Strange Network Problem.

Hello,
I recently began using a new network and am now having a strange issue. When i connect to it, my internet works fine for about 5 minutes at a time, then seems to die. i am still connected, but can not load ANY websites. they just hang out. however, i know the network is still working, because a torrenting program is still downloading files, sometimes mail can still be recieved.
-I know the torrenting program isnt responsible for stealing my bandwidth because it becomes extremely slow also, <10Kbps.
-I have changed no other settings, and my wifi used to work perfectly before this network.
-the only way to correct the problem is to restart the computer. closing the browser (Safari or firefox both) does not work, neither does turning off airport.
-Iphone and roomates computer both are accessing the network fine.
i feel like there must be a problem with MY laptop itself, but cant find anything to check.
i havnt been able to find any useful or related topics on this or any forum, which is very unusual.

macstumbler is running on my ibook.
I used a Netgear modem/router
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000TZ8Z8/qid=1144763353/sr=8-1/ref=sr8_xs_ap_i1xgl/026-2137627-3477245
I had a Belkin router plus a non-branded ADSL modem/router.
I thought they were the problem. They weren't.
I have a horrible feeling there is a problem with Airport which Apple is keeping quiet about.

  • [SOLVED]MSI P31 Neo -mobo and strange network problems

I can't get network to work properly with this MSI-mobo's integrated lan chip.
When I boot from Arch install cd r8169-module is loaded and I can get ip via dhcp. Strange thing is that I can access http but not ftp. When I change transfermode to passive from links ftp works. But during Arch install setup I can't access the repos.
When I boot to Arch after install network doesn't work at all. Only thing I get is resolv-errors when I try to use wget or pacman. R8169 module is loaded at boot and Ifconfig shows that I have ip assigned to eth0.
I also tried with 3com's 3c509 network card that I had laying around and I have exactly same network problems with it as I have with r8169.
I am really going out of my mind with this. I have a laptop with via's network chip and I've never had any network problems with it and Arch. I haven't changed anything in my routers setup and I just tried and the networking on my laptop works just fine.
I also tried Ubuntu Hardy on this desktop machine and networking works ok. Ubuntu also loads the r8169 module as Arch does.

    UPDATE:
I tried booting with 2 RAM Chips and it works great! This seemed to be the problem.
The ram IS double sided which would explain it.
If you are wanting some more system specs, just ask and I will try and get the most I can.

If I could run 4gb it would be great but I cannot seem to find the SPD in bios. My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. v02.61 so it would be great if you could help me with that!
If all else fails I might either just settle with 2GB or buy some new RAM chips. Can anyone please tell me some Ram chips which would be able to give this mobo 4GB?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
My network was working fine yesterday but now whenever I plug a cable into the onboard network card, my computer starts having these strange flucuations...Every few seconds the CPU usage jumps from 0% to about 50% which causes the system to freeze for a second, making it a real pain to do anything.
Does anyone have any idea whats causing this?
    Thanks,

a memory can be incompatible but still work.
alot of people buy any memory they can and throw in and it may work.
but it can start crashing after installing some program or updating bios or drivers.
thats the reason i posted the memtest program.
worry about a crash....no reason for that as you self said memtest reported no errors prime95 no errors and doom3 worked good.
kingston uses many different chips on their memory and its those chips that is the problem.
one guy found out that on the specific memory he bought kingston used 3 different chips on.
only 1 of them worked good on k7n2.
so a 33% chans of success in getting a good module is considered bad.
so write down the numbers on the chips and take it with you to the store and compare it to the memories they got.

  • Strange network problem - it hangs.

    Hello,
I have experienced strange problem with network. I'm searching for solution (in Internet) for about a month.
    What is happening:
When I start browser and start to browsing, network sometimes hang - when I click on link nothing is happening - I have to refresh page two or three times to get it back. Sometimes it hangs on sending a request, and sometimes on downloading page content.
I'm using Kadu as my IM and it gives me communication errors every one or two minutes, very often it drops messages.
When I installing sometimes, or upgrading system pacman reporting download error - when I download 10 packages always about three have those errors, then I must download them again.
    Ping work's well.
    ping -c 5 google.com
    PING google.com (74.125.43.99) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from bw-in-f99.1e100.net (74.125.43.99): icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=46.2 ms

    64 bytes from bw-in-f99.1e100.net (74.125.43.99): icmp_seq=5 ttl=52 time=46.1 ms
    I have try this solution:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Con … ling_issue
    but this also won't work.
Problem appears on lan and on wlan (tested on two usb cards) connections - I have also tried connection by wicd and networkmanager - same problem.
Then I have borrow laptop from my friend, installed and configured Arch - and same problem.
I have buy some celeron (S478 2,66ghz) PC (for test) - and I have experienced same problem here.
I have tried opendns, google dns, and I have setted dns same as my router IP, same problem remains on dhcp.
On every system I have tried it on firefox, chrome and opera.
So, you can ask what is strange in this issue? Strange thing is that I have tried install Ubuntu, Fedora, Opensuse on those three machines and they don't have this error. Pages download normally, Kadu don't drops messages. Please don't tell me to use one of those distro I want to stay with Arch.
Please help me to solve this. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with configuring network.
    Best regards.
P.S sorry for my english, it is not my native language.

I think it's not the same, try doing 'lsmod | grep -i ipv6' and see if the module is still loaded, you can also check the output of ifconfig for inet6 addr to check if it is trying to use ipv6.
If the problem is not caused by trying to use ipv6 with a router that doesn't like that then I have no other ideas.

  • Strange Network Problems

    Here's the sequence of events:
    1) Boot laptop - swap fails
    2) Can't do swapon, must do mkswap and then swapon
    3) Reboot laptop - swap fine, hal fails to start
    4) Reboot everything starts fine
This sequence of events has happened twice in the process of me trying to fix my KNetworkManager.  It did work but now I'm getting "No network device found" however logging as root works fine.
Since the last boot since KNetworkManager worked properly, all I did was add my user to the storage group and install totem-xine.
Here's my daemons if it matters:
syslog-ng ipw3945d network netfs crond hal acpid powersaved portmap fam alsa dhcdbd networkmanager kdm
    Any thoughts?

Ok.  I figured out the KNetworkManager problem.  I somehow knocked myself out of the users group.
If anyone has any suggestions as to why the other swap and hal problems are occurring though it would be greatly appreciated.

  • More strange network problems

For what its worth I bought a new dual core iMac with (serial W860649YU2N with 1GB and 10.4.4) on Friday, did a migration from a working G4 mini. Everthhing worked fine except could not access a known good network either via ethernet or Airport reliably. At times the Airport conenction would work but very slow and saw some ethernet traffic via the Network utility but lots of errors.
I checked out some of the postings here and saw it was a common problem and then spent an hour on Applecare chat without success. I then did a complete re-install from the 10.4.4 DVDs that came with it and presto Airport was working perfectly but still no ethernet. Next I upgraded to 10.4.6 and now both interfaces appear to work perfectly. I think it was some bad configuration that came from the mini via the migration program. Hope my experience helps others.

  • Strange network problem!!! Please Help!!!!

I'm trying to copy some files from my PC to my MBP on my wired home network, the problem is that it is very slow. So then I looked at the activity monitor and saw that the network flow is not contant, it keeps dropping all the time, like I have 100% peaks and then 0%. This is also happening on my wireless network. My using MacOSX 10.4.8 and Windows Vista RC1 on the PC. When I try to ping the PC verything is fine 0% of packet loss. What could be wrong???

Vista RC1 is only one notch up from beta.
I think they're up to RC3...which is a huge difference.
I would personally not put too many important files on a PC running RC1. Also, that vista-version may or may not have something to do with network anomalies.

  • Odd Network Problem

    Hi,
I have a strange network problem, can anybody help?
    Basic configuration
I have three networks 10.190.0.0, 10.192.0.0 and 10.193.0.0 joined by a single server running Solaris 11 B64a with a dual port intel card and onboard intel card (e1000g0/g1/g2) each port is plugged into the gigabit port of a seperate Dell powerconnect switch.
they have ip addresses of 10.190.0.2, 10.192.0.1 and 10.193.0.1
The problem. I have connected from a remote machine through a solaris router machine on the 10.190.0.0 network to a computer on the 10.192.0.0 network (Beyond a switch).
    The terminal works fine!
if I ping the 10.190.0.1 which is the other router beyond the box with the three network interfaces packets are not seen by the pinging box. However, if I snoop the interface on the three interface router I see both the ICMP echo requests and replies.
After a considerable length of time 10-30 seconds, a load of the packets suddenly appear on the pinging machine and then continue normally.
    I would like to understand:
    a) where were the packets during the time between the snoop seeing them leave and them arriving at the destination?
    b) why does the terminal not suffer any delays?
We are suffering with a lot of strange network issues at this new site and I am trying to figure out if its the new dell switches, the solaris network stack or something else entirely!
Anybody got any idea whats going on?
    Please Help I am baffled.

It may just be the pinging machine has received the packets, but it will not display them on screen until it has found a name for the remote IP address (or until it times out waiting for one).
Do you get the same behavior with 'ping -n' ?

  • Strange network prob setting up WRK54G

    Hi,
I have spent an afternoon setting up a WRK54G (not WRT) router and have come across a very strange networking problem. I am using the router to setup a small network in the office off one of the LAN points. I connected the router up and set it up with a static IP address and gateway for the company LAN so setup looked like (Office LAN socket - WRK54G - PC). Once done the internet connectivity using a pc connected to the router via cable was very slow . I replaced the router with a switch (simple 4 port netgear switch) just to get through the day and set my PC back up to the static IP. Later that day I tried to set up the router again and forgot to remove the switch so the setup was (Office LAN socket - switch - WRK54G - PC). To my surprise the whole thing worked. When cleaning up the cables I noticed the switch was still in the chain so I removed it and the same problem of slow speed and packet loss came back.
    Any ideas????
Can the WRK54G only take an internet connection from cable or DSL modem? Should there be a problem due to it connecting to a o a LAN?

I have similar settings as yours and it works fine for me.
I guess the dns or gateway is creating porblem for you. I have hardware firewall installed in our company so the lan ip of the firewall becomes geteway for me. so if I set up static ip for the router and give the gateway as the lan ip of the firewall plus the DNS of the ISP it works great.

  • Strange networking/NFS problem

But on the server, I see nothing in dmesg. But, I do see this:
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0E:0C:72:83:51

The LAN is a GigaBit lan, on the server:
00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp.|82547EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (e1000)
    on the client:
00:0a.0 Bridge: nVidia Corp.|Ethernet controller (forcedeth)
The entry in rc.conf for the network looks like this:
    client:
    eth0="eth0 192.168.1.102 netmask 255.255.0.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
    server:
    eth0="eth0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.0.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
Is this an NFS problem or a networking problem??
    Thanks.

netmask should be 255.255.255.0 according to your broadcast
y should also have a look at network-components before your server also an easy one would be to change the cable
once our database was instable due to a cable-problem (was fine for 6 months before)

  • Strange wifi problem on a brand-new MacBook Pro

Hey there, I'm new here. Desperation has got the better of me, and I hope I can get some advice.
So, last sunday I bought a brand new 13" MacBookPro with 2.8g i7 processor and 10.7.2 OS (I can't update to 10.7.4 because System Update tells me the download has been tampered with or corrupted after I waited 2 hours for it to finish, but I'm trying a direct download from the website). Here's the exact product: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MD314LL-13-3-Inch-VERSION/dp/B005CWIZ4O/ref= sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340301247&sr=8-5&keywords=macbook+pro+13
Everything is all perfect except for a strange wifi problem. Note that the wifi does not turn-on or off, it doesn't disconnect after 'sleep', it doesn't get less speed, it doesn't constantly leave a preferred connection (once I chose my home wifi it always connects to it no problem). The wifi bar is always full. What is wrong is that the internet is kinda 'glitchy'. The best metaphor I can think of is that it's like a car that has to be pushed down the road before the engine can start. Please, bear with me because this is kinda hard to explain and I'm not good at tech lingos.
One of the symptoms is browsing can get really slow and inconsistent, almost as if the wifi gets turned off in the middle of browsing. For example: if I look something up on Google and then open 5 new tabs, probably only 2 or 3 of those tabs will eventually load while the other two will not get past the long 'http:.......google.....etc etc' address and will eventually show one of those 'error loading page because there's no Internet connection' notice. This happens a lot. Sometimes I have to refresh/retry loading a page a couple of times before it finally loads, then usually everything will get back to normal and I will be able to open multiple tabs with no problem, but in a couple of minutes I would try to open another site and the problem will start again.
So I tried to see how it does with downloading using iGetter. Fortunately I also have a Macbook (white-plastic casing one) and my brother has an old 2006 MacbookPro so I can compare. With those two older Apples iGetter starts receiving data in less than 8 seconds after I click Start, while my brand-new Macbook Pro can take up to 15-20 seconds, sometimes it doesn't even start at all and I have to re-click the start button. But once the download actually starts (on my new MacBook Pro), it downloads like normal, it doesn't stop and the speed is also as good as I can get. Strange huh? Hence, like a car that has to be pushed before the engine starts.
I also tried 'speed testing' from a website with all 3 laptops. On my old MacBook and my brother's MacBook pro, once I click 'begin test' it takes only a couple of seconds of 'ping' before the download/upload speed measurements start, but with my new MacBook Pro (just like with iGetter) it takes up to almost a minute before the measurements start, sometimes it won't start at all and I have to re-start the test.
Well, thanks for reading. And hope you can help me shed some light into this. Because it is really preventing me from really enjoying my new MacBook Pro. And if this is most likely a hardware problem, I'd better get back to the store and try to get it replace or something while it's only been 5 days. *cheers*

Hey guys.. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I bought the MacBook in Indonesia where there are no such thing as an AppleCare. The only option is to leave the Apple product to one of the 'Authorized Apple care centre' and have whoever do whatever to it without guarantee of success. As for returning it and getting a brand new one, I also don't know if there is such a deal here, but that's actually a good idea, will try to go to the store tomorrow. Although, I'm worried that the problem might be with OSX Lion or something and getting a new one won't help.
mark75090, I've tried resetting the router when I first noticed te problem, didn't work though. I've checked my new MacBook's wi-fi (option+click wifi bar) and it says 'PHY Mode: 802.11g', so does my MacBook and the old MacBook Pro. I don't know what those mean though, and I don't know whether or not my router is an N., can you tell me more please.. I have tried with the other two turned off, and only the new MacBook using the wi-fi but the problem persists. I have also tried connecting directly to the router, but as I described, the problem is too subtle for me to notice the difference.
Also, if I create a brand new Wi-Fi connection in network preferences and connect to my router through the new Wi-Fi profile, the problem seems to be gone for an hour or so, then it always comes back though. I have also just finally installed 10.7.4, but it doesn't help either.

After a Installation from Windows 8.1/windows 7 everything works fine. For example  Install updates and Software. If I connect the first time a remotefx card i can use RDP as well. But if i restart the host I get the mentioned error. What can I do. These

Also strange is if i start the vm without a remotefx card it works fine again. Only session with a Remotefx card aren't possible anymore.
Is there a bug or something. I tried it many times with the same error.
    Maybe someone can help me.

    Hi Tobi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For a workaround, please try to perform the two steps.
    1. Do NOT enable RDP 8 on the Windows 7 SP1 VM.  You should install RDP 8 and update the ICs though.
    2. Change the connection setting on the client from "Automatically detect" to "LAN"
Please check again below thread for information.
    a. "The remote session was disconnected
because there were network problems during the licensing protocol" after enabling RemoteFX Windows 8 VM
    (Please recheck answer by “dgeddes”)
    b. "The remote session
was disconnected because there were network problems during the licensing protocol" After Installing RemoteFX
    Hope it helps!

  • Very Strange Internet Problems

I own a MacBook Pro 15.4 Inch that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently upgraded to Leopard and have all the latest updates. I am from the US, and when I am home my internet works fine. However, I am on travel to Seoul, South Korea right now and am having a very strange internet problem.
As far as I can tell, the URLs that I type in to my browser are, sparodially, not translated correctly into the webpages that they are supposed to represent. This problem is probably effective 75% of the time, and the rest of the time my internet works roughly correctly. For instance, when I enter http://www.google.com, instead of being taken to the Google homepage, I am taking to the homepage of Jammin Beats DJ Service, an obscure website about a company in northern Pennsylvania. The actual URL of this website is http://www.jamminbeats.com, but when my internet is malfunctioning, 'jamminbeats' is for all intensive purposes replaced by 'google' (that is, it applies not only to the main page, but to sub pages, so "http://www.google.com/weddings" takes you to "http://www.jamminbeats.com/weddings" and etc). For most other webpages, one of two things happens. Either I am taken to the correct page but it is displayed without any images or frames (just the html text and links), or I am taken to a blank page with the header "Under Construction", which I assume is the default for a page that doesn't exist. This is why it seems as though the URLs are simply being interpretted erroneously.
This problem occurs when connecting both to the wireless and the wired internet at my hotel, and it occurs on both Safari and Firefox, so it is not a connection-specific or browser-specific problem. It may be a problem with the hotel's internet, and as of yet I have not had a chance to test the computer at another location. However, a colleague using an IBM computer has had no problems, and I am currently on a Samsung machine in the business center of the hotel and it is working correctly as well. I have searched extensively online for a similar problem but have come up empty handed, and more than anything, I am confused about what might be causing this problem. The strangest thing is that a fraction of the time, the internet functions normally, but it is usually roughly 15 minutes out of every hour, and eventually I am inevitably taken back to Jammin Beats.
I am a computer science graduate but I still have no idea what would cause this problem. At first I thought it might be a hacker, but if it is, he or she has been at it consistently for 3 days now, and only seems to be targeting my computer. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated, as I have been forced to resort to the hotel's business center for checking email, doing work, etc. Thanks in advance.

I did consider that, as I was in Beijing last week and there are a number of censored sites. However, in Korea I have had problems with very basic sites like facebook, wall street journal, google, yahoo, Korean google, my hotel's webpage, etc. Further, I have successfully gotten all of these sites to load seemingly at random, and can access them without problems on other computers. The only disconnect seems to be between my MBP and the internet, not between Korean internet and the web. I have toyed around with the network settings, and although sometimes after switching from "Automatic" to a fixed connection I get some sites to work, it usually only lasts a short time and eventually the same sites stop working. I reset my cache regularly to make sure I'm not getting sent to cached sites, but this also doesn't help. Further, my Apple Mail, Skype and AIM accounts jump between being connected and disconnected randomly as well. Again, this is isolated to my own computer, which is why I'm so confused.

  • TMQFORWARD dies when network problems occur

    Hi
I have two Tux 6.5 (patchlev 317) domains A, B interconnected through a WAN. The
two domains communicate with a disk-based queue which resides on domain A and
TMQFORWARD server forwards the messages to a service of domain B. These messages
just log a few things in a database of domain B.
Sometimes during the day there are network problems on the WAN which give errors
like the following in the ULOG of domain A:

This problem does not happen in all cases I have network problems between the
two domains. Sometimes I have seen TMQFORWARD dying and then restarting during
the day possibly because of these network problems. When this was the case, domain
    A was shutdown perfectly well.
Can anyone explain all these? Why would TMQFORWARD die when network problems occur?
Has anyone met such strange situations with TMQFORWARD?
    Many thanks

  • Xserve en0 network problem

I have an unusual network problem which I need to sort.
I have Intel and G5 Xserves which don't appear to like each other on the network switch they are both connected to. This is an HP ProCurve 1810G
If I reboot the Intel Xserve when the G5 box is running the WAN ethernet port (en0) on the former will not work. The LAN en1 port continues to work fine. The Xserve G5 needs to be removed from the switch or shutdown before the Intel Xserve en0 port will work again. If I connect the Xserve G5 to a simple Netgear 1Gbit router which in turn is connected to the 1810G all is fine and dandy but this is not a viable longterm solution. There is also a G5, two G4 towers & a Cisco firewall appliance connected to the 1810G but none of these appear to be causing a problem.
The Intel Xserve provides NAT/VPN services for the LAN and the Xserve G5 is the mail server so they both must play together nicely on the 1810G switch! The 1810G is connected to an ADVA Etherjack demarcation device which is the portal to a fibre optic leased line.
Just to confirm there are no IP/DNS clashes with the 2 Xserves and the Intel Xserve still has the problem with LOM disabled.
Very strange problem I know so any suggestions on how to solve this issue would be appreciated.

    This is normal.
Since you're running a hardware RAID card, the system can't actually see the physical drives at all.
All it sees is the RAID volumes presented by the RAID card - it doesn't know whether there's one, two or ten drives behind that, or whether they're mirrored, striped, parity, etc., etc.
Therefore it cannot collect the SMART data (the basis of the pre-failure warnings) and it doesn't know if the physical drives are OK or not (the hardware RAID card masks all that data from the OS).
As a result you need to use the megaraid utility to manage the physical drives' status.
