Strange intermitten hum from tower (fan related?)

I'm hearing this weird hum that occurs every few seconds and last for about one second when the computer is under little load(as if coinciding with something that's rotating inside by computer). I think it may be one of the large fans located in the front, because they just kicked into a higher mode and then back and it disappeared. Anyone have any idea on how I may repair these fans to get rid of this noise?

With much concern, I loaded smc fan control 2.2.2,
I can now get temp down to 134 - 136 degrees vs 174 with rpm settings of CPU_memory, IO, & exhaust set to roughly 1050 -1100 and not have fans make an impact on noise increase.
It was silent before, and now slight noise is present.
With a fresh restart, it doesn't take long to get up to 174 w/o any involved apps running.
It seems to be an issue with the PS (power-supply) with trying to increase it's fan rpm.
Regardless of setting, it will not budge over 740 rpm.
The speculation that the hum that varied from silent to audible is correct in it's attempt to increase the PS fan speed must be the culprit.
Still seems odd it shows 740 rpm, yet setting the speed to max won't take.
May have to do the hardware test to verify findings.
It would be interesting if others had to take this step as well.

Probably is. They get dusty. Shut down your computer and clean it out with a vacuum (don't blow dust back inside).

I have a strange noise coming from within my 2011 iMac Desktop. This started 1 week ago and is intermittent. It sounds like an electronic drill. I have removed all external connections and powered up the Mac and just left it running. Some 2 hours later the noise started. On hitting the space bar on the keyboard the noise stopped. I did a similar test and the noise started within 2 minutes so I have discounted any overheating issues.
With keyboard activity there is an increase in the frequency of this fault.
If you open safari when the fault reappears the URL web link text starts flashing at the same frequency as the noise. This fault can appear with or without the noise.
I’ve been typing these details out on Word and as soon as I went to save the document the noise started and as soon as I hit the OK option in the save window the noise ceased.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I think this issue might be related to my wireless Keyboard. have just noticed that certain combinations of keys do not work. The Right hand shift + ? didn't work but started this noise. Hit another key and the noise stopped Also I have problems using the right hand shift key with the letters Y, H & N , they don't work and are all in line.
So I'm taking the keyboard back to John Lewis. it will be easier to carry that the screen !!

Thunderbolt Display Hum from USB ports

A number of people on a number of threads have reported strange sounds (hum, hiss, crackle) coming from their Thunderbolt monitors. Some reflect electrical interference from other appliances. Some are the result of defects in the Thunderbolt firmware that has allegedly been fixed. A lot of the problems seem to be connected to the speakers. My problem has nothing to do with the speakers, but with a quite pronounced hum (nothing subtle -- you can hear it ten feet away) that arises unpredictably, and can be changed or even temporarily elminated by changing the screen angle. To me it sounded like what in other contexts would be a "ground hum," and perhaps that's what it is, I don't know. What I do know is that, if you have this particular problem, you can solve it by removing all USB devices from the ports on the back of the monitor. These work as ports, but they do produce the hum, at least on mine, regardless of what you plug into them.
There's really no excuse for this kind of thing, but lets face it, Apple products can sometimes be surprisingly shoddy.

No solution yet. I have a call in w/ Apple Support later today. I recommend you all start calling them.
Symptoms are: TBD connected, Mac goes to sleep or hibernate...when it wakes, USB (including Audio) is inoperative. Unplug/plug TBD back into Mac, item restores.
SMC and PRAM resets do not work permanently...restarting Mac (whether MacBook, Mac Mini or MB Air) doesn't work permanently.
The audio card in the TB Display is a USB device. If you look in your system report you'll see that it's connected.
Here's another thing you can try...Start FaceTime...You'll notice your FaceTime camera doesn't work (in the display) either. It's USB also.
I would strike a guess that the USB driver got borked on the firmware update.

Not able to create XML from an existing relational database

Hi,
I am trying to create and xml from an existing relational database. I am not able to get any XML data, I receive "XMLTYPE()" as the result.
Here's the query -
SQL> select o.order_id, XMLELEMENT("order", XMLATTRIBUTES(o.order_id as ID)) AS "result" from order_

I was expecting to get +<order id=2793 />+ instead of XMLTYPE().
I am using -
SQLPlus: Release 9.0.1.0.1*
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
I have also run some checks to confirm XML DB installation -

Loading data from flatfile to relational table,i am getting SQLLDR error

While loading data from flatfile to relational table,i am getting SQLLDR error and i am unable to proceed further.
Source is a flatfile and target is a Oracle database,i used "LKM file to oracle(SQLLDR)" and "IKM sql control append"
and ran the interface.When i checked the seesion in operator window" after generating "CTL file" successfully
the session got failed at "Call sqlldr" and was not able to proceed further.
Environment details:
ODI 11g
database:Oracle 11g
Operating system:Windows server 2008

What is the best way to keep my personal files stored in iCloud separate from my work-related files? It seems that I'm not allowed to link my iPad mini and my work iMac using two different accounts, so I'm wondering how to make my single personal account work for both, while keeping personal vs work files reasonably separated.

Is it possible for you to upgrade your account to iCloud Drive? That would mean, all Macs upgraded to Yosemite, and all mobile devices to iOS8?

In iCloud Drive you could create two separate custom folders, one for work documents and one for private documents and organize your documents there. Don't use the app specific folders (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, ...) , because you can only create one level of folders inside these folders.

Views always appear as different when engineering from Logical to Relational

I created some views in my logical model. After I engineer them to relational model, they appear in relational with an exclamation mark near the upper left corner. If I try to generate ddl for them, I get an error (-- ERROR: Invalid View VwTest). I realized that I have to "validate selected views", in order for the eclamation mark to disappear, and then I am able to generate ddl for them. After that, when I engineer from logical to relational again, it always shows me that my views are different. The difference is that in logical, my entities are shown between double quotes ("), while in relational, after the validation, the tables are not between double quotes. Is there a way to overcome this?

HELP: Can you switch Illustrators File Linking feature from ABSOLUTE to RELATIVE?

Hi guys,
Im working on a rather large project in which there are around 30 AI files all linking to around 100 PSD files. Is there a way to switch Illustrators Linking feature from Absolute to Relative? So I can simply copy the parent directory to any location and it will all work without showing broken tags?
It isn't possible to wrap the final AI up with all the images embedded because the file becomes unworkable and removes the dynamic ability to update content from Photoshop. We are wanting to maintain the Linking relationship.
Ill be stunned if projects arent this flexible Im hoping there is a solution to this.

This noise makes me crazy at night,Did you guys have ever heard this?

[LV2013SP1] Strange cluster ordering from a database

Hello,
I'm not an expert in LabView since I come from the
embedded world (C/C++) yet I found something
quite strange when reading from a database.
Here's attached some screen captures of the
database content and structure, then the LabView
diagram with the probe output (yeah, had to stretch
it wide because there is no word wrap option).
Finally there is a little Excel snapshot of the result.
The database reading is performed with a certain
column ordering, the "casting" cluster do mirror
the same order and datatype, yet 'Variant to Data'
scramble things.
And even though I do use dis/assemble cluster
by name to avoid confusion, the resulting cluster
at probe 20 is right. Go figure...
Could someone help and explain what's going
on under the hood ? At least with C/C++ you have
a little grasp on how memory is ordered, but
LabView really bogs me...

Ok, I've found the bug in LabView 2013 SP1.
The 'Pdt_D' cluster had suffered several modifications and
reordering, but 'Variant to Data' doesn't follow the cluster
virtual ordering but the cluster's memory ordering.
In short, if you create a cluster one way, delete members,
add some more, adapted and reorder, the 'Variant to Data'
VI will take the members' order in which they were added
to the cluster, regardless of the hypathetic ordering you
might have specified afterward.
Probably a problem of chained list, one listing the members
as they are added, one listing the members in the specified
ordering, perhaps the bug comes from pointing the wrong
list.
If you delete the 'Pdt_D' cluster, create a brand new cluster
constant, then add one by one the members of the right
datatype, 'Variant to Data' works like expected and dispatch
the variant's data into the belonging members.
There's is no use providing you with a snapshot because
it will all look the same that I have already provided you with,
just that the cluster has been recreated from scratch and
not been reordered. That's a rather annoying spurious bug
you'd better be strong hearthed to deal with.
And for the VI, it's a rather complex proprietary application
I cannot disclose, but I'll create an example VI further in
time so that you can witness it by yourself.

Migrating from OLAP to relational

Hi,
I am supposed to work on an assignment that needs to migrate the data model from OLAP to relational. Generally the industry is moving the other way, i.e. from Relational to OLAP.
In my current assignment I have to re-rengineer an existing reporting that is carried out of Oracle Sales Analyzer on top of Oracle Express Server.
In the modified environment we are supposed to use Oracle 10g Standard Edition licenses from the customer, which (as far as I know) do not have the OLAP option.
So we have to come up with a Datamart that has to be in relational (star schema) form.Please correct me if there is any other possible solution also.
I believe some of you here would have certainly got a solution to my problem, that is,1) how to efficiently migrate the OES data into relational model. We have to report on Oracle Discoverer 10g, and ETL would be Oracle Warehouse Builder.
2) Is there a way to reuse the metadata for ETL or reporting purposes. I have a vague idea about the whole exercise, in which, I'll manually dig out physical table level details from OES setup and then pull those attributes into the star schema kind of model tables. But maintaining hierarchies and so many levels will be another problem in relational structures.
Please suggest.

Unfortunately, OWB cannot use an Express database as a source. However, there is some good news. If you are using Warehouse Builder 10gR2 there is an new Expert available from download from the OWB OTN website that uses all the old OSA metadata files to create a completely new project with source and target modules. The source modules are the original dimension and variable flat files.
Because the model that is generated is a logical model you can implement it as either a relational or multi-dimensional schema (assuming you have not tried to use any features specific to a multi-dimensional model such as value based hierarchies or non-additive measures).

I have a combobox where it shows the Botanical name, and the Norwegian name. But the rest of the info has to be shown in separate movieclips.

Hi! And thank you for helping. Planter is my root node. I tried removing "Planter" from xml.Planter.Lauvtre. It didn't fetch any data then. My code works as is, but what I want the code to do, is to put these 3:
    <Farge>Grønn</Farge>
    <Herdighet>H4</Herdighet>
    <Høyde>10-15 m</Høyde>
...into separate textfields.
It has to be dynamic, so that when I click on one of the plant names in the combobox, the textfields get updated according to what is selected in the combobox.
I'm pretty new to Actionscript so I have a hard time explaining my problem:
I want to use the combobox as the menu, that has all the latin plant names listed. When I click on one of the 100 plantnames I want the correlating info from the XML, put in textfields.

when running it I sometimes get a hum from the bulb but not all the time. Could this be a power issue. Its plugged into a standard wall outlet. Could the power be causing this ? I seen somewhere a light with a ballast but dont know if this would help.

Some of the early Arri units produced some hum. IIRC, a conditioner, or a Varac unit, in line eliminated this.
I use the old-fashoned Lowell units, so have never had that issue.
