Strange markings on screen...

A few things before I get to the point...
-got my MacBook Pro in late August
-I don't touch my screen at all, unless I am cleaning it.
-Nobody else uses my laptop except me.
About 2 months after I got my laptop I noticed some strange marks on my screen. I could only clearly notice them against a white background because they are grey/black.
2 marks close together at the top of the screen, I rarely noticed them. Only against a plain white background, even with little text against a white background it's hard to see. I didn't mind until about a month after that (probably less than that) I noticed another mark on my screen at the very right. It started to bother me and I decided to clean my screen with a damp soft cloth. There were a few smudges that I saw and got rid of them, turned my laptop back on and opened a blank web browser only to notice that they are still there.
I ignored it and continued when couple more markings showed up in the bottom left. Note that these markings are not smudges, but like little black / grey scratches or cracks. I can't physically feel it on the screen, so I'm assuming it has to do with something inside? I don't really know why I decided to post this now, but by the time a year is up with this laptop my whole computer will be covered in little black marks. I have tried hard to get them off, but I can't as they are not "on" the screen.
If you want me to take a picture with my digital camera against a white background I can to point out all the markings and, just takes me a few minutes to upload them.
Oh, and another important thing is that when I tilt my screen all the way back, so you are looking at the screen at an angle where it's turning dark but you can still see... the markings disappear as if they are not there. It's like I have a perfectly clean screen when I tilt it back, but when I look at it properly these markings appear.
^.^< meow!</div>

No, the trackpad is not touching the screen and I'm not using a keyboard skin. Sorry for the late response, but here are the links to them.

There are a few more on my screen, but I didn't take a picture because it's pointless, it's the same thing over again. There are more of those types of marks on the bottom left and in a few other areas of the screen. It's annoying on a white screen, so...
There you go, thanks for the help so far!
Note: "Camera on Screen" pictures are messed up, so ignore any lines any pixelation and the brightness, my screen isn't really that grey...

  • Strange start up screen

Any ideas why I am getting this strange start up screen. After this everything seems to load and behave as normal.
Started up from AHT disc and the options screen was also split into quarters.
Thanks in advance for any resolutions.

The image didn't come in.  Use this tip as a guideline:
How to post an image in Apple Support Communities
When AHT fails to fix a problem, it is typically hardware related.
    The 2010 Mac Mini http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-core-2-duo-2.4-mid -2010-specs.html
Supported HDMI and mini-Displayport with audio.  If the display you are connecting to is VGA, that's analog, and might not have the proper adapter to see whats coming out of the digital signal of the Mac Mini's ports.   HDMI is more designed for TVs, and Mini-Displayport is more designed for computer screens.
TVs usually are designated 1080p, 740p, 740i, 480p, and 480i, and the setting by the TV remote controls as much of the display as the computer.    So verify if using a TV, that the display is matched up with what the computer thinks it is.   DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX can help in resolution issues with TVs on Macs and give you more pixel level control than some TVs support.  On VGA adapters 4:3 ratios are typically the only ones supported.  DVI is far better supported.

  • Strange Markings on iMac G5 Screen -

In the middle of my 2009 G5 iMac, there is a wriggly vertical track that looks like a worm trail.  It is on the interior of the screen, something I discovered by trying to clean it off.
Interestingly, when I take a screenshot, the image does not appear.  But as I post this quesstion, there the annoying, squiggly, ugly thing is, just off to the right of the center of the screen …
Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

If you are not comfortable removing the glass panel yourself for cleaning...?
see > Aluminium iMac - removing and cleaning glass and LCD - YouTube
and/or > Cleaning screen of Intel iMac - YouTube
Then you will need to take it to your local Apple Store or AASP for cleaning.

FWIW, the last G5 was made in 2005, a 2009 is an Intel iMac.

  • Intermittent problems with strange patterns on screen

My new (refurbed) 17in Intel Imac starts up periodically with a strange pattern running at 45 degrees across the entire screen (little multicolor boxes or rectangles) then the screen goes to all blue and freezes with no further activity. I have run the hardware test, reset pram and disk utility with no solutions. It will still boot up perfectly about every 3rd attempt. I'm running 10.4.10. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using a backup afterwards, described in this article:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If the screen has still this pattern, the issue is hardware related and the phone needs to be serviced. In that case it might be enough to let Apple replace the screen.

  • Very strange text on screen - Server 10.2.8

One place I work has a Mac network based around a G4 1.25 Ghz server running 10.2.8 Server and some Mk II iMacs running normal 10.2.8. Yesterday when I came in the server was showing a black screen with the following text scrolling down the screen in great lines:
    diskOs9; Ox5 (UNDEFINED) <- written down in haste, I think I got the O as a letter not a number 0
... touching mouse or keyboard added further strange text and then it would return to the above.
Totday it all seems happy. But somehow I doubt if this is healthy. Any advice greatly appreciated. I'm trying to persuade the outgoing CEO not to set in train the acquisition of PCs, if only because I genuinely think it would end up costing more in the long run, and the place is hard up already!
I'm also wondering if the batteries on these machines are getting old - the network dates from 2003. Some of the last saved dates on the server are definitely totally wrong. Moreover there are strange things happening too; last week my files were dated things like 1911, 1942 etc etc, this week they are perfectly OK.
    Getting worried!

  • Strange marks on screen

I have a 20 in flat screen that is about 3 years old. The other day I noticed strange lines/marks on the bottom of the screen. On a light page the marks are blue and on a dark screen the marks are red. The marks remind me of smears, like if you go to the store and the register tape is running out and it puts those funky marks on your receipt. It gets worse when I scroll up like it is smearing on the page. Very strange. I just hope this isn't going to be an expensive fix. Any help to my problem would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same issue as well - I hope I'm still under the extended apple care..

  • Mac Pro 3,1 - freezes, shows strange pixels on screen and then restarts

My Mac Pro 3,1 sometimes freezes and shows strange pixelated objects on the screen and then restarts by itself. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue?
I'm running OS X Mavericks on it and everything is up to date. I have a lot of saved professional audio work on it that needs to be done and I can't afford to get a new Mac Pro. Any please help me out! Thanks a lot.

  • Is my i7 MBP GPU malfunctioning?  Strange pattern on screen?

Happens in the morning after the computer has been sleeping all night.
    Diamond shape artifacting I guess?
Computer runs for about 3 minutes, then screen gets a strange pattern across it, then locks up.
Looks like this after the hard boot.

After I leave it on for a bit and let it warm up reset the power then it boots like this.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/428893/Mbp/Movie%20Dec%2002%2C%209%2013%2043%20AM.mov
After it gets to the desktop things are really crashy and don't load properly, so a 3rd boot is needed.
After 3 reboots the problem goes away, so what ever it is I assume needs to warm up before it works right.
Its obviously hardware related, I suspect my logic board / GPU need to be replaced?
All this happens as soon as I move to Mexico where there are no Mac service places around!
Anyone know if mac will ship replacement parts for user serviceable components?

Unfortunately, this does have the look of a hardware problem, probably having to do with a graphics chip. Have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test? You might get an error code which would indicate where the problem is.
There is a way to contact Apple in Mexico--you might want to do that and see what options they can offer you:

    Good luck!

  • IPod (5th gen) has strange bars on screen/won't start - iTunes 7 problem??

Hello, I have been having strange problems with my iPod for the past two days.
•Wednesday night I downloaded some TV shows. For some reason I ran the software update and allowed my computer to download and install the new iTunes 7. After installing, I turned off the iPod and went to bed.
•Thursday morning I was disappointed to find that my iPod would not turn on (I pressed menu and play at the same time and nothing happened). Later that day a coworker suggested that I press menu and the center button at the same time and it came to life again!
•Thursday evening I watched my TV show with no problems and the iPod seemed fine. However, this morning I tried to turn on my iPod and now it's not working again!!
I press menu and the black screen with the Apple logo flickers on for 1 second, then goes blank and then comes up again for 5 seconds, then disappears and a horizontal row of very thin lines shows up, running along the bottom 1/4 of the screen...I tried pressing menu & center button, menu & play...that causes the black screen & Apple logo to flicker on and off several times over and over, until after about 8 seconds it cuts off the top half and then becomes blank or the horizontal rows of lines occupy the bottom 1/3 of the screen.
In doing some quick research it seems that a lot of people are having problems after the iTunes 7 update, could that be my problem? If so, how do I uninstall it??
    Thanks!!
    best regards,

problems and the iPod seemed fine. However, this
morning I tried to turn on my iPod and now it's not
    working again!!
I press menu and the black screen with the Apple logo
flickers on for 1 second, then goes blank and then
comes up again for 5 seconds, then disappears and a
horizontal row of very thin lines shows up, running
along the bottom 1/4 of the screen...I tried pressing
menu & center button, menu & play...that causes the
black screen & Apple logo to flicker on and off
several times over and over, until after about 8
seconds it cuts off the top half and then becomes
blank or the horizontal rows of lines occupy the
    bottom 1/3 of the screen.
In doing some quick research it seems that a lot of
people are having problems after the iTunes 7 update,
could that be my problem? If so, how do I uninstall
    it??
    Thanks!!
    best regards,
    Lisa
    iPod 5th Generation
      Mac OS X (10.3.1)
    Hallo Lisa
I have identical the same problem, also as from wednesday night, the only diference is that i was still using the previous version of iTunes. Took my iPod (5th generation) to Apple, they swopped it out for a new one saying it was a Hard drive problem, I don't agree, New iPod has same problem. My old iPod's, a 1st and 4th generation as wel as a mini and shuffel has no problems at all. I then uploaded to iTunes 7 to no avail.
In adition my 5th gen ipod makes sounds that to me sounds like the hard drive atempting to start up every time aprox 5 to 8 sec with the apple logo apaering at the same time for hours on end.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" strange stain on screen

Hi guys. Today i noticed a strange stain on the bottom right corner of my Macbook Pro Retina 15 screen (plase see the photo provided). I thought that it's just dirty but it's impossible to clean it. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Hi!, this is a message that I left in another post that is related to this case:
Hi guys. I have the same problem and this clearly is a design problem.
We all have had bad experiences in both official Apple stores and partners stores separately so I think is time to make Apple seriously aware of this issue and ask them to find us a free and permanent solution. We are all Apple loyal customers and this problem clearly is not our fault, it is not driven by bad use so we need to join forces and push the company to solve this.
I have created an online database so the people that want can get it and share your problem details, pictures as well as your Macbook details and contact info. As soon as I have an important amount of people (let's say 50 - 100 people) I will start contacting Apple employees via social networks and provide them with details of the people in the list.
    https://macbookscreenproblem.wufoo.com/forms/zsnnv1p0gc67dc/
Of course this DB is STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and will ONLY be used to contact Apple and show them that there is a significant amount of people with this problem and that we are demanding a solution to this.
Let's join forces and fix this annoying problem.
    Thanks,
    Eduardo

  • When using Firefox today a strange page with the title wonderhowto showing video instruction appears and all other open pages are closed. I have minimalised this stranger to the screen base and it now shows there with a mini firefox attached!

Please bear with me as I am quite new to computers. Early today on start up I was asked to upgrade an Apple app. I declined as I did not have time.
I opened Firefox as usual and went into several sites mail news etc and all seemed fine. Late morning this strange and quite professional looking video instruction page appeared full of photo's and instructions etc, the page took over the whole screen I thought it was strange so I closed it and all my open Firefox sites had gone. This has now happened several times. I have now noticed that when it is up there is a website address at the bottom of the screen. I tried to copy and paste this but it would not let me. There is a name scorecardresearch.com. Does this strike a bell with anyone?

    Hello,
My name is Bryan Crow, and I am the CEO of WonderHowTo.com. This problem was brought to my attention this morning by others who have reported the same problem to our contact address: [email protected] I'm very sorry to hear this is happening.
I assure you this is not something our website created or installed on your computer. Most likely it is some form of spyware or virus that is opening our website in order to hide it's true purpose. We are a large and trusted source for how-to articles and videos, so there is no reason we would choose to annoy people with such an obnoxious and intrusive behavior. Frankly it's very upsetting that someone would create malware that directed people to our website.
Naturally, our team would like to do whatever we can to try and find the culprit behind this so we can report them. If any of you can provide me with additional information by emailing [email protected], it could help us get to the bottom of this.
    Specifically:
    * Have you installed or updated any Firefox Add-Ons recently (go to Firefox -> Add Ons to see the list of add-ons you have installed)?
    * What Firefox Add-Ons do you have installed?
    * Have you tried running a virus or spyware scan on your system? If so, which software did you use and did it help?
    * What URL is opening up when you see WonderHowTo, and what exact time of day (and in what time-zone) did you see it?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Tecra S2: strange dots on screen appearing with no reason and at random

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop for almost a year now.
I formatted it 2 months ago and when i did this. i had stranges dots on my screen, appearing with no reason and at random. I dont have a clue where it came from and i decided to format my computer again.
I've installed the latest chipset driver from the intel website and then i've installed the latest driver from the toshiba site.
I've noticed the problem is back. so that didn't solve anything. What can I do about this?
PS, not only the dots, but i cant play games also.

    HI Jelle,
When you say that you formatted your notebook, did you completely re-install the operating system from the recovery discs ? If you did then the display should work correctly.
If you installed the operating system from Microsoft discs then you will need to download the correct Toshiba drivers for your Tecra from the Toshiba web site download page.

  • Strange beepcodes, black screen at startup

    I got a new MSI kt3v mainboard (6712) and a new
gforce 4200 ti. An athlon 1700+ cpu and 2x 256 DDR memory stix. My ATX power supply is 300W. My OS is WINxp Pro with all the latest servicepacks and hotfixes. I recently installed the VIA 4in1 drivers.
My problem so far was that i had random hangups...in games
or just when i was surfing around on the internet or when i did nothing at all. ctrl +alt +del didnt work ´cos my screen went all blank (black) so i had to hold down my powerbutton to shut of the PC. After trying to reboot it I got those strange beepcodes and I couldnt find out what they mean (the bios is AMI). It is as following:
2 short followed by 8 then its a long pause for about 6-7 seconds then 2 short and 1
I have toggled my memory-stix around...it seemed to work but after some time...same  happens,
sometimes it wont even beep...its kind of random.
I took out everything and tried again. After taking out the ethernetcard it worked then after a while it crashed again.
After replacing my g-card and (me stupid) changing a setting in bios for the graphicscard from PCI to AGP it worked fine for a loing time then later after bbeing uptime for one night long it crashed again. My LED D-Bracket shows different codes but they change so fast I cant really see wjat the issue is. Apparently it stops showing in my handbook : realtime clock problem if I´m not forgetting something. Please help

    thanx for the link...
Like I said I checked out all different sites about beepcodes before and in my case the PHOENIX bios beep codes would match my problems but I got AMI-bios, but i heard / read that AMI and PHOENIX r sort of the same...correct me if I`m wrong :P
When theres no beeping at all the D-bracket shows hanging when it tests VGA-bios.
wonkanobey I didn´t quite understand what you said by posting watts and volts of Psu label and so on pleeze xplain

  • Follow up to frozen mac... strange colours on screen?

hi everybody.... my screen has just had a funny turn.
red and electric blue appeared replacing some of the colours of the images i was looking at... (black being replaced in part)
web page, then screen saver, then iphoto... checked display in preferences... clicked again on imac and it went away. my question is this the start of my display or graphics chip failing??
and could this also be related to my screen locking up... freezing. I been getting "ghost" blocks of pixels... sometimes from a open web page or folder icon coming thro' or replacing part of a image. hard to discribe... its almost like the display remebers another part of the screen.
any tests that I could do to see if its the graphic side of things or is a visit to the Aple store.
    any ideas ...
    thanks
    mark

    Thanks for the suggestion srojtas.
The eMac has been running fine since posting this and completely passed the Remember memory test. I also tested it by filling the memory up by opening many apps and it didn't crash at all there either.
The eMac didn't come with a hardware CD sadly, so I can't test it that way!
I feel now it must have all been due to me not seating the memory correctly.
