Strange menu when I select File Open, etc.
(ARGH! Can't get Skitch to work here) how do I post a screen shot??....
I have noticed recently that when in Photoshop (and InDesign), when I select File>Open, I get a strange screen that is not the normal menu... it looks like this:

I think you must have version cue enabled. In the lower left hand
corner of the open menu it says- Use OS Dialog, press that to get
mac open dialog.
If you don't need version cue, it can be turned off in the application's
perferences or i think in the mac control panel if you have a creative suite
installed.

Make sure you are using the latest iTunes.
This was removed in iTUnes 11.0.1 and 11.0.2 but reinstated after that.

When I select files to archive, they move from my file folder, but then I go to the archive folder and it says Empty? Where are those files?
Your account names are probably different on the two Macs. If you know the UNIX command line, open a terminal window and run:
$ id
You should see a line that starts with something like this:
uid=501(your_user_id_here)
now check the owner of the folder you copied over:
$ ls -ld Music
drwx------+ 8 some_user_id_here staff 272 May 14 16:08 Music
Do the IDs match? If not, you could change the ownership. Say your id is "johnsmith"
$ chown -R johnsmith Music
Now try and access it with iTunes. -
Why does preview quit unexpectedly when I click file-open?

I updated Firefox and now, when I select File, Send Link, a dialog box pops up asking me to establish a new account before I can send the link via email. I use Outlook, so how do I avoid setting up some new account and yet am able to send the link via Outlook?
I have a feeling it may have something to do with HotMail.com.My Error: I found out that it was Mozilla Thunderbird that was causing the problem. I uninstalled it and the problem went away.

It immediately hangs and I get the beach ball and have to force quit (on a Mac) and in the force quit menu the program name will turn to red and say not responding. I can open new docs as well as double click and drag files over the AI icon with no issue. Saving seems to be fine as well. Any ideas as to what would be causing this? I've checked all fonts and everything gets a clean bill of health there. Plus no new fonts have been installed.

When downloading a file, "open" option does not appears, only "save" does
Before updating to 5.0, when downloading a file, I could select between "Open" and "save". Now I don't have the "Open" option. I need it because of my work and is a must have or it will take to much time to save and then opening them. In normal morning with "open" option took me like 30 minutes. Now it took me 1.5 hours and can't afford to loose that much time.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

A possible cause is that the server sends a wrong response header.
The server may not comply to RFC 5987 and sends a wrong Content-Disposition:attachment; filename header.

Remember to open the specific folder when you go file-open in dreamweaver.
Hi, everytime I go to 'file - open', the default folder under 'look in' is 'my documents'. Once I opened a local folder in dreamweaver, I need dreamweaver to remember that folder for all the time.
I know I can modify required folder as a default folder in words 2003 this way: Tools - Options - File Locations - highlight Documents - click Modify - browse the folder I need the application to remember.
The question is what is the equivalent this in dreamweaver to modify, just like in word?

Help! I can't save to disc OR backup my iTunes Library! iTunes support instructions are to simply select 'File', then 'Library', then select 'Back Up to Disc', but when I try to the only options that appear are 'Organize Library...', 'Export Library...' then below those are 'Import Playlist...' and 'Export Playlist...' (which appears in the list, but I cannot select). No option to save my library appears at all. Just those four. I've had no problems syncing, playing, adding or purchasing with my account and my iTunes version is up to date. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and what I should do so I can save my library?

I have a dll that uses pattern matching. At what point is that .png file opened and loaded? Does is occur when the dll is loaded, or when the function that uses it is called?
The png file would be opened and loaded when you supply its name to a function for loading the template. If you have pre-trained the template, make sure you use the load routine that includes the extra data. It couldn't load the png file when the dll is loaded because it doesn't know the name of the file yet, unless you included the load function as part of the dll initialization.

Spinning rainbow wheel for some minutes when apps use file open dialogue
OSX 10.4.4
Powerbook, home Cable via Airport.
Whenever an application such as Firefox or Word (the worst) uses the File browse and open file dialog (Finder like window) I get a spinning rainbow wheel for up to two minutes.
I have tried everything I know to hunt this down, but it happens even when newly booted.
Finder on the other hand is fine.
Any clues what I could look at?My personal experience is that the whole iDisk/WebDAV/Finder thing is hopeless. I keep thinking it will get better, but it doesn't. I've been waiting since Jaguar, and it keeps being "one step forward, two steps back." I have given up on keeping the "official" iDisk on my hard drive. Instead I disabled the local iDisk, keep my own folder with items for my disk, and just use the freeware Goliath when I want to put something from my local files into my iDisk. You will amazed and how much faster Goliath is, and there will be no more agonizing pauses when you try to open or save something.

When a pdf file opens in Safari, then I can no longer select a window
When I go under the Window menu and select one, nothing happens. If I close Safari and re-open this seems to fix the problem temporarily until the next time I open a pdf window.
It took me a while to learn the potential of tabs, but I quickly found them addictive, although there are times when two windows are still better in my opinion, such as comparing a table, say, and an update to that table.
I have been using PDF Browser Plugin Since Safari 1.x. It works with all browsers and not just Safari. I have not seen a PDF in Safari without the plugin, so I cannot say how it is different. I can say that it has its own toolbar which will allow you to open the complete document that contains the page you are viewing, save or print the pdf, lets you adjust the document on the screen and to zoom in or out, and it will also rotate the document if needed (or even if not if you click on the button). -
When in Bridge CS6 and I select File / Open in Camera Raw... I get a dialog box that says: Camera
Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.

Bridge or Camera Raw are programs that comes bundled with other software. To activate them, you usually need to run Photoshop, for instance.

There is a strange beep when an application is opened on Macbook Pro
I need your help please... I am using Macbook Pro 13, Mountain Lion. Recently, it is very strange that there is a beep whenever I open an application.....It is really annoying....Do you guys have the same problem? Please help me get rid of that. Thanks
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
trying to import my old bookmarks which i found in html file, favorites, after a crash. Followed your instructions all went ok until, i selected favorites html file and selected "OPEN". library window was to close but didnt ??? what now ??? no other options to continue process.
Doesn't sound like that is an HTML file, but rather a folder of favorites sitting in Windows. Sorry, Firefox can't that data in that format.
