Strange Mail folder activity

hi
I am posting this after a pretty extensive search on this discussion board.
There is something strange going on with one of my clients' mail folders. lets call this folder oscars 2009.
the last few days , strange old emails have started filing into his folder, emails from 2007 that shouldn't be in there. when I first created the folder, there were only about 5 emails in it. not there are about 70-80 random emails placed in this folder but not by the end user.
has anyone seen this happening or do i need to monitor my client for user error 24-7?
thanks

follow up:
i took her off the imac to a more robust macbook pro. completely rebuilt her email program, imported the mailboxes and copied all files over by hand.
seems to be running fine now.
so this am, i get a call: my osfw2009 mailbox is completely gone!!
so, thinking ahead, i set her up with time machine. we went back to yesterday when she claims that she was working in that folder (I KNOW IT WASNT THERE CAUSE I MANUALY BROUGHT ALL FOLDERS IN) and we looked together into the actual home>library>mail>mailboxes folder.
I explained to her that these are all the mailboxes from yesterday and the osfw2009 was just not there. she still insisted that she created that folder until she said "oh wait, lets look at the OSfashionpreview2009 folder.
lo and behold, that was it.
user error. i cant fight it.
thanks for all your help

  • SMTP sent mail not showing up in sent mail folder

    Hello,
    Setup:
    Exchange 2010 SP1
    Outlook 2010
C# for sending mail, or Pentaho Kettle
Not really sure how to explain, but I have the following scenario:
Automatic programs send email using credentials (an active username / password on the domain. account linked to a mail box).
    Mail gets sent.
Mail does not show up in the sent mail folder of the account
I was wondering if there was a parameter on the Exchange server to configure so that the email sent via SMTP would show up in the sent mail box of the account.

  • STRANGE mail.app problems - Help!

A client's mail is severely screwed. here's a (brief) summary:
    OS 10.3.9
Client had mail hang & spin while having 3 replies open. Stuck in a loop, tried numerous Disk Warrior, repairs, permissions, etc etc etc... Client's Mail folder in ~/Library/Mail is huge, over 9GB (many mailboxes).
*Oddest thing: THAT mail folder cannot be copied over to external FW Hard drives (tried 2) hangs after 806mb. Got a strange error about "Incoming mail cannot be read or written" - words to that effect. I've never seen such a thing. I can't even backup that mail folder to simply wipe the drive to update to Tiger.
    ANY help appreciated!!
    Chotty

Finally I've figured out what happened for not syncing anymore what I did on the Mail.app mailbox of my Professional Exchange account.
So, the problem was the MailTags plugin: http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html
I don't know if it was after the Trial Period that went rogue, or this has happen since the install, but when I've uninstalled it, it worked just fine.
Hope this help someone with the same problem.

  • Does yahoo push not work for bulk mail folder?

I don't seem to be having any problems with yahoo push in my Inbox, but it doesn't seem to be working for my bulk mail. I have to actually go into my bulk mail folder for it to update. Is this normal? Thanks!

That is normal activity. Works the exact same way on tests phones we have set up. Bulk/junk mail is not something that all would like getting pushed through.

  • Gmail "All Mail" folder.  Why can I not delete messages?

i am new to the Mac community.  When I open Mail, I have a Gmail folder labelled "All Mail".  This folder loaded over 10600 messages from my earlier email activity on a PC.  Every time I try to delete any of them, the messages just load back into the folder.  Is this normal?.  i can move messages to the "Bin" folder, but they still cannot be deleted.  Are these messages taking up hard disc space on my new iMac?  If so what can I do about it?

I have a different but related question re Gmail's "All Mail" folder: will Gmail get confused if there are emails in folders (tags) that don't have a corresponding copy in the All Mail folder?
    CONTEXT:
In my Mac's mail app, I have several accounts (a couple Gmail accts, my icloud acct, etc.).  Thus far I've been moving mail from my main Gmail acct into my folders (tags) in that Gmail acct, to store them after I've read / acted on them. E.g., I have a folder for 2013Q1, 2012Q4, 2012Q3, etc. -- these comprise basically a chron-based, self-managed set of archive folders. I even started moving mail from the Sent folder into these folders.
However, I'd like to also start moving mail from my NON-Gmail accts to that main Gmail acct and store them in the same folders.  I see that when I move a mail from, say, my iCloud acct, it does show up in the target Gmail folder, but there is NO copy of that mail showing up in the Gmail "All Mail" folder.
Is that a problem?  It seems to me that Gmail's All Mail folder is there as a master-index to mail in various folders (tags) ... so is it a problem to have a mail is in a Gmail folder without being in All Mail?  (I think the same question would apply if someone wanted to delete mail from Gmail's All Mail folder -- can it be done without harming the copy in other folders?  (An example that's not directly on-point: I've considered deleting those myriad drafts that get uploaded to Gmail automatically when you are drafting a message -- but in that case, only the final draft is in another Gmail folder.)
    Thanks!

  • Big TM backups of Mail folder and subfolders

    Hi all:
Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere. I have been having a recurrent problem with my TM backups (to a Time Capsule): The backups are pretty big (3-4GB), even though nothing of that size has really been changed on the disk. Using BackupLoupe, I figured out that the culprit is the (Apple) Mail folder: all of the 3-4GBs are there, distributed among my IMAP mailboxes and some mailboxes I store locally. That makes no sense, since even if some messages had been moved, erased, etc., TM should only backup the single messages (which Mail stores separately), and not the whole mailbox.
Somewhere (I don't remember where) I read a suggestion to create a new "Mail" folder, moving the contents of the old one there and then deleting the old one, as the reason for the big backup has something to do with the folder itself being corrupted in some way. Well, that works, but only temporarily: if I do it, the backup goes back to a reasonable size for a while, but then -sometimes after a few hours, sometimes after a few days- it gets back to 3-4GBs, always for the same reason. If I don't do anything, the big backups persist indefinitely.
Resetting TM, as suggested elsewhere in this forum as a general solution to TM issues, does not help as well.
Excluding the whole "Mail" folder would obviously be a solution, but it seems to be excessive (it may be O.K. for the IMAP folders, but I am concerned with the locally stored mailboxes that would not be backed up).
Does anyone have any insight on how to deal with this? Any help will be appreciated: it is a serious nuisance to have my MBP using Wi-Fi bandwidth to back up almost constantly.

    That's quite strange.
It's a bit of a long shot, but a couple of people with roughly similar problems fixed them by downloading and installing the 10.6.5 "combo" update. That's the cleverly-named combination of all the updates to Snow Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324 Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.

  • Cannot move junk email to Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo, greyed out

I've searched but so far no luck.  Ever since I added my two Yahoo email accounts on my iPhone 4, I cannot seem to send junk email from my inbox to my Bulk Mail folder, it is greyed out.  First off, I've confirmed that the Bulk Mail folder on my iPhone is the same as my Spam folder in Yahoo mail on the desktop.  I can see the same emails in both folders.  Anyone have the same experience and found a way to correct this, or is this just a Yahoo limitation?

I am having the same problem, but I'm not very clear on how to follow the steps.
    went to my yahoo account in IOS;
    hit edit, hit "new mailbox" at the bottom right corner of the screen;
    entered a name;
    below that, it has "Mailbox Location", I opened it;
it list all my personal folders, I am stuck here.
How do I "point the mailbox location to the Bulk Mail folder", as instructed? Am I missing a step?
This is for iPhone 4S, with the latest released version. Thank you!

  • How to rename an Outlook mail folder with Automator.

    Hello,
I would like to use a Service from Automator to rename a mail folder in Outlook. The folder names are "<first name> <last name>". And they need to be renamed as "<last name>, <first name>". E.g. "John Doe" becomes "Doe, John".
    In Outlook that would be:
Right click on the folder name.
From the drop down menu, select "Rename".
Jump to the end of the folder name [option] [right arrow].
Select the last name: [shift] [option] [left arrow].
    Cut the name: [command] [x].
    Delete the space: [delete].
Go to the beginning of the name: [option] [left].
Insert the last name: [command] [v]
Insert a comma and a space: [,] [space].
    Finish the rename: [return].
    In Automator:
    Create a new Service.
    Insert "Get Selected Outlook Items".
    Record the steps above.
    Click Run.
The results of thelast step is: "Watch Me Do failed - 1 error. Application Outlook is not running when it is expected to".
Outlook is running and a folder is selected.
Anybody any idea what I do wrong?
    Thanks!
    Zojnk.

  • Mail going to the Junk Mail folder but not marked as Junk Mail

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me. It's something I had done but I don't know what I have done. All of a sudden all my emails from eBay are going directly to my Junk Mail folder, although when I try to click them as 'Not Junk' (Thumbs Up) they are not even selected as Junk Mail and I can still select them to be Junk Mail.
At the moment I'm just dragging them back into the correct folder but it still keeps happening. (I sell a lot on eBay so it's happening quite often).
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Corey,
Check your settings as outlined in this link:

  • Cannot delete item from junk mail folder in iPad?

Some items cannot be deleted from junk mail folder on iPad 2. It will not move to trash.

Have you tried swiping across the message in the preview pane when you open the junk folder instead of opening the email and trying to use the trash can icon?
If that will not work either, try rebooting your iPad and then see if you can delete the junk mail.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • OS 10.8.5 Apple Mail fails to find POP Mail folder in Library?

Six weeks ago I transferred my wife's Mail account from iBook 10.4 to new MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5 w/considerable difficulty and help from senior Apple advisor. Yesterday Mail showed a welcome screen and could not find its Library Mail folder. I've been working with an Apple Senior Advisor who is unable to solve the problem — anyone help?
We did a complete Restore using Time Machine but this issue remained Welcome to Mail. We opened that and set it up so we can get mail but it still will not find all ht extensive POP folders and m-boxes in the Hidden Library folder

  • Mail keeps crashing after SL install, even after Mail folder moved to trash

I have also just upgraded to 10.6 and Mail crashes every time on launch. In my case, even moving the Mail folder in Library to trash has not worked. Every time I do this Mail regenerates the folder with all the old information, which I suspect is where the problem lies: I have tried Mail with a new user and it works.
How do I delete the Mail account completely (I cannot open Mail) to try and start from scratch?
Note: I already had a functional exchange account set up before the upgrade to SL, and left it there during the upgrade. Might Mail be crashing now because it is trying to use the previous settings?

  • Upgrade to Lion and lost Mail folder but app still works?

have upgraded to Lion but have lost my MAIL folder, have checked the new place of course but nothing there
also missing the com.apple.mail.plist as well ?
any suggestions on how to get these back as Mail is still running but playing at all sorts of weird games
    thank you,
    Gordie

Why do you say you have lost the Mail folder?  Is that because you are unable to find the Library folder that it resides in?  If so, that folder is now invisible.  Hold down option and click the Go menu in the Finder, then choose the Library item that appears there.

  • I need to transfer the Smart Mailboxes I have set up on one computer to another computer. Both are running 10.8.4 and Mail 6.3. None of the old solutions are viable since there is no longer a 'Mail' folder in the User account.

I acquired a new iMac, and need to transfer the Smart Mialboxes I have set up on my Mac Pro to the iMac. Mail is already set up to sync thorough iCloud, but the Smart mailboxes are - apparently - set up for individual machines. The only solutions I have been able to locate involve moving Preference files from one machine to the other; the problem is that there is no longer a 'Mail' folder set up for individual Users (actually there is no Mail folder at ALL under 10.8.4), and I am unable to locate any .plist files for Mail at all. Any idea how to make this haoppen?

Create a new smart mailbox. Does it sync? If not, do as below.
    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

  • How can I copy my mail folder from my macbook to sync it to my mac air?

I have a Macbook (black) and a Macair (silver). I use the black one daily, but want to use the silver one when I travel (dead light, etc). I am struggling to figure out how to update the email folder from the black on to the silver. In the past I have used the 'migration' option, but I don't want to migrate everything...only the mail folder. I have spoken to Mac Support several times but their suggestions haven't worked. I do have a Time Capsule that both of them back up to, but as each computer can only see its own back up stuff (pretty technical, I know...sorry), I don't know how to capture the mail folder from the black one and paste it into the silver one. Does anyone know how to do this?

Type "move itunes library from mac to pc" into the google search bar.
