Strange Login problem

Hello.
I was wondering if anybody had any idea of what is wrong with my Macbook.
I shut it down yesterday and came back to it later to turn it on, it loaded up as far as the login page, I inputted my password, it accepted and then sort of hung on the wallpaper for a few seconds, then it hung on a blue screen for even longer, then just took me back to the login page.
My password was Definitely inputted correctly.
I have also tried the 'fsck -f' thing when booting up. It said there was nothing wrong to report.
I did notice something when I tried running Disk Utility from my install disc. I chose my HD and clicked on Repair. As it was running through it's process it said there was an error in 'header' or something, which it then fixed. I don't know the relevance of this because i'm not that technically minded.
I also ran Verify just in case.
I restarted and nothing had changed. Login still hung at that blue screen for a few seconds, then took me back to login page.
One of the major problems is I have a whole terms worth of work on it that I'm worried I'm going to lose. I have Time Machine Running but I don;t know if i have to restore my HD and install leopard again, would it continue to hold all the files that are already backed up or would I have to set it all up again?
I know this is two problems but I am worried about losing ALL my work and figured if the login issue could be resolved, I could save my work.
Thanks

Have you tried running Disk Utility while booted from the Install DVD? Try that if you haven't. Time machine won't give you a 'bootable' backup, but if you have to reinstall, you can use it to 'restore' from ...so your data that is there will be brought back into the system.
An SMS and Pram reset might clear things up as well...

  • Strange login problem with Open Directory

    Hi,
    I created a web tool that calls dscl to create users in Open Directory from a bound web server.
    Most of the accounts work fine. A couple do not. The particular account in question could login to machines in one computer group, but not on others, using the login window. But it could login on the command-line via su.
    Now here's the kicker. I deleted the user completely and re-created the user account with the same login name, and assigned it to the same groups as other new accounts that work fine. The problem persists.
    The only thing I've found that indicates a problem is the following from the ldap log:
    Sep 17 10:36:14 poseidon slapd[61]: Entry (uid=<username changed>,cn=users,dc=<redacted>,dc=<redacted>,dc=<redacted>): object class 'posixAccount' requires attribute 'homeDirectory'
    (note the redactions and username were put in by me...paranoia etc)
    I used 'Inspector' in Workgroup Manager and verified that the account does in fact have the required homeDirectory attribute, and the account is not unlike other accounts that work fine, save the username and unique ID.
    I hope this provides enough info for someone to give some guidance...this is certainly a strange problem.
    Thanks ahead of time!

  • Very strange login problem - won't accept known good password

    I have brought an old powerbook G4 back to life, mostly to run old apps that dont run on the current system.
    I did a clean install of Tiger (10.4). It worked fine, but did nto support some security protocols for secure web pages and email access, so i decided to upgrade to 10.5 (Leopard). It did so successfully. so i thought.
    Got to login screen. Correct machine network name.  Correct user ID (me). Put in password.  Long delay, screen "shakes head". This occured many times. Caps lock is not on. Password is correct.
    So, you say" it probably wasnt".  OK, i put in the original 10.5 DVD and rest the password. Tried again. No go, same problem.
    Called Apple. They have no clue.  said re-install 10.5, something in login corrupted.  So i did.  Booted up - c'est le meme chose.
    Can anyone think of what's up?  and in fact, since it was set ( in tiger) automatically boot, why its even asking for login credentials?  I suspect the two may be linked.
    TIA,
    Grant

    OK, update ( sometimes people being late is ok).
    That worked, mostly.
    I ran the filesystem check, looked ok.
    Next command i do not understand, btu it did the trick.
    removed .applesetupdone and checked it was gone.
    rebooted
    made new admin account
    logged in
    old admin account was GONE, but home directory was there
    recreated and linked to home directory.
    reboot
    seems ok
    ran software update - claimed i dont have privileges to save the file - -seems to be updating anyway, we shall see.  More oddity.
    Will reboot next week. Gotta go.
    Many thanks, btu this is a work-in-progress
    OOOPS!!! Kernel panic while updating. Leaving dodge. Speak next week.

  • Sourcing 7.0 - Strange Login Behaviour for enterprise user

    Hello
    We have installed SAP Sourcing 7.0 and created one tenant and after that everything was running fine. I have now created another tenant. After this there is a strange login behaviour for enterprise user
    When I go to the ...../fsbuyer/portal URL, it given me a login screen. When I try to login with enterprise user and password as specified in the context, it does not let me login even with a correct password. The error is "User Authentication Failed"
    I just happened to try NW CE Administrator Login, after this the error changed to "Entry does not exist". Here I gave enterprise user and password and it logged into the system. So I now have to login two times once with NW UME User and other with enterprise user to access the setup page.
    However this is the problem only for enteprise user and not for other user accounts that I created. I checked in NW UME, the enterprise user does not exist there. However I can see that other users that I created using "Internal User Accounts" are also created in NW UME.
    Anyone faced this behaviour earlier?
    This also brings out a very interesting point. In Multi-Tenant Setup when using NW UME does this mean that two tenants cannot share the same user account. Is that so?
    Regards,
    Shubham

    Hi Vikram,
    Thanks a ton for your reponse.
    I would like to understand your solution regarding creating another cluster.
    Does this mean I need to install another CE Instance and install sourcing on the same.
    OR
    I have to create an Add-In instance for the current CE Server and define the Host Name of Add-In Instance in the new cluster
    Also in this cluster, which context should I select, System Context or Existing Tenant Context or New Tenant Context.
    Regards,
    Shubham

  • Login problems after update to Safari 3.1

    Hi, ever since I updated to Safari 3.1.0 I have been unable to login to any site that requests a login. I have checked if it has a problem with secure websites and I can load a secure page ie: https://www.verisign.com with no problem, also seems happy if I used any site that had been logged into before. The later no longer work after I cleared the cache and cookies to try to fix the login problem. I have run all updates so am on 3.1.2 with no change. Strange thing is, I can get to any site with login on Firefox and camino with out problems. Any ideas to help fix this as it's driving me nuts.

    I have the same problem. I enter username and password and I get dumped back to the login screen. It isn't the username/password error screen, it is the original login screen.
    I've reset/trashed everything I can think of but that hasn't helped.
    Anyone know where I can get a 3.0 version?

  • Strange wifi problem on a brand-new MacBook Pro

    Hey there, I'm new here. Desperation has got the better of me, and I hope I can get some advice.
    So, last sunday I bought a brand new 13" MacBookPro with 2.8g i7 processor and 10.7.2 OS (I can't update to 10.7.4 because System Update tells me the download has been tampered with or corrupted after I waited 2 hours for it to finish, but I'm trying a direct download from the website). Here's the exact product: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MD314LL-13-3-Inch-VERSION/dp/B005CWIZ4O/ref= sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340301247&sr=8-5&keywords=macbook+pro+13
    Everything is all perfect except for a strange wifi problem. Note that the wifi does not turn-on or off, it doesn't disconnect after 'sleep', it doesn't get less speed, it doesn't constantly leave a preferred connection (once I chose my home wifi it always connects to it no problem). The wifi bar is always full. What is wrong is that the internet is kinda 'glitchy'. The best metaphor I can think of is that it's like a car that has to be pushed down the road before the engine can start. Please, bear with me because this is kinda hard to explain and I'm not good at tech lingos.
    One of the symptoms is browsing can get really slow and inconsistent, almost as if the wifi gets turned off in the middle of browsing. For example: if I look something up on Google and then open 5 new tabs, probably only 2 or 3 of those tabs will eventually load while the other two will not get past the long 'http:.......google.....etc etc' address and will eventually show one of those 'error loading page because there's no Internet connection' notice. This happens a lot. Sometimes I have to refresh/retry loading a page a couple of times before it finally loads, then usually everything will get back to normal and I will be able to open multiple tabs with no problem, but in a couple of minutes I would try to open another site and the problem will start again.
    So I tried to see how it does with downloading using iGetter. Fortunately I also have a Macbook (white-plastic casing one) and my brother has an old 2006 MacbookPro so I can compare. With those two older Apples iGetter starts receiving data in less than 8 seconds after I click Start, while my brand-new Macbook Pro can take up to 15-20 seconds, sometimes it doesn't even start at all and I have to re-click the start button. But once the download actually starts (on my new MacBook Pro), it downloads like normal, it doesn't stop and the speed is also as good as I can get. Strange huh? Hence, like a car that has to be pushed before the engine starts.
    I also tried 'speed testing' from a website with all 3 laptops. On my old MacBook and my brother's MacBook pro, once I click 'begin test' it takes only a couple of seconds of 'ping' before the download/upload speed measurements start, but with my new MacBook Pro (just like with iGetter) it takes up to almost a minute before the measurements start, sometimes it won't start at all and I have to re-start the test.
    Well, thanks for reading. And hope you can help me shed some light into this. Because it is really preventing me from really enjoying my new MacBook Pro. And if this is most likely a hardware problem, I'd better get back to the store and try to get it replace or something while it's only been 5 days. *cheers*

    Hey guys.. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I bought the MacBook in Indonesia where there are no such thing as an AppleCare. The only option is to leave the Apple product to one of the 'Authorized Apple care centre' and have whoever do whatever to it without guarantee of success. As for returning it and getting a brand new one, I also don't know if there is such a deal here, but that's actually a good idea, will try to go to the store tomorrow. Although, I'm worried that the problem might be with OSX Lion or something and getting a new one won't help.
    mark75090, I've tried resetting the router when I first noticed te problem, didn't work though. I've checked my new MacBook's wi-fi (option+click wifi bar) and it says 'PHY Mode: 802.11g', so does my MacBook and the old MacBook Pro. I don't know what those mean though, and I don't know whether or not my router is an N., can you tell me more please.. I have tried with the other two turned off, and only the new MacBook using the wi-fi but the problem persists. I have also tried connecting directly to the router, but as I described, the problem is too subtle for me to notice the difference.
    Also, if I create a brand new Wi-Fi connection in network preferences and connect to my router through the new Wi-Fi profile, the problem seems to be gone for an hour or so, then it always comes back though. I have also just finally installed 10.7.4, but it doesn't help either.

  • Oracle 10g express edition browser login problem

    Hi
    I installed oracle 10g express edition and after installing successfully logged in browser , unlocked hr login and also created one form then I shutdown the database and rebooted my pc and since then when I try to login to "go to Database Home page" after starting database , I get a cookie 127.0.0.1 with username and password, First of all I am not sure what username/password it is expecting, I believe it requires my Windows XP username and password , I tried to enter couple of times my pc login username which has administrator privileges, I also checked it has ora_dba group but after entering pc username , password browser opens saying "unauthorized". I created another os user and tried with that still same. I tried entering oracle password "SYSTEM" and password for it but still could not login, I tried HR username password still nothing.
    I tried disabling firewall but still same issue. I tried to re-install two time but still same .
    Start database dos prompt does show all the process are started successfully .
    I also did ping for 127.0.0.1 and it does ping.
    I tried everything what I knew.
    Can anyone please help me ..to resolve this issue .

    Hi
    This is how I resolved the browser login problem .
    I checked the listener log
    C:\OracleXE\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\log
    And found the error
    TNS-12542: TNS:address already in use
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00512: Address already in use
    I have another version for oracle installed on my pc .
    I ended both the oracle process (Oracle.exe) through the Task Manager
    Then manually started “OracleServiceXe” service through Component Services
    Control Panel – Performance & Maintenance – Administrative – Component Services
    Then did following
    Programs – Oracle Database10g ExpressEdition – Start Database
    Programs – Oracle Databse10g ExpressEdition – Go to Database Homepage –
    Enter username SYSTEM
    Enter password xxxxxx … whatever given at the time of installing.
    And I did successfully login to the browser .
    Hope this will help to those of you who have run into similar problem which I faced
    Good Luck .

  • Very Strange Internet Problems

    I own a MacBook Pro 15.4 Inch that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently upgraded to Leopard and have all the latest updates. I am from the US, and when I am home my internet works fine. However, I am on travel to Seoul, South Korea right now and am having a very strange internet problem.
    As far as I can tell, the URLs that I type in to my browser are, sparodially, not translated correctly into the webpages that they are supposed to represent. This problem is probably effective 75% of the time, and the rest of the time my internet works roughly correctly. For instance, when I enter http://www.google.com, instead of being taken to the Google homepage, I am taking to the homepage of Jammin Beats DJ Service, an obscure website about a company in northern Pennsylvania. The actual URL of this website is http://www.jamminbeats.com, but when my internet is malfunctioning, 'jamminbeats' is for all intensive purposes replaced by 'google' (that is, it applies not only to the main page, but to sub pages, so "http://www.google.com/weddings" takes you to "http://www.jamminbeats.com/weddings" and etc). For most other webpages, one of two things happens. Either I am taken to the correct page but it is displayed without any images or frames (just the html text and links), or I am taken to a blank page with the header "Under Construction", which I assume is the default for a page that doesn't exist. This is why it seems as though the URLs are simply being interpretted erroneously.
    This problem occurs when connecting both to the wireless and the wired internet at my hotel, and it occurs on both Safari and Firefox, so it is not a connection-specific or browser-specific problem. It may be a problem with the hotel's internet, and as of yet I have not had a chance to test the computer at another location. However, a colleague using an IBM computer has had no problems, and I am currently on a Samsung machine in the business center of the hotel and it is working correctly as well. I have searched extensively online for a similar problem but have come up empty handed, and more than anything, I am confused about what might be causing this problem. The strangest thing is that a fraction of the time, the internet functions normally, but it is usually roughly 15 minutes out of every hour, and eventually I am inevitably taken back to Jammin Beats.
    I am a computer science graduate but I still have no idea what would cause this problem. At first I thought it might be a hacker, but if it is, he or she has been at it consistently for 3 days now, and only seems to be targeting my computer. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated, as I have been forced to resort to the hotel's business center for checking email, doing work, etc. Thanks in advance.

    I did consider that, as I was in Beijing last week and there are a number of censored sites. However, in Korea I have had problems with very basic sites like facebook, wall street journal, google, yahoo, Korean google, my hotel's webpage, etc. Further, I have successfully gotten all of these sites to load seemingly at random, and can access them without problems on other computers. The only disconnect seems to be between my MBP and the internet, not between Korean internet and the web. I have toyed around with the network settings, and although sometimes after switching from "Automatic" to a fixed connection I get some sites to work, it usually only lasts a short time and eventually the same sites stop working. I reset my cache regularly to make sure I'm not getting sent to cached sites, but this also doesn't help. Further, my Apple Mail, Skype and AIM accounts jump between being connected and disconnected randomly as well. Again, this is isolated to my own computer, which is why I'm so confused.

  • Web Center app with ADF Security - login problem

    I have a custome Oracle Web Center app.
    I have a page.html with an embedded login form posting to j_security_check. I've configured the ADF security policies to redirect to a JSPX on successful login.
    When I try the correct username/password, I get redirected not to the page I defined in ADF, but to the root page http://127.0.0.1:7101/MyApp-ViewController-context-root/
    and i get
    Error 403--Forbidden
    I've checked the weblogic.xml as per http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2009/12/solving-error-403-forbidden-in-adf.html, all the required entries are there.
    This works fine if i use a Login link with
    destination="#{'/adfAuthentication?login=true&amp;end_url=/faces/postLogin.jspx'} "
    which redirects to the default login.html and then to the right page. I've copied the form from the default login.html into my master HTML page.
    Hope my question is clear. Any suggestions why it is going to the wrong URL after login.
    Is there anything specific I should see in the jazn-data.xml or web.xml regarding the post-login URL since i cant see that in either.
    P.S. Have been advised to try here when I originally asked this in the WebCenter forum. Web Center app ADF Security - login problem
    Edited by: new_to_webcenter on 18-Jan-2011 05:25

    Thanks for your response Frank.
    The web.xml has
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>adfAuthentication</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/adfAuthentication</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint>
    <role-name>valid-users</role-name>
    </auth-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>FORM</auth-method>
    <form-login-config>
    <form-login-page>/login.html</form-login-page>
    <form-error-page>/error.html</form-error-page>
    </form-login-config>
    </login-config>
    When configuring ADF Security via JDev , I chose "Redirect upon successful authentication" to the Welcome Page
    "/faces/postLogin.jspx"
    this then adds into web.xml
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>adfAuthentication</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.adf.share.security.authentication.AuthenticationServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>success_url</param-name>
    <param-value>/faces/postLogin.jspx</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    So the sequence which works is:
    Login via the '/adfAuthentication?login=true&end_url=/faces/postLogin.jspx' and this redirects to login.html (OOTB form which posts to j_security_check) and then to the postLogin.jspx
    I'm trying to do away with a Login link, and trying the simple login form embedded in my page alongwith other content.
    So should the form be posting to j_security_check directly or to the adfAuthentication ?

    Strange email problem; it started only loading unread emails, but from 3 months ago. It is now loading new emails too, but no emails in the past month, read or unread. It's gmail, set up through the phone, I've restarted restored and updated firmware, deleted the account, anything I could think of, but it's just not accurately downloading the most recent emails.

    The answer is very simple: You were not the original owner of the phone. Target sold you a phone that had been returned. You can verify the date of the original sale here: Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage. I suspect you will find that the warranty expiration date is not one year from the date that you bought it.

  • IMac login problems on any 10.6 update

    I have a 24" iMac that is 2 years old. After using snow leopard on my husband's new macbook I decided to get it for my imac. The base install of 10.6 works fine but of course it immediately wants to be updated to a new release. If I update it past the base install from the CD I get login problems.
    What happens is that the desktop appears and the finder menu is at the top but the date and network status etc - everything from the top right of the menu bar is missing. The computer will not move forward. No amount of waiting or button pushing will improve the situation.
    Sometimes I could log in to another account but then it would start happening on that acocunt too. I made myself a new account and it started happening on that too. Every time if I did a re-install of the base 10.6 from the CD it went back to working fine. I would have to say no to every update of 10.6 on software update. This has been going on for 6 months. I thought maybe with 10.6.4 they fixed it but it did it again.
    yesterday I did a fresh install. Thinking it was caused by my old quicken 2007 or parallels (though its v 5) or something else that has some bit that starts at login I formatted the HD , installed 10.6 fresh and installed nothing but ilife 9. I downloaded the 10.6.4 update and it still happens. I logged off my account and logged back in to test and it froze again. I am at my wits end. The only thing I saved from my old profile was my mail folder. I can find nothing else to fix. Any ideas?

    Do things behave better if you boot into "safe mode" by holding down a shift key while your Mac is booting?

  • Simultaneous login problem

    Hi
    I am having simultaneous login problems. In the past I have been able to sign into my skype account on both my Mac Book Pro and my Windows 7 desktop PC. However since I had to change my password I can only login into one machine at a time now. Also when I change my password on the desktop PC I can only sign into that skype / computer. Whenever I type the same account name and same exact password on my Mac Book Pro, it says it doesn't recognize my sign-in details but I am 100% sure that I typed it in exactly the same way as I did on my desktop. Another is that when I reset my password on my Mac Book those details won't work on the Desktop PC and vice-versa.
    I would like to know what is the problem in this situation, I am not sure if this is an application error or a networking error where the account details are not signing in from a different IP or MAC address.
    Please and thank you!

    "The load balancing was already functional:"
    Do you have a description how to do that?
    I Would like to know how.
    "so ALL traffic, not going to the LAN network and so over this interface, went out on the DMZ interface, with source IP from LAN."
    If you put the VPN servers behind 1-1 NAT instead they will use the firewall as GW and the VPN clients will get at your remote sites/LAN IF you add routing definitions in VPN config what networks are reachable through VPN.
    Or you keep servers as they are but also add add more routing definitions in VPN AND static routes to each server with the firewall as gw to those remote networks. Default gw will still be through the DMZ IPs though.
    The problem with more than one VPN client from behind same IP address is, with your current server settings, most likely because of the client side NAT router isn't coping with the task. Your public IP VPN server(s) should mean NAT VPN problem is at the other end (customer/client network router/firewall).
    If two VPN clients behind same NAT router connected to different servers at your end, "12.34.56.80" and "12.34.56.81" (both are public IPs?) respectively I believe at least two should be able to connect.
    3G/4G modems isn't an option?
    Maybe try bringing your own tested working portable router (ethernet/wifi maybe includes a VPN client that connect to your servers) to the customer and put it temporarily on their LAN? There are these small new 3G/WiFi routers too. Depends on wether you need to be connected to customer LAN or not.
    Try other VPN solution, SSL or OpenVPN?
    Use both PPTP and L2TP simultaneously (PPTP could be troubelsome if GRE/TCP 1723 passthrough is disabled)?

    I want to get more information about this issue.
    Had you got any error messages during the login process?
    If no domain users can log into those PCs?
    If this is just a login problem in those PCs and there is no error Roaming profiles error during the login process, this article may be helpful for you:

  • ICloud login problem on Apple Mail App

    So is Apple considering its own Mail App on the Mac to be a third part app? Been having login problems since they started requring two step verification on third party apps. Once I shut off my two step verification on my iCloud account it worked fine.

    You shouldn't need to turn off two-step verification or use an app-specific password for your Mac mail to work with iCloud (mine works fine).  Try turning tow-step verification back on.  If Mail doesn't work, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.
