Strange network standstill SG-300

hi all
we have a production network that uses five SG300 switches that functions brilliantly most of the time. four of our switches run in layer 2 mode and the last switch runs in layer 3 as it is used to route our 7 vlans as well as routing traffic between our two gateways. the switches use the original firmware that shipped with the devices (v1 device) and will be upgraded within the next week.
the problem that we have is that the network seems to stop routing for all of the hosts after a given time. the only way to fix this issue usually is to reboot the main layer 3 switch. the main layer 3 uses a default route to one of the gateways and a return route has been applied in the gateway. the only thing i can think is that somewhere one of the devices routing tables become full and the network stops responding.
has anyone seen this before with the 300 series?

More people (including me) reported what is probably exact the same issue.
In my case the network is then so unbelievable slow that I needed to reboot the switch. I have recently updated all our switches to the latest firmware. We need to wait and see if that MAC Address issue caused it and is now solved.

  • Strange network prob setting up WRK54G

    Hi,
I have spent an afternoon setting up a WRK54G (not WRT) router and have come across a very strange networking problem. I am using the router to setup a small network in the office off one of the LAN points. I connected the router up and set it up with a static IP address and gateway for the company LAN so setup looked like (Office LAN socket - WRK54G - PC). Once done the internet connectivity using a pc connected to the router via cable was very slow . I replaced the router with a switch (simple 4 port netgear switch) just to get through the day and set my PC back up to the static IP. Later that day I tried to set up the router again and forgot to remove the switch so the setup was (Office LAN socket - switch - WRK54G - PC). To my surprise the whole thing worked. When cleaning up the cables I noticed the switch was still in the chain so I removed it and the same problem of slow speed and packet loss came back.
    Any ideas????
Can the WRK54G only take an internet connection from cable or DSL modem? Should there be a problem due to it connecting to a o a LAN?

I have similar settings as yours and it works fine for me.
I guess the dns or gateway is creating porblem for you. I have hardware firewall installed in our company so the lan ip of the firewall becomes geteway for me. so if I set up static ip for the router and give the gateway as the lan ip of the firewall plus the DNS of the ISP it works great.

  • Really strange network issue that is specific to OS X 10.6.8

Really strange network issue that is specific to OS X 10.6.8 on both 2 iMacs and an older intel Mac Pro.
Any system running 10.6.8 is achieving on average 15 –20 mb a sec transfer rates regardless of drive speeds, cables, network activity etc.. I've spent some time removing any cable , drive speed, router issues to the point where one machine dual boots into both 10.6.8 and 10.6.5
The 10.6.5 system has network speeds of 60mb – 80mb p/sec transfer rates.
Our older 10.5.8 PPC mac gets 80mb and my 2011 Macbook Pro 10.7.2 hits 60mb – 80mb consistently as well.
Any idea what the cause is?
    Cheers

Since your other Mac running 10.5.8 is not affected, you know that your AirPort router is functioning correctly.
What changed on your Mac? This seems like a post for either the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard support area, or the support area for your model of Mac.
We normally handle questions about the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule in this area, but you can certainly wait to see if you receive a response here.

    Hi there,
My network was working fine yesterday but now whenever I plug a cable into the onboard network card, my computer starts having these strange flucuations...Every few seconds the CPU usage jumps from 0% to about 50% which causes the system to freeze for a second, making it a real pain to do anything.
Does anyone have any idea whats causing this?
    Thanks,

a memory can be incompatible but still work.
alot of people buy any memory they can and throw in and it may work.
but it can start crashing after installing some program or updating bios or drivers.
thats the reason i posted the memtest program.
worry about a crash....no reason for that as you self said memtest reported no errors prime95 no errors and doom3 worked good.
kingston uses many different chips on their memory and its those chips that is the problem.
one guy found out that on the specific memory he bought kingston used 3 different chips on.
only 1 of them worked good on k7n2.
so a 33% chans of success in getting a good module is considered bad.
so write down the numbers on the chips and take it with you to the store and compare it to the memories they got.

  • Server 2008 R2 Strange Network/Client Issues

    Hi All
I'm facing some strange things with a fairly recently deployed 2008 R2 DC machine.
It's a Dell R720 (16GB Ram dual socket).  The NIC is an Intel X540 10Gb adapter.  The network switch is a Netgear XS708E 10Gb 8-port, with 3 Win7 clients connected at 1Gb into the same switch.  The server runs AD, DNS, DHCP and file services.
Pretty simple, as it's a processing suite deployed at a remote location.
Network connectivity at the client end can be very patchy with disconnects and slowdowns in the file copy speed between client and server (<1mbs).  Sometimes the clients refuse to even connect, and
    show no network connection.
I am trying to track down the problem.  It's either something in the server eg DNS or a faulty switch.  If I plug my laptop into the Netgear switch it connects etc, so I'm not sure that's the problem.
The only other thing I can think of is that I had attempted to multi-home the server, which I subsequently found was not best practice.  I have since removed the second adapter, but maybe some detritus
    remains in DNS?
I will re-run the DNS config wizard to freshen that up and report back.
Does anyone else have some pointers for me?
    TIA

    Hi,
“Network connectivity at the client end can be very patchy with disconnects and slowdowns in the file copy speed between client and server (<1mbs).”
Could try test the copy speed between Win7?  Personal experience maybe your switch connection rate set up correct, or replace your cable as the crosswire then monitor the status.

  • Strange network issue

Suddenly within the past couple of days I am no longer able to have network access in anything including mail, ichat, terminal, and any other piece of software with the exception of web browsers. I have not seen something like this before and was wondering wether it would be a port block from campus internet or wether it is something local.
I ran a ping for a while to see what would happen...
    "ping www.apple.com
    PING www.apple.com.akadns.net (17.112.152.32): 56 data bytes
    ^C
    --- www.apple.com.akadns.net ping statistics ---
300 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss"
It seems that the ip address was fetched, but now what...?
However when looking for local machines there were good results returned...
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

You might like to also try some "traceroute" tests to see how far requests are getting.
If for instance you can browse to a site but you can't ping (or traceroute) to it I'd suspect that there is a proxy server between you and the outside world.
Alos, contact somebody that looks after the campus network to find out what changes they have made recently.

  • Strange networking question

I have two computers (they are called IOMS-design and Beast).  I'm trying to connect the two using shared variables and front panel binding.
When I set up the Beast as the server, it works fine.  Everything binds to the variables on Beast.
However, this is the opposite of what we want, so we tried to reverse it.  This is where the strangeness comes in.  IOMS-design can see everything on itself and the Beast, but the Beast can only see it's own contents, not IOMS-design's. I've attached two images to illustrate my problem.
I don't think it's strictly a Windows networking issue because the computers can see each other in the Networking window on Windows.  Also, like I said, it works with the data going one way, but not the other.
I think it's a LabVIEW configuration issue because of this.
FYI both computers are running Vista and LV8.6.0

  • Strange Network Problem.

    Hello,
I recently began using a new network and am now having a strange issue. When i connect to it, my internet works fine for about 5 minutes at a time, then seems to die. i am still connected, but can not load ANY websites. they just hang out. however, i know the network is still working, because a torrenting program is still downloading files, sometimes mail can still be recieved.
-I know the torrenting program isnt responsible for stealing my bandwidth because it becomes extremely slow also, <10Kbps.
-I have changed no other settings, and my wifi used to work perfectly before this network.
-the only way to correct the problem is to restart the computer. closing the browser (Safari or firefox both) does not work, neither does turning off airport.
-Iphone and roomates computer both are accessing the network fine.
i feel like there must be a problem with MY laptop itself, but cant find anything to check.
i havnt been able to find any useful or related topics on this or any forum, which is very unusual.

macstumbler is running on my ibook.
    I used a Netgear modem/router
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000TZ8Z8/qid=1144763353/sr=8-1/ref=sr8_xs_ap_i1xgl/026-2137627-3477245
    I had a Belkin router plus a non-branded ADSL modem/router.
I thought they were the problem. They weren't.
I have a horrible feeling there is a problem with Airport which Apple is keeping quiet about.

  • Strange Networking Issue with OES

Since moving our entire infrastructure from Netware to OES, I've been trying to figure out a very strange issue. We are a K-12 school system with a data center at the central offices and a single server at each school. The data center has the servers that run all the centralized stuff, including the Master replicas for [root], the DA's for SLP, etc. We noticed that sometimes a school's server will drop out of the SLP tables. When that happens, we also cannot SSH to the school's server from the central servers. We can SSH to it from any other machine on the same subnet as the central servers. The central servers can ping it, but no UDP/TCP traffic can pass between them (no web traffic, etc). We finally realized it only happens when the ISP that serves that school has a brief blip or outage of some sort. The only way we have found to get the servers talking again is to reboot the central servers.
    We have tried:
Restarting almost all services on central servers
    Stopping and restarting networking
Switching to runlevel 1 and then back
Stopping firewall and/or shutting it off completely
    Checking hosts.deny files
    Disabling virus scanner (McAfee Enterprise)
Changing vmware network drivers from E1000 (known issue with vSphere 5.1) to VMXNET3
All servers run on HP Proliant servers (blades at central office, towers at schools) running vSphere 5.1. Links between the central office and schools are all 100Mbps fiber via two different ISP (depending on the school's location). A restart of the central office server fixes it every time. I am out of ideas now and at a loss as to why this happens when a WAN link goes down. We thought it was just isolated to one ISP, but it was just that that particular ISP is not quite as reliable as the other. We had an extended power outage at a school served by another ISP over the weekend and saw the same issue with that server after power was restored.
Any ideas or suggestions at where else we should be looking? We also run ZCM 11 at each school and the central office. When this happens, those servers never lose connectivity with each other and with the OES servers on each end. The ZCM servers run on the same vSphere host as the OES servers.

To be clear, while i think this correlation is possible, I do not see any
possibility of causality in here unless your SSH client is somehow using
SLP to resolve the SSH server, which seems very unlikely. I'm not sure if
you're trying to state that SLP is the cause of the SSH stuff, but I do
    not think you are.

Hmmm........... so routing works, and the server is even responding to
requests made to it (presumably, or something else is), but SSH is not
responding, or something is preventing it from responding.

I'd get a LAN trace from both sides at the same time. At the very least,
run tcpdump as shown below on both the central office machine as well as
the remote machine to see how the packets differ when trying different
things. If you do a test and do not see output on both sides, do it again
writing it to a file and post somewhere for us to review. Note: since
it's an SSH problem I would either NOT SSH into the system, or I'd be sure
to limit the tcpdump capture/output to something specific to the
connection being tested. Tracing something over which you are sending the
tracing data is never fun since every packet picked up causes another
packet to be generated, to be picked up, to be generated.... ad infinitum.
To see tcpdump output with limited details on the screen:
    Code:
    sudo /usr/sbin/tcpdump -n -s 0 -i any -vv
To write tcpdump output to a file:
    Code:
    sudo /usr/sbin/tcpdump -n -s 0 -i any -w /tmp/problem-20140408.cap
While filtering when capturing is typically not desired, you can do it by
adding something like 'host 10.1.2.3' to the list of tcpdump parameters at
the end of either of those two commands. The reason filtering during
capturing is not desired is that you may miss something.... the SLP
traffic, DNS, ARP, ICMP error showing the exact problem, etc.
    Good luck.

  • Strange network problem - it hangs.

    Hello,
I have experienced strange problem with network. I'm searching for solution (in Internet) for about a month.
    What is happening:
When I start browser and start to browsing, network sometimes hang - when I click on link nothing is happening - I have to refresh page two or three times to get it back. Sometimes it hangs on sending a request, and sometimes on downloading page content.
I'm using Kadu as my IM and it gives me communication errors every one or two minutes, very often it drops messages.
When I installing sometimes, or upgrading system pacman reporting download error - when I download 10 packages always about three have those errors, then I must download them again.
    Ping work's well.
    ping -c 5 google.com
    PING google.com (74.125.43.99) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from bw-in-f99.1e100.net (74.125.43.99): icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=46.2 ms

    64 bytes from bw-in-f99.1e100.net (74.125.43.99): icmp_seq=5 ttl=52 time=46.1 ms
    I have try this solution:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Con … ling_issue
    but this also won't work.
Problem appears on lan and on wlan (tested on two usb cards) connections - I have also tried connection by wicd and networkmanager - same problem.
Then I have borrow laptop from my friend, installed and configured Arch - and same problem.
I have buy some celeron (S478 2,66ghz) PC (for test) - and I have experienced same problem here.
I have tried opendns, google dns, and I have setted dns same as my router IP, same problem remains on dhcp.
On every system I have tried it on firefox, chrome and opera.
So, you can ask what is strange in this issue? Strange thing is that I have tried install Ubuntu, Fedora, Opensuse on those three machines and they don't have this error. Pages download normally, Kadu don't drops messages. Please don't tell me to use one of those distro I want to stay with Arch.
Please help me to solve this. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with configuring network.
    Best regards.
P.S sorry for my english, it is not my native language.

I think it's not the same, try doing 'lsmod | grep -i ipv6' and see if the module is still loaded, you can also check the output of ifconfig for inet6 addr to check if it is trying to use ipv6.
If the problem is not caused by trying to use ipv6 with a router that doesn't like that then I have no other ideas.

  • [SOLVED]MSI P31 Neo -mobo and strange network problems

I can't get network to work properly with this MSI-mobo's integrated lan chip.
When I boot from Arch install cd r8169-module is loaded and I can get ip via dhcp. Strange thing is that I can access http but not ftp. When I change transfermode to passive from links ftp works. But during Arch install setup I can't access the repos.
When I boot to Arch after install network doesn't work at all. Only thing I get is resolv-errors when I try to use wget or pacman. R8169 module is loaded at boot and Ifconfig shows that I have ip assigned to eth0.
I also tried with 3com's 3c509 network card that I had laying around and I have exactly same network problems with it as I have with r8169.
I am really going out of my mind with this. I have a laptop with via's network chip and I've never had any network problems with it and Arch. I haven't changed anything in my routers setup and I just tried and the networking on my laptop works just fine.
I also tried Ubuntu Hardy on this desktop machine and networking works ok. Ubuntu also loads the r8169 module as Arch does.

    UPDATE:
I tried booting with 2 RAM Chips and it works great! This seemed to be the problem.
The ram IS double sided which would explain it.
If you are wanting some more system specs, just ask and I will try and get the most I can.

If I could run 4gb it would be great but I cannot seem to find the SPD in bios. My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. v02.61 so it would be great if you could help me with that!
If all else fails I might either just settle with 2GB or buy some new RAM chips. Can anyone please tell me some Ram chips which would be able to give this mobo 4GB?

  • Strange network performance when using Time Machine with APE External HD

    All -
I am still looking into a performance issue with TM and and an external HD on the APE.
Strangely the network activity changes from a more or less steady 200-400kb/sec to a pulsed 1-2Mb, and than a few seconds later back to 200-300kb.
I posted a few screenshots from the Activity Monitor here: http://gallery.mac.com/erwinhogeweg#100039
The RSSI is -32, and I have a 130Mb connection with the base station, but I am not even using 1% of this BW. The overall CPU load is about 40%, so it is completely mystery (to me) why this transfer rate is slow.
Is there anyone who can give some insight in this?
There is 107GB of data on my local HD. With about 2GB/hour, it will take 2 days to back this up to a n APE Time Machine drive...
    Kind Regards,
    Erwin

Do NOT use a USB hub with an APE...
I had two LaCie HDs, so I figure I connect them both with a USB hub. This was not a good idea. As soon as I removed the hub the network BW was at a steady 1-2Mb/s, with an occasional peak to 5Mb/s. Still way lower than the theoretical maximum, but hey, I guess you can't have it all.
    Thanks,
    Erwin

  • Strange network bandwidth management

    Hi,
I've noticed some strange behaviour of Remote Desktop Services.
I have remote Windows Server 2012 R2 running in data center. There is 100 Mb/s download / 100 Mb/s upload internet link tested with speedtest.net. I have also two laptops with Windows 8.1 in my office running on 25 Mb/s donwload / 3 Mb/s upload link. One
of the laptops has 1280 x 800 screen resolution and the second one has 2880 x 1620 pixels.
I tested the connection speed by downloading 2 GB file from Windows Server to my laptop. File was downloaded with 25 Mb/s speed as expected. So the connection is perfectly OK.
I've configured our application as RemoteApp on Windows Server and have been testing this environment on my laptops. Some modules of our application are "rendering intensive" - they change some big portion of screen 10 times per second.  And
    here the problem starts.
When I test RemoteApp only on my low resolution laptop all work great. RDP protocol utilizes about 1 Mb/s of bandwidth.
When I test application on my high resolution laptop RDP protocol utilizes about 5 Mb/s of bandwidth and application presents very low frame rate (1 frame per second maybe). I don't know why this happens. I have 20 Mb/s link and only 5 Mb/s is being used
    by RDP.
    And magic happens...
When I start my RemoteApp on both laptops frame rate is perfect on both of them! Windows Server is uploading 14 Mb/s (1 Mb/s to low resolution laptop and 13 Mb/s to high resolution one). It streams 6 Mb/s more to high resolution laptop than in "single
laptop" scenario! When I close or even minimize (!) application on low resolution laptop the frame rate on second laptop degrades. When the application is resumed, frame rate goes up.
The same behaviour is observed when I run RemoteApp on high resolution laptop only but I connect through RDP to my Windows Server and turn on session shadowing. I observe my laptop's session through shadowing and frame rate magically goes up.
It's strange that streaming RDP sessions to two laptops produces better experience than doing it only for one client. I'm able to reproduce this behaviour every day, every time in two locations with different internet service providers.
I turned off all magic fair sharing (disk, CPU, network) on Windows Server but without any success. The same about turning off UDP connections or connecting with and without RD Gateway. I think that there is some magic algorithm for resources management
that is causing it. I've been searching internet and testing different scenarios for week but without any luck.
Have anybody seen something like this? I would be very grateful for your help.

    Hi Wojciech,
Bandwidth consumption when using RemoteApp programs could increase and decrease, depending on the application and its usage, when compared to using a remote desktop. There are lot of factors which can be taken into considerations when measuring performance
for RemoteApp\Desktop. You can go through below article for detail as also there is RDP performance whitepaper to understand clearly.
RDS: Choosing between Delivering RemoteApps versus Full Desktops
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1366.rds-choosing-between-delivering-remoteapps-versus-full-desktops.aspx
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Very Strange Network Issue With Two Guests on 2012 R2 Hyper-V Failover Cluster

Hi all.  We're having a odd issue with two guests on our 2012 R2 failover cluster.
In a nutshell, if we shutdown a particular server (I'll call it Server A) another totally different server (Server B) on the same node loses it's network connectivity to the domain. If we start server A back up, network connectivity returns on server B.
At first I thought server A might be running a service that was somehow linked to server B, so I decided to disable server A's NIC.  Interestingly, that had no affect on server B's connectivity.
The next step I tried was pausing server A and again, no adverse affect on server B's connectivity.
Next step was to live migrate server A to another node.  This action did
cause server B to lose its network connection.
One other clue is that if I ping server B from either of the Hyper-V hosts in the cluster, I never lose network connection to server B.
So I would suspect this is some network issue on the cluster, but I'm kind of at a loss where to go from here.
Has anyone seen this behavior before or does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions I can try?
    Thanks!
    George Moore

    Hi Sir,
I'v never seen this before .
    >>Next step was to live migrate server A to another node.  This action did
cause server B to lose its network connection.
They are connecting to same virtual switch ?
First please run cluster validation to check if there is any error .
If it is ok , please try the following items for troubleshooting :
    1. shutdown  serverA   serverB
    2. then add another virtual NIC for serverB
    3. start server B  check if the issue happens to both "old" and "new" virtual NIC .
In addition , you can live migrate both A and B to another node , then try to live migrate A to the original node .
If the issue persists , I would suggest you to remove that virtual switch on both nodes then re-create them .
    Best Regards,
    Elton Ji

  • Strange network freezes when wrong time is set (with transmission-gtk)

    Hi!
After transmission-gtk running for a while, the network doesn't work any more, not even the connection to the router. Even after closing transmission-gtk, the problem persists until I disconnect from the network (using wicd / wpa atm) - or wicd freezes and refuses to start again. Trying to use ifconfig / iwconfig makes the terminal freeze (not recovering with ctrl+c), other tty/vty's still work. System won't shutdown / reboot after this happens, the tty that gave the command just freezes.
Not sure where to start here... can't use iwconfig/ifconfig... can't look up stuff online while I'm on the machine trying to work this out... any hints?
    Thanks!

I have had problems where my connection would drop "coincidently" while downloading torrents. I use ipblock to block unwanted ip addresses, force encryption both ways, and use tcpkill (pretty sure it is in the "dsniff" package) to block foreign ports that seem suspicious to me. Also, I have noticed that if there is a lot of connections my network will almost halt and if I limit the connected number of connections per torrent after the swarm gets going then it will first drop peers instead of seeds so it does not really seem to effect speed either. I do not use transmission so I do not know all the particulars there ( using deluge) but there should be similar settings for encryption as well. If doing a lot of downloads I also reset my router (unplug it) for about 5 minutes when I am done and reboot just to be sure. If you think that your troubles may be caused by your isp or an anti-p2p group I would definitely give the above a shot.
