Strange issue - Can't play songs in iTunes 7.5.0.20

I have a strange issue with iTunes 7.5.0.20 on my Windows Vista PC. I can preview songs in the iTunes store, or play songs from my library; however, after a few minutes both functions will stop working. The status bar, showing the song playing, does not move and there is no sound. I can log off, or reboot, and the function comes back for a few minutes and then it is broken again. This is very frustrating. I don't have this issue with other music software on the same PC. I have already done the remove iTunes & reinstall bit. Any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well, after a permission repair and reboot i can delete songs from playlists, but not the library. and syncing an ipod locks the entire system not just iTunes, and iTunes will not be killed.
did 7.5 get tested at all?

  • Can't play songs from iTunes library on MacBook Pro

I can't play anything from my iTunes (10.0) library on my MacBook Pro. When I try to, I get message that song could not be used as original file could not be found, and offer to locate it, and I end up with an exclamation mark against that file. Any ideas how to fix this?
PS Not having any problems syncing to iPhone and playing music from there.

Iphone will sync or manually manage with one and only one computer at a time.
Syncing or manually managing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with the content from the new computer.

  • My iPod synced automatically and now I can't play songs on iTunes.

I used to play my songs from my iPod all the time on iTunes. One day, I connected my iPod to my computer to charge it up and it started to sync automatically for no reason and now I can't seem to 'rewind' this and go back to the way things were.
What has happened? I have never synced my songs before (at least I don't think I have) but my songs on my iPod are very light in color and are non-playable on both of my computers now. :o(

    B-rock,
Thank you for replying to the issue I am having with my iPod. I think I may have tried to download an update for the iPod on iTunes, but I never completed the download or installed it, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?? I don't know if I should try to restore it to it's original settings or if that will delete all the songs I have on there. When I uncheck the sync button it deletes everything, so I know I can't do that option.
I don't think my kids have downloaded a newer version of iTunes on this computer and I know I didn't on my laptop, so that rules that possibility out.
It is just the craziest thing. They are there one day, then one a different day, I plug it in to charge and bam, it starts to sync out of the blue, and I have no control over what is happening.
I am not one that is very 'iPod literate' so I have no clue what it means to 'sync' the music, so in a nutshell, I'm not even sure what really happened when my music synced..... I know how to create the playlists, add the music, add the pictures, and do the basic stuff, but when it comes to BIG stuff, my kids know more than I do.... :o/

  • Can't play Songs in iTunes

Upgraded to 5.0.1 and now all of my songs are grayed out and cannot be played on my phone. No idea why, but you would think after a 2 hour upgrade process that wouldn't be a problem.
Is this how Apple defines a high-quality user experience? I was very optimistic that swtiching from Android to Apple would reduce the hassle factor. Worst experience since my old WinMo phone. My Droid was slow, but it worked.  My iPhone 4S is fast and elegant, but not useful if it won't perform the most basic tasks, like syncing easlity and reliably.
And btw, the battery life still blows.

I have the same problem with my Itunes. Most of the time I can close Itunes then reopen it. After that I just double click the first song in the library and it will usually play; then it will work until I either close the program again or the computer is either restarted, shutdown, or goes to sleep. I'm not sure what is causing it.

  • Suddenly, all my audio is not working.  I can play songs from itunes but app audio is gone. What can I do/

I'm not sure what is happening.  Suddenly all the audio is missing! I dont have ringtone when I get a call, or for an alarm.  I can only play songes from itunes.  All the sounds from apps and games are gone too.  I have tried a restart, and i guess the next step is a reset.  What else can I do?

Is the silent switch on the side of the iphone on?

  • Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.

Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.  This onloy seems to happen when I double-click on the song to play it in itunes.  If I just hit play, this doesnt happen.  As a result, I have several albums now in which the songs are in the wrong order.  Its very frustrating, as this error then transfers over to my ipod every time I sync it.  When I choose the info. for the songs, it has them correctly listed (i.e., it lists the songs as being #1 of 19 on the CD, for example).  But then the song will have placed by Itunes as #5 of 19 for whatever reason.  Itunes does not do this every time, but does it with enough frequency to be maddening.  Any thoughts?

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks

To be able to play any audio source on your MacBook Pro, you might want to take a look at an application like Airfoil. More info below:

  • IPod connects to iTunes 9 but can't play songs

I just updated to iTunes 9 and now I cannot play songs off the iPod. I can see the songs in iTunes, I can get the song info, but the songs are grayed out and I cannot play them.
    My iPod Touch works perfectly.
    How is this resolved?

    Hello masweet,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The songs are probably greyed out because you have the iPod set up to "automatically" sync from your iTunes library. In order to play the songs from within iTunes off the iPod is to enable the "manually manage music and videos" button from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. If you had previously set your iPod up for manual management, the update may have reverted it to automatic. So it will be as simple as changing it back.
If still no luck, the update may have confused your iPod into thinking that it was set up with an entirely different iTunes library and will need to be restored in order to regain this functionality.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Kevin,
Have you authorized the Computer to your Apple ID?
If not, sign on to iTunes.
Then got to the Store menu option at the top of the screen (CTL+B if it is not showing), and click on it to display the dropdown, and select Authorize this computer.
If that doesn't work, then sign on your Dad's iTunes ID and repeat the Authorization process.

  • I cannot see the details of the playing song on iTunes Radio.

I cannot see the details of the playing song on iTunes Radio on my iOS Devices. On pc and mac it's fine but on all my iOS devices, the album artwork, title and artist info is missing; however, the song plays. I can see the songs i played on my iPad when i open up iTunes on my pc. I restarted the device, logged out and in several times with my apple id, nothing changes.

Hi, I have this problem too. I've uploaded photos of my granddaughter to iCloud Drive on my 5 year old PC and can see the content on my PC at iCloud .com - though the system does not allow me to see minimised photos, just lots of numbered, blue rectangle icons. I spent over 2.5 hours with Apple Support yesterday and they could NOT resolve the issue in any straightforward manner, though did suggest I go through the same time consuming uploading process placing the same photos in the Beta version of 'Photos' available at iCloud.com. What a cumbersome system. Why hasn't Apple offered an iCloud Drive app (free of charge) so that once content has been placed in iCloud Drive it can Bev retrieved on any iOS device, as Apple suggest. Here is what they say at Apple.com (see also the illustrations they offer for iCloud Drive on an iPad - I was informed yesterday, by two advisors, that they couldn't find way to locate the suggested pages either?)
Storing files in iCloud is simple. Just as it should be.
To upload your files to iCloud, simply drag them into the iCloud Drive on your Mac running OS X Yosemite or PC running Windows 7 or later. Or start a new document using an iCloud-enabled app on your iOS device. Then you’ll be able to access those documents from all your devices.

  • Can't play songs after importing

I bought a new computer and imported all my music files from a thumb drive.  Now when I try to play songs in ITunes I get an error message saying the song can not be played because the original file cannot be located.

You don't need the thumb drive connected to do the test, all you want to know is where itunes thinks the music files are located.
The tracks should play if the thumb drive is plugged in and has the same drive letter as it had when you added the tracks.
    Presumably M: the thumb drive?
Now to confirm what has happened, go to Preferences on the edit menu.
If you don 't see the iTunes menu, press CTRL B to get it.
    Look on the advanced tab.
Is "copy to iTunes music folder when adding to library" checked?
If it is not, this confirms the problem.
