Strange MIDI bug involving C4 -- either won't register in Logic or hangs

Question

I'm facing a very strange problem. The middle C (C4) on my MIDI controller (using a Fastlane USB MIDI interface) often doesn't register in Logic. But if I press it a lot in quick succession, sometimes I can get Logic to recognize it and play it on a software instrument. But then it often hangs. Certain other notes hang too, like E4. It's always the same notes that show this susceptibility. I have no problems with B3 or C#4.
Also, when the middle C or some other note hangs, Logic becomes very unstable and often crashes the whole computer with a kernel panic as soon as I press play.
The strange thing is that this problem doesn't appear at all when I try to play the same notes in Garageband 3. The notes play and release perfectly. So it can't be a problem with my MIDI controller or the USB MIDI interface. It happens just when I'm trying to hit C4 and some other notes from a MIDI controller in Logic 7.2.1.
Has anyone else run into this weird problem?
My setup: Logic 7.2.1. Macbook Pro.

Hi Daniel.
I too am having some weird MIDI problems in Logic: mine take the form of random glitches in MIDI timing, and occasional notes that simply don't play. I started a thread on this a few days ago. What's interesting about your post is that you, like me, are using a MacBook Pro.
My timing glitches crop up in GarageBand as well as Logic, and since I've tried two different keyboards and two different MIDI/Audio I/O boxes, I'm confident the problem lies somewhere between the MIDI interface and the software front end. Best guess is that this is something that's happening on Intel macs, though of course there may be another explanation. But nobody running a G5 system seems to be having my particular problem, so I was interested that you're having something that's broadly similar - ie, MIDI glitching on an Intel mac.
Let's hope Apple are cruising these threads and bring out some sort of fix. And I'd be VERY interested to hear from anyone else running Logic on an Intel Mac - is anyone having a rock-solid, hassle-free MIDI experience on such a system?
