Strange phenomena with the internal NIC

Hi!,
maybe there is someone with an idea or suggestion. I've got a PowerBook with a strange behavoir of the internal Onboard-NIC. Suddenly the connection to the internal Network stopped working.
But some things still work oO! If i plug in the Cable, the DHCP assigning works flawless, and i can ping all the interna, interaces without any Problems (AirPort, NIC, loopback). If i try to ping for example the router (from wich the PB gets the IP via DHCP) he says the Host is down.
Ok i've tried to manually change Link-Speed and switched between Half and Fullduplex mode, without any succes. The Book was resinstalled several times with Panther and Tiger and the connection via Airport works great. I cannot believe, that the NIC is completly damaged, because of great working DHCP... maybe some Problems in some OSI-Layers? Or because DHCP is not a layer3 proto?.... strange isn't it?
I've got the problem for a long time (a year or more) but i don't want to miss a 100Mbit conneciton because of Filetransfers to other PCs. Last year there wasn't one Ehternet PC-Card available that works with panther oder tiger Can someone give me a suggestion for a card that works with 10.3 or greater and is available in germany?

find another strange behavoir... if i disable all other interfaces, and trying to get the arp table for en0, there is no listing! The ARP "Hangs", can only CTRL-C to come back to console... "sudo arp -a".. (if i wait very long, the entries will show up (about 30sec for each entry)....
When do the same with only Airport enabled, sudo arp -a gives me all the information i need!

I've added a permanent ARP-Entry for the router.. wihtout success...

Well, I can't offer any suggestions, but I also see the same behavior on my PowerBook. I have no idea what has changed, or where to find clues, but earlier this evening I came back to my computer (already running and awake) to find this odd behavior. I spent more than an hour trying different things, and all I could get was a new ip from the dhcp server (although I couldn't ping it from Terminal window!).
The behavior for Airport and Ethernet was the same - obtain an ip address from the dhcp server, but no network traffic was possible. And yes, I verified that the network was working fine (other computers were online no problems).
After much fiddling around, I restarted my PoweBook, and whaddya know, everything is normal again.
Are there others who are experiencing this problem?
15" PowerBook G4 1.67 and G5 1.8 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am trying to identify a problem with my HP Pavillion dv7 laptop
Several months ago it started getting hot and showing messages about problems with the internal fan and battery. It would say enter = shutdown and shut off. I suspected a bad battery so I checked it without it just plugging it in with the power cable. It seemed to work better so I assumed that was the problem.
I ordered a new battery and it worked for a while. The problem came back and is getting worse. I can run it without the battery for a while but it gets got and shows the same message.
I read on here that flashing and updating the bios worked for some but the latest update gives me an error IHISI not support BIOS then Insyde flash not supported.
any help would be great this PC has a lot of info on it and I dont think it is a lost cause

Strange problem with the mail app on an iPad

I've got a bit of a strange problem with the mail app on an iPad - it's sending and receiving mail ok but won't let you delete mail. If you keep at it, it appears as if you have deleted mail (though takes a very long time as you just have to keep deleting it over and over again) - but the size of the app still keeps going up - reached 600mb so far, even though there is hardly any mail or attachments (goes up quite a lot each time you try to delete anything) - any idea what's causing this and how I can fix it?
It occasionally comes up with a dialogue panel saying to check my account settings, but I have checked those and they are fine. The little 'loading' icon just keeps spinning constantly too.

go to Settings > Mail > your account > Advanced > Move Discarded Messages Into
and make sure that Deleted Mailbox is ticked, and not Archive Mailbox
You can also adjust how long the deleted mail stays in the trash immediately below that.
If you are talking about a gmail account, you may also have to login to your account on the gmail server and update the settings there. This is what Barney previously posted about that:

SiteMinder integration with the internal and external facing portals

Hi ,
We are in development phase for SiteMinder integration with the internal and external facing portals.The proposed dual authentication scheme which requires both SiteMinder for External facing portal (EFP) and LDAP for Internal portal .is it possible?
and is it possible to main to diff LDAP directories one is external users and one is for internal users.?
If you maintain 2 diff(external & internal) LDAP Directories in Siteminder Policy Server what about external users which are not exit in portal data source .
I appreciate if anyone can help me for my above query .

We do have a physical external Portal and a physical internal portal. The both the external and internal are connected to 2 LDAP directories.
For example the External Portal is connected to the Employee LDAP Direcotry and the Customer LDAP Directory. The Internal Portal is connected to the US Employee LDAP Direcotry and the EMEA LDAP Directory.
So each one of them is connected to 2 different LDAP Directories.
I believe that the Siteminder Policy is setup such that the Internal portal has a policy and the External portal has a seperate policy on the same Siteminder Server. Then each of the Policies is configured to connect to the approiate LDAP Directories.
You have to maintain the LDAP Directory information in both the portal and Siteminder Policy Server. It is required in the policy server so that it can authenticate the user and it is required in the Portal server so that it can authorize the user and display content based on thier assigned roles.

Will my second external HD be backed up along with the internal HD?

I have two external HDs and one is my "TM drive" strictly used for back up.
Will my second external HD be backed up along with the internal HD?
The TM drive has more than enough space for both HDs.
It seems as if TM will only back up the internal... am I wrong?

If you go into time machine preferences and click options it will show a list of any folders or hard drives that will not be backed up. Any other files/folders will be backed up so long as they are plugged in and mounted fully when Time Machine is "Preparing"

Strange issue with the render percentage indicator

Hello,
I'm getting a strange issue with the FCPX interface - the little gauge that shows the percentage complete a render is - seems to have gone crazy! and is spinning round. I've tried changing project/ restarting fcpx and also restarting the mac!

This is traced back to a backup issue.. Hopefully a fix will come with 10.1.4
At this time, the solution is to turn off backup per library...

Strange problem with the internet connection

Hello,
I've a strange problem with the network connection , I have bought a Iphone 3g in Italy in date 31st
October 2010. Now in Italy I have just subscribed a telephone rental with Wind company, where there is an unlimited internet service. The problem is that in my Iphone there is not the line.
All this is strange because I receive the messages from social networks (like facebook and msn) but I cannot open tha page for the internet connection. I have gone to Apple store and I have tried to put my SIM in an other phone (iphone 3g or 3gs): my SIM is perfectly working.
The problem is only for the internet connection on my phone because wifi connection is good.

Strange happenings with the OS X mail...

While I'm presently using the latest Mavericks edition, I've noticed the follow strange behavior with the immediate previous OS X versions as well.
When I'm sending an email and have NO other outbound email waiting to go, I see various numbers of outbound emails in the lower activity section. For example, I can be sending one email and the activity window says there are any number going out. A few minutes ago I saw 11 going out, but the number seems to vary from 5 to maybe 15 outbound emails.
I see the same indication with incoming emails. The counter may say 15 or some other number of inbound emails when I actually receive far less.
I'm wondering why this is, especially with the outbound email number being several more than I'm actually sending. There is no indication in the "sent" folder other than the primary email(s) I've sent.
The short version of this is could I have a virus that is sending data to someone I don't know? Other than OS X mail, I've never seen this happen when using Windows.
Can anyone explain why this is happening?

It sounds like a counter variable isn't being reset. You get this quite a lot in software where there is a loop counter that the programmer likes to use (I use i,j and k habitually) and if the counter isn't set in some kind of automatic fashion then each time you run through the loop it increments over and over. Whoever is managing the bug fixes at Apple has probably given this a priority 4 or lower and so it will never be fixed.
I think the takeaway message is that this is probably not as big a worry as it looks. I too thought I might be sending buckets of emails as part of a botnet. The fact that it resets when you restart the whole thing makes me think it is just what is above.
Do actual Apple employees ever look at or respond to the things that people post in these threads? It would be useful to know if it is a known bug or not.

My satelite A100 does not support my sandisk 4 GB SDHC card.
"normal" SD cards are not a problem with the internal card reader, and there are no problems with the sandisk 4 GB SDHC card using a external card reader.
is there a software solution?

I do not have time to read users manuals for your notebook model but all supported cards can be listed there. I suppose SDHC is not listed and not supported.
I do not know what you mean with software solution but, as far as I know, update for multimedia card reader is not available.

Can logic express 7 record samples with the internal mic

hey im thinking about buying Logic express 7, however im am wondering if it can record samples using the internal mic, or straight off the soundcard. for example say if i liked a sound i heard on youtube and i wanted to sample that sound so i could use it in a composition, how would i be able to do this? i have been doing this with my PC using a program called Audacity but im wondering if Mac has that option or more specifically if any Logic program has that option.
would anyone be able to help me?

Confused with the internal table

I am getting confused again by the usage of work space for an internal table.
Say for example I have a internal table itab that is defined as:
DATA:ITAB TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF Txxx.
Then I define a work space for the internal table.
DATA:WS_ITAB LIKE ITAB.
Now say for example, I would like to fill in some data to this internal table, can I do:
WS_ITAB-FIELD1 = 3.
APPEND WS_ITAB INTO ITAB INDEX 1.
where FIELD1 is a valid field in Txxx?
If not, how should I accomplish my goal? Thanks a lot!

Yes, you have the right idea. When working with work areas it is a good idea to define them like line of itab. This way, anytime itab changes, the wa will also be updated.
DATA: ITAB TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF Txxx.
<b>data: wa like line of itab</b>.
You can add a line to your internal table by filling the work area and appending to the internal table.
wa-fld1 = 'A'.
wa-fld2 = 'B'.
wa-fld3 = 'C'.
append wa to itab.
You can insert into a specific index by using INSERT.
Insert wa into itab index 1.

Problems with the Internal Calls in SPA8000

I'm integrating a SPA8000 with latest firmware 6.1.10(001) against UC560 with 8.1. The calls between the analog phones connected to SPA8000´s ports against the SPA502´s phones connected to UC560 are working fine. Also between the UC560´s extensions to SPA8000 ports.
The problem are in the internal calls in the SPA8000.
Any idea why the internal calls in SPA8000 are not working fine ???

voice service voip
allow-connections h323 to h323
allow-connections h323 to sip
allow-connections sip to h323
allow-connections sip to sip

HT3131 In terms of cooling, is it OK to use demanding applications for extended periods with the internal display of my MacBook Air closed?

I'm using a Thunderbolt display when in the office and often run one or two Parallels VMs concurrently, which makes the fans spin a lot. I'm worried that the 13" 2011 MacBook Air isn't being cooled enough with the lid closed so I tend to open it up - am I just being paranoid?

The cooling of the MacBook Air is accomplished via an internal fan which draws in and exhausts air in the rear gap area below the hinge. This gap remains unimpeded whether the computer is open or closed. In fact, Apple has specifically designed the notebook to operate in a "normal" open screen configuration, as well as a closed (clamshell) mode. As long as you retain an adequate clearance and allowance for clean cool airflow at the rear of the Air, there is no recognized issue of whether the unit will adequately cool.
This does not preclude that the user can also "enhance" cooling with external conduction cooling devices designed to extract heat from the heat conductive aluminum case But in normal circumstances it is not required, nor even mentioned by Apple that it is necessary to do so. In fact, Apple even sells a stand for operating the MBA in a closed, vertical position for space savings. This does in face preclude use of a cooling pad, and still it is not a problem.
While there may be those who observe that the open case affords more surface area for direct case to atmosphere heat transfer, one must also recognize that this is probably more than offset by the fact that the device does not generate extra heat supporting a operting and lit display when closed.
