Strange issue in custom Success/Failure captions

Hi,
I have a strange issue in my custom Success/Failure caption. If I use 'S' letter in my customized caption .bmp file, it is not showing properly in the captivate. Attached file is for your reference. I tried converting text into image in photoshop, still it shows the same thing. Any thoughts??
Thanks in Advance,
-Ajay

OK.  That's what I thought.
So what I think is going on here is due to the way Captivate assembles text captions that can stretch to any size based on the component images.  I think your corner image that contains the text is being stretched right at the point where the S character is located on the end of Congratulations.  Captivate is achieving the resizable text caption by repeating the last few pixels of each background image.
If you want to test my theory, just make your Congratulations text slightly shorter (use a condensed font or make the font size smaller) and I think your issue will go away.

  • Suggestion: Click Box needs option to display success/failure caption until next click

As it stands right now, if I want to put several click boxes on a page and have the success captions for each appear in the same location, I can only set the success/failure caption to display for a limited amount of time. That is the only way to make the text disappear from the screen.  The problem is, I want to have several different click boxes. When the user clicks, the success caption should display. Then the user shoudl be able to click on another click box and have the success caption for that appear in the same location. The problem is the success caption from the previous click box may still be displayed (depending on how long it was set to display for).  There really needs to be an option to select that says display until next click.  It does no good to guess how long a user will want to read the success/failure text before they decide to click on another text box.
You have the same problem with audio. As it is right now, a user can click on several click boxes and have several different audio tracks playing simultaneously. There needs to be an option to disable the first audio track upon clicking the next click box.
I can't believe this problem hasn't been fixed before this. It is a very annoying problem. I never had half the problems I have with Captivate, when I used Authorware. If there is some kind of work-around I'd like to know what it is.

My suggestion would be that you think a little further outside the box to solve this 'issue'.
It appears to me that you want to display information in captions that appear and disappear based on user interaction, correct?  AND you also want audio to play at the same time, but you don't want more than one audio track to play, correct?
To achieve what you want requires at least two separate mouse events.  One event triggers the caption and audio to appear.  The other must trigger any previous captions to disappear and immediately shut off their audio.  Since you don't know which of your objects will be the first one interacted with by the user, all of them must be set up to check for any previously invoked captions and audio before turning on their own caption and audio.
Now all of this CAN be done using Captivate's variables and advanced actions.  But there IS a much simpler solution staring you in the face. Why is it essential that all of this MUST happen with mouse clicks?  Why not use mouse overs events instead?
Captivate provides rollover caption and rollover image objects for which you can attach audio to the object that appears on rollover.  These objects have two mouse events (rollover and rollout). Rollover triggers the caption to appear so that the text displays and it's audio plays, while the rollout triggers the caption to disappear and automatically shut off the audio.  This means that the user merely needs to move their mouse around the screen rolling over the hot spots to see information and hear audio. And if you just place a click box or button on the slide to pause the playhead, your user can spend as much time as they want reviewing the content before moving on.  You don't have to worry about rewinding the playhead with Advanced Actions because clicks on your content objects would resume play.
These rollover objects can be set up in seconds with audio attached.  I'm surprised more Captivate authors don't use them given how easy they are to apply in comparison to other click-driven solutions using Advanced Actions.

  • Is it possible to hide success/failure captions in the test, but make them available in the review?

    Hi Everyone
I've got a 50 question, timed quiz and we want to disable the success and failure captions because they slow the students down, frankly, are kind of annoying.  However, we want to allow the users to review the quiz after taking it.  The problem is that the review feed back seems to use the success/failure object, so, when you review the quiz, you just see the questions with no feedback.  Kind of pointless.  Does anyone know of a way to disable (or remove) the success/failure captions in the quiz, while providing feedback in the quiz review?
    Thanks

    Hello,
For the moment a lot of people are still working with CP4, others have adopted CP5 already, so it helps if you mention the version you're using.
The feedback showed during review is in the Review area (you can see it in the slide on the stage). The message in this Review Area is not linked to the Correct/Incorrect/Incomplete messages you can show during answering the Questions. If you are using CP5 you can deactivate the Correct and Incomplete messages in the Quiz Properties panel, region Options. You cannot deactivate the Incorrect message. If the user answers correctly and the Correct caption is not there, the project will continue after clicking on the Submit button. However when the user answers incorrectly, the Incorrect message will appear however, instructing them to use 'Y' or click on the slide to continue.
During Review the user will see the Review Message, if you allowed Review (Quiz Preferences, Settings). The message showed is configured in the "Quiz Review Message' that you'll see in the Properties panel when the Review area is selected (or using the button 'Quiz Review Messages...' in the Quiz Preferences, Settings). If the user answered correctly, the message 'You answered this question correctly" (is indeed similar to the Correct caption). If the user answered incorrectly, his answer will be displayed and the correct answer (which is different from the Incorrect caption).
Hope this explains the difference.  If you are using CP4, let me know and I'll try to explain the workflow in that UI.

  • Memory Game Success/Failure Caption Duration

Is there any way to extend the amount of time the success and failure captions stay on the screen for the memory game in Captivate 7?

Memory game can fail because of time out as well. Since the variable assigned to memory game does not show up in the variables list, I don't think you can delay it for failure condition.
For success condition, delete the default captions, add your own caption, name it as say, Success, assign the following advanced action for On Success.
    Show Success.
    Assign cpCmndGotoFrame with CpInfoCurrentFrame

  • Slide Audio and Failure caption aduio plays at same time

I have tried to read the many postings before I submitted
this question. I am sorry if I am still not getting it.
I have created a simulation and I am having trouble pausing
the audio when the user clicks too soon (before the slide audio
stops). When I am testing I will click the wrong area at the time
the audio asks the user to click. (Basically I am clicking too soon
on purpose just as some users might do.) When I click too soon in
the wrong area the 'Failure' caption appears with audio. That is
exactly what I want to happen. But the audio for the slide
continues so I have two audios now playing at the same time. I am
sure it is due to my option settings but which one?
I have a slide with audio that plays for the entire length of
    the slide (7.7 secs).
I have one click box on the slide set to 'Continue' on
success. Displays for 4 seconds. Appears on the timeline at 3.7
seconds and lasts for the duration of the slide. The click box has
the following options selected: 'Failure' , 'Stop slide audio when
clicked' , 'Pause project until user clicks' , 'Pause for
    success/failure captions'.
The 'Failure' caption options are set to display for 5.6
seconds (the client wanted audio instructions to guide the user
when the user had the wrong response). The Transition is set to
'Fade in and out'. Both 'In' and 'Out' are set to .5 seconds.
How do I get the Slide Audio to stop? It does not have to
    resume just stop.
    Thank you,
    C

    Hi there C
Firstly, apologies for the slow response, but, speaking for
myself, I tend to not answer questions where I am not comfortable
in giving the right answer. However, your plea for assitance has
dragged me out of my shell, so here goes:
My understanding is that on a click object, if you have
selected "stop slide audio on click", then that object will stop
the slide audio ONLY if the user clicks ON it. In other words, a
click anywhere else will bring up the failure caption if this is
set, BUT the slide audio will continue.
Now, to sail into totally uncharted territory, there are 2
    things you could try/test:
Insert a click box over the whole slide that "continues on
success" but has your failure audio linked to it and enable the on
success caption, but edit it to show as a failure caption. In other
words, the user has clicked on this object incorrectly, therefore
they need to see and hear the failure of having not having chosen
the correct option. I would suggest that this click box displays
for the rest of the slide, but sits below your original box on the
    timeline.
The second option is to set your original click box to
navigate to a duplicate slide on failure that does not contain the
slide audio, but is then set up as your "failure" slide with a
slide navigation back to the original slide after the audio has
completed. If you choose this option, then it might be a good idea
to have your failure text and audio include something like "let us
try again" as the original slide will start playing from scrarch
    again.
Please let me know via this post if this helped or not!!
    Luck
    Andrew

  • Click Box does not show failure caption

In one of the slides, I have 4 pictures. I put click box over
each of the pictures, one of them I set success caption, the other
3 failure caption. When I click the success box, success caption
shows, but when i click the other box, the failure caption could
    not show.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks

    Hi EstherH
I don't believe you can make it work that way. Here is how
Success/Failure captions work with Click Boxes. Any click on the
box itself will cause the Success Caption to dsplay (If it has been
enabled). Any click OUTSIDE the Click Box area will cause the
Failure Caption to display. (Again, if it has been enabled).
I'm thinking you can get what you want by thinking backwards
a bit. For each of the three incorrect Click Box areas, configure
    the
Success Caption to resemble what you want the Failure to
read. You may also wish to change the caption style so it's
different. If you did this, a click on the other Click Box would
trigger it's Success Caption to display, but it would effectively
present a Failure to the user.
    Make sense? Hope so... Rick

  • Custom success and failure messages on quiz results slide

I'm trying to create a custom success and failure message on the quiz results slide, using certain colours in the text caption to reflect our company's brand. So I've added an advanced action on entering the slide so that if the quiz percentage is 80% or more, the success message shows, and the failure message hides. It seems that this should work, but for some reason, only the failure message displays, regardless of whether I fail or pass. Has anyone else tried this with any success?
    Thanks for your help!

I've changed the retake and continue buttons to image buttons, then added my custom success and failure captions which I've named 'fail_f' and 'pass_f':
And here is my advanced action on entering the quiz results slide:
The hide-button, is a white rectangle that I added so that I could place it over the retake button if they passed the quiz successfully.

  • Quiz Success and Failure Captions

Is it possible to set the length of time a quiz success or
failure caption is displayed for the user? I thought I saw settings
somewhere but for the life of me can't figure out where to do this.
    Thanks - Helen

    Hi betty's mom
Unfortunately this is the way it has always worked in
Captivate. Actually, version 2 is a step better, as the caption
text is no longer misleading. (In Captivate 1, the text said
Correct/Incorrect - Click to continue, which implied you had to
click directly on the caption in order to proceed.)
If you strongly feel you should have the abiity to have them
simply disappear after a pre-determined period of time, please
submit an Enhancement Request. You may do this by

  • Strange issue with RAM upgrade: It works but it doesn't! Please help.

    Hello Everyone,
I have a very strange issue with my iMac since upgrading my RAM from 4 to 12 gig. When I first installed the new RAM it booted up and ran great. The next time I went to boot the iMac up it swtiched on but didn't get as far as the first white boot up screen. I tried turning it off and on a few times using the power on/off button but still no success. I decided to remove the RAM and reseat it. The computer then booted up again fine. Here's the problem though: when I went to switch my iMac on the next day it wouldn't boot up. Again, I took the RAM out and put it back in and the iMac booted up fine. I've checked the status of the RAM in the system profiler and it reports that everything is OK. So, I'm at a loss. Obviously, I don't want to go through this process every time I want to start up my Mac. Any ideas/solutions would be very gratefully received.
    Many thanks in advance.

I completely agree with you. It will be one of the 3 issues you outline. The machine was bought brand new and has never given me a problem. It is just the introduction of the new RAM that has started a problem. However, I did just risk a restart and it booted up fine. I don't know if a restart is any different to shutting down and then pressing the on/off button to start the computer. Maybe my last reseating has done the trick or maybe my thinking is flawed because restarting involves a different process to booting up by pressing the on/off button. I don't know.
In the part of the world I'm sitting in it's night time now so I will leave the diagnostics running and check the results in the morning. I hope the issue is now resolved anyway. This sort of thing takes me back to my dark PC days although in this case I know it's probably not the Mac's fault.
    Thanks again. Very much appreciated.

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap non-apple adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Please go to the below link to test if you are having a speaker hardware failure.

  • Problem with formatting failure caption...

This might be a bug or a bad Captivate file.
Project file (one of 17) has sucess and failure captions. Set the Failure as adobe red/ verdana 12.
On day 1 I do this and all is well.
On day 3 I open this file and find the failure caption set to adobe red with a yellow highlight behind the text.
Checked the preferences for the project file. Set to adobe red/verdana 12
On the specific failure text I choose edit preference to deselect the yellow highlight
    Change to white-no luck
    Change to "None"-no luck
Change to something other than yellow-accepted  but now the new color is "locked" and cannot be reverted to the yellow.
I'n new at triaging Captivate issues. Thinking about opening the backup file or fetching a copy from my archives on the premise that this individual file is corrupt. I'd really not want to have to recreate from scratch.
    Any thoughts would be helpful.

    It's really very simple.
In Captivate go to File > Export > Project Captions and Closed Captions > Name it > Open resulting Word Doc, it will look like this:
The column on the right, outlined in red, titled "Updated Text Cation Data", is the one you will need to update
In Word (not sure which version you have, this is 07) open the Find and Replace tool.  Instead of entering text, click the button labeled "Format" then choose "Font".
Another dialog box will open, "Find Font".
Enter in the current font info, including the color red as that will separate the failure captions from all the rest easily in Word.  Then click inside the Replace With field and again click the Format Button and repeat the font process, now entering in the Bold that you desire.
Now, you can either click replace all (you run the risk of changing captions you didn't want to, though choosing red should eliminate that and worked in my test) or replace them one by one so you're sure you only change the ones you intend to.
Once you finish save and close the document with it's original name.  Then in Captivate simply import the Captions back in (File > Import > Project Captions and Closed Captions) and viola, you're all set.
Have a good night and good luck in the morning.  I figured I'd throw this out there in case I'm tied up tomorrow.  If you already knew maybe someone else can benefit.

  • Drag and drop interaction failure captions

I have a drag and drop interaction with one drop target and multiple drag objects. Only one drag object is the correct answer. When a learner drags an incorrect drag object to the drag target I would like a failure caption -- that's pretty straightforward. However, I want a different failure capture for each of the wrong drag objects so that there is a different explanation of why each object is wrong. Then I need a success caption for when the correct drag object is dragged to the drop target.
    Is this  possible?

    Hi Jay,
Yes, could create such a scenario, but the Submit button is not used in that case, because the feedback will appear immediately when a drag object has been placed on the target. Is that OK?
    Here the work flow:
Besides the object, create all the feedback text containers that you need, correct and incorrect and label them so that they are easily recognizable. I labeled them FB_1, FB_2... because my objects were Drop1, Drop2...
Make those feedbacks initially invisible and group them in Gr_FB
Create the drag&drop in the normal way with one correct link
Select the target and in the in the D&D panel, click on the Accept button, change the settings like this
The advanced actions are pretty simple, standard, with two statements: Hide Gr_FB and Show FB_n  (with the appropriate feedback container - you cannot use Shared actions in this dialog).
In the D&D panel, choose Infinite for the number of attempts and uncheck the Failure caption.

  • Strange issue in FBA internet site

    Hello All..
Last week we observed very strange issue in our production servers, it is pure FBA public site..
No matter we click anything it shows the authentication (login page), the site custome master page was coming and this was a custom login page..
Now when we restored the content DB from last backup the issue went off.
I have already checked permissions, anonymous policy, everything was as it is..
No special errors in DB log or app log..
wondering what could be the issue...

This indicates that there was a image\ file which was checked out or unpublished which was causing this issue
If you can recreate the issue, please upload fiddler trace so we can analyze it.

  • Strange issue in my n82 handset

I experience a strange issue in my n82 handset. When I'm listening to any radio station the sound suddenly swaps from stereo to mono and back, especialy when I'm on the move. First I thought it was because of the headset, but yesterday I bought HS-45 headset and the problem still persists. I have never had such an issue in my previous nokia phones. Maybe somone is familiar with this problem and knows if it is a hardware failure or a soft one that is common to this model and can be fixed in future firmware updates. I read about similar problem concerning N73 and E51, but no solution. I live in the center of Kolkata so the FM signal is strong. Any ideas how to solve the problem?

Then I'm back to the FM signal - because the headset cable is used for an aerial, it tends to be a bit flaky. Reception on my N80 and my N95 8GB fluctuates even when I have the phone laid on a table playing through the loudspeaker.
The only alternative explanation would be some sort of dodgy connection between the FM receiver and the port which is possible, but I would think pretty unlikely.

  • Simulation-failure captions won't display

The failure captions won't disply in a simulation, only the hint caption. I removed other interacitve buttons and it still doesn't work.

I've created a simple project that recreates this issue, with hopes that someone here or someone from the Captivate team can take a look and see if I'm missing something, or acknowledge as a bug.
    http://www.eternal-visions.com/FailureCap.cptx.zip
If you test the project, as is, the failure captions will not work.  If you uncheck the "remain on top" box of the smart shape button on slide 1.. failure caps return.  But, then the smart shape gets burried under other objects.
    Thanks for your time.
