Strange locations pinned on iPhone map

How does one get pinned location sites on their (iPhone) map app when they weren't there and didn't drop a pin to mark? In addition was like 6 times at one location in a day , according to the date given.

Hello Mesmereyes,
Pins can be dropped on the map (in the Maps app) by touching and holding on the screen. A pin can be dropped at any location at any time, regardless of your current location.
Manually mark a location. Touch and hold the map until the dropped pin appears.

  • In iPhoto '11, how do I manually move a locations pin?

I'm trying to add locations to some older photos that I've recently scanned and added to my iPhoto '11 library.
While I can successfully add a general location to each photo, what I cannot do is "select, drag, and drop your pin into the proper location" as described in step 5 of this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2550
If I select a photo and attempt to move its location pin on the map at the botton of the Info panel, nothing happens. The pin moves, but it doesn't "stick" in its new location. If I leave the photo and then return, the location remains in the original general location.
    Any ideas?
    Josh

Update: Still can't get it working, I move a pin, and next time I go to that photo it's returned to the original place. Places function is basically worthless.
    Another glitch I noticed:
    - iphoto adds names from your address book to faces - great.
    - If the contact it's adding from your addressbook has changed their email address, the OLD email address shows up!!!!
    - e.g. I added "Tommy McTomson" to a photo months ago; I then changed Tommy's email address from yahoo.com email to say hotmail.com
    - Any future pictures of Tommy I add show his OLD yahoo email address under his name in "Faces". Whci isn't really a hassle cos I don't see how you can use the email address from that biut of the sscreen in iphoto, but come on dudes, it's really slack................
Also, you can't see an iphone when it's connected when in iphoto 11 full screen mode. But I'll check this & clarify later (not on mac at the moment).
Really not impressed with iPhoto '11, especially after reading all the negative stuff on forums across the net.

  • IPhone 3GS - "LOCATION PINNING" PROBLEM ON THE MAP

Hi everyone. I'm currently using an iPhone 3GS running on IOS4 and unfortunately facing "location pinning problem" on the map. Even though, "location services" feature is on and also "active" for photos, I quite often need to reboot my device right after I took a picture(s) in order to see the "location pin(s)" on the map.
But sometimes I don't need to do so, because it somehow captures the place the picture's taken and puts a pin on the map right away.
Do you have any ideas about where that problem might be stemming from? Appreciate your help on this issue. Thx a lot in advance...

so did you happen to resolve that "pinpointing" issue?

  • Can the iphone maps display more than one pin at the same time?

For example, on a recent trip to New York I preloaded bookmarks of all the places I wanted to visit into the iPhone Maps. I then wanted to see where they all were in relation to one another so I could decide which one to go to next (MOMA, Guggenheim, Metroplitan Museum of Art for example). Is it possible to have the map display them all at the same time?

    DaVBMan wrote:
Are you sure about that Andrew. I see no option to toggle on all my bookmarked pins. I can pick one to show and it shows up. But if I pick another, the previous one will go away. Only doing a search for stuff in an area will Google Maps show multiple pins, but I see no way of making all your saved bookmarks show up.
Did it on mine just now but I also did a very small location here in Sacramento. Dropped a pin in 1 city, Bookmarked, Dropped a few others and bookmarked at least 6 cities in the general Sacramento area, zoomed out just a bit and saw 6 red Pins. Which are all bookmarked.
If I could snap a photo of my screen I would post it.

  • My store location is wrong on iphone maps, what now?

I do not own any apple products. I am here because I get about 3 calls per day, from people that do, saying that their iPhone took them to the wrong location. How can I fix this problem for them? How can I tell apple my correct address or fix whatever problem is occurring?

Paranoia perhaps, I just find it strange that the only electronic map that has my location wrong is the one that allows users "report a problem", setting the location in a different place as the address, and doesn't run off the basic address=location theory that company's like Google use.
My address is "public knowledge" but most people memorize my company name not the address, and if they use apple maps they will not find me.
I'm just here hoping that someone knows about an easy over ride method that owners of the company who's store location is in question can utilize to help iPhone direct its users to where they are trying to go.
I am having a terribly hard time figuring out how to "take this up with apple" All I can find is a ton of other people with this problem and the only solution being to "report a problem" on the maps, but this doesn't seem to work.
My real question is how do you get a hold Apple to take this up with them. Because Contact Us and Support has only lead me here.

  • IPhone maps favourites does not open the location

    Hello ,
I have problem with iPhone maps i hope some one can help me.
I have saved many places at favourites under different names. Now when I select one of these location the maps does not go to location , its like only searching by the saved name as its the location name.
Is there a way to get them back ?
or I can get the coordinates from these favourite ?
    thank you

    Sinuosalice,
If you open an email with an attachment in Mail, there should be a rectangle with a dashed line border and an arrow pointing down. This means you can download it - to do that, just tap it.
Instead, if it's already downloaded, there will be a bar on the screen with the name of the attachment, icon for the type of file, size, and an arrow (>) on the right. Tap the bar to open the attachment.
    Hope this helps,
    O.C.

  • Safari 8 hover does not work over google map location pins

    OS X 10.10.1,   Safari 8,  Java 8-25
I have always had little odd things not work when using safari on a large % of websites I visit,  the latest issues are
no response when hovering over google map location pins, travel site calendars not opening or responding to mouse, drag and drop
show the item being dragged several inches away from the actual pointer, some links don't respond, missing items
or odd layout with print or pop ups going off the screen on some website pages, zooming in and out does not help. I have none
of these issues when using Firefox or Chrome. Been using Safari for 4 years now.

Have you tried a PRAM and an SMC reset? They're longshots, but don't take long to try.
    PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Have you run Apple Diagnostics from the disc(s) that shipped with the computer?
Since the problem occurs in all browsers, it still sounds like a video hardware or video RAM or maybe a software issue having to do with layers and rendering.
The map layers aren't getting rendered, or if rendered, aren't getting displayed.
Do you have any browser add-ins? Pop-up blockers?
Since you have two video chipsets, it's possible that might be related to the issue.
This non-Apple website talks about switching between chipsets on the various MacBook models so equipped, and points to a free 'donationware' program for the menubar that lets you easily switch between chipsets:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/macbook-pro-unibody-faq/macboo k-pro-unibody-switching-between-graphics-processors.html
Trying to think of other software that might help pinpoint the problem, does the iPhoto Slideshow 'Shatter' template work? Working properly, it 'shatters' images into several color layers and rotates them in and out to build and deconstruct photos.

  • Location search problem with iPhone map

I am posting this to see if anybody else have the same problem, and hopeful a solution as well.
The problem is that iPhone map started from a 3ird party software does not use my current location by default. For example, I did a search for pizza in google search. The google app will give me a list of local pizza places in their page. But if I click on show all results, it brings up the map app and displays a few pizza places around the world. But shouldn't it give me results in my local area instead? At first, I thought this is a google problem. But I see the same problem later with another voice search app. Have anyone experience this with their iPhone?
Thanks in advance to any insight on this.

    I've already done it.
Do you think this will help?
I doubt that Apple will listen to us. Users with a problem that occurs quite a lot.

  • Iphone maps 3g "transit directions could not be found between these locations"

RE: iphone maps 3g "transit directions could not be found between these locations"
My kitten (Mr. Kitty or Mister K Star), who I had just adopted from the SPCA (died on August 14, 2011) -- which has really put my mental state all over the kitten place (shopping, in a car, in public ...) ... I only had the poor guy for one month and he died of pneumonia.
Me driving in my vehicle has not been the same.
    EXAMPLE:
I was driving in my car yesterday. And then today, I realized I could not get from point A to point B on my iphone G3. Well, I called AT & T and explained my situation. The guy ( AT & T rep ) told me that the "Maps" feature got bought out and it does not work. I thought to myself, "That's F-ing stupid." That will pee off infinite Apple iPhone users.  Expressed, "I have been using Google Maps on my iPhone 3G ever since I got it." Asked, "are any other iPhone customers calling in having the same issues?"
Of course, I'm smart. I took a screen shot ("transit directions could not be found between these locations"). I was too busy to even notice that the icons at the top were on the "Bus" image. Duhhhhh. Only thing I can say, is ... that when I am driving in my car ... I'm multi-tasking. Some where in my drive (adventure), I accidentally touched the "Bus" icon like an idiot.
Therefore, when I tried to get one simple answer to help with my problem when dialing 611, the people (at AT & T) could not even provide a correct one just reading from a manual while on the job.
Luckily, my screen shot helped me out. It was the only way to go online and find this post from 2009. Then I had to re-look at my screen shot to even see that my "Bus" image was highlighted. So I just put the icon back onto the "Car."

    >^.^<
Next time my weird self drives in my car, I need to remember, "Look at the top icons. Make sure it's on the 'car' and not the freakin' 'Bus' icon. LOL!!!!!"
Out of the past years I've had this phone, I can't wait to buy a new G5 this year.

  • IPhone 2.0 - Can't locate me in Google Maps

Has anyone else found that their original iPhones can no longer locate them using triangulation? I click on the "locate" button in Google Maps and it just sits there for minutes and never locates me on the map. Is this a bug, or a problem specific to my phone?

Just been into my local Apple store (by the way I'm in the UK). Google Maps thought i was just off the coast of Alaska, whereas down the road in Starbucks it thought I was in a small village in Germany
Demo'd it to one of the guys in the shop on my phone, a store demo phone & his own phone.... all gave the same result!
Seeing a Genius tomorrow so if I learn anything I'll post here.
Think what i'll learn is "erm, that's not right, think there's a generic fault"

  • Iphone maps use cases

Apple's iPhone maps application has some very nice graphics, but I've found it awkward to use at times. I would like to start a constructive discussion of what we, as users, want from the map application. Usually, the best way to start this kind of discussion is with a cooperative brainstorm, inventing little scenarios where we would like the map application to answer a question or solve a problem.
    Here are some examples:
    - I feel lost, where am I in relation to surrounding streets and businesses?
    - I'm in a strange city. How do I get from A to B?
    - Where am I on the path from A to B?
    - I'm in a familiar city, and I want to optimize my travel from A to B. What is the fastest route? What is the shortest route? What is the best way to go if I really like driving on avenue C?
    - I'm trying to get to work, and I'm using surface streets to bypass stop and go traffic on the freeways. Where am I in relation to traffic jams on nearby freeways?
    - Where is the nearest XYZ (coffee, sushi, hospital, police)?
    - I'm in a traffic jam. How long will it last?
    - My car broke down and I'm in the middle of nowhere. What can I do?
    - I've really enjoyed my time here. How can I remember where this is and what was so special about it?
    - I'm feeling a bit lonely. I wonder if any of my friends are close by and interested in joining me?
    - I'm going to be late picking up the kids at soccer practice. Is one of the other soccer parents close enough to pick them up today?

Many of the points you mention are addressed.
    Carl Sutton wrote:

Find me gives you an approximate location, comparing that to the street signs, and/or satellite view.
    - I'm in a strange city. How do I get from A to B?
You can look up directions, either from two addresses or from the current location to an address.
    - Where am I on the path from A to B?
If you have a route, you can view it turn by turn. Find me combined with a route being displayed can also be used to location yourself.
    - I'm in a familiar city, and I want to optimize my travel from A to B. What is the fastest route? What is the shortest route? What is the best way to go if I really like driving on avenue C?
The iPhone map application doesn't support moving the route. However, it will route around traffic data when available. When I was traveling to MacWorld from somewhere north of Sacramento, when I re-entered my route it adjusted it based on traffic.
    - I'm trying to get to work, and I'm using surface streets to bypass stop and go traffic on the freeways. Where am I in relation to traffic jams on nearby freeways?
Traffic does show sections of traffic that are stopped. The traffic data is provided to Google from a variety of private and public entities. Google then provides the map data. If your area doesn't usually show anything with the traffic button, you can look at San Francisco.
    - Where is the nearest XYZ (coffee, sushi, hospital, police)?
In the search box put in coffee and it will look for business/places with coffee in their name centered on the current view. You can also put coffee and a zip/postal code or city,state/province to search. That was the example shown in the "Calamari" commercial that aired before the iPhone was released.
    - I'm in a traffic jam. How long will it last?
It may not show how long, but can show the general area
    - My car broke down and I'm in the middle of nowhere. What can I do?
Find me will give a general location, and from that you can call a tow company.
    - I've really enjoyed my time here. How can I remember where this is and what was so special about it?
Drop a pin, and then you can enter in the name of the bookmark. In the name field you can include keywords to remind you of the experience. It doesn't link to pictures directly. You could also create a contact for that address, and apply the picture to the contact.
    - I'm feeling a bit lonely. I wonder if any of my friends are close by and interested in joining me?
    - I'm going to be late picking up the kids at soccer practice. Is one of the other soccer parents close enough to pick them up today?
There are some potential privacy concerns with such a feature. What if your wife found out your present to her was from Tiffany's because you spent 3 hours there? What if you actually waiting to pick something up for your boss or coworker? Sure, it might be the material for a sitcom, but in real life wouldn't be so funny.
The best place to submit ideas like these would be:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
As always, my opinions are my own.
    Hope this helps,

I misplaced my iPhone and used Find My iPhone to locate it. The map showed my home and the apparent location of the iPhone which was five miles south of my home in a heavily wooded area. It turns out that was an incorrect location as I eventually found my iPhone in my office three miles in the other direction. Can anyone provide m with an explanation for the discrepancy and inaccuracy?

  • IPhoto '11 location pin not working

I just geotagged a bunch of photos in iPhoto 9.2.1 by adding a new location or moving the pin for existing locations in the small locations map in the Information pane of a picture / selection of pictures. After reviewing my changes I noticed that none of them got saved. I don't get the point of being able to move the location pin if the information I am providing (the correct location) does not get stored.
What am I doing wrong or why is this so user unfriendly?
I don't want to brag, but I wrote exactly this feature for a flickr competitor and it works like a charm. Uhmm... I mean it is the 21st century and geo metadata has been around for a while...

I actually have version 9.3 - would I still need this?
I may have solved the problem on my own... tried 'Repair Library' first, then 'Rebuild Library'.
It's importing the library right now but seems to be doing it with Duplicates.... I'm sure I will run out of disk space.  Any ideas?
