Strange iTunes behaviour which no one seems to get, but me! (Track naming)

I have a very annoying issue which no one seems to get, but me!
To give some background info:
- Using latest version of iTunes (this problem has occured in older versions as well)
- Using a 4G Nano (also happened when using a 2G Nano)
- Windows 7 x64 (although also happened when I was running Windows XP)
- All tracks are correctly tagged using: Artists / Track / Album / Track # / Album Artist / CD # fields
- MP3 files are saved in the format of: Artist - Album\track number - Artist - Track.mp3
When I import my albums, the track names appear with the artist names in front of them. However, if i right click on a track and select "get info", then close the window, it then magically corrects itself, and removes the artist name from the track name.
Here's a screenshot to illustrate what I mean:
In the screenhot above, the two highlighed files are files which i've right clicked and chosen "show info" on. As you can see, the track names are now "correct" and don't have the artist name in front of them.
Here is an example of the info on one of the files, to show that they are tagged correctly:
It seems like a minor issue, but it's actually pretty annoying, as if I load up an album on my Nano, the track listing will look something like:
Florence + The Machi...
Florence + The Machi...
Florence + The Machi...
Florence + The Machi...
Florence + The Machi...
Florence + The Machi...
Florence + The Machi...
And seeing as it doesn't scroll those titles... it's pretty useless!
One way i've found to "fix" the issue, is to select my entire library, choose "show info" then change something minor (e.g. volume adjust). Then, once it goes through my library, it fixes all the track names as above. I don't really want to have to do this every time I import new albums into my library though, as this takes ages!
I'd appreciate it if anyone could maybe explain what's going on and if there is a proper fix?
Thanks!

When updating my iphone with new software it came up on screen with the cable and itunes sign (which is what I should get when restoration has been completed) yet it is still saying restore. I have tried 3 times and the screen won't change. HELP!

If the sign does not go away it has not completed the restore. So you are incorrect when you say it "keeps completing the restore" if that message is still displayed.
Do you get an error message? If so, what is the error number?

  • Very strange itunes behaviour: please help!

OK. So I downloaded uniblue's 'speed up my PC' software which is highly unadvisable because quite apart from it having little noticeable effect, it appears to have really screwed up my itunes, albeit more in an annoying way than a disastrous way.
On attempting to open itunes I am presented with a small box (Windows Xp SP3 by the way.) which says "Importing 'iTunes Music Library.xml'..." This takes about 3-4 minutes. Then the box changes to "Organizing Files" and appears to scan through my music very quickly - about 5-10 seconds.
Then I get an error message reading: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your itunes library and renamed this file to 'iTunes Library (Damaged).itl'
So I press 'OK' (the only option) and itunes opens, and begins "creating artwork thumbnails" and "Determining gapless playback information" each of which takes aprox. 5 minutes.
While this is going on another error message appears: "The itunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-1450)." Again 'OK' is the only option. This message sometimes appears multiple times.
At this point I closed down itunes, uninstalled it, defragged my hard drive, deleted the itunes file and replaced it with a backup I keep on my external hard drive, then reinstalled it.
Hallelujah! It worked fine again, opening without any problems, with all my playlist and playcount data safe. I thought I had solved my problem. However, after the third reboot itunes reverted to its old behaviour (starting from paragraph two) again. I have now been through this entire cycle about three times and am getting very fed up.
If anyone could explain to me why this is happening and how to fix it - I wouldn't be able to thankyou enough.

Praise be to Lord above! I have fixed it! And because I'm a nice guy and wouldn't want anyone else to go through the same frustration - I'm going to tell you how...
It was a problem with the registry that was causing the issue and funny old thing - uniblue's 'Registry Booster' solved the issue. It's ironic that software from the same company was used to solve the problem I know...I had almost decided to uninstall all uniblue products, but decided to run one last scan with registry booster to see what happened....So just to sum up, this is how to solve the above issue:
    1. Re-create/rebuild your library as detailed in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 or replace itunes folder with backup. Delete any corrupted/damaged files.
This alone should solve many issues but if you keep getting repeated corruption problems like I did then the problem seems to be within the REGISTRY.
    2. To solve the registry error - I ran uniblue's 'Registry Booster' programme. I have no idea how to fix the registry manually. Sorry.

  • ITunes - 2 Computers - Can't seem to get it back on the one I want...

I apologize if this has been posted, but couldn't find this exact scenario...
I just purchased an 8GB 3GS. I initially synced it with my laptop (Win 7) at home just to get some basics on it and get it up and running. However, when I took it to work (XP Pro), I synced it up there and did all the work to pick and choose music/videos/photos/apps (since it's only 8GB, had to be more selective and it took awhile). I can't seem to figure out a way to resync it with my home laptop without it first wanting to erase everything I've done at work. I would like my home laptop to be my iTunes "home base", so to speak, but don't want to go through the trouble of re-selecting everything again... spent probably 2 hours doing it and making it all fit. If I have to, that's fine, but wanted to check here for another solution first.
For what it's worth, I use Sugarsync to keep all of our photos, videos, music, and documents synced up across our computers. So I have the exact same files on my work computer as my home laptop.
    TIA,
    Nate

It is - came over from a Droid (was a former 3G user)... forgot how smooth and seamless the iPhone experience was. The Droid was nice, and Android is interesting, but the iPhone is so much simpler and easy. I hacked the heck out of the Droid, and it's so nice to be back on a smooth, "just works" phone.
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • Very Strange iTunes Behaviour???!!!

    Hi All
Wonder if anyone can shed some light on this. I have been a happy itunes/ipod user for many years until this week! iTunes, all of a sudden, now only imports my cd's at about x5 instead of the usual x16, while it imports the mouse pointer moves in a jerky fashion as though all the memory is being used and it also messes with my broadband net connection rendering it useless and I have to reboot my pc to get the net to work again!
I did a fresh install of itunes (latest version) no difference. I checked the cpu usage while the import is in progress - its about 50% used both cpu and RAM. My CD drive is set to DMA and my itunes library that I'm importing to is frequently emptied out to an external HD so the file on the internal HD is small.
The only thing I can think of that I have done recently is set up an itunes store account, but surely that will not cause all these problems?
    Any clues would be appcreciated
    thanks
    Lee

Is it a firmware issue then? I always find things like this puzzling as it was working well last week but this week it isn't????
yeah, although i'm wondering a wee bit more about video drivers at the moment, based on the mouse/display behavior.
i figure our PCs are pretty much gently altering on a daily basis ... what with security software updates, windows updates, and just general wear and tear. every now and then they slowly move past some threshhold, and the effects are reasonably dramatic, even though the change in the conditions has been slight and incremental.
but enough philosophical musings ... let's try and get her working a bit better.
perhaps before we go the drivers route, let's try some general maintenance and spring cleaning.
download fresh definitions and do some vigorous virus and spyware scans.
now do a disk cleanup, clear your temporary internet files (that's in your Internet options), and run your favorite disk checking utility. if you don't have one, try running a chkdsk:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
now do a disk defrag and reboot.
try doing a reimport of one of the CDs you were getting the grumpy behavior with. does it behave a bit better, or is the import still sluggish, and the mouse still a bit wonky?

    All,

    - What version of iTunes is installed on the computer?

  • Migrating from PPC to Intel. Copied iTunes library manually to default location, but iTunes won't recognize it - seems to work, but no songs visible. Using Lion on Mac Mini Server.

I've never had iTunes fail to recognize a library when I moved it to another location, or restored it to the default location. It always just works. But not this time.
I copied my roughly 30G library into the default location, but iTunes doesn't see it at all.
I have no idea what to try next. Help.

Did you copy everything? Media folders, library files, artwork folders, etc?  Did you put them in the default location of Music/iTunes/iTunes ?
You can also try starting iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to where you did put the library file.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Getting "cannot connect to iTunes store error from one appleID but another works fine

I have 2 apple ID's, a personal one, and one that me and a couple of coworkers share so that we can share apps we purchase.  I cannot log into the shared AppleID from my ipad.  I can from my PC so I know it is not an incorrect password or anything like that.  I get the error "cannot connect to iTunes Store".  Is this because too many of us are logged into the same apple ID at once?  I tried changing the password so that it would kick everyone else off, but even with a new password I get the error.  I am able to login with my personal apple ID just fine, so I know it's not an issue with my wifi or my ipad software (i don't think).  anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

    Hello 66ladybird88,
I understand you are trying to access the iTunes Store on your Windows computer but are getting an alert with the number 0x80092013. There is an article that address this kind of alert and has some great troubleshooting steps for resolution. I understand the alert in the article is slightly different than the one you are getting but I recommend the same steps listed.
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123
    Resolution
The cause for these issues is a program that monitors the Winsock protocol for Windows conflicting with Apple software. These programs usually use a Layered Service Provider (LSP) that can help identify the particular program installed. The programs that monitor this protocol have a variety of purposes, including security software, content filtering, and optimization of network traffic.
    Thanks for reaching out,

For some reason the Apple ID window in iTunes and App Store now seems to suddenly have a character number constraint which prevents me using my 29 character Apple ID. As a result I am unable to enter the final few characters of my Apple ID which I have had for many years. Does anyone know what has caused this?

You need to ask Apple for assistance with getting back into your old ID. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to resolve this issue through the Account Security team, fill out and submit this form.

As long as you are signed into the account which she registered the card with, you will be able to use it. I'm guessing you just don't know which account that is. Logging into all of them would be the only way to find that out. Hope that helps :)
