Strange Markings on iMac G5 Screen -

In the middle of my 2009 G5 iMac, there is a wriggly vertical track that looks like a worm trail.  It is on the interior of the screen, something I discovered by trying to clean it off.
Interestingly, when I take a screenshot, the image does not appear.  But as I post this quesstion, there the annoying, squiggly, ugly thing is, just off to the right of the center of the screen …
Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

If you are not comfortable removing the glass panel yourself for cleaning...?
see > Aluminium iMac - removing and cleaning glass and LCD - YouTube
and/or > Cleaning screen of Intel iMac - YouTube
Then you will need to take it to your local Apple Store or AASP for cleaning.
see > Apple - Find Locations
FWIW, the last G5 was made in 2005, a 2009 is an Intel iMac.

  • My Imac desktop screen suddenly started to change colors and pattern appeared

My Imac desktop screen started to "flip out", things were moving around and strange patterns filled everything on the screen. After a minute it stopped. Is this a warning sign of a hard drive meltdown?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.
    BTW, 10.6.1?

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.

I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

One of the memory cards was indeed faulty, and the other completely fine
Thanks very much for all your help!
Although there is one little thing that I've noticed. The iMac works properly, but I tried to software update to see if that may help my Minecraft sound issue (as I still don't think only having 2GB instead of 4GB would cause such a problem) but the software update application won't work. Running the "Software Update" from the apple menu on the toolbar gains no response, nothing happens. If I run the software update from  system preferences, the application icon appears for a second, then disappears (as in the blank app. icon, the blank canvas with the pencil, pen and ruler in the bottom right corner). It does this every time I try to run it. It did work when the computer was crashing, but this started when on one of the occasions I ran the app. while it was crashing. Since this occured during the crashes, and still occurs now, I'm wondering did something simlar happen minecraft, as it's sound disappeared during the crashes and is still gone now.
However, the computer is now working again without crashes, which is the main thing, thanks for helping me fix the issue
Edit: I would mark the topic as solved, but I'm unsure if this would lock the topic or something simlar, so I'd rather leave it open for any ideas regarding the software update and Minecraft issues I'm having

  • Please Help: iMac black screens after startup logo + spinning wheel no cursor).

    Hi, guys.
I'm in a fair bit of a desperate situation; my iMac's screen seems to shut down every time after the white startup screen. The Apple logo appears, & the progress wheel begins spinning, then after a while - when it would usually then go to the gray login screen - it would, instead, go black. I can tell that the machine is still on (I can still hear it clicking as it does during processing) but I'm unable to determine anything else. Nothing is visible on the screen - not even the cursor - it's as if the display had turned off completely. I'm not sure if the login screen sits beneath that black screen (I have tried to log on by typing my login details in blindly, but even if it does log in, it's hard to determine what state the computer is in without seeing the screen.
I have tried the PRAM reset (holding CMD+OPT+P+R) during both the white startup screen, & the black screen to no avail. It seems unresponsive because I don't hear any additional chimes that I've been told should be heard during a PRAM reset attempt. I can't even be sure that the command is being inputted correctly because the light on my wireless keyboard remains off during the process.
I've tried rebooting over & over again; the results are the same.
The steps that led to the problem occurred thusly:
1 - I was trying to clear some memory from my current session, so I scanned through my active processes, quitting anything which seemed to be eating up considerable amounts of memory.
2 - One particular process I quit was 'launchd' which was functioning under my profile username.
3 - After quitting launchd, all opened apps seemed to close, & it looked like I was forcibly logged off the machine. The screen froze during this point, & I decided to do a hard reboot to log back in.
4 - The problem began after this hard reboot; startup seemed to occur as per usual; white screen > apple logo > progress wheel > and then suddenly, a black screen where the login screen should be.
I've shown a flashlight into the screen while it's black & it seems well & truly like the display has shut down while the iMac continues in the background. I have had issues relating to my screen going black before, but they were random & intermittent; they didn't occur without fail during the exact same time immediately after startup, & could be remedied by using the CTRL+OPT+EJT keys.
I am on an iMac 2010, 27", using I believe Lion OSX. I am unable to recall additional specifications while the problem persists.
Could anybody please help me? I'm quite desperate; I was in the middle of some urgent work that I need to get back to as soon as possible.
Thank you I'm advance to anyone with advice on how I can go about fixing this.
    ,c.

  • Strange orange lightspot on the screen?

Hello, I purchased xperia z3 from a local retailer about two months ago and everything has worked just as expected. But about two weeks ago I noticed a little, strange orange lightspot on the screen above the charging/USB port, on the upper left corner, And now its getting bigger and bigger and I dont have no idea what it is? I know it is on the screen, but where did it come from, there is no way that I made this damage because i had a cover on it since the day one and I have held it properly (not dropping etc.) so i think it is a manufacturing defect and I am going to take my phone to repair service tomorrow, because this fault is clearly on the screen. Just wondering that does anyone have similiar problem with their xperia?

Yes i have this exactly the same on my Z1.
But before you send it out for repair, try this out
Open all flaps > Go install AnTuTu Benchmark and run "System Stability" for a few times.
One possibility of the yellow-orange spot is the glue inside your phone maybe leaked or anything like it(but it does connected with the glue). So the reason you run "System Stability" is to deliberately increase your phone temperature and to vapourise the glue.
And i even tested my phone underwater to see if its still waterproof and it does!!
    For reference,here's the post :

Hope you too can solve it this way

  • IMac 27 screen went blank installing snow leopard

My iMac 24 screen went blank installing snow leopard. Should I wait? I wish this **** machine ha a HDD light like a PC.

You can attempt to reset the PRAM in the machine, but it looks as though there's a hardware problem. It's actually kind of difficult to determine if it's the graphics hardware or the mainboard, but neither are really servicable. You'll want to take it to get serviced.

  • IMac 27inch screen shutoff

hi my iMac 27inch screen shutoff automatically. Sometimes I can wake the screen up again but sometimes I can't. Sometimes the screen just turns back on after a few minutes. I sent it back to the place I bought it. They say the either the motherboard or the screen is broken. I have to pay something around 800 dollars to repair it. It almost half price of the computer. Is there any other solution to my problem?

Only if they are wrong about the screen or motherboard being broken.
How old is it? And you did not get apple care when you bought it?
Had you gone to system preferences>energy saver and adjust the time before the screen sleeps?
The "turns back on" kind of is a bad sign for you though... Sorry I am unable to help at ALL.

This thread is a continuation of [New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=22 12682]. The thread was becoming too long and was causing some browsers to time out. The older thread has been locked.

    Hi Brett L,
thank you for the coordination of this helpful thread. Are you Apple? If yes, please allow me to ask you three questions:
    1) The Display Firmware stopped for over 90% the flicker issue, but what has this Firmware changed exactly?
    2) Is Apple preparing a fix for the yellow tinge?
    3) When will it be save to buy a new iMac?
    Thank you for your efforts.
    Hello Citrus.
    Excellent questions.
I hope that Apple will authorize Brett L. to provide us with some clear, honest answers to them . . . although, as I pointed out before, it would seem by the latest messages that have been posted in this thread -- that is, the *original thread* -- that through their actions, Apple has already provided us with their answer -- and solution -- to the yellow tinge issue; and that is the replacement of the LCD panel.
As to what the most recent display firmware update did, I am doubtful that Apple will allow Brett to reveal that kind of information, but we can be hopeful.
As far as when it will be safe to purchase a new iMac, I seriously doubt that Apple will say anything which would suggest that it is not safe to purchase a new iMac now. What company is going to say "Don't buy our product now. It's not safe"?
For my part, I have now contacted Apple regarding the issues that I am having with my 27" iMac, and I will wait over the next few days to see how things play out. Based on the testimonies of others here, I don't expect Apple to disappoint. I have the confidence that they want to leave me a satisfied customer who will continue to purchase their products in the future.

  • IMac G5 Screen Cracked!

My iMac G5 screen was cracked when my son threw a toy at it while throwing a fit. Some of the old background is still visible, but most of the screen is dominated by wierd colors and designs. Is it possible to get this fixed? If so, how do I go about doing it?
    iMac G5

    Hi,
I don't know if it is going to be cost effective for you to have your screen replaced. I've seen some posts here at the forum quoting prices in the $600+ range.
You might want to call Apple Service, I'm sure they have a standard price for replacing display. I would try to figure out how you can back up your data. I believe you can also add a 'second monitor' but you would have to do all the configs and if your screen isn't working that's nearly impossible...

  • My iMac computer screen is blurred by black and white lines.

My iMac G5 screen is blurred by black and white horizontal lines and tiny rectangles. This occured after I woke it up from sleeping. Everything else seems to be working fine, but is impossible to see what I'm doing. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Fixed it! Rebooting the computer while holding down the command, option, P and R keys while letting the chime ring 4 or 5 times did the trick.

  • Strange marks on Curve 8900 screen

    Hi folks,
I hope someone can help me out. I have a new blackberry 8900 javelin (have like 4 months of use) and some strange marks appeared on the screen. They are small marks, but they don't disappear. I had the same problem with my last curve 8900 (I had 3 8900 models) but last time, the marks disappeared in a few days. Those on mine are not disappearing. I know it's not a liquid crystal leak, it's a malfunction or something, because the mark had a different shape in a few days ago. Here are some pictures i took to show the problem.
hope someone can help me out!
    thanks guys!

    Hey eduardopfm,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Those marks are definitely hardware/lcd screen related.  I would suggest contacting your network service provider or point of sale for repair options as this is not software related.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.
