Strange keychain pop up nonsense

What is keychain, and why do I need it? I never activated keychain (why should I) and yet I get continual pop ups requiring a password that I certainly don't have.  This is actually VERY annoying.  What to do?
OS X v10.9.1
Model identifier iMac 12,1

Were you able to find anything in the related google search result, linked above, that did anything to change the pattern of circular non-logic whereby you get nowhere outside the same path?
A few did appear promising, but then I don't use Mavericks & my antiques look curiously if I bring up the subject of a 'new OS X' since most are at their great last stand. And I can avoid keychain in mine.
Some users did not upgrade to Mavericks, especially if their software in use from other makers did not necessarily find support in the latest OS X version, or there was no clear advantage; and could revert to a clone or bootable copy of their older system, with that version upgrades intact, from a second hard disk drive location. One that would not automatically be seen by the Mavericks installer and also get an upgrade, too.
If you disable iCloud keychain, does that help make the shared access issue go away, or only compound the effect by getting more singular keychain messages as other devices aren't sharing information, then?
I notice some other topic related articles when I search Support (search box) using 'Mavericks keychain issues' for results. Anything new there?
Oh, on a separate note there is this page 'iCloud keychain availability by country' where SMS may not be available there, so it is possible to change or set up the iCloud keychain in the computer and not online (or so I think it says) + It may not help. see article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6020
Hopefully some wizard from cupertino will reply with the insider information, short of revisiting Mt Lion or another earlier city of OS X.
Sorry to not be of much help...
Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT3915 how to turn off keychain pop ups

My computer won't accept any passwords I put into these keychain pop ups. So they constantly pop up and wont go away even if you click cancel 6 or 7 times. Can someone help me to turn them off?!

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, testing after each one, until it's resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
    Step 2
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the iCloud keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
    Step 3
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device.
    Step 4
Open the Keychains folder as in Step 1. There should be a file in that folder with the name "login.keychain". If there is also a file iwith the name "login_renamed_1.keychain", then please do as follows:
    Rename login.keychain to "login-old.keychain".
    Rename login_renamed_1.keychain to "login.keychain".
You can then close the folder.
Delete the login keychain from the keychain list in Keychain Access. Choose Delete References when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
    Select
    File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file now named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.
Run Keychain First Aid again. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Strange Things Popping Up

Strange stuff is popping up when my students start GB. Before GB even starts, I must click on several things to make it work such as Native Instruments not found (click OK), then Izotope (authorize then hit cancel) then back to NI one last time. This is really driving me nuts. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

  • Strange Keychain Error:

Okay, so I just got this weird error, or suggestions, or whatever it is:
    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30104497&l=dcbb8&id=138900238
Whenever I open Safari I get a window saying "A Keychain cannot be found to store 'Safari'" I have the option to Cancel (which I have been doing) and Reset To Defaults. I got this error after installing Adobe Flash 10 from the F.E.A.R. 2 website (I went to the website and it said I need to install Flash 10, which I thought was weird because I thought my Adobe CS4 collection stayed up-to-date, but did it anyways.) Right after install, I was at the website for about five minutes, then I opened up Google to goto Blogger, and I got that error window. It scared the **** out of me, cause last time I had an error with my keychain, it was a trojan, so I closed Safari (but I had to force quite because I had the Rainbow Wheel of Death.) I haven't opened Safari since, because I am afraid of what might happen (I don't want to have to wait for Time Machine to fix my computer again. I have bad luck with finding all the mac viruses or things that screw mac up real good.)
Anyway, I am wondering what happened, and what I should do.
I am using the most up-to-date Safari 3.2.1 on a intel 24" mac running Mac OS 10.5.6. I have Little Snitch and nothing popped up. I have opened Safari a few more times, but every time I navigate from Google.com, I get that window, even if I refresh the window. I have Force-Quit every time, just to be safe (Except the first time, I hit Cancel)
When I hit the little "?" Mac Help opens and it talks about locking and unlocking my Keychain for editing...
What should I do? Hit Reset to Defaults? Or just reformat my Mac again? I have not had any other problems for 4 months now (that was the last time I had an issue and I reformatted my mac.)

Same error here. But I suspect Adobe Flash Player 10 is responsible for the error message.
Once I installed it, I started getting those annoying popups. And I was trying to visit Adobe's kular.com, which obviously prompted (obliged) to upgrade the plug-in.
I followed the steps in the Article: TS1530 that you refer, and disabled the AutoFill options in Safari's preferences. But after checking the keychain through Keychain Access, it found no errors.
Let's check if anyone else is getting this error after Flash Player 10 upgrade.

  • Strange keychain behavior

Keychain has been acting strangely today. When I click on "Show password", I get a screen that says "Keychain Access wants to use the "new-system" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
When I enter the keychain password, I get a second screen that says "Keychain Access wants to use your confidential information stored in "xxx.com" in your keychain. To allow this, enter the "new-system" keychain password."
Why do I have to enter the keychain password twice? Note: I made a new keychain named "new-system", since I don't remember the password for the "System" keychain.

Oops, I inadvertently entered this question twice, so I'm marking my older one as solved.

  • Keychain pop-up window.

Various programs keeps telling me that they want to use a keychain called «CCC». As far as I know, I don't have a keychain at all, and certainly not one called «CCC». The pop-up window tells me to type in a password, I've tried every password I've ever had in my life, but nothing works! The pop-up window used to disappear if I clicked cancel, but now, as Google Chrome is asking me, it just keeps poping up
    Can anyone pleas help me?

    Hello joyngve,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your keychain.  I have a couple of suggestions to help with this.
First, I recommend using the Keychain First Aid as described in this article (the article refers to OS X 10.6, but the steps should work for Mavericks as well):

If the issue persists, I recommend resetting your keychain using the steps in this article:

If you continue to see the same issue, try changing your login password for your user account:

  • Automount of SD card & USB external HDD with strange KDE pop up msg

Today I reviewed lots of threads posted over the last year and some bug reports too about this issue, but it's happening for me too. Both SD card and USB external HDD have autodetectable filesystems on them because I can mount them by hand with "mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt" and "mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt". But it would be nice if I didn't have to do that.
Although I didn't notice which explicit install that I did pulled them in as dependencies, I do have udisk2 and polkit installed. Also installed udiskie as a wrapper. I've been mounting these volumes by hand before now because I feel like I'm still learning the ropes of The Arch Way and guessed (apparently incorrectly) that mounting volumes by hand was just part of "The Arch Way". But based on some threads here and some bug reports, I guess this used to work in Arch but has been causing some problems for some people lately when they upgrade. I just installed Arch for the first time (using the 2015.02.01 iso image), so I don't have any background to go on.
So what is The Arch Way for automounting external drives? I've skimmed the wiki article for this and because "Development of udisks has ceased in favor of udisks2." it seems that udisks2 is preferred. But it got installed and the daemon is running for me. The user is in the wheel group. dbus is running (though like one person who filed a bug, I too have several instances of dbus in my ps -aux output and I'm not sure if that is as it should be or not). I've done no special configuration ("not wittingly" anyway; I promise, my name is not James Clapper) that I think would have affected this.
So for a newb with no special preference, how should automounting be configured in a new Arch system? In other words, what should be my first steps in trying to solve this problem for myself? I know there are lots of different ways to skin this cat, but I'd prefer the simplest and most elegant solution that does not depend on KDE or GNOME or other unnecessary tools. I've just (with this Arch system I just installed) begun using i3wm and I think I'll be sticking with it. That said, however, it's clear that I inadvertently/unwittingly managed to get some elements of KDE into memory as the following http://gamonics.org/img/2015-02-26-1731 … _scrot.png shows. This popped up both times, when I plugged in my SD card and when I plugged in my USB drive. Any thoughts on what's going on here? I did install okular explicitly because I think it's one of the best PDF viewers, but I don't understand why KDE is reporting anything to me when I'm running i3 and insert an SD card or a USB disk.
And in the terminal, I get this output (apparently from udiskie):
[root@archippocrates archie]# Failed to show notification: The connection is closed
    not adding /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/mmcblk0: unhandled device
    mounted /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/mmcblk0p1 on /media/3532-3338
Failed to show notification: The connection is closed
Although the volume does get mounted automatically.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

I personally can't answer the question of "simplest and most elegant" way of mounting devices. It all depends on what you want. If you expect more exotic functionality, say correct unmounting of devices if they were disconnected during a sleep cycle, there's probably no way around udisks2. For that you get a complex piece of software prone to... unexpected behaviour. Mind you some of it is related to front-ends like GVFS.
As to your KDE issues, last I checked mount handling was disabled by default there, but you can control it manually (see man kcmshell4). Though I haven't followed up on KDE 5 developments. If going with udisks2, I'd recommend using devmon from the udevil package as a front-end (more details on the wiki udisks page).
PS: multiple dbus instances are expected, check the user names and specified arguments in the ps output.
    edit: grammar. :X

  • Strange SSIDs popping up- AE

Have Airport Extreme environment - home
MacBook (OS X 10.4.11) has changing SSIDs pop up in list periodically - wood, WEST 6018, . . .)
sometimes my main AE net drops and has difficulty reconnecting.
    the nets change sometimes
I have cleaned the preferred networks down to my main AE but I still see the other nets.
Doubt my neighbor is spohisticated to run multiple and episodic nets - he has a linksys that pops up once in a while.
Is there software I can clean up here? some HARD refresh on my airport card in the MacBook?
BTW - Note - none of this happens on my MacBook Pro running 10.5.3.
    Thanks
    Benn

Well apparently your MacBook has better sensitivity than your MacBook Pro. The AirPort menu shows all detected networks. There isn't any way to filter or limit the list.

  • Strange extension pop-up window

I have the extension Safari Restore installed.
While surfing the web, a Safari pop up window came up which read:
"Allow this website to use space on your disk?
The website "safari-extension://com.sweetproductions.safarirestore-3cn4ukerbr" is requesting 100MB of disk space to store "SRDB" as a database on your disk. Don't Allow   Allow"
I didn't allow it, but what could this be? It doesn't seem good!
You can see an image of it here:

The extension wants to store data. Only its developer could tell you why.

  • Keychain pop-ups

I just did a clean install of 10.4.1 and now everytime I do something in Safari (and occassionally Mail) I get the message "Safari has been updated. Do you want to allow this new version to access the same keychain as the previous version?" I check "keep the same." I've tried keychain First Aid but it still keeps happening. How to I get rid of these annoying messages?

Here's a document on keychains that might be informative.

Even though you are not getting asked for your "login" keychain, it seems migrating your old keychain is the problem. Depending on how you transfered your files, the old keychain could be listed for a different username, password or both. You can try to synchronize the keychain as mentioned in the above link, or if you don't care about it, just delete the login keychain and start over.
