Strange iPod Touch Activity

Alright, I have a very intersting and complex scenario with my iPod touch. A few weeks ago, I dropped it while running and it shattered the entire top of the face and left cracks throughout the rest of the front. Somehow, ever since then, it's been working fine, with no problems at all. The other day, I was on my Twitter app and (well no since in hiding it) was looking at some "shady" Twitter users' accounts and pictures. As I was doing this, the Twitter app suddenly closed. I then was having trouble opening other apps and even turning the iPod back on. My first thought was that I had just received a virus, but then I went internet surfing and read that it is nearly impossible to get viruses from an app. This all happened from the Twitter app, not Safari. I also read some people say that it's impossible for an iPod Touch to get a virus. At this point, I am clueless. Does my iPod Touch have a virus? Is that even possible?

There are no iPod viruses. It is possible to download a malicious app if you have jailbroken your iPod, but no viruses, and no malware at all for an iPod that is not jailbroken.
Most likely, there are some other hardware problems that were caused by the fall. Often, problems can surface later, after damaged components have a chance to get rattled around and go through heating/cooling cycles, further stressing them and worsening the damage. If the iPod is covered under AppleCare Plus (I don't know if they can be), then you can get it taken care of for a fee. If not, you'll probably have to replace it.

  • VERY STRANGE IPOD TOUCH PROBLEM

    Hey guys,
I think i have a problem and i havent been able to find anyone else that has been experiencing the same thing.
Every once in awhile (like every 2 or 3 times) I try to sync my ipod touch, i get an error. I either get an error that says that the ipod has timed out or that itunes could not connect to the iphone due to an unkown error (even though i have a touch, not an iphone)
I then unplug my ipod, and plug it back in...my computer does not recognize that it is plugged back in. I realized that ALL my usb ports on my computer have stopped working at this point...i try my usb mouse, doesnt work, i try my ipod again, doesnt work...and i try them on different usb ports, doesnt work.
so i restart my computer, and as it is booting up, i get this blue screen that like flickers and what not across my laptop screen. after its done booting up i get a message on my laptop that says "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" The thing is, I clicked restart...so it should not of been unexpected. It says that the problem was "blue screen" and that it was caused by the usb ports somehow.
Well then i load up itunes, plug my ipod into the comp again, and it syncs fine (at least for the nest 2 or 3 times) And all my usb ports work once again.
Any ideas on what is going on here? Is it a problem with my ipod, itunes, or computer?
Oh and after my ipod has been turned on for awhile and im using it, the grey area around the apps in the dock area flickers very slightly. I dont know if this is related.
    Thanks alot guys

ok thanks guys...but i have an update and it quite strange.
so i set my itunes so that it would NOT open when my ipod is plugged in (so that i could just plug my ipod into my comp and charge it without it automatically opening itunes and syncing it). So i plug my ipod into one of my two usb ports on the side of my laptop (i also have 2 in the back).
Oh and keep in mind i have a usb mouse plugged in using 1 of the rear usb ports during this process.
so my ipod starts charging and itunes doesnt open, so im happy. When the ipod was fully charged i unplugged it. after a min i decided i wanted to shop for some apps, so i decided to plug it back into my comp so i didnt use any battery...but my laptop didnt recognize it. i tried unpluggin then plugging back in a few times....didnt work. my usb mouse in the back still worked....and i also tried unpluggin that and pluggin it back in, and it continued to work as it should.
i then tried pluggin my touch into the second usb port on the side....didnt work. So i decided that since my usb mouse was working like it should in one of the rear ports, i would unplug that and then plug my ipod into that port. so i did this, but my ipod still was not recognized by my computer. so i unplugged my ipod and plugged my mouse back into the usb port...but now my mouse wasnt recognized either! so its like wherever i plug my touch into, it disables that usb port.
any help at all guys! this is so weird. im gonna try to update my drivers but i have tried previously and it didnt work so im not sure what to do.
    thanks alot

  • HT204266 iPod touch activation

I am trying to activate a new ipod touch. The activation server cannot be reached. Is this a common issue? Is there anything else I can try?

No. But it's Christmas day, I'd imagine 1,000,000 others are trying to activate at the exact same time. That puts stress on the servers. Try again tomorrow or the next day.

  • Strange iPod Touch Charges

About four to five years ago, I had lost my iPod Touch (2nd Generation) and, recently, some of my relatives have found it. When I first charged it, it only charged to about 20-25%. When I brought it to the Apple Store, they had told me that, if it was a battery issue, there was nothing they could do but replace the iPod, for the price of the battery of course.
Today, I had left it charging on a wall outlet for the heck of it. It seemed not to have charged at all, so I unplugged it to try and charge it from my computer instead. However, when I did so, it turned out to be fully charged.
Is this normal, and has this ever happened before? Or is my iPod not really charged, atbeit it thinks it is?

    Hey JEM24, thanks for replying!
Surprisingly enough, it seemed to remember I had a password on it, but I have no idea if it had any memory left on it. After trying a few too many times, it kept telling me to go to iTunes. When I first plugged it in to my Windows (which didn't have iTunes on it) it seemed to show it was nearly empty.
I would have restored it, but I only connected my iPod to two computers: one which I do not own, and the other (aforementioned Windows) which had its hard drive replaced after it failed. So, I lost everything on it... Oh well, c'est la vie.
As for testing the battery, I'll put it to the test tomorrow by trying to use it to and from work. If the battery needs replacing, I'll know by then.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • [NEED HELP] (Strange) iPod Touch Loses Connection to Servers

Within the last four days, I have been experiencing troubles with my iPod 4th Generation.
It has suddenly developed the problem where, when trying to use the internet, the wi-fi maintains connection - however, often the iPod does not seem to be able to connect with the server that it is trying to access.
This works for every application on the iPod, including iTunes, App Store and Safari.
I have tried fixing this by:
    Clearing applications from memory.
    Restarting iPod.
Turning the iPod off, then on again.
    Turning off the internet modem.
    Factory resseting the iPod.
I recently updated the iPod to iOS 6. This would be around five to six days to go.
Also, if it helps, the modem is connected to a Time Machine - not sure if network traffic going through there is the problem.
Any sort of help is appreciated, as the iPod is effectively dysfunctional.
    Thankyou.

Other devices connect fine to your router, right?
Do you have this problem when connected to other networks? If not that indicates a problem with your network

  • Can you track a lost/stolen ipod touch

MY ipod touch was lost/stolen. I thought I heard someone say at some point that these devices had something in them that allowed you to "track" where they are. Anyone know anything about this? I really want my baby back!

Unless you have a MobileMe account on your iPod Touch with Find My iPod Touch activated, you are out of luck. http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/iphone.html

I tried to restore, update and back up my ipod touch. once it said it was successful i clicked on the label of my ipod in itunes and it had written, "we're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time." now whenever i click on the label it just says that and on my ipod it tells me to plug into itunes when it already is. i didnt update restore or back it up with the latest version, so i downloaded the latest version, how do i start the process again so my ipod works!! help this is gay !!

Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
Two things come into my mind:
    1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
    2) Apples activation servers are down.
That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea.

  • IPod Touch 64GB activated October 2013 - how do I get the free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps?

I purchased (from an authorised seller - Dixons Duty Free, Heathrow) and activated an iPod Touch 64GB on 18th October 2013 (prior to the announcement of free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps but after the 1st Sepember 2013 date in their conditions). It had iOS6 preinstalled. I've updated to iOS7. How do I get the free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps? The App Store is trying to charge me for theese.

Problem solved from information found in another thread....
If your iOS device was activated for the first time after September 1, go to the App Storeon your iPod which should open to Featured. If not, tap on Featured at the lower left of the screen & scroll down to Collections & tap on New to the App Store? then scroll down to Apps Made by Apple & tap. You should now see the iWork & iLife apps as "FREE."

  • I bought a used iPod touch and when I try to set up my iCloud account, it says that the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this device. Is there a way around this?

I bought a used iPod touch and when I try to set up my iCloud account, it says that the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this device. Is there a way around this? I thought I could maybe set up the account on my PC and go from there, but it won't let me do that. It is forcing me to set up on the iPod. Am I doomed to have no iCloud account because I opted for a used device?

You say you have iOS 7 beta. If you are a developer you have access to the private OS 7 developer's forum

  • My ipod touch 5th gen is stuck on activation error, how do i fix it?

My ipod touch 5th generation is stuck on activation error and I got this for Christmas so I don't know what the ipod developer program is! please help

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • IPod touch 3G - activation required, will not sync properly, freezes up windows 7

    Hi,
I am having a lot of trouble with my iPod touch 3G.
I had not synced my iPhone 4 and my iPod touch for about a month as I was re-inputting my music into iTunes - I didn't want to sync them when not all the music I wanted would be synced onto them. Prior to syncing the devices, one day my iPod randomly displayed the "activation required" notification and the "connect to iTunes" screen. Neither my iPod nor my iPhone is jail broken, so this cannot be the cause of the deactivation. All I use my iPod for is plugging into my stereo system.
Regardless, I had finally managed to sort through all my music and had managed to sync my iPhone with no hitches. However, I ran into various issues with the iPod. A pop-up in iTunes said that it detect the device but could read it and that I would need to restore my iPod. So I did so (restored to the back-up). However, not even a third of the way into the restore everything just seemed to stop. My screen went black with only the mouse flickering. I restarted my computer and tried restoring it again (again to the back-up). It got further this time and actually managed to sync some songs (around 70 out of 850). However, a pop-up appeared saying that iTunes could not write from the song or disk. So I unplugged my iPod and plugged it back in and it immediately slowed down my computer. Chrome would not respond, Shockwave crashed, iTunes would not respond, etc.
Anyways, over the past couple days I have tried restoring the iPod (to factory settings) and that seems to have worked. I no longer have the constant "activation required" notification. iTunes seems to be having trouble syncing though. It will get a couple more songs synched and then display another pop-up saying that it could not write from the song files and then the synching process just gets stuck. The iPod no longer displays the synching icon, but iTunes remains stuck on "finishing sync".
(The problem cannot be with the songs as they sync perfectly fine to my iPhone).
On my iPod it shows all the songs which are/should be synched onto it. The synched songs appear in black (like normal) however, the majority of my songs are in a light grey and cannot be selected or played (basically it has the information about the song, but not the actual file itself). I can also use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. They are both greyed-out and say "No Wi-Fi" or "Unavailable" respectively.
Just as a note, I am on Windows 7 and have McAfee Antivirus Plus. I know that some people have some issues due to the firewall but I unsure as to how this could be the cause when my iPhone syncs perfectly well under the same conditions. I have iTunes 10.7.0.21 and my iPod is running on 5.1.1. If you need any additional information please ask!
If someone could please help, I would be extremely grateful! I'm at my wits end.
    Thanks!

See if disabling the antivirus and firewall resolves the problem.

  • IPod Touch 4gen disabled "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted" Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later.  Please help!

My daughter forgot her passcode.  Her iPod Touch 4gen is disabled.  I've tried everything I've read online.  I get to the "Restore" part on iTunes and then I get the message, "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted.  Make sure your network connections are correct and your network connection is active or try again later."  How can this be so hard to do?  Why isn't there a simpler solution.  I live 2 hours from the nearest Apple store.  Any advice you may offer would be very much appreciated.

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem
