Strange mobileme mail behavior

Here's what's going on:
I can send mail from my ISP email on my iMac to my MobileMe email and receive it both on my iMac and iPhone, but I receive the email TWICE (as in duplicates) on my iPhone (once on my iMac).
I can send mail from my MobileMe email on my iMac to my ISP email and recieve it both on my iMac and iPhone, once each.
I can send mail from my MobileMe email on my iPhone to my ISP email and receive it both on my iMac and iPhone (once only).
I CANNOT send mail using MobileMe acct on my iMac at all. It gives me a "SMTP server unavailable..." error. I've checked and rechecked the acct settings (SMTP, ports, etc).
What the heck could cause this??

Strange e-mail Behavior

I have been experiencing a strange phenomenon with my Mail account, the nature of which is as follows. Whenever, I send an e-mail via my mail account using my Hotmail account the recipient gets the message, however, it states that the e-mail is coming from my wife’s Hotmail account instead of mine. It should be noted that the only similarity in both e-mail accounts is that they are Hotmail accounts. Any suggestion on what could be causing this strange phenomenon and how I can resolve same will be greatly appreciated.

Check Mail Preferences>Composing>Send messages from, & see if it's set to Send new messages from Last viewed account, or hers.

Strange new Mail behavior in Lion after iCloud implementation

I never use Apple Mail, I only use Gmail through my browser.
However, after getting an iPhone and installing iOS 5 on that, and enabling iCloud, the Apple Mail icon now bounces in the dock a few times a day, as if something is making it want to launch (even though I have never launched it on purpose).
Since the timing of this seemed iCloud-related, I searched through the settings I thought most likely to cause this, and none of them are enabled, but maybe I missed one. If so, can someone please tell me where that setting might be?
I looked in System Preferences->Mail, Contacts & Calendars and the 'iCloud' account syncs the following, which all have checkmarks: Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Photostream, Documents & Dtaa, and Find My Mac. However, the one that might affect this, "Mail & Notes", is not checked.
Similarly, in System Preferences->iCloud, the same boxes are checked as listed above, and "Mail & Notes" is NOT checked.
What am I missing here?

If you want to download random stuff from anywhere, or if you need or want to let your patches fall behind, or if you're going load whatever a pop-up or advert or drive-by package or toolbar that somebody wants to load, clicking on stuff in random mail messages (including fake invites, fake shipping reciepts, lottery announcements, etc), yes, you might consider loading an add-on tool.
OS X ships with Xprotect support enabled, and this can and has been used to lock down components (such as the Java JVM plug-in) when something nasty is loose.
The OS X Server variant ships with anti-malware tools — ClamAV — that can scan mail and related storage, and which can mitigate malware for OS X as well as for other platforms.
But anti-malware and anti-virus add-ons? In general, not needed IMO.
Recent attacks have targeted Flash and Java, and these are easily mitigated.
To avoid any need for anti-malware tools, keep your patches current, keep the Java JVM plug-in disabled in your web browsers (or don't install Java) and use a Flash blocker (or deinstall Flash) in your browser, don't download any stuff you didn't go looking for, pick gonzo passwords, have good backups and preferably a copy that can be offsite and disconnected, use a gateway-firewall, use sftp and not ftp, and all the rest of the usual advice applies...
There's no panacea: an anti-malware tool probably won't protect you from a wholly new attack or from what's called an advanced persistent attack, nor from spearphishing, either. So you still have to watch what you're doing.
The cure can be a problem, too: anti-malware tools work by doing the same sorts of things as the malware wants to do, insinuating itself into low-level corners of the OS, but attempting to detect and block the malware. The act of connecting into the OS can potentially cause problems for the "host" OS, just as malware can corrupt and crash a system.

Strange Junk Mail Behavior

I get a couple of thousand junk mails a day and have to empty the folder several times a day I have noticed at the bottom of the junk list is an email that has migrated from my inbox. i can move the file back into the correct mailbox. At first i thought is was a visual glitch But when i empty the junk folder the migrated email is deleted with it.
I have been going back and forth into my junk mailbox each time i go in, there is a single not junk email at the base of the list it can come from any mailbox including the sent folder.
Any thoughts.

This kind of problems are caused by some corruption in one or more of the files used by the junk filter. Try this first:
1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail and disable junk mail filtering.
2. Quit Mail, then open it again.
3. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk mail filtering, and configure it however you wish.
4. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

Migrating MobileMe Mail account to iCloud?

Strange....
I have two MobileMe mail accounts. Only one of them moved to iCloud when I downloaded Lion 7.2 and the other stayed a "MobileMe" account. I can't figure out how to convert the remaining MobileMe account to an iCloud account.
I've tried setting it up in the Mail program by manually adding it as a iCloud account, but it doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
Note: It IS a separte e-mail account--not an alias account.

Are you using an @mac.com Apple ID, e.g., [email protected]? Try [email protected]; my daughter had the same issue with a recently created account & I found the following somewhere:

Whats the difference between MobileMe Mail forums 960 and 961?

There are two MobileMe Mail forums. One is under "MobileMe on www.me.com" and the other is under "MobileMe on my Mac". There isn't really a new desktop mail application is there? Or am I living in a cave, and just didn't notice the update/announcement?

No I think you understand. It is just that I've been reading some of the posts in those forums, and it is often hard to tell what exactly people are talking about. The terminology used made me think maybe I had missed something. Maybe there was a MobileMe Mail App on my Mac, I thought that could 'sync' something.
Examples:

In general, it is a little hard to tell when people are talking about the web interface or the traditional desktop Mail.app.

Odd Junk Mail Behavior

I've been experiencing odd Junk Mail behavior on my Mac; I've got the Mail app set so it puts the emails it thinks is Junk in the Junk folder. I do this because I've noticed that certain legitimate emails keep ending up in the Junk folder automatically.
I've also noticed that some of the emails in the Junk folder have not actually been flagged as Junk Mail, they were not colored brown by the Junk Mail rule and there is no button available to tell Mail it's not Junk. How do I stop Mail from flagging something as Junk when it doesn't seem to tag it as Junk but it still ends up in the Junk folder?
I see emails tagged as Junk in the Junk folder that are legit, so I click the "Not Junk" button and move them back to the proper mail folder. But the next time I get mail from the same source, it gets flagged and tagged as Junk again. I thought the Mail app learns from the training we give it. How do I resolve this situation?
I've already set the Junk filtering to not filter emails from recipients who are in my Address Book.

Either you’ve messed with the Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced settings, or those settings have become corrupt, or you have one or more rules that have a bearing on this.
Assuming it isn’t the latter, try this:
1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

Accepts new code and verifies correct in settings but rejects when attempt to download mail as password incorrect. Reversion to settings shows accepted change not retained in memory. Starred password in memory appears unchanged from mobile me mail and not synced with recent icloud change.

Strange Navigation Bar Behavior

Hi, I'm currently designing a web page for non-profit
government organization.
Unfortunately, I'm running into some strange behavioral
problems with the navigation bar.
The tabs in my navigation bar run from left to right. As the
links are visited through the navigation bar, the links to the left
of which ever link is active stop working. I can't for the life of
me figure out why!
The pages are arranged in such a way that each page involves
three html files. One body file, one navigation bar file with it's
respective tab hilighted, and a little file that simply loads the
two, one on top of the other. The tabs in the navigation bar are
linked to the file that then loads the body and navigation(of
course). Clicking on a tab to the right of the active tab loads
everything perfectly. However, if the active tab is the right-most
tab, the tabs to the left no longer work properly. They seem to
reload the navigation bar, but the body gets left behind and the
URL still appears to be that of the right-most tab.

By going through the four tabs at the top, you can quickly
see things are going wrong.
The drop-down menu can be used to access the same pages that
the navigation bar refuses to load.
If you could please take a look at the site and reply with
any comments or suggestions as to what might be going wrong or what
I could do to fix it, I would be very grateful.
Note that I previously read something about strange
navigation bar behavior being caused by image names beginning with
numbers. This isn't what's happening here as my image names are all
"image 1" etc.
Also note that I'm using dreamweaver8

Well thanks for the suggestion, but that's not actually the
problem I'm having.
The newsletter link along with all that other stuff on the
left hand side is just stuff I havn't gotten to yet.
The problem I'm having is with the navigation tabs at the TOP
of the page(policies, forms, info and M.R.)! I know the links for
those tabs are correct, because I can see from hovering over the
tabs that they're pointing in the right direction, and if it's the
policies page(leftmost tab at the top) I'm on, all the tabs to the
right work perfectly. The problem is that when I'm on any other
page (such as the M.R. page which is the rightmost tab), all the
tabs to the left of it mysteriously stop working!
As I said, just quickly click back and forth through the four
tabs at the top of the page and you'll see what the problem is. In
fact, completely ignore everything that isn't those four tabs at
the top of the page, because everything else is unfinished.

Cannot view MobileMe Mail via Safari 5.1.1 in Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I am trying to view MobileMe Mail using Safari 5.1.1 using Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I can view Contacts, iDisk, etc., but for whatever reason, cannot see Mail. The page displays the message "Loading Mail..." and then stops loading. When I use Firefox, I have no issues whatsoever. Anyone having a similar issue?

Go to Safari / Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click: Details
Type apple in the search field top right corner of the window, click Done.
Quit then relaunch Safari.
Try www.me.com
And try emptying the Safari cache. Either from the Safari menu bar or Command + Option + E

Mail can't send mobileme mail

On two iPads, mobileme mail gets stuck on 'sending'. It periodically will say that smtp.me.com failed. I've tried deleting the account to no avail. I can receive email and browse the internet no problem.
Possibly related, I upgraded my router to a Time Capsule at about the same time this started happening, but I can't be sure it is the problem. I have an iMac on the same wireless network that can send email from the same address.

I don't think it would make sense that the router would haveanything to do with it. I am having the same issue, but only from the Mac Mailapp. My iPad and iPhone have no issues sending Mail. For whatever reason, theapp couldn't send mail the day of Apple's announcement of iCloud and theclosing of MobileMe. It shouldn’t affect it because MobileMe will still bearound until next year but I still think it’s a little weird.

Why can't I get MobileMe mail to show on iPad mail app, google mail only?

Within mail app on my ipad only google mail will show as an active account, no in box etc for my MobileMe mail? I've set the account for MobileMe up the same on my iPhone and both google & MobileMe mail accounts sit happily next to each other on that device. Any ideas, clever people. Incidentally all other aspects of MobileMe work great on iPad.

Mail behavior

I've been experiencing some rather weird Mail behavior for the longest with the following issues, so i'm trying to finally resolve.
1)Drafts - i'm noticing that composed messages that autosave as drafts during composition remain in the drafts folder even after I send them, (unless I manually go into the drafts folder and delete them). I've noticed this across all 3 accounts i have configured in Mail (2 Gmail, one GoDaddy, all IMAP)
2) Sent items with larger attachments - i've noticed this mostly on my GoDaddy accounts, sent emails that contain larger attachments will kick back to me as Recovered Items, despite them being successfully sent to email recipients. Additionally these emails rarely copy over to my sent items folder, however if I send an email with no attachment those have no problem copying over.
I always dismissed this as just some of the limitations of the Mail app, but perhaps there are some ways to fix these issues.
Any suggestions?

I always use Mozilla Firefox to access MobileMe. Suddenly I find out that I cannot attach files to my MobileMe mail. Please let me know how to fix this.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
