Strange PDF files printing inverted colors!?

I help support an office with several macs. Two of my remote office computers have an odd problem. In Apple Preview PDF files print inverted colors. If I open the PDF in Adobe reader they print normal. They are both trying to print to Samsung ML320 printers. I have yet to find any settings in Preview or in the printer setup that would allow this to happen. For now my fix is to set Adobe reader as the default application for viewing PDF files. Worked until one employee (also running Mac) sent the remote offices a PDF file attached in Apple Mail. Somehow ONLY PDF files from this person force default to Apple Preview. How can a file override system settings to choose it's default app? Strange and again only files coming for this particular mac force a default to Preview app. So it seems these two problems combined are making things difficult here. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
A.J.

I am still having this issue on a users machine. It is to the point where I may just reimage the whole laptop. The end user went to print a two page PDF from Apple Preview the other day and the first page was inverted and the second was not! How is this possible? The PDF is fine when printed from other machines and again only Apple Preview does this. I can use Adobe PDF reader and it prints normal.

  • Why won't pdf files print from Safari?

why won't pdf files print from Safari? I get blank pages. They print fine from Firefox. OS X 10.8.4

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Adobe Reader is printing all files in reverse color (black background with white text).  How do I fix this?  All other programs print fine.

    Hey,
Please let me know what is your Reader version.
Open Reader and go to Edit->Preferences->Accessibility and deselect 'Replace Document Colors' option.
If this does not help, then try repairing Adobe Reader and then check.
    Let me know.

  • PDF files with wrong colors

    Hi All,
I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I probably cannot guess the right search string to find the relevant thread.
I've recently upgraded from FM6 Mac to FM9 Win. My old FM6 documents have two kinds of problems in FM9:
    1) replaced fonts horizontally scaled to 80%
    2) colors looking good on the display, but bad when converted to PDF
As for issue #1, I couldn't do other than editing all the paragraph styles. But eventually I could solve it in a way or the other.
But issue #2, I cannot seem to come to an end with it. The original color was a Pantone swatch, that I can also find in the Win version of FM. In fact, when opening the FM file, it looks at it used to do on the Mac.
However, either I save as PDF from the File > Save to PDF menu command, or print a file using the PDF driver (with the Press Quality selected), the resulting color is wrong. What used to be a Grey-Blue Pantone 191-7, is now some sort of Cyan. Tones change slightly whether I convert using the Print > Do not save file trick, or use Acrobat Distiller 8 on the Mac with different settings; but the original color is never reproduced.
Oddly, an EPS file in the same FM file looks perfectly good - the original color is there. What a contrast with the oddly-colored text and lines in the remaining parts of the document!
Maybe someone has already gone through this issue, and has a solution for me. I'm literally loosing my sleep to try to solve this issue.
    Thank you in advance!

    Paolo,
I've done some in-depth color testing with FM9, and the results can be downloaded here: http://www.meissner-dokuteam.de/Files/Frame/colortest_fm9_p250_FM_elements_EN.pdf
In short words, for the "Save as PDF" CMYK version:
    - Spot colors from imported definitions are converted to CMYK
    - Spot colors from FM Pantone library are correctly output as Pantone colors *
    - Spot colors in imported EPS files are always correctly output
    * I was able to nail down the spot color bug: The critical element is the "Name of color" entry in the color definition dialog (below the dropdown/entry field "Name"). If there is a name, then the color will be correctly output as a pantone color. You can see this, if you define a color taken from the FM library, they all contain a "Name of color" entry. Self-defined colors or colors which came in by graphics import don't contain a name there, and are output as CMYK colors.
You can fix this behaviour, if you save your FM files as MIF, and add the required lines at the color definitions yourself. I for example used self defined spot colors, and added the lines
    <ColorLibraryFamilyName `WambaSamba self-defined'>
    <ColorLibraryInkName `WambaSamba Blue'>
Now even self-defined spot colors work. You can see this in this pdf: http://www.meissner-dokuteam.de/Files/Frame/colortest_fm9_p250_FM_elements_EN_MIFedit2.pdf
and download the editet MIF file (for analyzing) here: http://www.meissner-dokuteam.de/Files/Frame/colortest_fm9_p250_FM_elements_EN_MIFedit.mif. zip
One more bug, but this time in Acrobat: Spot color tints are always displayed at 100%, when you open the PDF, unless you enable Output/Overprint preview.

    Bernd

  • PDF files print in reverse order per page

Hi - I am trying to figure out if this is an adobe issue or a printing issue.  It is happening only on this user who is on Adobe 9.1 -everyone else is on 7.0 and they aren't having this issue.  So maybe it  is  a combo.
When the user prints a PDF which was a powerpoint file (she did not creat it was sent via email) she selects 2 per page and hten selects doublesided - landscape and collates staples top left hand side.
File prints doublesided and collates, but what would be slide one would be on the bottom of the page and what would be slide 2 would show at the top.  On the back of the 1st page  slide 3 is at the the bottom and slide 4 is at the top.  Staples at the bottom right.
Printer settings seem ok......there is a selection for order and top to bottom is selected.  Reverse order is NOT selected.
Are there any settings in Adobe that would cause this?  I have googled and though there are some similar questions no one has answered.
    specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP3
    Adobe 9.1 (latest updates)
    Canon IR C5185 (multifunction color)
    thanks in advance. Robin

  • Installed Reader version XI and now my pdf files print illegibly & faint

I updated to Reader version XI on both my Windows 7 Home Premium w/ SP1 laptop 64-bit and my desktop PC with Windows XP w/ SP3 and now my printer only will print very faint pages even with new black ink cartridge installed. The printer is an HP PSC 1210v and has the HP printer drivers from 2009 and is not using the Windows drivers. Everything worked just fine before as far as clear printing goes. So I uninstalled version XI from both machines, ran the cleaner tool to remove any remnants of Adobe files, then install Reader version 9.5.5 on both and now am having the same printing problem. Any suggestions? I have spent hours looking through forums and cannot find an answer to resolve this printing issue.
One thing I have not done yet is to delete the printer driver and let Windows Update possibly catch a driver that will make this printer work properly. HP has no fix. Thanks to anyone that has a solution or suggestion.

Please click on Advanced button on Print Dialog of Adobe Reader. Make sure the following setting is checked ON:
"Treat Grays as K only Grays" (available with Reader 10 and 11 only)
Now print with this setting ON and this should hopefully resolve the problem.
If it does not then turn the "Let Printer Determine color" setting and the printer applies the color on its own if application does not map the colors properly. This should definitely resolve the problem. If it does not then the issue lies either with the PDF or the Printer or the Ink.

  • Photos on PDF file print in NEGATIVE

Twice in the past 2 weeks, creating PDF files from 2 different (Quark) documents, ALL THE (TIF) PHOTOS WERE PRINTING IN REVERSE (NEGATIVE)... On MY printer they were printing OK, but when sent to a 3rd party -- they keep printing reversed... Only the photos, not the whole page...
I use a script creating a PS file that converts to PDF via Distiller 7.0.
One incident was a full page ad, using Distiller's PDFX1a2001(1) (or maybe it was PDF/X-1a:2001, don't remember, is there a difference?)... The ad was published in the newspaper with all the photos in negative..... The pre-press guy at the newspaper couldn't figure it out...
The other was a newsletter, converted via Distiller's "Smallest File Size" --- the client called me this morning telling me all the photos show up reversed....
...This strange behavior is intermittent, it happened 2 weeks ago, and then today again, but none in-between and it never happened before.
I Google this issue, and noticed this has been mentioned in some forums in the past (even 2003), but no answers showing...
...Any idea would be greatly appreciated....

  • Playboy PDF's have inverted colors on iPad? But not on Mac.

Can anyone tell me why some-of the Playboy PDF's I downloaded have inverted colors when viewed on any iPad PDF Reader, including iBooks? But are not inverted on my Mac. And how would I fix this? Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem.  I've got a ton of pdf documents that I created using a program called Scansoft PDF Creator, from web documents.  They work and look perfectly fine on my Windows PC when viewed with Adobe Reader X.  But when I try to read them on my iPad 2 using iBooks, all of the photos appear to have their colors inverted.
It's hard to blame this on the pdf creator program, because Adobe Reader X renders them just fine.  This has got to be a bug in the iPad 2.
Incidentally I did try a system reset (thanks for the suggestion) but it did not change anything.
I hope Apple can provide a fix other than telling me to do something to modify my pdf files.

  • How can I convert CMYK PDF file to Spot Color from a standard Spot Library?

    Hi,
I have PDF file that is in CMYK colors. Can I use Adobe Pro X to convert the document to Spot Color from a established spot library like the PANTONE PC? Is there a plugin to do it?
    Amit.

In method HMAC, you have towards the bottom
    catch(Exception e) {}please change this to
    catch(Exception e)
                e.printStackTrace();
}Note that using the sun.* classes, including the sun.misc.BASE64Encoder class, requires elevated privileges (see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=483223&messageID=2255882).
It is not difficult to write your own encoder/decoder class, or borrow one from someone else. Just google on "java base64 encoder".

I have a pdf file with 10 pages or so.  The pages change from landscape to portrait every so often.  When I tell it to print, the file will only print until the orientation changes, then it will quit.  Is there a way to get the file to print completely?

  • Pdf file printing causes printer to reboot

    Hello!
I got this nasty problem. I'm running OS X 10.9.5 on MBPro. I have HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP (printer-scanner-fax-copier) connected over USB. All drivers and software installed and running ok. But. If I scan some document (with HP own utility) and save it to pdf file, through IRIS OCR to make it searchable, then open this pdf file with Preview, and it displays normally, then send it to the printer- it fails. The printer gets halted for about a minute, then it reboots. Like I power cycled it.
The scanned file behaves ok. It's not abnormally large in size - a few MB usually. I can open it with Preview, Scroll, save, etc. And the printer behaves ok with other documents- text files, images, others. But whenever I send a scanned pdf to printer- it fails.
I try to copy the file and print it being logged in under Administrator (I normally use non-admin user account for work). Same result. Below is extract from the printer error log.

I'd really appreciate any help. This thing is very annoying. Thanks!

OK, I understand borderless printing is not supported on plain paper, but I don't think a hard crash is an acceptable result.
I can live with the minimize margins turned on but that opens up another documented bug where the last line to line and a half are not printed on the last sheet in a print set, If you are only printing one sheet at a time than every sheet will be missing this print. Has HP come up with or even looked into why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Don

  • Pdf files print with horizontal and vertical lines

All of a sudden, today, when I print pdf files, they print with horizontal and vertical lines.  I thaught it was the computer or printer. So I printed from another computer on the network, and printed to a different printer with the same result.  It is not just that one pdf file either, I have tried multiple files.  HELP.  Does anyone have any ideas?

It is not clear how you are creating the files. It appears that they were created by Distiller from PS files that were created in some way. I also noted that you are using AA8.1.0. You may want to try to update (do all the updates in order) as a possible fix. It may be in the creation process also. Several packages will split large graphics into parts and create the image. I think this is a characteristic of OFFICE 2007 (docx) files - but I am not sure yet. Tell us how you created the files - step by step, including the scan.
If you have the original documents, why not simply print to the Adobe PDF printer. The result would be smaller and a lot cleaner.

  • Pdf files print incorrectly with 10.1.7 update

I upgraded to the 10.1.7 Acrobat update a few days ago. Now when I print pdf files all the text prints as a solid garbled mass of compressed overlapping characters. Graphic elements print fine. I'm running CS5.5 on OSX 10.6.8 and printing on an Espson Stylus Photo 2200.
I've never had any problems printing pdf files prior to this. Is this a bug with the 10.1.7 update, or is it an incompatibility with my printer driver? For now I will have to go back and restore to a previous version of Acrobat in order to print.
Has anyone else had this experience or know how to fix it?

As a temporary measure you can try print as image. Since this happens on all pdf files, you can try re-instaling your printer driver and see if that helps.

  • Placed PDF file prints jagged

My company recently upgraded from Adobe Suite CS2 to CS4.  We also purchased a new printer.  I am still figuring out things but I haven't found a solution to my problem yet.  I am not sure if it is the program or the printer (Ikon Business Pro 560c - has post script - new drivers)
    Problem:
Our company logo was created in Illustrator CS4 and saved as both .AI and .PDF
I placed the PDF file into Indesign CS4 along with other graphics and text.  When I printed from Indesign the logo appeared jagged.
I replaced the file with the .AI version.  It did clean up the edges some but not completely.  They are still a bit wavery if you look close.
The regular person would not notice, but my boss is very detailed oriented and pressuring me to fix this. I don't understand why a vector image that is supposed to retain quality no matter the size (large or small) would look blurry.
This has also happened with text that has been converted to outlines.  (usually small text)
Let me know if you need more information.  I did not get my degree in graphic design, and am self taught so I am hoping this is something that can be easily fixed.  Thanks for any input.

I Placed both of these, blew them up to 300%, turned them sideways on letter-size paper and printed them on my HP Laserjet. They look fine.
I can make these look pretty bad if I choose Print > Graphics > Send Data: Proxy. You've got it set for All, or Optimized Subsampling, right?
It might also help to set your printer for Postscript only. Sometimes PCL printers do some funny things with vectors.
And I'd be willing to bet Peter's suggestion of going to PDF and printing that fixes it, even in PCL.
