Strange iTunes 7.0.1 update/sync issue

Ok, here's the deal.
If I boot up my computer, start iTunes, and then connect an iPod it will begin syncing normally then it diplays the error saying, "some items could not be updated because your iPod software is out of date". When I go to the summary tab for the iPod the update and restore buttons are both greyed out and can not be clicked.
Here's the really weird part. If I try to sync again by choosing file>>sync "iPod" iTunes displays a message that says "iPod update failed. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again." So I do that. I click the eject symbol next to the iPod on the left nav section, unplug the USB cable, then plug it back in. Now the iPod screen comes up with the "Do Not Disconnect" screen but iTunes never finds it.
When I download iTunes again to try and reinstall it the iTunes.dmg file fails to mount every time! I'm sort of at my wits end. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I think I might have found the answer to my own question. Resetting the PMU seems to have done the trick. Here's a thread that explains how to do that.

    I’ve noticed bunch of conversations here about issues with the new version of iTunes NOT syncing with outlook contacts / calendars but none of them seem to be resolved. I also have lost my calendar sync since I installed the new iTunes. I have un-installed / re-installed iTunes, tried creating a new PST file, created a new mail account, tried pretty much everything I can think of and nothing works. I have wasted more than 23 hours of my time playing with trying to fix this and I am getting pretty fed up. My question is has ANYBODY actually made it work. I fear we may be wasting our time meaning that there is a bug that no one at Apple cares to acknowledge. Thoughts?

    I've been searching through the forum, but did not find someone having a real solution in my situation having the problem as described above. I defintly CANNOT delete all my recurrent appointments! I have about 10.000 elements in my Outlook calender, because I'm really using it for planning my whole business day. Isn't there another solution?
    I was syncing my iPad-calender with MS Outlook (2003 SP3) successful during the last days, but "suddenly" (I think, it was after the iTunes Update) the syncing process was silently stopped as beeing successfull, and no appointments were synced anymore.
    I already followed the rules to resetting the syncdata history of iTunes and also forced to overwrite the iPads calender, but it still remains as before.
    Then I decided to delete the calender by stopping the calender syncing, I mean, I deactivated the hook and then iTunes asked, if I will delete all the data on the iPad, where I then agreed to, as you also describe. Then the calender was successfully emptied, but activating it again after syncing, the OLD state is synced back to the iPad and not my currently modified scheduled appointments from Outlook. This is a miracle, because these are old/deleted data!!! It seems the iPad is just doing a "undo".
    I already tried the "Help -> Start diagnosis" feature, this said, everything is fine. So, now I don't know, what to to?! I just want to have my calender synchronized!
    Changing the files "ssleay32.dll" and "libeay32.dll" by updating OpenSSL or copying from the iTunes "http://...\Apple\Mobile Device Support"-Folder did not lead to any changes :-/.
    I'm using iTunes v9.2.1.4, iPad iOS 3.2.1, Outlook 2003 SP3.
    So is there someone having some more ideas or giving me a hint, where I maybe could read somthing about a possible error in a log or something like that? Maybe, only ONE appointment is "ill"; how could I detect it?

  • IPhone 3GS 32gb - iOS4.0.1 - iTunes 9.2.1.4 - Sync issues / Set up as new

    Hello.
    I've had issues with my iPhone ever since I upgraded from iOS 3.1.3 to iOS 4 (and subsequently iOS4.0.1), to be more precise, my issues are with syncing my phone.
    When I upgraded to iOS4, I had an error and had to restore my iPhone while upgrading.
    Ever since that happened, every other day when I connect my iPhone to my iTunes, it is not properly recognized and I get the option to set up as new or restore from backup.
    90% of the time, restoring from a backup doesn't work and whether or not it works, afterwards iTunes forgot which apps/music/photos/videos/etc I wanted to sync, which means every time it happens, not only do I lose all SMS messages and App data, I also have to reselect the apps, videos and music I want to sync from scratch.
    It gets annoying now and I've tried several of the common solutions.
    - Uninstall/reinstall of iTunes, making sure I have the most common version.
    - chosing another USB port
    - reset all iPhone settings
    - reset all iPhone settings and wiping the phone content.
    I also cleaned up my App-library in which I noticed I had several duplicate apps ( for example: ExampleApp and ExampleApp.1.0.1 ).
    Nothing works and I'm getting frustrated over it. I don't lose my contacts because of the Outlook sync I have, nor mails because they are an imap account, but having a password-keeping app like 1Password which loses its data every other day is rather annoying.
    Is there anything else I can try?
    Does anyone else experience such issues?
    I cannot make Genius-appointments, as there is no Applestore anywhere near where I live in Germany. I could of course try and contact my phone-company but I am guessing they will direct me at the manufacturer.

    I had the problem where I got an unknown error when upgading from 3.1.3 to 4.0.1 last night. It put my phone into recovery & said that I had to restore it. Tried to twice but I still kept getting the unknown error message. Wasn't until I restarted my computer that it let me restore.
    All of my music, videos, contacts, etc are fine. But I found that none of my apps were restored to the phone. So I had to go back through & manually drag each one back onto the iPhone in iTunes and then re-sync it. But now none of the apps will load or open. I have tried switching the phone off & back on a number of times but it hasn't helped.
    Next I am going to try to restore again & see if that helps. From what I understand, the apps should have also been restored from the previous backup. Am not sure what happened in my case though

  • Itunes 10.5.3 update radio issue.

    Just had a software update notification for iTunes with the new iBooks stuff in, so I updated it, like you do, and now it continually tries to update radio lists, and keeps throwing up error messages, stopping me from usingTunes.
    Clicking the X in the window to cancel it doesn't work, the only way I can stop the error message is to close iTunes
    the error message says; "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later."
    There's nothing wrong with my internet connection, but it does seem to happen after my iPhone connects via wifi

    I often got this message with 10.2, then I updated to 10.3 today and suddenly I started getting it all the time (several error messages a minute). In another thread on issue, someone recommended disabling Radio in Parental Controls and I did so ~5 minutes ago and it seemed to work. Granted, if you actually use Radio then this isn't a solution, but I never do so I'm happy with this solution.

    iTunes is not supposed to 'mount', for syning over wi-fi, a device such as an iPad, unless the device is plugged in, yet it does all the time.
    Use Case: Running iTunes on dedicated media PC and iPad3 and/or iPhone being used or asleep.
    - iTunes 'mounts' iPad, as though it were going to sync over wi-fi.
    - Not supposed to do that unless the iPad is plugged in.
    - iTunes 'mounts' iPhone 4 as though it were going to sync over wi-fi
    - Not supposed to do that unless the iPhone is plugged in.
    Bad UX, no cookie!!!
    The collective intelligence of Apple engineering is deteriorating very quickly.  It is evident in the products introduced over the past year.   Mmmmhhh could it be outsourcing, I'm just sayin'!

    I'm having the same issue, running 10.7 and with both a new iPad and an iPhone 5 (both running iOS 6). Windows 7 64-bit FWIW. Also of note, it was working with only minor hickups on the most recent version of 10.6 (although sometimes iTunes wouldn't "recognize" my iPhone or iPad), and I've told the firewall (Symantec Endpoint Protection) to allow the wifi MAC addresses for both iDevices. Hopefully this is fixed with iTunes 11, although syncing is less and less relevant.

    after updating itunes to the 10.3.1.55 version my ipod would not work, I tried rebooting and syncing then I decided to just do a restore on my Ipod touch (4thgen ) then rebooted my computer and everything is back in order and working normal,

    I was told by support that iphone 4 and outlook 2010 will not sync 2 ways.  Need outlook 2007 for 2 way syncing, currently only one way syncing from pc to iphone with outlook 2010.  Not sure if trying google calendar sync will take care of the problem?  Any feedback appreciated...

    I was trying to upload 2 new albums I have and it seems it re-synced my whole music library to my iphone.
    Is there a video or something I can watch that shows how to use iTunes correctly, and to sync new songs without having to re-sync the whole entire library to my iPhone.

    There really isnt much to syncing music. I have read several posts of folks complaining that making a simple change to one song caused the entire library to resync.
    Suggestion - turn off automatic syncing when you plug your iPhone. Then choose Sync only selected items, and then select all your music. Sync. Then make a change to one song and manually sync again. See if only that one song syncs.

    I have an ipad 2 and itunes 10.2.2.12
    I synced my ipad when i got it and now i want to link it up with my itunes to copy some of my ipod songs over.
    the problem i am having is, when i connect my ipad it is coming up with the options to set up the ipad, and the only options are:
    -set up as a new iPad
    - restore from the backup of: monkeypaws iPad [this is the coeerct name of the ipad]

    now from what I can tell neither options of these are good. it reads to me that it will either wipe it all and start it up as new. or restore it to how i have it 2 months ago when it was new. so I will lose all the apps, games and videos I currently have installed on it, and every thing i have saved from those apps and games. is this correct? is there any way to skip this n get the computer to match itself up to what is in the iPad??

    FWIW, I setup AirPrint for WIndows over the weekend. This is a free WIndows app that you install as a service on your Windows desktop/laptop. That then acts as an AirPrint server. On the iPad, when you come to select the printr you want to use, any printers accessible by the Windows machine apears and can be printed to.
    It is a bit fiddly to set-up but it worked fine for my network attached Brother laser. It's worth a go:

  • Update syncing issues

    Tried to update and sync my ipad.  Shows I have space, when I attempt to sync it says I dont have enough space, then I attempt to remove a few aps to make room, but since it thinks I dont have enough space it stops syncing.  WTH?

    ... Just wanted to add that, as I watch the sync process, it reports that it's preparing the sync, determining which apps to load and syncing mail ... but it never says anything about videos. The syncing process takes all of 9 seconds, which seems much too rapid.
    I wonder if it's even seeing the videos / tv shows at all?

    I cannot download iTunes 11.1 as I am on Mac OS X 10.5. How do I now sync my iPhone which is on iOS7?

    Likewise, I have a Yamaha RX-V473 which plays music via airplay from iPhone/iPad without problems. Since I upgraded my Mini to Mavericks (now 10.9.3) the iTunes airplay to the Yamaha is intermittent and after a song or so it gives up and shows an exclamation mark in iTunes on the Mini.
    I eliminated the problem by doing two things (all from other recommendations):
    Created a /etc/sysctl.conf file containing the line:  net.link.ether.inet.arp_unicast_lim: 5 -> 0
    Disabled IPv6 on the ethernet interface by using the command:   networksetup -setv6off Ethernet
    I was very pleased to have my music back but (as I now learn Bonjour needs IPv6) now my iPhones will not sync to iTunes remotely (wifi to the ethernet interface via a router - the Mac Mini wifi interface is disabled). If I re-enable IPv6 the airplay bombs out but the iPhone sync works!
    All airplay music and syncing via wifi worked fine before the Mavericks upgrade. Needless to say, airplay to an airport express device was not affected by the upgrade, just the Yamaha. I'm pretty annoyed to have to delve into the unix commands to fix something like this. The reason I bought a mac was to NOT have to fiddle about for hours troubleshooting. Combined with "beach-balling" my iTunes often, I think the networking in Mavericks is gash with SMB problems and spurious ARP broadcasts. There's nothing wrong with Yamaha's implementation of airplay and there is nothing wrong with my network set up. So now I have to contemplate a roll-back or more hours of troubleshooting.   • Audio Sync issues - PLEASE help

    I have created many videos in iMovie '09.    I have used the HD setting for them, 1280x720 even though they were shot in SD format.  I have uploaded them to YouTube and they all view just fine.  They all viewed just fine in Quicktime version 7.6.6, as well.
    I have been doing this for years now, since at least 2009, and all video/audio has worked flawlessly together.
    My most recent problem (past few months) has been that I am now running Mac OS X version 10.6.8.    My iTunes is 10.4  and my Quicktime is now 10.0
    And now my audio and video WILL NOT SYNC. 
    I need help very badly because I have a presentation on Saturday and I need to load a bunch of videos (in the same viewer window) and have those videos play in a loop, one right after the other, while I'm talking to prospective clients.
    I put these same movies into Quicktime Player 7 version 7.6.6  and they play just fine, still -  I just tested this on my imac and my macbook. 
    I need these videos to play in my iTunes, but the audio/video sync issues have ruined my video play. 
    Can someone PLEASE help me remedy this situation.  I would be forever grateful. I have casually searched for an answer, repeatedly but I need to remedy this by Friday night.

    What format are you using in iTunes to play them back?  Are these the exact same files as the one, you are playing back in Quicktime 7?

  • Sync issues after iOS 8 update

    I have an iPhone 5S, 64 GB. After updating to iOS8 I got sync issues. "Waiting for changes to be applied" never disappeared. Also the storage usage in iTunes 11.4 is wrong. iTunes said I had 6GB free, when I had in fact 20GB. I restored the phone back to firmware, restored the backup. All was fine until I made setting changes in iTunes what I want to sync. The same issue in iTunes is back again. I already deleted my voice memos as someone recommended in another threat but that didn't help.
    Any ideas how I can solve the problem, would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • How do I get rid of lip-sync issues with iTunes 10.2.2.12?

    Hi Everyone.
    Firstly, a very Happy Easter!
    I'm having lip-sync issues with iTunes playback on my PC. The video is largely smooth with the occaisional choppiness when the CPU is made to work hard. (Playback on my iPod Touch is fine).
    The system stats for my PC are at the bottom of the post.
    The sound is produced through a Creative Live Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card.
    Video is through a NVIDIA Geforce 6200 with 512Mb of RAM. (All video and audio drivers are up to date).
    The physical set-up is that I have iTunes installed on the C drive and my media installed on an external USB hard-drive.This isn't just a problem with 10.2.2.12 - it's been there for the last few updates.
    I suppose my main questions are:
    Should iTunes and my media be on the same drive? (Which would mean the external drive as I'm short on space on the C drive).
    Is there some combination of settings in QuickTime that will solve this? (I've tried different combinations, but it doesn't really help).
    Is the spec (below) of my PC causing any issues.

    Select *List view* instead of *Album list view*. These are in the View menu or the boxes next to Search, on the right top of iTunes.
    and the column next to it with a number in it that I have absolutely no idea what it's for. I want those two columns OUT.
    In List view, you can turn off every column (in menu View > View options) except track name.

  • Itunes sync issue cant get past find my iphone page. has been months alr.

    When ever i connect my iphone to my computer, it would bring up itunes but as soon as the iphone page loads this appears:

    there does not seem to be a way to get past this page and the links are broken too.i have been having this problem for a few months already and when i tried calling apple, they did not know what to do either. i'm hoping someone would have the answer and the solution to this problem.

    I had the same problem last night... I solved it but really just got around it.
    background
    - Existing setup was itunes 9.x with an IPOD worked great for many years
    - bought a new iphone 4 monday
    - connected to windows 7 64bit dekstop and got the setup text in itunes for "find my iphone" with two options (jave script links) that were dead links did nothing - you are stuck here
    - tried my other laptop (also already loaded with itunes 9.x same result
    - tried upgrading itunes to 10.2.1 same results
    - wiped the iphone same results
    - removed itunes - used reg cleaner to scrub all references and loaded 10.2.1 itunes fresh from a download (rebooting laptop a lot) Same results
    How i got around it after 5 hours of trial and error
    - I got my laptop that never had itunes installed ever - loaded itunes 10.2.1 and then attached the iphone 4 to sync - it installed a new driver for the iphone and the iphone was successfully connected to itunes. I synced to this itunes without any issues. although there was nothing to sync from this machine.
    - I then took the laptop back to the machine that I had not removed itunes (just upgraded itunes) and it was able to connect to itunes and sync without any issues. I had to be make sure it was defined to this laptops copy of itunes but it works now without issue.
    I can only conclude that the driver or older version of itunes had set the device in a strange state in regards to syncing and establishing connectivity for a sync with itunes and defining it to a new machine with a new install of itunes and having the driver for iphone 4 freshly installed cleared that state it was in.
    More work should be done by the apple engineers to determine technically what the root casuse is but I was able to get around the issue.

What is this issue? Usually I would just have to plug either device into iTunes and everything would sync, now nothing new syncs.
