Strange noise from my speakers ... help ...

I recently installed several new hardware components to my system. These include: an Antec 480 watt PS , Corsair TwinX1024 3200C2Pro memory, and and MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 videocard.
Now ... here`s my problem ... when I am on a webpage , this one for example , and I use my Scroll Wheel on my mouse to scroll up or down , I get a strange chirping sound coming from my speaker. Not very loud , but enough to annoy. Also , when I am playing a certain game I enjoy , I get a loud humming noise similar to what I described through my my speakers. Similar to what you used to hear from old car radio speakers when you revved the engine.
At first I thought it may have been interference from my VidCards fans going into my Soundcard. So I dropped the soundcard to the lowest PCI slot (and farthest from the vidcard) available. Still the noise persists.
Any ideas out there what this might be , and how can I cure it ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My System : MSI MS-6590 mobo (KT6 Delta) , 100G Westrn Digital HDD , Corsair TwinX1024 3200C2Pro memory , MSI FX5950 Ultra Videocard VTD-265 , SoundBlaster Audigy Gamer Soundcard , Antec True Blue 480 Watt PS

man o man o man !!!!!  I am soooooooooooo stoked !!!!! That took care of it !!!  Kurtman I could kiss you   lol     I haven`t checked the games that I was having issues with so stay tuned for further results ... man I really appreciate what you have shown me so far. Lemme tell ya what else I have tried ..... I purchased an additional surge protector (for my Tower and Monitor only) and plugged it into a totally seperate outlet    GOTTA LOVE extension cords ! Didn`t change anything

MSI z77A-G43 C1E enabled and strange noise from cpu area ? What will be the problem? When I disabled it there is no sound. BUt when I enabled it there is a strange noise while moving my mouse cursor or when there is some CPU activity, sounds like a squeeking or scratching, a bit like hdd activity, but barely noticeable. It looks like it's coming from the area around the cpu socket, must be something on the motherboard. is there a solution other than just disabling it? I want to be able to make C1E enable but cant bare this noise so I have to turn it of....

Sound like some electrical sound produced by current going through that area.

  • Strange noise from the back of my iPad

    Hi!
I've had my iPad 4 since Christmas and its always made a strange noise from the back when releasing pressure. This happens when holding the iPad in landscape mode with home button to the right and since that's my favorite way to hold it it happens all the time.
Apple support could not verify over the phone if this was normal or not, should I take it to them for a look? I suspect something not being properly glued inside but I don't have a clue if its serious or not. Is it worth opening up and having it fixed?

    Hi King Penguin.
Many thanks for your quick response
I've swapped sockets and it still happens and I've tried the plug from my I phone as well and no change. I've spent the last hour or so searching the forums and come across so many conflicting theory's included responses from apple where people have been told its normal, the general consensus seems that it's an earthing problem with the supplied adapters, i.e no earth connection in the supplied adapter. I'm no electrician however but seems strange to me that apple know of this and are quite happy to to nothing about it. I'm going back to the apple store this week to discuss it with them and see what they say.

  • "Squelchy" noise from external speakers plugged into headphone jack

I get a strange, warmly, high pitched static continuous "squelchy" noise from my external powered speakers when I have them plugged in via cable to the headphone jack of my iPad (3rd gen). The noise occurs only with the iPad - the noise is not present with other devices, such as my iPhone 4S, older iPhone 3G, or my Samsung Galaxy or Toshiba Thriven (both Android devices). Also, the noise is present only with external speakers - never with headphones. Doesn't happen with Bluetooth audio.
The pitch of the squelchy noise seems to be related to how much load the iPad processor is under, though I can't say for sure. I honestly have no idea why it's making this noise. I thought it might be a ground loop issue which occurred only when I had external powered speakers plugged in while the iPad was also plugged in, but the noise happens when the iPad is running on battery, as well.
Does anyone have any ideas how I might get rid of this noise?

I don't know if this could be your problem, but...
On some systems the BIOS will sometimes disable the on-board audio controller at startup if it doesn't detect anything connected to the inputs or outputs (older HP computers did this to me ).  You usually need to enter the BIOS and permanently enable the On-board Audio by changing the setting from 'Auto Detect' to 'Enabled'.
    Hope that helps.

  • Mac Mini making strange noises through external speakers

I am experiencing a strange problem with my mac mini and my external speakers. I have two different sets of speakers and the problem occurs with both so I don't think its the speakers as I have never had any problems with them on my other computers. The Mini will make strange gurgling and hissing noises through the speakers at seemingly idle cpu times. Under heavy loads I get the gurgle occasionally but it seems more prevalent at idle times. After playing around with it I have noticed a direct correlation with my wireless connection and the noise. If the mini drops the network, which it does from time to time, I get the noises but if I disable airport then they stop. Have any other mini users experienced this? It's harmless but rather annoying because my mini is set up in my dorm room and we often have music playing and when I go to sleep I hear these weird noises.
Thanks for the feedback in advance.

The Airport sub-system in the mini is identical to any other Airport Extreme equipped Mac, with the addition of a riser board on which the AE card is mounted, and which no other Mac has.
If the mini suffered a design flaw in Airport implementation, then everyone would be hearing the same sound. Neither AE-eqipped minis I've got in my system exhibit any sign of it.
RF interference can get into an audio system in a number of ways - most commonly by direct injection (ie, something in the audio circuit such as a circuit board track or speaker wire) acting as an antenna and picking up an unwanted signal, or by FR breakthrough into the power circuit - usually through the transformer or rectifiers. In the first instance, a change in channel would change the transmission frequency and thus the sensitivity of the component to the signal (thus usually making it stop altogether) and in the second, would usually require a transmission power of significantly higher level than the few milliwatts used by Airport.
There are other possible causes too of course. Even a cordless phone in the same vicinity is capable of generating RF interference - but then stories of people listening to radio stations breaking through into phone lines, and even when opening oven doors are legion - and often true.
In the case of an Airport network, where the user has control over transmission power levels and frequency, a bit of tinkering with the two can resolve many FR interference issues. Incidentally, if you're interested (given your general technical background) a number of very informative sources on RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) are published for and by the amateur radio fraternity.

  • Strange noise from my macbook pro 13" retina

    Hi everyone,
I got a problem with my new macbook pro retina 13"... I bought it last week and I already got problems with it!
When I'm using it, I can hear sometimes strange noises. I made a video showing from where the sound is from and you can hear this noise.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3f7blKARMY
The strangest thing is that the only parts in this computer that are moving are the fans and it doesn't seem to be the fans causing this sound (it would be more regular).
    Thanks for helping me!

In light of the age of the MBP, I suggest you pack it up and go to the Apple store and return/exchange it for a new one.  Problem solved!
    Ciao.

  • Popping noise from the speakers.

Today is the first time I've noticed it but also the first time I've used the machine in a truely quiet enviroment. After turning it on I hear slight popping sounds come from the speakers. Mostly the left speaker but a few times the right. Keep in mind there is NO audio playing while it does this.
Maybe its a heat up issue of some sort because while I logged in and typed this it seems to have stopped.
    Anyone else have this happen?

I wanted to contribute to this topic.
I have had my MacBook Pro for 3 months now without any negatice issues of any sort. This is the best, most incredable machine I have ever owned. The other day, after installing a bunch of Widgets, .Mac Podcast pack for Garage Band, and other downloads such as custom icon sets and backgrounds, I noticed that a popping sound began to be emitted out of the left side of my MBP. This sound occurs aproxiamtly ever 20 to 30 seconds. I have rebooted, shut down and restarted, and cleared the cache, etc. many times in the last 3 days with no success at quieting the popping sound.
The only thing that changed on my end was the first time use of Garage Band, and the before mentioned added software to my MBP. Does anyone else who has this problem use that software or modifications?
Is it possible that it is simply a software malfunction causing the sound to be emitted?
Again, after 3 full months my usage patterns have not changed except for this added software/downloads, so I am assuming that since they occurred symotaniously that they are correlated. I hope this is helpful to anyone, end user or Apple themselves.
    Comments/Suggestions/Ect. welcome
    Thanks!

  • Strange Noise from MSI GTX 770 Gaming

I recently bought a MSI GTX 770 Gaming and it makes a strange noise. It doesn't sound like coil whine to me, more of a clicking. I also don't think its the fans as it makes the exact same noise regardless of fan speeds. However, it does seem directly related to load, the higher the clock speed the louder it gets.
See the below video for the noise, if you listen carefully you can hear towards the end where it transitions from high load -> low load -> high light again.
    Should I be concerned?

    Board:        Asus P6T Deluxe v2
    VGA:           MSI GTX 770 Gaming
    PSU:           Corsair HX750 +3.3V@25A, +5V@25A, +12V@62A, [email protected], +5VSB@3A
    Processor:  Intel Core i7 920 @ 4.0
    MEM:          Corsair Dominator 1600 3x2gb
    HDD:          Samsung Pro 256gb SSD
    COOLER:   Corsair H80i
    OS:            Windows 7 64bit Professional
It is definitely not the fans. The noise is irrelevant to fan speed. Also, did you copy the youtube link? I've heard coil whine and this does not sound the same. It's strange and seems to be coming from the PCB.

  • Strange noise from Touch ID sensor on iPhone 6

I dont know how I found that out, but try laying your finger on the home button on your iphone 6 and listen closely. I hear a strange ticking noise, like its generated by some kind of voltage?! Like the sparking of the gas-cooker. And if you lay your finger on the ring around the button you can hear that noise more frequent/quicker. Any idea about this?

WHen I noticed this strange noise I made some search on google and found only one post about the same problem and an answer that confirmed the sound on another device so I'm not the only one in this case. Strange, but the page I found yesterday is not available today, the post has been deleted I'm afraid they think I'm stupid if I take back the phone with this problem, because the sound has no effect on the phone, its working properly. But I want to know what can cause this...

  • Strange noise from my iPod Classic...

I have read a lot of posts regarding the noise from the spinning up of the 160GB hard drive in the current iPod Classic. But the noise I hear comes through the headphones. I would describe it as an electronic click followed by a whir sound. These sounds completely coincide with the spinning of the hard drive. You can feel the hard drive start to spin (and hear the noise through the headphones) has you hold the iPod. I understand how the hard drive works and why it spins up as I shuffle to a new song. What i don't understand is why I can hear these noises through the headphones. I find this unacceptable. My 80GB Classic does not have this issue. Can others hear these same sound though their headphones? Is something wrong with my iPod?

I've seen this happen before with both of my iPods. It happens with downloaded music that already has the album artwork embedded and it hasn't been replaced with your own artwork. Usually, you can find the files in iTunes, re-embed the correct artwork, and re-sync and it fixes it.

  • Strange noises from HD

My HD starts making noise after an hour or a few of work. It sounds like a transformator in the beginning then it gets louder remaining me a broken bearing noise. The system gets very slow, sometimes it takes up to 10-15 mins just to quit an app. If I put it to sleep and leave for a while then when i start it gets back to normal and works until the noise comes up. i've been working with a full HD for months maybe i damaged it somehow? now i have 10gb of free space.

Hi, Robert. Ugly mechanical noises from a hard drive are invariably a major sign of distress, and a warning to back up everything important that's on the drive RIGHT NOW. Don't do anything else first. Your hard drive may run for another week, day, hour, minute, or less — there's no telling. Get everything important copied to other media, beginning with the most critical files: you may never get to the less critical ones before the wheels come off.
When a drive is overly full, it has to work extra hard, and if it's already tired, that can be the straw that breaks the camel's back. On the other hand, drives sometimes just fail, with no warning (or noises) or apparent cause at all. Others just keep running, seemingly forever. I still have a 45MB hard drive I bought in 1987 (for $775!) that works just fine. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don't.
If I were you, I'd order a new hard drive right away and install it as soon as it arrives. And I'd discard the old one then, rather than wait for it to fail altogether (if it hasn't done so already.)

  • S20 Workstation off, noise from the speakers

    Hello,
I have a ThinkStation S20, and lately from time to time you hear a hiss from the speakers even if the workstation is turned off.
    May depend on what?
    thanks

are you referring to the internal speaker or do you have external speakers connected?
does the sound go away when the power cable is disconnected from the S20 and capacitors have fully drained?

  • Strange noise from speakers at certain times- Z77 G45

Good day. I'm having a strange issue where my computer speakers (plugged into the sound jacks on the mobo's sound "card") are producing noise at strange times. In particular, it seems to happen when I'm playing Minecraft. I had this issue years before with a machine, but was too young to care. The sound is sort of... idk how to describe it. It's not full-blown static. It's not popping. It's like the noise if you slowly let air out of a balloon, but higher pitched. Almost like you can hear the computer transmit things. It changes with what I'm doing on the machine... changing from one screen to another in Minecraft changes the nature of the noise.
Do any of you know what I'm talking about, by chance? If so, how's it fixed?

I've had similar issues off and on with various rigs. The last one was due to the PSU not being able to supply enough power to the graphics card while under load. However, yours should be good enough to handle that card.
Try disabling the "PC Speaker" and also see if it goes away when you mute the microphone on the motherboard. I've had both of these steps, individually or in unison, fix the issue.

  • Strange noise from right sight of macbook (please listen to video to judge)

strange sounds coming from right side of macbook pro. To me it seems like something is spinning or vibrates, although it sometimes seems that it has something to do electronics: by touching the macbook the sound changes pitch...just look to the vid to see and hear what I mean:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3MKlilX1pI
The difficult part of it: it only occurs 1 or 2 times per month...
so when I send it back to apple service, they can't do anything as long as the problem doesn't appear 'right there right then'. 1 in a 100 that thats going to happen...if someone knows about this problem, please comment so I can ask apple to take a better look at a specific part of my macbook.
ps: Apple service has seen the vids, but they say that thay can't take action as long it's not clear what is causing it.
Anybody any idea what is going on?
    - at the time there wasn't a cd/dvd inside
    - one vid is while using "greater performance" videocard the other isn't.

Sounds to me like the sort of noise you get when an audio turntable or the like has an earth problem of some kind.
I'd say electronic, not mechanical, and probably , as Retired Engineer hints, playing through the speaker.
When you touch the aluminium body of the computer it appears to reduce the sound. When you touch the glass trackpad it does not.
Does the sound ever occur if you have the computer attached to the power adaptor with the earthed three pin power cord attached?
If it is happening and you then plug headphones into the audio output socket, can you still hear it? If not then, then can you hear it through the headphones themselves?
Another possibility might be an environment with a very high level of static electricity, I guess, with your body providing an "earth" when you touch the metal body of the computer.
    Cheers
    Rod
Hi Rod thanx for the response, some answers:
I never use the earthed three pin power cord, could that be the problem? End if so does it come standard on MBPro's or is something wrong with mine?
If it accures I will put my headphones in and as others mentioned I will mute my audio, just to find out more about the problem.
High Level of static, this could be the case since inside my house I'm walking on 'crocs' http://www.crocs.com. But then it also accurred on while I was at work (and defenitely not wearing corcs )
still I have doubt that it is the speakers:
when you move the macboek, the noise drops and after a few seconds it comes back again
when you push the MBP surface the frequentie (pitch) changes rather then 'on' or 'off' as you would aspect with statics..
