Strange Photoshop CS 2 Behavior

Several weeks ago, I noticed that Photoshop was taking 45-60 seconds to open images from my desktop (machine: 2GHz G5). Filesize didn't make a difference. After several hours of troubleshooting, I've narrowed the problem down to the following:
I login to several server volumes (several Windows 2000 Server volumes and two UNIX Volumes). When I have "UNIX Volume A" mounted, Photoshop will take the time mentioned above to open an image. When that one volume is not mounted, Photoshop works fine. Photoshop also works fine with "UNIX Volume B" mounted (UNIX Volume B is on the same UNIX server as UNIX Volume A).
Here's what I've tried/noticed so far:
Activity Monitor shows that Network usage jumps when I open the image (from the desktop) while I have UNIX Volume A mounted. Disk usage, memory usage and processor usage don't jump. No application other than Photoshop and Trueblue have more than 10% CPU usage.
-I have disabled Symantec AV autoscanning
-I have removed the Photoshop plugins folder
-I have trashed all Photoshop related prefs files
-Tried with Classic off
-Asked Spotlight not to index Images (the UNIX Volume A is a library of Images)
I am running out of ideas as to what it could possibly be. My best guess is that Spotlight is still trying to do some kind of indexing, but I don't know how to get it to stop?
To be clear, I am not opening the files off of the network volume. These are images that reside locally on my hard drive. The file size and the file type of the image can vary and still produce the same result. Also, this happens on several machines (all with Tiger) that connect to that volume. I haven't noticed any slowness in other apps.
Help? Please?
Various   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi, bobbysketch. Welcome to the Discussions.
This isn't a Spotlight issue: Spotlight does not automatically index networked-mounted (shared) volumes like "UNIX Volume A."
It may have something to do with how UNIX Volume A is formatted, vs. UNIX Volume B, i.e. the file system used on each. If you're in a corporate environment, check with the folks who manage the servers from which the UNIX volumes in question are managed to see what differences there are between the two UNIX volumes, e.g. file system, etc.
Are you running Photoshop CS (PS CS) in Mac OS X native mode, or Classic mode? If Classic, try running PS CS in Mac OS X native mode: in the Get Info window for PS, in the General tab, deselect "Open in Classic environment."
You might want to try your question on the Adobe Photoshop Mac Forum over at Adobe. I don't mean to send you somewhere else, but that's the place for Photoshop answers and you may find someone else who has run into this issue. Be sure to specify if you have all the PS CS updates and if you're running it in Native mode or under Classic mode.
Good luck!

  • Strange multiply blend mode behavior.

    Hi,
    i am working on a project and i am surprised to find a strange multiply blend mode behavior.
    When i open a new blank document to try again the multiply behavior, all seems to work well.
    Is it possible that the document i am working on became corrupted ?
    I work on a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15", Mac OS X 10.8.5 and Photoshop CC 14.1.2.
    This is what i see :
    - Normal blen mode.
    - Multiply blend mode.
    Thank you for the help
    Regards.

    Ok, i found the solution by chance but it raises new questions.
    I stayed on the same document (because i thought that it could be corrupted) but made all the layers invisibles.
    I created a first Color Fill layer filled with 50% grey (as background) and just above an other Color Fill layer filled with white (as white paint).
    So i masked all the white color fill layer and just made 2 stokes.
    In normal mode, i got this which is normal.
    So, i chose the multiply blend mode and got this (which is again normal).
    P.S. : i am writing the end of the post in a second post because i am having problem to post screenshot...

  • Strange sRGB soft-proofing behavior

    I am wondering if the CMS gurus might have an idea about this:
    I am using Photoshop CC, but had a similar experience with the previous version and on a different machine.
    I have a wide gamut NEC monitor which has been profiled using i1 Display. The generated profile is selected in Windows as default profile. Everything seems OK with this side of things.
    So I have a bitmap file with sRGB embedded profile, and my working space is sRGB.  Colour appears correct in 'normal' editing view, i.e. PS is already adjusting what it is sending to the monitor based on the fact that it is an sRGB image. To confirm, I can look at the same graphic in Firefox with CMS switched on, and it looks the same as in Photoshop. And it looks "correct". Furthermore, if I soft-proof to "Monitor", what I see makes sense too. (Overly vibrant colours). And that's also visually consistent with looking at it in Firefox with CMS switched off.
    So far so good. The fun begins when I ask PS to softproof the image to sRGB.  Now, you might ask what would be the point of that, since in theory I'm already looking at it being rendered into sRGB colour space. Regardless, what I expect to happen is that soft-proofing to sRGB makes absolutely no difference to what I see. However this is not the case! The on-screen representation changes markedly... not only is it overly saturated but there is a colour shift as well!  To make matters more confusing, when I use the Info box to show the raw and the softproof colour values, they are identical, as they should be. So the numbers seem OK, but the on-screen rendering is clearly wrong.
    I also see a similar effect if I do a "convert to profile sRGB" with preview switched on. Up until I hit the OK button, the preview rendering is "wrong". Once the conversion completes (which did nothing because it was already in sRGB space) it renders as it did before.
    I'm wondering if this is some kind of weird bug that happens when you softproof to the space you're already in?

    it's very confusing behavior and leads you to wonder if there are other times when the on-screen CMS rendering behavior can't be trusted.
    In my observation there are two forms of color-management implementation, both controlled by Adobe:  The first is the traditional Adobe Color Engine as executed by the CPU - this is run if you have the [ ] Enable Graphics Processor setting unchecked or have it checked but are using Basic drawing mode in the Advanced Settings section.  Phtotoshop also reverts to this CPU-resident color-management while you are moving a window and when you're using View - Gamut Warning.
    The second form is executed by the GPU and is used when in Normal and Advanced drawing modes.  This GPU implementation is presumably faster, but is also observably inaccurate under certain specific conditions.  For example, if your document is in the ProPhoto RGB color space, it will show subtle color banding in a pure gray gradient.
    The GPU-resident color management transforms have also been seen to add multi-value output level jumps, resulting in visible banding, in high bit depth gray gradients, where the CPU-resident code does not.
    I reported these inaccuracies to Adobe some time ago, but either the GPU-resident color-management code is inscrutable or they just have other priorities, because the inaccuracies remain.
    I just brought all this up, tozzy, since you mention the problem going away when the CPU-resident color-management code is invoked.  To retain GPU acceleration for other things, but use CPU color-management, try using Basic drawing mode if you're concerned about getting the most accurate displays from color-management.  Remember that you have to close and restart Photoshop after making changes in these settings.

  • Extremely strange open/save dialog behavior

    This is a complex thing to describe, but here goes:
    Under 10.4.x, in certain applications' open/save dialogs, files and folders for an Iomega FireWire Drive are often simply missing. For example: in the Users folder, I have two folders:
    "Scott" and "shared"
    In "Scott" I have the usual folders: Desktop, Documents, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public, and Sites.
    If, in those certain applications' dialogs, I navigate to the Users folder, I only see "Scott". If I then navigate to "Scott", the only folder visible is Documents.
    All of the folders are perfectly visble in Finder.
    As best I can tell, this problem does not occur with the internal drive, or with a LaCie USB drive.
    But it's not so simple. In an open/save dialog,
    1) if I am in List view and navigate to the FireWire drive, switching to column view does not change anything.
    2) So long as I'm in the root directory, or viewing another drive, if I switch to Column view, I can navigate down to Users and all of the formerly missing directories are visible. This works even if I go to the problem diectories first in List (with the missing contents), go back up to root, switch to Column, then go back down.
    3) if I'm viewing the directories in Column view (i.e., they're all there), I can switch to List, and they're still there. But if I change directories AT ALL, they're gone again when I try to return.
    In other words, I have to be in Column view in order to see the directories, and I must be in Column view BEFORE navigating to those directories. I can then switch to List, but the directories malfunction if I change, moving either up or down in the path.
    Last bit of strangeness, and even more difficult to describe: If in List view and looking at the FireWire drive, I go back to my Computer directory (using Command-up arrow, for example), my FireWire drive is shown six times! That is:
    Iomega FW
    Iomega FW 1
    Iomega FW 2
    Iomega FW 3
    Iomega FW 4
    Iomega FW 5
    The first five have regular folder icons, while the last has what looks like a network icon, with the little alias arrow on it. If I click on a different drive and THEN go back to the Computer directory, it's fine again.
    Want weirder? Fine.
    1) I click on the FireWire drive icon in the sidebar, then on my computer icon (Powermac G5). The listing INSTANTLY switches to my internal drive (which is highlighted in the sidebar).
    2) if any other drive is highlighted, or I was switched to the internal drive as above, I can then click on the computer icon without any trouble.
    Lastly: as I said, this problem only occurs in certain applications. Here are some tests as to which do, and which do not, have the problem:
    Problem does not occur: Safari, Console, TextEdit, QuickTime Player, Preview
    Problem occurs: Word, DVD Player, iTunes, Firefox, FileBuddy
    Last bit: I tried unmounting the drive and switching it to a USB connection, but this changed nothing.
    Disk Utility, TechTool Pro 4, and DiskWarrior find no problems with the drive.
    Apologies if this sounds convoluted, but it is! Any thoughts?

    I am going to make some (perhaps twisted) logical leaps...
    In the days of SCSI, duplicate SCSI addresses would cause that behavior. The first twisted logic question is:
    Is this a factory FW device, or did you install the Iomega drive in a FW enclosure you purchased yourself, and, if the latter, what is the jumper setting on the Iomega device proper?
    I know there are sometimes issues with drive indexing/spotlight with certain files/folders. That problem causes some files to duplicate themselves multiple times.
    Does Iomega say anything about problems indexing their device? (with the second twisted logical leap of the directory cache is being duplicated)

  • Strange photoshop problem

    Hello,
    I was tired of the big "open with" mess when it comes to images, so I deleted the droplets in my photoshop/samples/ folders.
    Since then, my contextual menu is fine, but Photoshop (CS 2) won't start! It hangs at "Initializing..."
    Strange thing is that I did the same thing with my old version (CS 1) and it still loads.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Loa
    P.S. I know I could re-install (probably will soon), but I find this problem quite strange.

    A little more info would help. Like:
    Operating System/version
    Processor
    Photoshop version number
    Amount of RAM installed
    Hard drive(s) capacity
    Video card make and model
    Are you sure the plug-in is compatible with PS CS4? If CS4 is running in 64-bit, the plug-in must be too.
    Check with the manufacturer's site.

  • Strange mouse, windows, app behavior

    Lately, I have noticed several strange behaviors when using my computer.
    1. There is often a delay, of different durations, between my making a move with the mouse on the mouse pad and the movement appearing on the screen. This does not happen every time but I have noticed it happens when I go between one app and another and also, after I have saved something.
    2. Windows "shudder" or move slightly (often in combination with item 1 above), as if there has been a delay in processing something and I was expecting to be able to go to the next action.
    3. The mouse pointer disappears from the screen. I have been able to get it back by constantly moving the mouse around and pressing the escape key continuously.
    4. Scroll bars disappear and reappear, often with the shuddering as in item 2 above.
    5. Sometimes, saving takes a relatively long time, when it shouldn't as I have simple documents. This is sometimes accompanied by what sounds like "hard disk working noise". Also, the filename & file saving location dialog box that appears when you choose "save as" takes a while to appear, or appears but shakes/shudders before if fully appears.
    6. The mouse stopped working when I had it connected via the extended keyboard. It now connects directly to the computer and works but with some problems as above and the following. Click+holding+dragging is a problem and can only be done in one direction when trying to grab a screen shot suing the Grab app). This is bottom right to top left. Anything else I try and the Grab app stops prematurely partway during the path I have chosen. This is quite frustrating.
    I don't know if this is Mavericks not working properly or some incompatibility with one or more apps.
    My mouse pad is quite worn so that could be one possible reason. I have a apple pro mouse.
    Anyone know what's going on or how to fix these problems?

  • Another strange Power Mac G5 behavior

    This one is perplexing, I have a Dual 2.5 that runs perfectly fine except when running ASD the fans will go off and then it shuts down, all tests pass, the memory test (second one) starts the fans then shut down, also if I leave it idle in ASD the fans will eventually go off and the it shuts down.
    I have checked the memory with Remember with no problems.
    Thermal calibration also passed fine when I finished building the machine, Im afraid now if I try it again it will crash and then I wont be able to calibrate any further.
    Strange behavior, typical for a G5 PM I suppose.

    I found what the problem was!
    It was the CPU B's exhaust fan, It had lost it's tachometer sense so it went off into jet plane mode, ASD showed that it wasn't even there, even thought it was running as fast as it's little windings could spin it.
    When I swapped the fan with another one, all is good now, the G5 will now run ASD's test's infinitely.
    Apparently ASD will freak out when a fan goes AWOL and after a set time will automatically shut down, would be nice for an error log in ASD.

  • Upgrade from 4x2 GB to 2x8 GB Ram results in strange Windows 7 64bit behavior

    I wanted to upgrade my System, swapped the 4x2 GB (Adata 1600G) to 2x8 GB (G.Skill F3-2133C9D 16GXH) Ram to the Dual Channel Slots (2 x Blue)
    The System asks me to enter Setup with F1 recognizing the mem change.
    I have OC Genie active and tried it later without.
    When I boot to Windows with the new RAM my NVIDIA Card has a yellow exclamation mark in my device list. Also NVIDIA Software can`t access the card telling me I would have not such an device active. I tried to reinstall the drivers without success.
    I tried a couple of changes in bios and rebootet, but gave up after 40 Minutes of experimenting.
    After I went back to my old RAM the system runs smooth like always.
    Now I hope someone here can give me the right advice what to do, or ì`ll sent them back to the shop.
    System:
    MSI Z68A-GD80 (B3) (MS-7672) (Bios V20.1 01/09/2013)
    Intel Core I5-2500k @ 4200
    NVIDIA N560GTX-Ti
    New Ram: G.Skill RipjawsX F3-2133C9D 16GXH
    Old Ram: A-data 1600G @ 667 MHZ
    What I did:
    1 G.Skill Ram in DIMM1 works good, also with OC
    changed the other one G.Skill module workd ok (to be sure both are ok)
    as soon as I add the second RAM NVIDIA Card doesnt work correctly, some programs give me strange warnings, blue screens, random crashes.
    I choosed DIMM1 + 3 (Blue) or DIMM2 +4 and all other positions with no good result.
    Even with default settings no luck.
     i get the following error on my nvidia card in the device manager
    "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"
    Is it an error on the motherboard ?
    How can I proof that? Any tools ? I`m really out of ideas ...
    Thank you

    thank you. that`s what I had in my back mind
    I didn`t thought that the performance increase is that less. any reviews you can recommend ?
    Here is the memory scaling on a Core i7 2600K:
    As you can see, in both cases (non-3D and 3D apps) the performances boost is close to zero.
    So again: for all the current Core i5 / Core i7 processors, DDR3-1600 is the best match.
    Above that, nothing but troubles.

  • *very* strange Photoshop CS4 troubles

    Hello,
    I'm having 2 very odd problems with Photoshop CS4 I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on. I have been using PS since the early '90s and have never seen anything like these. I don't know if they are linked or if it's just coincidence. I have installed the most recent update (11.0.2) and the problems remain.
    The first began about two weeks ago. Starting about 1/4th the screen width (1920) from the left to the left edge red becomes desaturated so at the left edge it appears orange. Very annoying. I use a Quadro FX 1800 video card connected to two Dell 2408 WFP displays via DisplayPort and I have the exact same problem on both displays. I have installed the newest hardware drivers, recalibrated my displays, etc., nothing fixes it. Today I saved a red swatch as a PNG and in both Picasa PhotoViewer and MS PictureViewer there is no shift in colour across either screen.
    If I set the colour swatch in the tool palette to r=255,g=0,b=0 it appears orange if it's on the left side of the photoshop window. Move it to the right and it turns red. This is the kicker... If I leave it on the left and move the whole photoshop window to the right it turns red!!! perplexed.
    Problem two is another mystery and it just started today. Frequently, and more so over the past week, I copy a colour channel from one image and past it into a channel of a newly created image. It's never made a difference if I was copying a colour channel to a greyscale channel, vice versa or colour to colour. It's always worked fine. Today however I can no longer copy a channel from one image and paste it to a channel in another with one exception. I can paste a colour channel to the alpha channel in a new image. Totally useless to me. Copying layers from one image to another is no problem.
    I'm really stumped with these and though the first problem is a nuisance (when I look at a colour on the screen I also look at it's numbers so I'm already a skeptic)  the second is a show stopper. I would love to hear what people think of these.
    jt

    Interesting problem...
    I'm assuming the orange looking window in Photoshop changes to red all at once when you move it, not gradually.
    It sounds just as though a wide-gamut color profile is somehow being applied to just the left part of the screen, similar to what you might see if you had a small wide profile monitor on the left and another sRGB-like monitor on the right and the desktop spanning both.  Do your nVidia video drivers allow you to choose settings as though you have dual monitors?  Do they offer a monitor "identify" function, or the ability to configure "dual-link" DVI?  I believe that's the area in which you should look, and see if you can reset them to be configured for one monitor only.
    Out of curiosity, what happens if you go into the Windows 7 Color Management dialog and uncheck the [ ] Use my settings for this device box entirely?  Do you find your color again becomes consistent when an image is moved from one location to the other on the screen?  Or is just the right side affected.
    The Windows 7 image "Preview" viewer (e.g., right-click a .jpg image in Explorer and choose "Preview") is color-managed, by the way.  It will even apply a profile to part of its image (i.e., it'll do the right thing if dragged so that it is viewable on two differently calibrated monitors), so if I'm right about the system thinking you have two monitors in one, you may be able to see the exact vertical position where the profile change occurs.  It should also allow you to determine whether the problem is associated with Photoshop or on your system in general.
    Consider this Windows Preview viewer run as noted above across the divide between an intentionally misconfigured monitor (with wide gamut profile) and a correctly configured one.  Look familiar?

  • Strange full table scan behavior

    Hi all you sharp-eyed oracle gurus out there..
    I need some help/tips on a update I'm running which is taking very long time. Oracle RDMBS is 11.2.0.1 with advanced compression option.
    I'm currently updating all rows in a table from value 1 to 0. (update mistaf set b_code='0';)
    The column in question is a CHAR(1) column and the column is not indexed. The table is a fairly large heap-table with 55 million rows to be updated and it's size is approx 11GB. The table is compressed with the compress for OLTP option.
    What is strange to me is that I can clearly see that a full table scan is running but i cannot see any db file scattered read, as i would expect, but instead i'm only seeing db file sequential reads. I suppose this might be the reason for its long execution time (dbconsole estimates 20 hours to complete looking at sql monitoring).
    Any views on why Oracle would do db file sequential reads on a FTS? And do you agree that this might be the reason why it takes so long to complete?
    More info: I first started the update and left work and the next morning i saw that the update still wasnt finished to which i realised that i had a bitmap index on the column to be updated. I dropped the index and started the update once again.. It seemed to execute very fast at the begining before rapildy declining in performance..
    THanks in advance for any help!

    tried to tkprof the trace file but no sql came up..
    however the raw trace file looks like this

  • Strange pixels from slice behavior

    Hello,
    I created a Fireworks PNG to swap images with rollovers in a three-section navigation.  There are no problems with any of the image swaps, but when I click the first link, "About", there's a red pixel that shows up to the upper left of the word that changes to blue upon releasing the mouse button.  This is obviously an "onclick" behavior, but I didn't think that there was a way to affect this in Fireworks.  There is a slight overlap of the slices for "About" and "Blog"; I suppose that could be an issue but the overlap doesn't occur where the pixel shows up.  If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to remedy this, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks!

    Hi
    To tell the truth it's a bit hard to figure out what the exact problem is. I have some ideas of how to use slices though, hope they help you.
    -First, a slice can't be overlapped by a slice. You can achive that by using a slice and a hotspot but not a slice and a slice. So be careful not to draw slices together , one on another, cause this will not work.
    -Also check the image you want to swap, it must have the same size with the slice you use to swap. If it doesn't, the result is paramorphosis. You won't see the image as is because it is going to be resized to fit the slice size.
    -Go to your behaviors panel (if you use CS4) and check your slice behaviors. There is a restore on mouseout option which you may wanna change.

  • Strange Mail/Gmail trash behavior - syncing trash

    I'm using Apple Mail (2.1.3) with Gmail (IMAP) with my Mailbox Behaviors set: Store drafts on server (checked) Store sent (unchecked) Store junk (checked) Move deleted messages to Trash (checked) Store deleted messages on server (unchecked).
    I'd like to have my Trash in Mail synced with Trash in Gmail but I can't seem to make this happen. All that appears in my Gmail trash when I composed/send/receive/delete email in Mail is many iterations of any email I compose. What seems to be happening is when I compose email in Mail, a snapshot of the draft is placed in my Gmail Trash folder periodically. If I spend 30 minutes composing an email, I will end up with 10-15 snapshots of the draft taken periodically while I was writing the email.
    I've tried a variety of combinations of Mail preferences with no change in this behavior. Anyone have any ideas? I don't really mind the snapshotting, but I would like to sync the two Trash folders if possible.
    Also, what is the difference between the Trash folder and Deleted Messages folder in Mail? When I check "Store deleted messages on server" in Mail preferences, a Deleted Messages folder appears in Mail and acts like Trash used to (it receives deleted messages and the old Trash folder stays empty). Neither one is synced with the Gmail trash folder...
    Thanks for any help!

    I've been playing with this also lately and being new to both Gmail and Apple Mail I agree that it's a little tricky. My only comment is that with regards to Trash and Deleted Messages, "Deleted Messages" appears to be a Gmail label that Apple Mail assigns to messages when you delete them (which also creates a corresponding folder in Apple Mail) - whereas Trash is the official [Gmail]\Trash folder. Due to the redundancy Google recommends NOT checking the "Move deleted messages to Trash".

  • Photoshop CS6 bizarre behavior in Win8

    Don't yam that the OS is a beta: it isn't. CS6 worked stably with the consumer preview version but seems unusable with what will be the final version of Win8 (like possibly October).
    Win8 has its issuess but at least it isn't the senile Mac OSancient.
    I don't want to hear about video drivers: Adobe knows what the driver models are for Nvidia and ATI and it is Adobe's problem to create a stable product that conforms to the known parameters of what are mature driver platforms. I have several versions of ATI drivers archived and none of them make any difference.
    I have the same issues regardless of the settings for GPU acceleration or whether the GPU is used at all, in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
    Changing the GPU settings, closing and reopening the program does nothing.
    I experience constant flickering in the desktop background color from blank (checkerbox) to black when implementing essentially any image manipulation. I can find no work-around for this.
    The biggest issue is that it is nearly impossible to use the perspective crop tool as the image completely goes black when the mouse button is released. There is a frustrating work-around: If without moving the mouse I left click again the image reappears. Move the crop line and release the mouse button the image disappears. Click again on the left mouse button and move a few pixels and the image reappears.
    Try it, you'll hate it.

    http://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php
    Laptop makers often do not update drivers because it may cause them support issues even though the parts in their machines are all generic, including any ATI mobile video card. Intel in particular updates chipset drivers that most laptop users are unaware of and which generally enhance performance. This utility will scan your laptop and point you to updated drivers. If you are uncertain about installing that driver create a restore point before installing and you can revert to wherever you were easily via safe mode. Remember these are generic drivers for the generic parts in your machine regardless of whose label is on the box. Mobile video drivers are not updated as frequently as desktop drivers and it is a sad fact that ATI is less aggressive than Nvidia in updating video drivers in general and Adobe, as this long thread demonstrates, is entirely indifferent to the needs of its customers as it has no competitors for Photoshop.

  • Photoshop CS4 - odd behavior in titling

    All,
    I edit video almost every night and every weekend and have been doing this for several years now.  Suddenly, I'm seeing an odd behavior now that I've never seen before.
    I created a title that consists only of a red circle and have it as one of my title templates.  I've used the red circle template across many projects without problems  I use it to highlight an athlete in the video.  I use keying so that the circle stays around the athlete for the entire clip so that a coach can focus on the specific athlete during the action.  My videos are used by college coaches for recruiting high school athletes.
    In the last few days, when I select the red circle title and the Motion bar under Video Effects under Effects Control so I can perform the keying, the video will flip to black so that all I see is the red circle on a black background.  If I drag the scrubber a little, the video reappears with the red circle overlayed, but as soon as I release the scrubber, the video goes black again. This makes it impossible to change the key values for the title since I can't see the video.
    For trouble-shooting, I created a new red circle title from scratch but it behaves the same.  I tried using a completely different title but it behaves the same.
    I assume I inadvertantly hit a switch somewhere that has changed the behavior, but I can't figure this out.  If someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    What exaxctly are you talking about? Using the graphic in Premiere? If so, this is probably a more appropriate question for the PPro forum. That aside, why even bother? Premiere's title tool can do circles with transparency no problem and then After Effects has this neat parametric Circle effect and a motio0n tracker, too. Sounds like you love doing things the hard way....

  • Strange RFC model field behavior

    Hi all
    I'm working with an RFC that have a table structure Foo_Item that contains the field Postion. This field has ABAP component type BUZEI and data type NUMC.
    This is represented in Java as a String. My problem is that it displays as "000" when the value of the field is null. I would like it to display "" (the empty string).
    Consider this code (in the component controller):
    Foo_Item oldItem = <some instance of Foo_Item>
    Foo_Item.setPostion(null);
    if (Foo_Item != null) {
        Foo_Item newItem = new Foo_Item();
        // Here, newItem.getPostion() -> null
        WDCopyService.copyCorresponding(oldItem, newItem);
        // Now, newItem.getPostion() -> "000"
        newItem().setPostion(null);
        // Mindblowingly, newItem.getPostion() -> "000" still!
    Now, something strange is going on behind the scenes here. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    -martin

    Hi Martin,
    There is a class behind the scenes that returns a String but internally represents a NUMC.
    You will have to copy your value in a normal String and remove the leading zeros (If you do not want any leading zeros that is)
    //@@begin javadoc:removeLeadingZeros()
         /** Declared method. */
      //@@end
      public java.lang.String removeLeadingZeros( java.lang.String inString )
        //@@begin removeLeadingZeros()
              String outString = "";
              if (inString != null) {
                   int length = inString.length();
                   for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) {
                        char s = inString.charAt(i);
                        if (s == '0') {
                             //do nothing here
                        } else {
                             outString = inString.substring(i);
                             break;
              return outString;
        //@@end
