  • Noise comming from the right side of my MBP

Hi, i have a new 2012 regular 15" mbp. I had the Retina at first, it was completely silent, but this macbook i can hear, especially the right side. Both fans are running at idle 2000RPM. Is this the 7200RPM hard drive making noise? Its not terribly loud, but compared to the Retina its definitely audible.
    Thanks in advance.

  • My new MacBook pro 15'' is making a noise from the right side. What could the problem be?

    Hi
My New MacBook pro 15'' 2011 is making a sound from the right side of it. It sounds like it is the HDD that is making the sound. How can i fix it?

Return it or take it in for service.    It may be you got a drive that was a lemon.

  • My macbook pro is probably only 2 months old and there is a buzzing/grinding noise coming from the left side of the laptop every time I open it.  It may buzz 5 times in a span of 30 seconds then not make the noise the remaining time that it is open.

Sounds like the disk in your MBP is accessing data on wake up
If you are still concerned you can take it into the Apple Store where they can hear it to be sure

  • The bookmark tab went from the right side to the left side. I did not change that. what cause the change from the right side to the left side?

The bookmark tab went from the right side to the left side. I did not change that. what cause the change from the right side to the left side? Also the the Mozilla Firefox tab on the upper left hand corner changed.

    Hey jimmiet,
There were some recent ui changes around the downloads manager. What version where you on before? Anyway, you can customize things in Firefox really easily. Take a look at [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars|this article on customizing Firefox]] for details. Should be a piece of cake to move the bookmarks button.
As for the color of the button, you might be in [[Private Browsing - Browse the web without saving information about the sites you visit|Private Browsing]] mode. That changes the color of the button from orange to a purplish color.

  • Why are some text missing from the right side of a page I send to my printer?  Thanks

Why is some of the text missing on the right side of a page I send to my printer?

I came across something similar recently where it printed the left hand side only!
If I want to print an email, instead of File > Print  ( does not print properly ) I click on the print icon on my email webpage ( do not use applemail and access gmail direct) which then takes me to print preview showing the complete email which prints ok.
Some webpages ( File>Print) do not print properly and some do. Those that do not generally have their own printer icon (path) that needs to be clicked on.
Maybe something to do with encryption but don't know.
Hope this helps in some way.

  • I sthere any way to complete uninstall the "manage search bar" option from the right side?

I found this option very annoying. I want to uninstall the "manage search bar"utility completely from my Firefox.

My version of Firefox Mozilla, 3.6.3, for Windows XP SP2, shows on the "Navigational Toolbar", back and forward buttons, reload, cancel and home buttons, followed by the address bar, where you can writer web addresses, and on the right side, I have this utility, "Manage Search Engines", that looks like another address bar. I want to uninstall it completely. I don't see how I can do that. I mean, keep all the buttons intact, the address bar intact, and get rid of this tool. Thanks again.

  • Bookmarks toolbar changed from the right side of the drop-down menu to the left. How can I change it back on Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac?

I just updated to Firefox 4.0.1. Some changes I don't like, especially that the Bookmarks toolbar opens to the left of the drop-down menu instead of the right. How can I change it?

You may have bookmarks that have long title. Firefox 4 shows the full text of the bookmark name, so if it doesn't fit with opening to the right side the Firefox will open to the left side. You can scroll through the list and make the bookmarks with a long name shorter.

  • Periodic metalic clicks from the right side of MPB

I started to get strange metalic clicks which appear periodically every 45 secs or so from right side of my 2 days old MBP. It is not the harddrive I'm sure which is on the left side but either the fan on the right or the DVD drive (keeps clicking when there no DVD inside too). It becomes more frequent when there is heavy CPU activity and seems to appear in conjunction with changes to right fan activity. Is this any normal?
Here is a recording of the clickings:

You are hearing the Sudden Motion Sensor parking your hard drive heads. If this happens only when you are moving the computer while it runs, it's normal and exactly what's supposed to happen. If it happens regularly while the computer is sitting still, that's an indication that all is not well, and you chould have it checked out under your warranty.

  • Last night, a strange noise emitting from the 3G, possibly overheating?

last night, i was using my iPhone pretty much, texting and internet, and i did test out the video playback as well. btw i was using Atomic web browser from the app store for the internet browsing. and about a few minutes later the phone got kinda hot and out came a single high-pitched 'beeeep' sound for about 1 to 2 seconds. it wasn't the random email notification as other posts have mentioned. possibly the battery? cause it sure sounded like it was coming from the phone. thanks. just wondering what this sound is.

If you have to put your ear to the case to hear it, it's probably just the normal sound of the hard drive working. If a hard drive is failing, it will make AWFUL noises. It will grind or crunch or squeal. If you aren't hearing terrible noises like that, you may be hearing just the sound of the drive working as it should.
It won't have to work quite as hard if you upgrade the RAM with a 512 MB RAM module. With only 256 MB of RAM, the hard drive will be working a lot because it is used for virtual memory when the hard drive runs short on actual RAM.
Is it possible that these are normal hard drive sounds that you just never noticed before?
I would recommend some hard drive maintenance, but since you just entirely reformatted the drive, that shouldn't be necessary. You did a reformat and install and then a Restore of the software, erasing the iBook's hard drive and starting from scratch?

  • When I turn my MBP on, it makes a whirring and grinding sound for a few seconds (5 secs?) and then boots up normally.  The sound appears to come from the right side, perhaps near/under the button.

The MBP makes no noise after this.  I can't recall ever dropping it.
I purchased it in Jan 2011 (so I'm guessing it's a 2010 model?  No idea.  Has black keys & new, slim charger!)
Happens when I've turned it off and on & when I restart.
What do you think the problem is most likely to be?
I've had it over a year now so my Apple warranty is already up.  I got it from John Lewis though, who give you 2 years warranty.
Both John Lewis & Apple stores are 1-2 hours away from where I live now.
    Should I  -
    a) visit the Genius bar and hope they can fix it there and then? What does Genius tend to cost & can it be quick?
    b) take back to John Lewis (and I guess they'll fix it for free under warranty but take a zillion years!)
    c) find a repair shop where I live, who will look at it quicker but may also cost and arm and a leg?
    d) any other suggetions?  Maybe never turn the laptop off again ;-)
Thanks in advance for any help/advice/tips/solutions!
    Carly.

    OK - more details/info now.
When I use terminal and type this:
    drutil eject
I believe the DVD drives makes the odd noise I heard when I booted the laptop up.
    Any thoughts?
I'm guessing that means my fan/hardrive are actually OK then, and it's probably the mechanism in the DVD drive that is causing problems?
I'm almost certain there's no DVD stuck in there?

  • How do I remove items from the right side of the menu bar in Lion?  I'm speaking of old software items that I have deleted but still have an icon there.  Holding the "Command" key and dragging them out doesn't work.

I have icons left over from trial software I have deleted in my menu bar and can't get rid of them.  I've tried dragging them out while holding down the "Command" or "Control" keys but that didn't work.

  • In my macbook pro retina display 15"l there is a constant clicking noise, coming from the left side of the computer. Any ideas ?

It goes on constantly while the computer i s on, with like a 2 second delay, and to be honest it's driving me mad. I may just end up taking it in, but if I have to get it replaced I dont want to lose all my files and programs.

You should have a backup in the first place. If you don't, buy an external drive (they're inexpensive these days) and make a Time Machine or a clone backup (using Carbon Copy Cloner).
Then take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and let them diagnose the computer. See if they can isolate what may possibly be making the 'clicking' sound.
