does it mean?

    This is the installer not registering that it is on a laptop and looking for a mouse, the image is suggesting switching on a bluetooth mouse. For a workaround, temporarily connecting a USB mouse will also get past this screen.

  • Issue using cross dissolve in my 'top row' edit

    Hi, in the opening of my video I have an opaque map with footage of a swimming pool behind.
    To create this, I have used the swimming pool footage on my bottom row of the timeline and the map (a still image) on the top row. I am trying to add a cross dissolve to the end of the map footage so the transition between the map disappearing and the pool being shown in full is not so sharp.
    However, I cannot add a cross dissolve to the top row edit in the same way I can to the bottom row.
    I have recreated the problem below.
    1 - When adding to the top row, the cross dissolve highlights the whole clip.
    2 - when I drop the cross dissolve in, it appears at the start and end of the clip and creates a black box behind the clip on the timeline. When this box appears, I get a quicktime error when I try to share the film. I can then delete either of the cross dissolves, but I cannot delete the black box
    3 - when I add the cross dissolve to my bottom row, I have no such problems. The dissolve drops easily between two clips.
    This is not an issue with the length of my top row clips. I have tested and checked.
    This seems to be a bug when adding cross dissolve to a top row edit.
    Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas why this happens?
    Thanks, Dan

    Thanks for putting me right on the background box Luis.
    I re-rendered, but this hasn't fixed my problem.
    However I now think that the problem is with the map image. When I remove it, I can share my file.
    Two things to try:
    1) Don't rerender; turn off background rendering; delete render files once more and try
    2) You may be right that the problem may be with the map image. So: what format, and size is it?
    Does the export work if you replace it with some other image (but otherwise do the same edit you wanted)?
    If you want, send me the file by e-mail and I will try it here. (My address is in my profile)

  • Premiere Pro CS 5.5 can't do a simple cross dissolve with MPE enabled?

    When adding cross dissolves to a project that I'm working on, I've come across an odd problem. I say odd because this should be dirt simple, but Adobe seems to have messed this up. Please advise on any solution or work around, or perhaps simply see if you can recreate the issue so we can get Adobe to fix this.
    Problem:
    Cross dissolves transitions don't seem to work consistently in cs 5.5. Note: I know how transitions work, and I'm not doing something stupid like trying to apply a transition to a cut without actually removing any video between the two clips (assuming the clips came from the same source video.). I'm able to recreate this issue on two different systems with premiere pro cs 5.5 by doing the follwing:
    Create a new project and and sequence with the default settings.
    Enable the Mercury Playback Engine if it isn't already enabled.
    I import the Wildlife.wmv video that comes default with Windows 7 systems.
    Drop it the video into the sequence.
    Ripple delete about a 2 second section of the video. be sure to do this in the first half of the video, and make sure the the video changes the scene during this period so that you will notice the cross dissolve transition when it is applied.
    Apply the default cross dissolve transition to the edit.
    Review the edit. For my test, this edit always seems to work fine.
    This is a screen capture of the working cross dissolve transition.
    Now let me show you what happens when I do a similar edit somewhere in the second half of the video clip.
    As you can see, for the duration of the transition, only the clip to the left is shown. At the end of the transition effect the program out preview jumps to displaying the clip to the right. There is no transition.
    Additional notes:
    This second transition works fine with MPE disabled, but because if of my other problem http://forums.adobe.com/message/3725642 that I have with MPE disable it is not a viable work around.
    Help?

    I too am experiencing this issue.  AVCHD footage, GPU Acceleration, trying to apply a cross dissolve, and instead it randomly seems to see it as a simple cut.  The Cross Dissolve is simply ignored... Adjusting the footage length, removing the CDissolve, re-rendering, etc. have no effect.  For whatever reason, in that specific location on the timeline, a cross dissolve with GPU acceleration is impossible.  Yet, in other sections of the timeline, it is just fine.
    (The Fast Blur trick mentioned above worked (Thank you!) however, when I changed my playback resolution on the screen display, that broke the fix.  Deleting the fast blur, and applying it to the clip on the other side of the cross dissolve, re-enabled the work around)
    I also see an issue when a clip changes in the timeline, (cut from one piece of footage, to another) the video will begin to studder, dropping frames.  Framerate seems to drop to about 2fps.  To get smooth playback back, I have to pause and resume the playback.  Even if this is done very very rapidly, it still fixes the playback issue.  it's just really annoying to have to constantly stop and resume playback everytime a video clip changes in the timeline.
    I have a dedicated hard drive for video, and a dedicated mirrored array for the OS.  the video drive is a 7200rpm SATAII drive, and I'm using AVCHD footage.  I really don't think it's a disk speed issue... particularly as pausing and resuming (even if you do it as fast as you can possibly hit the keys) fixes it.  I'd rather not spend the $ to set up a RAID 10 for video, if I can avoid it and particularly if it's not needed.

  • Help! Is there a FinalCut application or function where I can uniformly extend the duration of all my stills and cross-dissolves?

    I am working in FinalCut 7.0.3 to build a slideshow from still images that will be projected in a gallery space. I have built a test presentation with still images joined by cross dissolves. All the stills run for 10 seconds and the cross-dissolves for 2 seconds--but the pace is too rapid. Is there a function I can apply to make all the stills and transitions run at an increased duration? Or do I have to piecemeal increase each segment and dissolve? Just will take a long time!

    No way to globally change stills.
    This is what I'd do.
    • fiddle with a few slides in the existing timeline to figure out how long the stills should display and how long the transition should be.
    • create a new sequence
    • delete all the slides from your FCP browser
    • go into FCP User settings and set the default still image duration to the length of time you determined earlier
    • reimport all the slides
    • put them on your new timeline - (they will now have the new duration)
    • go to the Effects tab and find your transition and change the duration to what you determined earlier.
    • right click on the transition name and set it to Default Transition
    • in the timeline, select all the slides the "command" + T. This will apply the default transtion to all the slides.

  • How do I create a cross dissolve when working with an Image with the Multiply effect applied?

    FINAL CUT PRO X
    I've added the Multiply effect to an image as it is black and white and I need it to blend in with the background - when I try to add a cross dissolve onto the image to fade it into the background the image will not dissolve with the applied effect, instead, during the dissolve the image is black and white, once the dissolve is complete it then applies the Multiply effect...
    How do I make this so the multiply effect is applied during the dissolve?

    Try making the clip with the Multiply Effect into a Compound Clip and then adding the Dissolve.

  • Very strange - using cross dissolve transition between a series of stills

    New to FCP - been using FCE for a couple of years now.
    I have a bunch of stills that I animate aka the Ken Burns effect. After I add keyframes at beginning and the end of the clip, I then add a transition (I use transitions on almost every picture). For some strange reason, when I use a cross dissolve and render it, the picture shakes a bit when I play it. It's not the screen that shakes, it's just the picture in the canvas and it only shakes when the transition plays. After the transition, the picture plays just fine. Very strange. Never happened in FCE and only happens with cross dissolve.
    Any ideas? thanks.

    When I render the picture and transition, I hit Option R which renders everything - doesn't take too long because I render after each change. Not moving keyframes out which actually creates another problem that the movement doesn't start immediately but that's not what I'm talking about here.
    I've been doing this awhile and it's never seen this before. Using a new scanner (Canon) and just bought Adobe CS3 Design that I use to edit the pix but can't believe either of those would be a problem. Has anyone heard of a problem with FCP after installing an Adobe product?
    Thanks for the suggestions anyway

  • Cross Dissolved Motioned Slideshow Image "Jumpy"

    I am working on a slideshow, and as I've done in the past, followed Tom Wolsky's Motion Control suggestions. ( http://www.fcpbook.com/MotionControl_inFCE.html ) The motion on the pictures looks great - except during the cross dissolve transitions. The image becomes "jumpy," kinda like when you import VHS video. The filters I've tried are: De-interlace, Flicker Filter and Stop Motion Blur, and they didn't help.
    The photos are scanned jpg images at 400dpi. If I remove the motion, the pictures look fine with the cross dissolve transition.
    I have exported the video and using iDVD made a movie, hoping it just looked that way on my monitor. Still jumpy on my sweet standard definition TV.
    Render Control framerate and resolution are at full 100%. And this is just a standard definition sequence.
    I need this for a wedding for a friend for next Saturday, so I'm sweating here a little. Slideshows like this have always worked for me in the past. Am I missing something?
    Dave

    David - They are all checked, and then running the render again doesn't render anything new.
    Searching around Google, I found this "solution" which appears to work. It's tedious, and I'm having trouble believing that everyone else can add motion and transitions, and it works fine. Or do other people really have to do this when keyframing:
    (excerpt from http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/967086#967094)
    +If you re-position graphics or any video image in FCP, make SURE the VERTICAL setting for each KEY-FRAME (start, stop or hold) is always a EVEN INTEGER (Even Whole Number). Examples: 4, not 3 / -144, not -143.27 / 336, not 335.62 / 12 not 11.+
    +The positioning settings/info (as well as many other settings) are found under the "Motion" tab in the Viewer.+
    +Vertical position is the number in the RIGHT window in the area called "Center" (the horizontal position is displayed in the LEFT window).+

  • Aligning two cross-dissolved images in Canvas

    I have two head-shot photos that are covered by a cross-dissolve. The effect creates sort of a "poor man's" morph between the two faces.
    After rendering the sequence, the overlapped images are easily distinguished in the Canvas at the mid point of the dissolve.
    However, when I move either image in the Motion tab, in order to better align the facial features from each photo, the Canvas images become double images of themselves and it is impossible to line the two up. Re-rendering makes them clear again until, of course, I move either image.
    Is there an easier/better way to reposition images while simultaneously checking their alignment during a cross-dissolve?

    I would try a hand-made cross dissolve. Instead of using the standard transition, in your case you have better control if you move either clip to a different video track (say: clip2 to v2), than drag the right hand of clip1 in v1 by say 0,5 sec to the right, and left hand of clip2 in v2 by 0,5 sec to the left. Now the two clips overlap by 1 sec and using the opacity keyframes you can fade down clip1 and fade up clip2 (1 sec each) to emulate cross dissolve.
    And now you can play with Motion on either clip without need for rendering (if you HW allows it...)

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Issue- Cross Dissolve Transition creates random frame insert

    Hello,
    I have had this issue for a long time, and whenever I render a cross dissolve transition, once in a while, it inserts a random frame from either the prior or latter clips that I apply the transition effect to.
    I don't know how to solve this issue and could use help as soon as possible.
    Thank you,
    Th3On3Fr33man

    I agree with Harm.
    This happens when one does not have enough Frames (Handles), beyond the Out-Point, or before the In-Point, to accommodate the Duration of the Transition.
    For some more info on Handles, these might be useful:
    In the days of A-B Roll editing, or with film, Handles were an easy concept to grasp. With current NLE's, it's more abstract.
    Good luck, and do not forget to read through the Help files. In the days of manuals, this concept was covered pretty well. Curt Wrigley covers it in his Classroom in a Book PrPro.
