I don;t use the iTunes store so my iTunes is probably just set on UK

  • No "itunes top movie" in my front row

The top movies are based on the country of your selection for the iTunes store.
Actually, the top movies/music of Front Row 2 are not related to iTunes at all. I think the store is derived from the IP address initiating the request to Apple's servers.
To fix your problem, open a Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities), paste the following command:
*defaults delete com.apple.frontrow MusicStoreFrontID && killall "Front Row"*
then hit enter. Now, you can relaunch Front Row and you should have your top movies restored.
Also, as Douglas noted, you must have a working internet connection for this content to be available.

  • Why a bright green screen before movie plays on Front Row?

Before I reinstalled Leopard the other day all .avi movie files on Front Row would play immediately on selection. Now, for a brief moment, the screen turns bright green before starting a number of the movies. Not all are affected. But those that are come from the same initial bit torrent source.

It seems to be part of the file as it shows when playing direct on QuickTime. Interestingly there's no green screen when the same file is played on another computer. And it didn't happen on this computer before re-install. Also, when the same files are played in QuickTime the QT pane reduces in size to smallest possible in the first few seconds of playing. If I enter full screen, the pane size doesn't reduce.

  • HD Movie Rentals on Front Row or just Apple TV

I saw the keynote where you can get HD movie rentals with apple TV. Will this be possible through Front Row on any computer or just with Apple TV?

Does iTunes Rentals work with Front Row, because the movies don't show up in my the movies list in Front Row?

  • Can't play movie files in front row...

    Hello,
I just got a new Macbook Pro (With lepoard) and cannot get my movie to play in Front Row. I could do it no problem in Tiger. I keep getting the message "The selected video could not be played--the format was not recognized."
The picture of the video shows up next to it, but it does not play and gives the above message.
Please help me out, as this is extremely frustrating. Thanks.

I had the same problem (only with the trailers and top (Movies and TV), it was resolved (unfortunately I don't remember how, may be with an upgrade) and now I have it again. These are files created by apple therefore there is no reason why a 3rd party codec would be needed to play them.

  • Removing Movie Title in Front Row

I recently bought my new iMac 24" and have attempted to use Front Row, but see there is a title of a video showing on the Movie Menu that I do not want. I went to the User Movie directory, removed the file with that name, but the title still shows on the Front Row Movie Menu. I have tried to reboot the computer to no avail. I have tried to find a preferences folder that might be retaining this title in the cache but can't find one.
Any idea how to remove this unwanted title from my Movies Menu?

I have the same problem with Front Row Movie trailers. I connect to the internet via high speed DSL. Watching movie trailers takes at least 10-15 minutes to fully load. I have no other network activity taking place. I get the same message 'cannot connect to movie server' then I press PLAY on the remote and the trailer PLAYs instantly but hangs after only two seconds. If I wait another few minutes I get only another 2 seconds out of the trailer. This goes on two seconds at a time before I give up.
What is the required datarate for the the movie trailer to play seemlessly anyway? Can somebody answer this?

  • Movie library from Front Row

i just realized that my front row is gone.  I need to know where my library of movies has disappeared to so that I can still access those. Help, please.

Front row went away with Lion. Depending on hoe you updated your movies may still be in your movies folder. Movies can also be stored in iTunes.

  • Any way to have a movies playlist in Front Row?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to set up Front Row (most recent version) so that it will play multiple movie files (within the movies folder) in a row? I'd like to set it and forget it sometimes and just have it play a bunch of things in a row. I could live with it if it just would play all contents of a folder sequentially, but ideally I'd love to see a playlist feature (like iTunes has for music) for movies. I would love to set up my own TV channel so to speak - lining up what's on each night. Or perhaps even utilizing something like a smart playlist that will dynamically create random viewing based on the criteria you specify for tags, etc.
I read about someone who suggested saving movies (all of mine are Xvid - been using them on my Phillips DVD player for the last year) in QuickTime as "reference files" and then putting those into iTunes to trick the system (since Xvid won't play in iTunes). Would doing something like this allow for video playlists?
    Thanks!

Not quite yet. However, the newest line of iPods, including the new iPod nano (video) does support playing video playlists. This would indicate that Apple is aware of this feature and it may be coming to other hardware or software in the future. I might suggest you send Mac OS X feedbac to Apple and request this feature in Front Row.

  • Front Row show iPhoto Movies?

As you know, iPhoto stores not only your photos, but any movies you've taken with your digital camera. Front Row shows all these photos, but it doesn't show the movies. Why is that?
You could of course import your digital camera movies into iTunes, but that gets a bit weird, because then you've got them stored twice, once in your iPhoto Library, and once in your iTunes Library. And with these AVI movies being mostly uncompressed, it can really eat up your hard drive storing them once, let alone twice!

If your movies play with the QuickTime Player program outside of iPhoto, then Front Row will be able to show them. The "Movies" section of Front Row only looks inside your "Movies" folder in your home folder for files. If you make an alias from the iPhoto library of your movie file into the "Movies" folder, then Front Row should be able to see them and play them. Remember, if you drag an item (or some items) while holding down on the Apple and "option" keys (it may be "alt" on a non-North American keyboard), you will create an alias where you drop the items instead of moving them. That might help you move several of them or even the folder they're in to your "Movies" folder.

  • Does your front row show the Applications playlist?

My Front Row has some bugs, I think.
Inside Music->Playlists, the following are listed but do not show their contents:
    Applications
    Library
    TV Shows
But Applications shouldn't be there and TV shows already shows up in the main front row menu.
As for Library, this is my entire iTunes library. does anyone have this issue:?

If your movies play with the QuickTime Player program outside of iPhoto, then Front Row will be able to show them. The "Movies" section of Front Row only looks inside your "Movies" folder in your home folder for files. If you make an alias from the iPhoto library of your movie file into the "Movies" folder, then Front Row should be able to see them and play them. • Playing iTunes TV show with Front Row

I'm having difficulties accessing my downloaded TV show from FRont Row. How do I access the TV show from my iTunes section of Front Row? It says the library does not contain any TV shows when attempted. Therefore I had to skip Front Row access to it and simply play it from iTunes. Thanks.

I'm having problems viewing TV shows too. If I click on a show to watch in FrontRow, the "status circle" (for lack of a more precise term) circles once and then I get nothing, not even a video preview next to the name. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this? I tried selecting all the video files in iTunes and choosing "Authorize Computer" but it didn't help. Strangely, if I first watch the video in iTunes, this sometimes helps.

  • Is there any way to NOT have iTunes/iPod movies show up under Movies in FR?

I only want the movies in my Movie folder to show up in Front Row. Right now the movies in thr Movie folder are relegated to the bottom, after a long list of the mpeg4 files that I have in iTunes. These are lower res. movies to watch on my small iPod screen, whereas the higher res movies in my Movie folder are for watching on my large monitor. Is there a way to eliminate the list of iTunes mpeg4 movies from the Front Row menus (or at least combining them into one folder)?
    G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi Marty J. I tried what you said, but all my iTunes Movies still form a longlist at the beginning of Front Row's Movie selection.
Incidentally, unless I misunderstood you, you can't "change" the "Show" box to anything. All I could do was to type "iPod Movies" into the "Show" box. Afterwards, FR shows no category called "iPod Movies" and all of my iPod movies still create a long list before I finally reach the movies of my "Movie" folder (i.e., Users>username>Movies). I want the contents of the Users>username>Movies folder to show up at the top of the list in Front Row. I don't want to have to scroll all the way thru 60+ iPod movies before I get to this folder's contents. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

  • FRONT ROW TV SHOWS HELP!

i currently record tv shows onto my mac. the problem is... when i covert the file to iTunes, i put the genre as TV SHOW and even the SETTINGS as TV SHOW. the file doesn't even show up on the TV show section of FRONT ROW. is there a way to put that video in the TV SHow section? it would really help me if you can answer this very frustrating issue with my few months old iMac.

You didn't say how you get your TV shows into your mac. I use EyeTV so decided to play around with this. I EXPORTED a recorded TV show from EyeTV and chose the "for iTunes" format. The resulting .m4a file, I dragged into my Music folder. From there Frontrow would display it but when I played it (using the Music selection in Frontrow and then looking under "Songs") I only got the sound, no video.
Next I re-EXPORTED from EyeTV, this time in "for iMovie" format and it produced a folder. Inside that folder was another folder labelled "Media" and within that was a file "Clip 01.dv". I dragged that to my Movies folder. From there Frontrow would play it (sound and video) using the Videos selection and then looking under "Movies". Quality wasn't as great as I hoped, but maybe when exporting, you could try one of the other formats in the pulldown. (I tried the Quicktime Movie choice with no obvious improvment but perhaps others would give different results.

  • Why won't Front Row recognize DV movie files??

    Hi,
I've placed several DV movie files in my 'Movies' folder and Front Row doesn't seem to find them. If I save the files as an MOV file, front row sees them instantly, but a) it doubles the file size and b) I shouldn't have to do that.
The first Intel iMac I had (which was returned for other reasons) saw and played the same files immediately after they were dropped in the folder.
Does anyone know why this might be happening??Does the recent Front Row software update have something to do with it??
As always, any help is greatly appreciated!
    -SS

    Hey Rachel,
I use QuickTime Pro to save them as MOV files. If you want a free solution, I'm pretty sure you'd be able to do it using iMovie. Import the DV file and then export it as an MOV file. There's probably another free program out there that will do it more simply, but I haven't looked into that.
I think this degrades the quality a little bit though, and we shouldn't have to go to this trouble. The DV files (and any other Quicktime-playable format) should show up in Front Row if placed into your "Movies" folder. At least that's my understanding...

  • Need to add movies to Front Row

I have *.avi files that I've added to an external LaCie hard drive. Front Row does not show these movies, only ones in the Movie folder on the main drive. How do I get movies on the external drive to be available in Front Row?

I have movies on an external drive and watch them via front row on my Mac Mini.
Front row recognizes aliases so what you need to do is creat an alias for the folder your files are in and then move that alias to your movies folder. Front row will then recognize the files and you should be able to play them.
