Strange ipod recognition issues?

using my macbook pro, my 1st gen shuffle is recognised as an old 3rd gen windows ipod with no serial number or software version showing. when i dock it to my other machines (a macbook and another macbook pro) it shows up fine and as an up to date shuffle. what gives?
all these machines run the latest version of itunes, and yes ive reinstalled itunes already a few times in the machine thats giving me trouble but still with the same result!
what is up with THIS version of itunes that it doesnt consider my shuffle as a shuffle and another one does?
is there a particular part or preferece of itunes that makes this decision that i can try trashing?
are there too many questions in this post?

  • Printing colour recognition issue with illustrator created design.

I have a macbook pro with retina display and illustrator Cs 6.
For some reason, when I tried to print my illustrator designed work at the professional printing service.
it said there are colour recognition issue. I wasn't sure if that is anything to do with the Illustrator Cs6 or to do with the retina display or the printing service.
I would like to know if anyone have the same issue, and how do you resolve it.
    Thanks.

    Ahhh,
The colour mode is websafe HEX is the design work by the looks of it and the print is using CMYK mode. Try changing the document's colour mode to CMYK from RGB and see if the blue looks darker. It should do.
Take a look at the image I've attached. I've created both RGB and CMYK variations of the hex colour #0099BA.
I think it's just down to a difference in colour mode between digital version and print. There are some really great comparison sites available that will give you a close conversion if your matching spot and PANTONE® colours too.
Let me know if your any closer to a resolution please. Interested to see what the issue is.

  • ITunes 10.1 Upgrade on Windows 7, iPod Service issue

I am upgrading from iTunes 10.0.0.68 (64 bit version) to iTunes 10.1 (64 bit version) on my Windows 7. After some time the popup error message reads,
Service 'iPod Service' (Pod Service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services
I aborted the installation. Roll back action took place and I am continuing with iTunes
Now when I run iTunes, the message says,
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
I clicked on Yes. Then iTunes application opened with the message "Could not delete service" (the title of the window is 'iPod Service')
How do I fix this problem? I want to upgrade to iTunes 10.1 as I want to upgrade my iPad to iOS 4.2

Now, based on your latest response I did the right-click, install as Administrator. The result unfortunately is the same.
Okay ... let's try a modified version of the instructions from the following document. (The modification is because they aren't precisely accurate for 64-bit systems ... the program files that could potentially be left on your system by the unmodified instructions wouldn't normally be relevant to an iPod Service issue, but you're getting a relatively rare variation on iPod Service trouble. So, just in case ...)
If you get any error messages during any of the uninstalls, deletions or reinstalls, note down what they say and post back with the precise text, please.
    Here's the document:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
    ... here's the modification:
When you get to *step 9* of the *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled* section, proceed instead with the following instructions:
    (9) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Note: If you have a 64-bit version of the Windows OS, continue with step #10. Otherwise, skip to step #17.
    (10) Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
    (11) Right-click the iTunes folder (if it still exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (12) Right-click the iPod folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (13) Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (14) Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (15) Open the Common Files folder.
    (16) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (17) Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    (18) Open the Windows folder.
    (19) For 32-bit versions of Windows: Open the System32 folder.
For 64-bit versions of Windows: Open the Syswow64 folder.
    (20) Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (21) Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (22) Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Now restart the PC and try another iTunes reinstall.
Any better luck with that attempt?

  • So confused - itunes/ipod/iphone issues - please help!!!!!

    Hi everyone
I'm sure that these questions have been answered before, but having looked around I'm getting more and more confooozed Can you help me?
I have a 30gig ipod with about 4,000 songs on. I have a 2 week old 16g 3G iphone with about 1,000 songs on and a number of bought apps. Both of these devices were synced to itunes on a Sony Vaio laptop running XP. Due to a "falling of the table" incident the Vaio has died!! I have replaced it with a Dell Inspiron running XP Pro.
My girlfriend has an ipod nano with about 1,000 songs on it. She was synced to a separate itunes account on our desktop computer. This computer is about to die too. (yeah 2010 has be a techno-nightmare so far!!)
I have backed up her itunes folder to a jump drive, but previously only backed up my ipod music i.e not the itunes folder just the music subfolder(can't think why??!) to the same jump drive.
    Sooooo:-
How do I get my old itunes library back on the Dell??
I enabled Disk Use on my ipod, so can I restore my itunes library from my ipod to the Dell?
How do we run 2 separate ipods and itunes accounts on 1 machine?
Can I sync my iphone on the new machine? If, so will I lose my Outlook contacts etc. and any apps I've bought?
    Please help if you can.
    Many thanks

  • IPod has issues

    Hello,
My family is disappointed with two apple Ipods that we own. One of them is an Ipod nano model number YM6133NYTJT which has conked out on me.The music from my computer will not transfer to it. It worked fine, until I followed the directions to update my IPOD which erased all of my music and I can't put my music back on it. When I connected my Ipod nano to the computer the screen just said do not disconnect and it wouldn't go away.
Also, my Ipod shuffle model number 5C616FCLRS9 was working just fine, until one day I tried downloading music on it, but my computer would not recognize it. My computer still has all of my music on it, but it will not recognize neither of my Ipods.
Does anybody have a similar problem and know how to fix it?

As to your first problem, if you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
If it's not recognised, check these out.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.

  • Strange Recognition Issue - Nano

We have four iPods in the house. This question specifically relates to a recent issue with the Nano (4gig).
We have iTunes on two computers and have not had an issue until yesterday. Right now, when we connect the Nano to one of the computers, iTunes displays '20 GIG' instead of the normal name of the iPod ("Liz's Nano"). This is the first time I've seen this
If we plug any other iPod into that machine, everything is as expected. If we plug the Nano into the other machine, iTunes on that machine recognizes it fine.
I have updated the "problem" machine's iTunes software but it did not solve the issue.
So in essence on one machine only, and for one device only, there is no list of music on the device and the device is recognized incorrectly.
    Can you help?
    Peace,
    Tony
      Windows XP

Man, you are good. Yes the folder shows up as drive K.
Now I need some additional help if you don't mind - I read the instructions on the link you provided, and it basically says to "Locate the iPod and right click on it, then click Change Drive Letter and Paths."
The ipod isn't listed under Disk Management in that Control Panel Applet.
Additional info. My drive letters go C: through I: from HD's to removable media; then network drives begin at letter K: - yes, the same letter that this control folder is showing up as.
I think I know how it happened; we plugged two iPods into the same computer, one would have been J:, the other, K: - thereby conflicting with the network drive K: (at least that's my supposition).
So the question at this point is, how do I fix it since I can't really follow the instructions on that link - unless I should just re-map the network drives (which probably isn't a bad idea anyway).
    Thoughts?
    Peace,
    Tony

  • IPod Nano 2gen recognition issue!

Ok, my girlfriend got a 2nd gen ipod nano and is computer illiterate. SO, she thought hey, i'll just give it to my friend to load songs on. So the first time that it was connected to a computer was on her friends computer. then i went over and installed itunes while she was at school, and typed out a guide to the basics, all that jazz.
i get a call that night and she said its not working. crap. i walked her through some stuff, and it turns out, its not being recognized in iTunes or My Computer. The apple help sites say to reinstall the software on the cd that came with the ipod....except they dont have cd's with those ipods.
what do i do? Did using it with the other computer jack everything up? What do i need to do?

No. Look at the link and read the symptoms. First symptom states: "iPod does not show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer." This is why I pointed out that you needed to look through all of the links to see if they are helpful. Just looking at the title is not enough since the titles tend to be general.
Link for article I am referring to
You may also want to double check and make sure your girlfriends computer has the correct service pack for her OS if you have not already.

  • Multiple iPod 30GB issues

    Hi folks,
I've been having some issues regarding my iPod video 30GB which I can't solve. I will explain what happened in details.
I had some files from my computer (Sony VAIO 40GB NTFS partitioned) in my iPod, about 25 GB (including songs). Then my girlfriend asked me to backup some data for her, which I did, and started all this turmoil.
Her computer is an Celeron, 20 GB FAT32, with low-powered USB ports. I copied her files (about 2 GB) into the iPod, and shortly after a strange glitch happened. It was still connected to her computer when the colors were gone. It entered a black & white-colored mode, and the folder icon showed up. It wouldn't disconnect, even though I kept ejecting it in both iTunes and WinXP.
Then I turned the PC off, ejecting the iPod in the process. After ejecting, I turned it on, but the folder icon was still there. Seconds later, I heard a clicking sound, and it turned itself off.
Afterwards, I plugged it onto my computer, and it was recognized by iTunes, but no files were detected. I opened on explorer, and opened it. The only folder was a hidden ipod_control 0 kb-sized. I checked the disk Properties and... the space was still being used. Which makes me think the files are there.
Now, there's where my problem resides: I need those files. I tried 4 of the 5 R's, but the 5th one will erase my files.
Here's the questions: is there any possibility of ever recovering those 27 GB? Are my files lost forever? Is iPod a reliable external HDD or things like these will keep happening?
For those wondering, the iPod didn't fall, nor suffered any shock of any kind shortly before these events.
Thanks for reading, I hope there'll be a way.
    Regards,
    Luciano.

  • Ipod shuffle issue

the message is ipod is corrupted so need to restore it but cannot restore through itunes

Well, i figured out the problem. Apparently, the USB port on the front of my PMG5 is no longer working. The iPods both work work in the other ports and on my other Macs.
I wonder what could have happened. Strangely, TechTool Deluxe finds no hardware errors with any USB ports. I tested it further by plugging my Mighty Mouse into it. The optical light turns on, but the mouse will not move.
This *****. I have no desire to lug my computer in for repairing the USB port. :/. Well, I DO have Applecare and it expires this year. Perhaps I should think about it.
GOOD NEWS: Resetting the PRAM fixed my issue. It responds again.

  • Strange Wi-Fi issue in Mountain Lion

    Hello Mountain Lion Gurus/Users/All,
Just yesterday I upgraded my 2009-mid-MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion (from Lion)
    I have this strange issue.
    I turn on my Wi-F
Selected my home network from the list of all the networks Mac could find. (Actually this is the network I regularly use on all my devices.)
It gets connected to my home network over Wi-Fi for 6 to 7 seconds. (I am able to browse pages, as a test, in these 6 to 7 seconds).
Suddenly message pops up saying "Connection Timeout. Could not connect to network."   Where as, I am able to browse over the same network from other devices like my iPod Touch, Android :@ Device etc.
    Please help me.
    Chandra

    Chandra,
Some people have found that setting a network location prevents this kind of problem.
In System Preferences, choose Network.  Then Edit Location, the + sign and use any name for the location.  Then select the location in the Network preferences pane.  If you haven't already, joint the wifi network.
You should also check that you haven't inadvertently messed up your settings in the advanced portion of the preferences.  While you're in there, click the button to renew your DHCP lease (in the TCP/IP tab).

  • Facial Recognition issues

So I have a few issues.
    1) In iPhoto I noticed the more faces that I put in anyone person the higher the sucsess rate or finding more similar faces.  Thus when I would show un-named faces I could just click conirm yes or no.  In Aperture, I have rougly 10,000 faces from several hundred people that I have put in.  Example my daugher, I have 690 photos of her with her face properly identified.  However, while Aperture does an amazing job finding faces, and car rims, and tree branchs it does no longer suggest thier names.  I have to manually put each one in.  With other 50,000 imges with probably 150,000 people in it.  So how do I get aperture to suggest faces anymore?
    2) Also in iPhoto it would tell me how many more pictures I have to identify that are unknowns and in Aperture I can't figure out how many I have left to do.  Is there a way to see that?
    3) I have my facebook set up in Aperture, however in iPhoto when I typed in a name that was on facebook it would show the persons face next to theri name.  In Aperture I see the gray box with no face.  This makes me think my names are not connected or connecting to the internet.  The strange thing is, I can add photos to facebook so the online connecivity would apear correct.
To explain how I got to this which may help you figure out a solution.  I initally had a folder with all my photos on it on my PC.  I moved the folder to my iMac, from there, I imported them all into iPhoto.  When I got Aperture, I imported all my iPhoto work wich took about 7-8 hours.
Thank you in advance for your help, suggestions, and

    Andrea
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running? Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are standalone products, each coming with an Elements Organizer. Same version, with both on the same computer they share the same Elements Organizer catalog.
All that being said....your question has somehow been posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing) and not the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum (photo editing).
It would be to your advantage to post your thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum so that people like Barbara Brundage, MichelBParis, dj_Paige and others can work with your on your Elements Organize facial recognition questions.

  • Very Strange Ipod Nano 1st Gen behavior...

I've had my Ipod Nano for quite a while now, and it has served me faithfully, without problems until only a few days ago. Suddenly, and without apparent cause, it ceased to activate via the select button. I attempted the reset trick, without success.
My first instinct was that this might be a battery issue. I plugged the device in to charge overnight, and the next morning tried activating it, with the same results: Nothing.
I noticed that, when I plugged it in to charge, the Ipod did not activate and go into the "do not disconnect" screen as normal. In fact, it did nothing. Feeling experimental, I tried plugging it in and pressing the select button. Nothing. While plugged in, I tried the reset trick. Success. The Ipod booted, taking slightly longer than usual to get past the Apple logo screen. After a few seconds longer, it went into the charging screen. I left it overnight again, and checked on it the next morning.
Now the screen showed "Charged." Suspicious that this was still a battery issue, I loaded up a few hours of music and checked on the unit repeatedly over the course of the day. It definitely made it past the 8 hour mark (playing mostly 128kbps at a low volume), but I can't say when it finally quit. The battery seemed to perform normally. I charged it again. Here's where things get strange.
Currently, the Ipod will only activate via the reset trick, and only when connected to a power source. It will remain activated for several hours after being disconnected, and seems to behave normally while activated. Once deactivated, the unit will not reactivate unless connected again to a power source, and again, only using the reset trick.
The battery charges, but only when the unit is activated. If the unit is deactivated while connected to a power source, it will not charge.
This almost certainly cannot be a battery issue, as the unit still plays music, and lasts 8 or more hours after being disconnected. The boot time seems to be affected as well, as it stays on the Apple logo for much longer than usual (up to 15 seconds) before showing the "do not disconnect" screen. I've updated the unit, formatted it, and restored it repeatedly, and yet it still will not activate when not connected to a power source.
Any suggestions (other than "Change the battery" as this almost certainly cannot be the problem)? Otherwise, this unit will simply be destroyed and disposed of. I have no sentimental attachment to it, and it doesn't make sense to pay it's purchase price again to have it repaired.

Yes, I did try restoring it. Multiple times. That didn't help.
I noticed today that the casing seemed warmer than usual after a charge. I saw this article:
    http://news.cnet.com/8301-135793-10020108-37.html?hhTest=1&part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-13-0-20
So I'll take the thing by the nearest Apple store and see if they'll honor the replacement suggestion.

  • ** Strange iPod Shuffle 512 Problem **

Not sure what is going on with my 512 Shuffle, but I am almost certain it's not a hardware issue.
Anyone with insights, please post... Here's the story:
Problem first manifested itself as a Shuffle that reported incorrect memory capacity; the iPod Updater reported that it had a capacity of 114 MB, and iTunes reported that it was 83 MB full, with 31 MB Free (STRANGE, huh -- iTunes lists the Shuffle as empty, BTW). Regarless of what I copy onto the Shuffle it will not play -- it simply alternates amber/green LEDs.
I believed I had a HW problem. Went to my local Apple store, had a "Genius" look at it and he quickly swapped it out. The nice gentleman placed a few tunes on the new Shuffle, I verified that it played, and drove home. After plugging it in and launching iTunes, it began to behave exactly as the last one did. AAARRRGGGHHHHH!
Just to isolate the issue, I installed the new FW 1.1.2 and iTunes 6.0.1 on another computer (one that has never had either piece of software installed). Guess what, it all works perfectly.... So I'm now concluding that there is something amis on the primary computer; specifically with the USB entry for the device (I think).
So here's the rub... I've removed iTunes, and all other remnants of "Apple," "iTunes," "iPod," etc. I can find on the disc and in the Windows Regsitry. However, no matter how deep I explore, I can't seem to undue whatever is hosed on this computer.
Is there a forum post or some registry utility that I can use to kill all instances of my shuffle? Given my success on the other system, I'm hoping that if I can truely start from ground zero, I'll be okay. But for the life of me, I can't seem to get there.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE......

I REALLY don't want to have to bvlow away and reinstall Windows XP. Anyone have experience here? My best guess would be a refresh of the Shuffle USB Windows Registry settings. Any know of an some undreground Apple utility?
