Strange intermittent internet disconnect-reconnect... and another question.

This has happened twice now and is fixed with a restart, but I'd like to know if I have faulty hardware. What happens is that I'll open my Macbook from sleeping and the internet will disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect for 2 seconds, disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect, repeat. This will continue UNTIL I restart the computer.
I know it's not my internet, because it has NEVER happened to another computer in my house. I'm wondering if my Airport isn't causing issues with it...
I also have serious issues with BOTH of my browsers freezing when I open from sleep. Like the computer takes a few minutes to figure out what it was doing and won't let me switch windows, open a new link or even click on the URL bar. I often have to Force Quit Safari or Firefox (whichever I'm using at the time) and restart them before they work. So now I'm thinking RAM issue?
I can't bring send thing in till middle of May do to daily use for college, but I can bring it to a Genius Bar (which I'll probably do next week) and hope they can fix it in store. I'm just hoping you can provide some insight here. Help! Should I add some more RAM.. or just have it replaced?

SA - Click on over to the MacBook forum in Apple/Support/Discussions. You will find many threads about MacBooks intermittently dropping connection. I did not see any mention of this happening with Wake Up or Restart, but that might be related. Looks like the new hardware/software combo is too sensitive or gets confused by other networks.
No definitive solutions. Some router/Mac reconfigure may make a difference - fixed channel instead of automatic may help if you can choose one different from your neighbors' networks, and maybe different encryption will help.
If it's a brand new book, you may be able to exchange and hope the next one does not have the problem.

I am using windows Vista and having this problem also (not exactly, but iTunes gives pop-up that "files are in use"). Acting a suggestion from another answer in this thread, I clicked on Computer and selected eject...windows did warn me that the device was in use, but also gave me a CONTINUE button, which I clicked and it was ejected...had to go back to iTunes and eject the iPod there also, but it did eject

Playback while minimized? And another question!

Let me start by saying I have Premere Pro 5.5, 64bit windows 7 pro, 24gb ram, 3 hard drives(1tb each, 7200rpm), nvidia gtx 285, quad core i7.
How can I set Premiere up for playback while I minimize the application and do web surfing. You may ask why I want this. It is because If I want to listen to the audio track while surfing the web, or I want to view it on my secondary monitor while also surfing the web, this would be ideal.
Also, the second question: I made a new project and inserted a just one 30mb audio clip in the timeline. No video. I hit the spacebar to play back and Premiere waits 2 seconds before playing it back. This is strange. It is small and my computer is extremely fast. I also have 3 hard drives. I put the file in each hard drive to see if it would change the lag, but it did not. It always waits 2 seconds before playback and I get impatient because that is too slow and laggy for me. So any thoughts on how to cure this? On the bottom right of my screen, there is almost no applications open. I closed down as many as I could and it still lags

Okay, so the lag issue. Todd, I did try all the stuff you said. I turned off many proceses, made sure nothing un-needed wasn't on in the compuer start up. Closed all apps, etc. WHen i check Task manager, it says I have 0 cpu usage, and 2 gb ram in use. Then I open premiere and do a test project with only one small audio file. It lags approx 2 seconds after I hit play, before it actually starts playinmg.
I don't see what else I can do?

Time Machine/Capsule -- 2.93GHzx -- and another question.

I upgraded my PowerBook G4 (1.67GHz and 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM) from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.6. I did so largely to get Time Machine. And then I ran into all sorts of woes doing my back-ups. So I took another step and replaced my external 2TB Lacie drive (that I was using for Time Machine) with a 500 GB Time Capsule. It arrived today and is right now in the middle of its first back-up. We shall see how well it fares with Time Machine. I am crossing my fingers. Does anyone see anything right or wrong I did in this exercise?
Meanwhile, I am going to take the plunge and buy a new MacBook Pro. I want to load it up. But I have a question: Is the 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo THAT MUCH better than the 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo? It costs $300 more and I’m wondering if 0.27GHz makes such a significant ($300) difference — bearing in mind that I will be running Final Cut Pro, etc, and want the best I can get in strength and speed. But I don't want to blow $300 for window dressing that does not deliver. Bottom line: is an extra 0.27 GHz that significant or that much of a game changer?
And one more question: Is it OK to use your Mac and its other apps while Time Machine is running? Or does that cause a problem?
Of course, I’m not asking you all to write a thesis paper on all this but your quick opinion would be gratefully appreciated.

Depends on what sort of problems you had with the LaCie. If the problem wasn't with the drive itself, you may not have gained much, if anything. TC's are more convenient in some ways, but also much slower.
And since you can't partition a TC disk, I'd advise against putting any other data there: if you ever want or have to erase all your TM backups and start over, you'll have to copy that other data somewhere temporarily.
And one more question: Is it OK to use your Mac and its other apps while Time Machine is running? Or does that cause a problem?
It's fine. You may have slower response time, especially using the internet while doing a wireless backup, but TM won't crash or fail to back up.

Constant disconnect/reconnect and tons of errors.

Ijust got a brand new iphone 4, and just installed newest itunes fresh a couple of days ago.
The computer is running windows xp pro, and was just recently reinstalled about a month ago.
When I plug my iphone into the computer it will start to sync and then stop an give me an error either about "error reading device, iphone not connected," or an error with a hex code, or all of the above and others.
Heres what happens
I plug the phone in, the battery icon changes to a plug, then the lightning bolt, then back to normal, the phone tells me charging is not supported with this accessory, and sync in progress.
Windows pops up the autorun menu and asks me what I want to do with the connected camera, open it in word, or scanners and cameras.
Itunes also opens and starts the sync process, it shows syncing on the iphone.
then after backing up and copying some apps, the iphone goes back to the home screen as if it was unplugged, the sync stops and gives me errors.
I'm getting extremely frustrated with this too. If I leave it plugged in I constantly keep hearing the whistle noise the phone makes when it's plugged in, and windows wont shut up with the usb device plugged in/unplugged sound.
It will just keep disconnecting, trying to sync, failing and doing it all over again until I unplug it.
I've restarted the phone, restarted the computer and it still does this.
Do I have to unplug all of my other usb devices? it totally gets confused if I have a flash drive or another phone (my ROKR E8 or RAZR) plugged into the computer.

Sorry to tell you this but the iPhone is not a storage or backup device! Occasionally it will have problems, an app may be corrupted and cause problems! Because of this you will need to do one of the three (restart, reset, restore). You really need to backup everything on phone somewhere on your computer or a backup drive! Old phones stored contacts on the Sim... the iPhone doesn't... If you rely completely on your iPhone backup you may be sorry because that can get corrupted also!!
Again sorry to tell you this but having an iPhone when you dislike iTunes and refuse to backup (besides iPhone backup) is a bad decision... Not backing up is a bad decision with any smart phone!!! They're no longer plain old phones!!!

And another question on video

While I'm here, I have another itunes problem. I bought a daily pass to the Daily Show. It's great, except the quality of the video is TERRIBLE!!! There is a tremendous lag between what I see and what I hear and it looks pretty pixelated. This happens on most of the episodes. I have downloaded many other programs from itunes and did not have this problem. Any ideas?

I am not familiar with the daily pass, but is this video streamed or do you actually download the entire files? The videos you download from iTunes are specifically made for the iPod so they have a 320x240 resolution which would look pretty bad fullscreen on a computer.

Adding To The LIst Of Problems With Internet Explolrer 11 And Another Browser

I've b1 of the EA6500 router and like the othe posts I can't use IE 11. The "solution" is to use either Chrome or Firefox but not my Chrome has stopped working. All I get now is the LInksys Blue background. When I first see the site it looks like it's trying but then gives me a blue page. I've included screen prints of what I see when I go to Linksys Smart Wi-Fi page and below that is the version number. I have deleted my browser history, cache, saved form data, etc. but the result is still the same. And it doesn't matter if I use the router IP address or the Smartsys Wi-Fi link.
So right now the only broweser that will let me do router administration is Firefox but something tells me it too will have problems eventually.
the problem I'm having isn't with the router, it is with the company. People have tried to blame Micrtosoft in these posts for the problem but it's not their problem. The real kicker is that these Smart Wi-Fi routers are not old. nor are they cheap. LInksys announced this line at CES 2012, then again in April, and the last one announced for thie "initial" line-up of new routers was the EA6500 (the EA6500 was anounced in June 2012).
I've been mostly happy with LInksys reouters but if this is the way they are going to conduct business, then maybe I need to make certain adjustments with the networking products we purchase.
To put it bluntly...this situation is unacceptable.

Believe it or not I stumbled across the solution to the problem and need to partially retract one of my previous statements. In a sense part of the responsibility does go to Microsoft because during one of their infamous "updates", the default version of Internet Explorer was changed to use the 64-bit version. I rarely used the Internet Explorer (64 bit) link in my Start Menu...I always used the "default" which apparently was the 32-bit version because there are plenty of companies that have not updated their software for 64-bit.
The article I came across is Problem With Internet Explorer? Maybe You Need Fewer Bits. The fix is simple and all it really takes is to right-click the icon for Internet Explorer and choose "Properties". When that comes up change the value in the "Target" field from "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe". Once you make the change save the change and then use that link to get to administer your browser. I tried it and it worked. I guess I missed the post from Linksys Support about that possibility.

Why is it when I download music to my iTunes an explanation mark comes up on some of my music. And another question when I move some music to my iPod I can not play it because this little circle comes up

Why is it when I am downloading my CD's to my computer some of my music gets an explanation mark next to it.
Second question
When I can download music to my iPod some of the music downloads but I can not play it because it has this little round circle in front of it ansd the music is greyed out and not black lettering like the other songs I can play.

Upgrading Itunes with an external hard drive and another question

Okay so about a month ago I transferred my itunes library to my external hard drive. I have since purchased and downloaded new music/video to my Ipod. Here are my questions if anyone can help me please.
1) Because I moved the library to the external, does that mean I also moved the Itunes program OR just the place where new music is downloaded/purchased and save to?
2) Upgrading to new Itunes on this computer, will that ruin what I have in my library or just upgrade and keep everything the same like it is now?
3) Horror story I heard is that when I upgrade, I may have to re-purchase music from Itunes in order for it to play on new Itunes. If that's true then I am paying like $400+.
I'm not a dummy, but this Ipod and music are very, very important to me. Any help would be very appreciated.

Not the program folder, iTunes folder where your music library and ancillary files are kept. I haven't had my iTunes music on any internal hard drive on any computer for years.
I am trying to delete the music/movies off of this PC as it is my work station as well.

Check in Preferences>Advanced to make sure that iTunes is pointed to your EHD. If it is, you should be fine. Then, just to make sure that everything is where it should be consolidate your library: File>Library>Organize Library.
Follow-up: If I move the program over to my EHD does that mean I can use any PC to download music into the Itunes library from my EHD?
I don't think you want to move the iTunes.exe file to your EHD. As I understand it, iTunes isn't really happy there and it takes some work to get it there. Just move the library.

Record insertion problem and another question...

I know I'm now php mysql expert so I am trying to use the
insertion wizard and I can make the form and have it supposed to
link to another page after its done inserting but when I run the
page and fill in the details it inserts the record but does not

My second problem is not really a dreamweaver problem but it
may be linked to it. Im using a server package called WAMP and
pages that I can run will sometimes cause and error box to popup
saying that Apache has caused error, the box that gives you the
option of sending the report or not. Anyone know what the problem
is here?
If I have not given enough information to help please ask for

The headers already sent error is a common problem that
baffles
beginners. It's caused by some output being sent to the
browser before a
call to certain functions, such as header() or
session_start(). You need
to eliminate that output, and the problem will go away.
Common causes of output are:
* Blank space before the opening PHP tag
* Blank space before the opening PHP tage or after the
closing PHP tag
of any include files
* Use of echo or print anywhere before the call to the
problem function
* Error messages generated by PHP

None of the server packages are endorsed by PHP. Some are
good, others
not so good. It sounds as though you have a bad installation.

Video format and another question

I saw someone else ask what video format photos for iOS supports but i had a couple of extra questions so didn't want to hijack his.
I've been using aperture for years but my library was really messy, i'm loving photos overall so far as i hardly used the features in aperture and the interface looked a bit dated. Sharing photos was also a bit of a nightmare compared to the new photos app.
Anyway instead of importing the whole aperture library, which i didn't want to do as it was messy, i decided to start fresh with a new photos library and just copy/drag the photos over from my aperture albums/folders. Firstly, am I right in assuming when i do this, it will actually hardcopy the photo over into the photos library and not just a link or a soft copy from aperture? Therefore i can delete the aperture library once all photos are copied over and i will still have all the original photos in the new app? Just to note, i didn't use referenced files in aperture.
Secondly, unless I'm being really stupid, none of my older videos taken on IPHONES seem to copy over, even from just last year using an iPhone 5. the format seems to be .MOV.
Now, SURELY, apple are not going to release an photos app that DOESN"T support the importing of videos taken on their own phones from just a few months ago?

Your understanding of how the copies from your old library are not quite correct, but the bottom line is you would be able to delete your old Aperture library afterwards (or at some point, which might be a wiser approach). I used iPhoto not Aperture so I'm not sure if it's the same but take note of what you are actually exporting so you keep any GPS, date, keyword information etc. etc. you might have added.
Some have encountered this movie issue and found that simply exporting it to the desktop before adding it to Photos is enough, others have found the export to the desktop works but not the import into Photos and have had to use Quicktime to export it again to an Apple Device compatible format. Clearly the videos should be supported, I don't believe Apple have decided not to but rather that something has/is going wrong.

Leica Monochrom and another question

Does anyone know whether, or when, Aperture will support the Leica Monochrom camera. Seems odd that it doesn't do so.
Also, ( and maybe this is related ), my version of Aperture is 3.4 running on my 2010 27" iMac under OS 10.7.5, is this the latest available under that version of the OS? I note that there's a Aperture version 3.4.5 on the App Store, but my iMac's Software Update will not update to that.

No one here know, only Apple does and they don;t announce in advanced. There have been other disscusions asking this, check the More Like This box on the right hand side of the page for other threads.

3.4.5 should run on Lion 10.7.5 so a couple of questions.
1 Did you buy Aperture from the App Store originally or did you buy an older boxed or on-line version?
2 Is Aperture installed in your systems Application folder and named Aperture. Software needs these both to be true in order to see the app and update it.
3 Finally what version of Aperture are you running. Go to Aperture->About Aperture and report the version number listed there.

Starting up and another question..

Is it possible to set up a Mac so that there is no request for a password? Just turn it on and it goes? This is one of the most aggravating features of Windows for me.
Second question is: is OSX a 64-bit OS? I'm sure that seems like a dumb question, but I don't own a Mac yet so bear with me. I'm asking so I'll know how much RAM to get.

Hi
When you create a class for example plane, you can create two subclasses for example engine plane and propeller plane. Inheritance is used not to have to re-write all the set get methods in the plane class correct?
But while processing(using, making random access classes to add planes for example) do you have to make one for propellor and one for engines? or is there something which allows you to create once and "inherit" those features? is this clear?

side benefit, but it's not the purpose. The purpose
of inheritance is specialization. You create a base
class Plane, and then subclasses that do everything a
Plane can do, but do some of it in their own
specialized ways.ah ok.. like you mean for example another calculation or another method using the things in the base class

And another question!

Ok, so like, here it goes... again. I also have this other problem besides the internet thing. When I go to listen to songs on my mini it skips over five songs then plays the sixth song, if I try to go back to say the fourth song it will skip back to the sixth song. Does that make sense? And I can see each song as it flips through it. It looks as if I'm hitting the forward button... but I'm not. Can someone help me please? I'm about fed up with apple and their not working correctly products. Thanks.

Sometimes, the purchased songs need to be re-authorized then resynced between the iTunes/iPod interface otherwise the iPod may not play them. Also, they require a certain level of iPod Firmware and iTunes version to continue to play.
As you have none, it is a moot point.
Try Resetting Your iPod to correct this problem. It may take several attempts.
If that does not solve the problem, then Restore Your iPod and put the music back on your iPod, from iTunes.
I would guess the Restore will correct this problem, with a new OS and a 'fresh' iPod HD
