Strange problem in PS CS4 32-bit only

I'm having a rather odd problem and haven't been able to find any discussions of something similar. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 SP1. I have both the 32- and 64-bit versions of PS CS4 installed with the latest updates.
64-bit PS works like a champ. I love it. Were it not for a variety of plug-ins I use which are not yet 64-bit enabled, I would never use the 32-bit version of PS. However...
When running 32-bit PS, the program acts as though I have some key or mouse button either pressed or like I'm repeatedly pressing a key. Sort of. It doesn't try to do something on its own - that is, if I open a file and sit here doing nothing, PS won't do anything on its own. I will, though, see the cursor flashing oddly.
If I attempt to do anything, I end up fighting with the "phantom" keys. Sometimes, I need to press a key several times before it reacts. Often, I'll get warning sounds like you hear when you press a wrong key for a particular state. Certain actions won't hold sufficiently long to let me do something. I just ran into a stubborn problem like this. If I click the crop tool, I cannot type into the width, height, or resolution boxes on the tool bar. I can click there, see a vertical cursor appear for an instant, then it's gone.
This is driving me nuts. I wish my plug-in vendors would get their acts together and add 64-bit compatibility, but so far only Imaginomic has done so with Noiseware (and I'm grateful to them!).
Other info: I'm running with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard as well as an Intuous 3 tablet. I have an nVidea GeForce 8600 GT video card. I've tried disabling OpenGL in PS without help. Note again, 64-bit PS works brilliantly with all these. I'm running plug-ins from OnOne (Plugin Suite 4) and Nik (Viveza) as well as Noiseware mentioned above. I tried logging in with my wife's ID to see if any of my settings might be to blame, but it behaves the same with her ID. I'm not sure if this problem showed up with the PS update or if it was there from the start. I'm thinking it did not show this problem when I first upgraded to CS4. I was using CS2 previously, and it's still installed on this computer. It does not exhibit this problem.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Tony

Mylenium - thanks. I also was suspicious of the tablet, but the tablet is not in use when this problem shows up. Nevertheless, I uninstalled the Wacom driver, removed the tablet connection, rebooted, and the problem persists. But, I did get a chance to install a new version of the driver (April 2009).
Like I said - strange problem. Since it doesn't crash PS, there's not much data. No error message, no stack trace.
One other tidbit. I still have the crop tool selected. If I load an image and place the cursor over the image window, the cursor changes between the crop cursor and the big white arrow. Back and forth. When it's doing this, if you want to use the selected tool, you have to click right when the tool's cursor is showing, otherwise you get the "bing" noise.

  • Win 7 x64 - possible to install CS4 64-bit only?

    Is it possible to install only the 64-bit version of CS4 on Win7 64-bit ?
    I do not really need to keep both versions (I do not use many plugins).
    Thank you

    The general advice is to install both 32- and 64-bit version but there is a read-me on the installation disk which tells you how install CS4 64-bit only.
    Quote:
    If you want to install ONLY the 64-bit application follow these steps:
    1. Run the Photoshop CS4 installer.
    2. Enter your serial number. Click Accept.
    3. On the right side of the Options panel under the 64-bit heading, uncheck the box for Adobe Photoshop CS4 (leave the “Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64-bit)” option checked).
    4. Finish installation.

  • Will I have problems updating to CS4?

    I currently have CS3 the total package. All my elements open except for Encore.
    If I wanted to download CS4 I believe Encore is included????
    If that is correct then will I have problems downloading the CS4 with Encore only?
    It scares me to think of doing something that may affect my current projects.
    Thanks JIm

    Jim,
    I am with John on buying the full versions. I always go that route, because I want the discs for next year, or later.
    One little caveat. If your full version is NOT CS4.1 (it should be by now, but check), there are instances where updating the paid-version of CS4 to CS4.1 has caused the program to revert to "trial" mode. Be aware that this could be an issue. Just keep that in the back of your mind and good luck.

  • CS4 64 bit? only photoshop!

    I just installed the master collection CS4
    on my Vista 64bit.
    and I see that only photoshop runs on 64 bit!
    all other proggiz are in X86 DIR = 32bit
    I thought that After effects and Premiere Pro are also in 64 BIT!
    Am I wrong?!

    >"Hopefully CS5 will be CS4.2.0 only 64bit. No new features just working right out the box. "
    Agreed. I really really hope Adobe will take some time to clean up everything. In last few versions their apps have gotten so horribly bloated, buggy and unstable :( -- How I miss how rock solid Photoshop 7 was :(
    >"CUDA isn't Open Source, it's a proprietary C+ API that software developers (like Adobe) can use to access the parallel processing capabilities native to GPUs. "
    Well atleast us Mac users have OpenCL to look forward too; now if only Adobe would use it in the next version of CS :)

    Anybody out there having similar problems with call pickup Groups?

    Hi,
    Did you meet any other call delay when you using Lync?
    As the issue happen for Lync desktop client, it can be performance issue. Please check if there is any error message from FE Server when the issue happen.
    Also please check if you have updated Lync Server to the latest version, if not, update it and then test again.

  • Strange problem with ORA-12154 from only one client

    Hi all,
    I have a strange problem.
    I have three 11.2.0.1 databases on three different hosts.
    For simplicity lets say:
    Host1: database ovm1a
    Host2: database ovm7a
    Host3: database ovm8a
    I have a database schema in all three databases named EHJ. In all three databases, there are fixed user
    database links to the other databases. So EHJ in ovm1a has two links, one to ovm7a and one to ovm8a. The EHJ schema in ovm7a has two fixed user links to the EHJ schema in the ovm1a and ovm8a databases. And the same is true for the EHJ schema in the third database, ovm8a.
    If I log into the EHJ schema for each of the three databases, I can successfully select over the database links. I've been using the SQL statement: select count(*) from user_users@dblink_name;
    For each of the two links in each of the three databases, the query returns 1 so I know the database links are working properly and I have my networking setup properly.
    Now, here is the weirdness.
    I have an Oracle Application Server where our Oracle Forms and Reports run. The Oracle client on this install is 10.1.0.5. I've got a tnsnames.ora file setup on this Oracle App server to connect to all three databases ovm1a, ovm7a and ovm8a. I can successfully use the 10.2.0.5 client SQL*PLUS to connect to the EHJ schema in the ovms1, ovms7 and ovms8 databases.
    However, (and only when) connected to the ovm1a database from this client, attempts to select over the link throw the famous error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    This error happens with both links in the ovm1a database when connected via this one client.
    BUT, if I connect using the same 10.1.0.5 client to the EHJ schema in the ovm7a or ovm8a databases, the database links in those two databases are working just fine.
    I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.
    I've tried using SQL*PLUS from my desktop machine (10g R2 client) connecting to the EHJ schema on all three databases and the db links all work fine.
    Any help in trying to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

  • Bridge to CS4 64 bit Vista - Problem with bit depth

    I'm using Camera Raw in Bridge and CS4 64 bit. When the Camera Raw window opens in Bridge, the image is shown in 8 bit mode even though shot in 16 bit. I could not find a setting in either the Bridge or CS4 Preferences that accounts for the down sampling. If I do the same raw conversion in Lightroom, this down sampling doesn't occur. Any ideas? • Strange Plug-In Behavior CS4 - Opening from Bridge

    Hello,
    I think that this is the right forum, but it could be bridge instead.  I've moved my Photoshop CS4 to my new Win 7 64 bit PC.  I am having a very strange situation with my optional Plug-ins and Bridge.  This us with the x86 32 bit version.  When I open photoshop directly, by clicking on the Icon, all of my plug-ins are available.  When I open it from bridge, by double clicking on an image, Only some of my plug-ins show up in Photoshop.  I am bewildered.  Can Bridge settings (or whatever) in Win 7 64 affect the Photoshop CS4 settings?  Any help and / or thoughts are appreciated.

  • Strange problems on Macbook Pro over past year...

    I'm about to do an erase and install after having numerous strange problems on my mid 2009 17" Macbook Pro (Leopard) over the past year, some of which I have opened threads for on these forums.
    They are listed bellow to see if anyone wants to give their final two cents as to what is causing them. They may or might not be related.
    1) I recently found the "Unknown" user classifications at second from top in the user priveleges for the main Macintosh HD folder and "Local Work" – which is my main folder for work.

    2) Last Summer I had some very strange login problems which were well documented in this very long winding thread here:

    3) Can't access iTunes store due to this error code -54. Thread opened here:

    4) Some proceses I've seen in the activity monitor that are possibly a little sketchy are as follows:
    - "netsessionmac1" ... Akamai playing about?
    - "TaskManagerDaemo" ... with "Root" user, ... sounds a bit vague and possible malware according to google?
    5) In Skype I get constant warnings of other computers trying to connect from Little Snitch and Virus Barrier. I get so many of them one after they other pausing skype that I can only use Skype with Little Snitch off. I can only use it late at night also as there seems to be more attempts being blocked in virus barrier during the day that I can't even get past the login:

    Well, any last suggestions much appreciated. Many thanks.

    I suppose your expanding battery problem could have caused some or all of these problems, but most of them sound like software issues.
    If I were you I'd try a few things:
    1. boot from your snow leopard install disk and repair your startup disk with disk utility.
    2. repeat the repairs until no repairs are reported (the toilet paper principle).
    3. repair permissions again.
    4. if the problems persist, trash the preferences files for the misbehaving apps.
    5. if the problems persist, delete the misbehaving apps and reinstall them.
    6. it the shutoffs persist, try a PMU reset.
    7. a PRAM reset would probably be a good idea too.
    8. if none of that works, archive and reinstall.
    there is a freeware utility called applejack that will also do most of this.
    Details on all of these will be readily available with a google search.

  • Photoshop CS4 64 bit crashes with Color Picker

    Hi-
    I have Photoshop CS4 64 bit and 32 bit applications Version 11.02 installed on a Win  7 machine.
    In the 64 bit version when I pick on the color picker or any swatch - the program crashes and freezes-up and I have to use the task manager to quit the program.
    Has anyone else had this problem? I tried re-installing the program, which rolled it back to version 11.0 but the problem persists - but ONLY in the 64 bit version. The color picker in the 32 bit version works just fine.
    HELP!!
    Thanks-
    Cathy

    OMG!! I feel soooo stupid! I discovered the problem.
    I recently installed a second monitor and had been working with it - but today it was turned off.
    The color picker was opening on THE SECOND MONITOR!! So it appeared on the first monitor that the program had stopped responding!
    Well - live and learn!

  • Solved strange problem. Reason: a strange bug?

    Hi,
    recently I had a really strange problem, where I could not work with the enhanced classes from within a web application (but from the dos-prompt, see my prosting "Kodo says classes are not enhanced ..."). Everybody suggested it was a classpath problem, what I also
    thought was the most sensible reason, but all I tried with the classpath didn't seem to work. What I really didn't understand was that it worked before once. I couldn't think of anything that I changed, but now I tried something unreasonable, and it seems to be the reason for
    the problem. What I did was, that in the early stages of my application (when everything was still alright) I used a file package.jdo (in the classes-subdirectory) to enhance the classes. Later I changed to system.jdo in the root-dir of the package hierarchie. Now I went back
    to package.jdo, and it worked. But I can't imagine how this might change the behaviour of Kodo? The content of package.jdo / system.jdo is this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <jdo>
         <package name="de.mediateam.quizmaster.data">
              <class name="User" />
              <class name="Category">
                   <field name="children">
                        <collection element-type="Category" />
                   </field>
                   <field name="questions">
                        <collection element-type="Question" />
                   </field>
              </class>
              <class name="Topic" persistence-capable-superclass="Category" />
              <class name="Test" persistence-capable-superclass="Category">
                   <field name="participants">
                        <collection element-type="User" />
                   </field>
              </class>
              <class name="Question">
                   <field name="prerequisites">
                        <collection element-type="Question" />
                   </field>
              </class>
              <class name="Answer" />
         </package>
    </jdo>
    There is no difference if you remove all classes but the User-class. The problem stays when it is system.jdo.
    So is this a bug with Kodo, or did I miss something in the documentation about differences between package.jdo and system.jdo?
    Cheers
    Martin

    I had system.jdo in the class-hierarchies root directory, but for web-apps this dir (web-context/WEB-INF/classes) doesn't need to be in the classpath. I just tried to copy system.jdo to the same dir as system.prefs and this works.
    It might however be helpful in such situations to get a bit more precise error message (not: "The system could not initialize; the following registered persistent types have not been enhanced: [...]").
    But thanks for your help. Mysterie solved now.
    Martin

    Perhaps system.jdo is not being found by Kodo? system.jdo should be located

    as the classes they contain metadata for. That is the only difference

  • Major problems with Premiere CS4

    Hello there!
    I'm having major problems with CS4. I recently bought a new computer - essentials are as follows:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz
    2 x Kingston 3x2GB, DDR3 1333MHz (=12 GB RAM)
    Ati Radeon HD 5770 v2
    Asus P6T SE, LGA1366, X58, DDR3, ATX
    2 x 500GB, Barracuda 7200.12 (RAID1), system disk
    2 x 1TB Barracuda 7200.12, media disks
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    Adobe CS4 Production Premium + latest updates
    The problem I have has mostly to do with Premiere although I think the rest of Production Premium softwares should be running better on this computer as well.
    For starters, I was highly disappointed when I couldn't view a single HD clip from the Premiere timeline (it was an .m2ts rip from a previously self-burned Bluray disc) at all. Rendering is very slow and even after that the video doesn't run normally, showing just a few individual frames per second. When I point the timeline at a certain spot, it takes many seconds until even that very frame is shown in the monitor window.
    And this is not all - I decided to try with a basic DV AVI clip, previously captured with my PPro 1.5 on my earlier computer (3.2ghz Pentium from 2005). It's a native file so it doesn't even need rendering and still the same problem occurs. With normal playback only about 6-10 frames are shown per second. It's absolutely ridiculous - even my 2004 laptop runs DV AVIs more smoothly with PPro 1.5.
    While I'm running the Premiere, the level of used RAM comes only up to around 24 percents. The processor, then again, comes close to a hundred when play is pressed on the timeline.
    I haven't had such immense problems with other Production Premium softwares (though as I said, I think they should be running faster as well). Otherwise the computer is running smoothly.
    A friend of mine pointed out that the graphics card I'm using isn't on the Adobe website's list of supported ones with Premiere, but afaik it shouldn't even be a graphics card problem with this high-end machinery.
    So - I sure could use some help and ideas about how to get the Premiere working. My main intention for buying a new computer and Adobe CS4 Production Premium was to start HD editing after all! Thanks beforehand!

    Hi
    Yeah, I hope he solves problem and knows how it got solved and tells us all...it's like being a detective !  " Mr Plum did it in the "svchost" room ! "
    I got a little lost on this....
    You are welcome and I'm glad that it paid off so nicely for you. One more  suggestion, if I may: I'm a big fan of a fixed pagefile size. When making a  fresh install of Windows, one of my first actions is to set a fixed pagefile on  a different disk (min=max) before installing anything else on that different  disk and removing the pagefile on the C drive. This will ensure that the  pagefile in on the fastest part of the drive and will never be  fragmented.
    I think it used to be that I made swapfiles, or swapdisks which now seems to be called pagefile.  That in itself is a little confusing semantic wise, because of the use of mempage stuff.  It used to be that base memory was 640k, with the upper memory (to make up 1024 kb) was mostly for drivers and stuff.  If more memory was needed than 640k (an event the inventor never thought possible...  "who could want more than the enormous amount of 640K ?", he said..)..the extended and expanded memory got invented to swap memory pages from that 640k as needed with the rest of RAM.  That's basically correct right ?  Sooooo, I don't know if that still goes on, but I suspect it does, unless someone totally changes the architecture of the computer and cpu and fsb and everything...  but I don't know what is going on nowadays.  Anyway, there were other ways besides windows OS to create virtual memory on the hard drive, and Photoshop was one of the programs that could do that, I think.
    Why MS would want to call the swapdisk virtual memory "pagefile" is beyond me.
    Anyway, be that as it may, I understand that making the pagefile first on a drive so it's close to the center of the drive (heads don't have to travel far to access).  But I haven't added a lot of drives to a system before, and I suspect I will be pretty soon...and this is the part I don't get...
    You add drives and put OS on them?  So they are bootable ?  I've added a drive or two but just formatted and used as more storage but didn't put OS on them.  So that part is confusing...
    Then you take the pagefile off the C: drive ?  Are you then using the new drive as your boot drive and the C: drive is too full to use accept to run the programs already installed ?
    Thanks again !

  • CS4 64-bit stopped working completely

    I have a new computer with wondows 7 and when I installed CS4 it worked perfect in the beginning but after a few weeks PS CS4 64-bit stopped and I could only open the "normal" version.
    If I try to open the 64-bit it says: "Adobe photoshop cs4 does not work anymore, looking for a solution" and after that I can only quit the program.
    Does anybody know what the problem is and how I can fix this?
    thanks in advanced,
    marca

    Sounds like something that was installed or configured is now in conflict with Photoshop CS4 64 bit.
    Did you update anything (e.g., download new video drivers) at the time that Photoshop 64 bit stopped working?
    How long has it been?  Can you consider doing a System Restore back to when it worked?  You might have some stuff to reinstall, but you could check after each to know what it is that's conflicting with Photoshop.
    Hope this helps.
    -Noel
    P.S., Photoshop CS4 64 bit works just fine for me on my fully up-to-date Windows 7 x64 system, so keep heart; it can work.

  • Wacom Intuos III in CS4 64 bit - isn't work at all - help?

    Hello!
    I've just barely built myself a new computer and am running Vista 64bit.  I downloaded the trail version of Photoshop CS4 64 bit to play around and I noticed my tablet (Wacom Intuos 3) is not working in the program.  I move my pen and nothing happens for a long while.  After about 5 seconds, the cursor will move maybe 2cm but is largely unresponsive.  Completely useless for painting/animating.
    Is there anything I can do?  All my photoshop work is tablet based so I'm starting to freak out just a little bit here.  I'd really appreciate any help/advice .  Thanks!

    Thanks for the suggestions.
    I've tried everything listed and unfortunately nothing works.
    I was only using the trail to see if it was worth upgrading now that I have Vista 64 bit, and in the meantime I've re-installed CS3 on my new computer... only to discover my tablet isn't working in CS3 either... I wonder if it's time to panic yet!
    ETA:  I'm positive this isn't a problem with my tablet as it's working fine in other programs on this PC and on my other PC.  Sadly, that pc is an ancient relic so it's not as if I could use any version of CS on it.
    UPDATE:
    Disabling Vista's Tablet PC Input Service in Administrative Tools under the Control Panel is now allowing me to use my tablet in CS (it will at least move now).  However, there is no pressure sensitivity.

  • Photoshop CS4  shuts down only when creating new project.

    I've had CS4 web premium since nov. 08 and everything worked fine until the most recent update from adobe.
    I ONLY have this problem with Photoshop cs4: when creating a new project after selecting the aspects (name, width, hight, etc.) when you press ok it shuts down and no error is given as to why it shut down, it just does.
    opening documents that had been created prior to the last update isn't a problem, I'm able to do everything Photoshop cs4 has to offer.
    I can also open a file started in another program and edit them in PS CS4 (ie: fireworks , or AI).
    but for some reason if I want to start a project in photoshop it just shuts down, never used to happen. any clues? any one else have a similar problem and know how to fix this?
    running on windows XP

    I think you mean a new docuement - Photoshop doesn't have "projects".
    Photoshop shouldn't "shut down" - there should be some message about a crash.
    And the most likely causes at that point are OpenGL (try turning it off in prefs) and your default printer driver (try changing default printers).
