Strange problem on the 9600

So first some background information.
I usually don't run the MBP on the 9600, but day I thought hey might as well, I paid for it. I used it once or twice before to test it out but never more than 4-5 hours. Today I decided to run it the whole day, and really put it though some intense work. Before whenever I payed WoW, after a few mins it would shut itself down, a well documented issue on these forums as well as the apple forums. But today, I decided to keep the fans up, and low and behold, it didn't shut down.
I didn't notice any issues throughout the whole day, until I started up fusion at night to do a quick convert using a program. The blue windows background had pixelated vertical lines across the whole screen. So I thought it was a windows issue. After I logged out of fusion, I noticed a few pixelated lines where ever there was a great contrast between colors. I monitored the cpu temp and it was a steady 70 degrees Celsius.
The vertical lines became much worse, and then the whites started to flash yellow. I decided to restart osx still in 9600 mode, and it didn't help. I went back to 9400 and it fixed it. After 10 mins, I switched back to 9600 and it was gone. But it came back after 10 mins of use.
Any one know what's going on? I've had this MBP for a little under a month now, and I'm sure I won't be able to get it replaced.

a little update
This morning I woke up and the lines were gone, so I decided to run it for a bit, and again after five minutes, they started appearing. Thinking maybe heat was the issue, I cranked up the fans, using smcfancontrol, and the lines started to disappear! So now, I'm pretty sure its the heat caused by the GPU thats causing the issue.
I want to take it into the apple store asap, but I can't until I'm done with exams. Even after I'm done with exams, I need my laptop for work. I'm afraid, since I'm over the exchange period, they will take it for like 2 weeks while I am laptopless. But I'm pretty sure thats what its come to. I don't understand how a 2500 dollar laptop can break down so fast. sigh

Strange problem with the mail app on an iPad

I've got a bit of a strange problem with the mail app on an iPad - it's sending and receiving mail ok but won't let you delete mail. If you keep at it, it appears as if you have deleted mail (though takes a very long time as you just have to keep deleting it over and over again) - but the size of the app still keeps going up - reached 600mb so far, even though there is hardly any mail or attachments (goes up quite a lot each time you try to delete anything) - any idea what's causing this and how I can fix it?
It occasionally comes up with a dialogue panel saying to check my account settings, but I have checked those and they are fine. The little 'loading' icon just keeps spinning constantly too.

go to Settings > Mail > your account > Advanced > Move Discarded Messages Into
and make sure that Deleted Mailbox is ticked, and not Archive Mailbox
You can also adjust how long the deleted mail stays in the trash immediately below that.

Strange problem with the internet connection

Hello,
I've a strange problem with the network connection , I have bought a Iphone 3g in Italy in date 31st
October 2010. Now in Italy I have just subscribed a telephone rental with Wind company, where there is an unlimited internet service. The problem is that in my Iphone there is not the line.
All this is strange because I receive the messages from social networks (like facebook and msn) but I cannot open tha page for the internet connection. I have gone to Apple store and I have tried to put my SIM in an other phone (iphone 3g or 3gs): my SIM is perfectly working.
The problem is only for the internet connection on my phone because wifi connection is good.

I am having a strange problems on the Data entry Forms

A form that has been used since 2005 in an old version of HFM 3.51 was migrated to SYstem 11.1.2.1 in January of 2012 and has been working since then. Suddenly we start having some strange problems. Our response time has been very slow and I am wondering if there were some problems in any of the services. Maybe a service did not start properly related to the WEB forms.
We entered a number in one of the cell to be: 348336349 as soon as we hit enter, the number was formatted to 348,336,349 but when I submit the number it came back as 3. I tried it several times and it did not work, I checked the scaling and that was set blank. One of my user tried it and it did not work. I tried looking into the Preferences and my screen froze. In the meantime one of my user was able to enter the number and was able to refresh it as well. Then she enter another number on a different cell and the same problem occurred it seemed as if it truncated all the digits except for the left most digit, we are unable to figure out how to resolve this issue. The number entereed in the cell is 826,251,218 it stores 8 and loses the rest of the 8 digits. I right click and checlk the properties and it says that it has stored 8 instead of 826,251,218.

Did you find a way to solve your problem ? We have exactly the same for one application and we are using the same version of HFM : 11.1.2.1.
This problem is only about webforms. We can correctly input data through Data Grids or Client 32.

Short code causes a strange problem - About the list again -- please read!

Hi again people. Maybe you remember my project - has a list, that you can search thru using a text field. During the work I got stuck on a strange problem ( Again :-( ) My app has one text field, one combo box, one list and a text field once more. The code should do the following ->
*1. Load the list, no problem with that.*
*2. Show the elements of the list, that match the selected group in the combo box,no problem.*
*3. Search thru the list using the text field,no problem.*
4. When the user selects an element from the list, it should display its info in the second text field. This also works fine, but when after looking at info of one of the elements the things on numbers 2 and 3 ( look up! ) stop working. I must say that everything works fine until user selects an element from the list. I couldnt understand this kind of behavior so I am asking you to help me please.

I am having a strange problem with the awesome bar

The awesome bar/location bar is no longer as awesome as it used to be. When I start typing in an address it seems like it no longer checks through my history and gives a list of possible matches but just gives the stem of an address. For example, if I type in 'goo' it will complete this to 'google.com' if I then append this with an '/a' it will complete this to 'google.com/analytics' but that's as good as it gets, as I say, no list from the history or bookmarks.
I've checked the options and also about:config and all the settings are as they should be, as far as I can tell (and I certainly hadn't changed any of them when it started misbehaving). I've also disabled all extensions and plug-ins.
It's driving my slightly bonkers because I quite often use sites with long addresses and can't remember each of the components of each address. I'd switch to using Chrome but I also use Firebug a fair bit so don't really want to do this.

I imagine the new behaviour may be reversed by changing some pref but I have not looked that up.
Regardless of the new behaviour you seem to have some fault as my awesomebar still gives bookmarked items.
As a troubleshooting step try adding an asterisk in the awesomebar (as first character or anywhere) that should then filter the results in the dropdown list to bookmarked only items, does that work ?

Gah! very strange problem, at the worst possible time. i repeat, gah!

ok, i've had my powerbook for just over a year i think and apart from it eating a dvd when i first had it, its been very reliable, until a couple of months ago when after being on for a few hours the colourful spinny (egg timer alternative thing) would appear for seemingly no reason, and wouldn't dissapear and let me carry on with my work until the laptop was lifted into the air, then when i put it back down it would all start again. at the time i was working in photoshop with 150mb plus size files so i said to myself its probably just too much for the computer to handle for more than a few hours.
irritating but i accepted it and anyway the problem soon went away, until now. this time i can be just browsing the internet or searching for files so its definitely not a problem with the machine lacking power. this problem is made all the more horrifying by the fact that i have a big deadline (my first post graduate job) in under a month and i can do no work for more than half an hour.
i'm praying someone here will say its the battery, or some faulty RAM, them being on the bottonm of the laptop n'all, and that this is a common problem, i doubt it, but i really don't have time to send it for repairs.

Have file permissions ever been repaired from Disk Utility on this machine? I had an issue where I got the spinning beachball every time I booted my computer and this was fixed by repairing permissions.
Going along with the idea that this could be related to the SMS, imagine there's a piece of code that executes at some time that supports the SMS. Then imagine that if you trigger the SMS, the code stops trying to execute and something else runs instead. Now imagine that the permissions on the first file are set incorrectly.
I would try repairing permissions to see if that makes any difference. Any time you get some weird sort of quirky behavior like this, it's a good idea to open disk utility and check the integrity of your drive and also rebuild file permissions on the system volume.

A strange problem using the zip files

I'm currently working on a university project with another student in which we use zip files (using the java ZipFile , and ZipOutputStream classes), we write certain data to a zip file (and verify that it is there by checking the disk). and later we read the zip file, and write it back , appending some data at the end of the file.
although we see the changes actually take place on the disk , in one of the cases when reading the data we don't see the data we have appended before (although it is physically written on the disk).
testing has revealed that this has something to do with the rename command or java being unsynchronized with the data actually on the disk (caching problem?).
we use this code to preform the process:

the data does indeed get lost in the course fo rewriting the file, e assume this is some sort of synchronization issue with java and the file system.
addig enteies to an existing zip file would have been great, if we had it a few weeks ago , we had to make do without this ability , and all of the code is already written and mostly working (except for the problem I mention) and we don't really want to rewrite the zip file access.
additional testing has shown that the data gets lost when we use the rename command.

Months go from 0 to 11. Month 12 is actually month 0 (January) of the next year. See the documentation for the Calendar class at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/util/Calendar.html and the source for Calendar.java.
Also, you should use the named constants for the months instead of numbers, e.g. Calendar.DECEMBER.
Finally, the Calendar class does not attempt to resolve the various fields into milliseconds until one of the following methods is called: get(), getTime(), or getTimeInMillis(). This is explained in the Calendar API docs.
So, in summary, the reason the date is 2002/01 is because months are 0-based. The reason the date changed is because the milliseconds were recomputed when you called get(Calendar.YEAR).

Strange Problem with P67A-GD65

Hi just got this board along with a 2500k and 8gb corsair xms3. Im getting a strange problem with the board as it when its supposed to be rebooting it just shuts down.
Ive flashed it to the latest 1.6 bios before anything just to be safe which went ok, it boots and i select boot from dvd, i get to the part where windows 7 install wants to reboots and it just shuts down, then when i power up it starts win7 install and says there was an error and i must restart installation
Any ideas?
Ive tried clearing the cmos, removed power leads and cmos battery for a good while, even reflashed the bios to no avail so far

Strange problem with Eclipse, JAXB and JBoss

I've been confronted to a very strange problem for the last week, and I still can't manage to fix it. I'm working on a J2EE application, using JBOSS. One of its functionality require the use of XML parsing. For this task, I've used JAXB since everyone in my company use this library. So I've written a small test class, that read my XML file, unmarshal it to java beans, and then write it back to another file (just for testing purpose only, I'm not trying to make the worst "copy" implementation ever done :) .)

I have absolutely no idea why my root (XMLResult) should have no namespace, but some other elements should, and some shouldn't... but that's not the real problem. I've tried to fix this for days, changing namespaces, removing them.. but it didn't work. And then, I once chose to clean my project in Eclipse, and re-run my test. and it worked... !
After some changes to the XSD, I re-run XJC, then recompile my project, and re-deploy it to JBOSS. I ran my test once more and... same error as before. Then, again, I clean the project.. and the test worked.
So when I use the basic compiler for eclipse, everything works, but if I choose to use ant to build and deploy, it won't... even if they are supposed to be the same (run configuration / jre / use same as workspace). Here is an example of XML file I'm trying to read, and the related XSD :

Strange problem: apps are self clonning / duplicating

I have a very strange problem since the last update, if I go to my Applications Folder and press cmd-alt + i (get info) and click over an app while the info window is open, it gets cloned (more than duplicated) because if I trash one of the two displayed apps, both get trashed.

Somehow I believe you have a problem with your finder refreshing windows or not doing something fast enough.
My suggestion, repair permissions
If that does not work, then try the following, in your user Library, go to preferences and change "com.apple.finder.plist" to "com.apple.minder.plist" or anything that is not there.
Either restart the findar via dock or logout and login.
Check to see if things are alright. If they are you can trash the "com.apple.minder.plist" if not, then trash the new "com.apple.finder.plist" and change back the "com.apple.minder.plist" to "com.apple.finder.plist". The problem is elsewhere.

Strange problem with KT4V

I have a strange problem with the board
when booting,the cdrw only blinks and can`t read cd`s.
I have tried swapping to another cd-rom,but still the same problem.I updated to the new bios (1.9)without problems.

Strange Problems with XDK v10 Beta Version

I encounter two strange problems with the new 10.1.0.0.0 Beta release of XDK. I already posted them in the Beta Release Testing Forum, but got no replies, so I decided to start another try here. Maybe anyone can help me...
I upgraded a fine-working XSQL web application from XDK 9.2.0.4 to the new 10.1.0.0.0 Beta release of XDK. Since then, two bugs came up, which are reproducible by will:
1.)
When processing XSQL insert-requests, the error given below is thrown. I already found an entry in the bug database that says that exactly this error should have been fixed since 9.2.0.3 (see http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=230695.1), but no it seems to be there again.

When I reload the same page, it works. However, this is not really a good state for productive use.
Any ideas? After days of research, I'd be very glad for any help.

Once again me:
I guess I should partially revoke for the second topic: The error described above under 2.) seems to be rather a Weblogic versioning problem than a XDK bug, as it only occurs when deploying the application to WebLogic 7.0 (instead of 6.1, which was used before). Maybe I should search the BEA docs for an answer.
However, the first bug is still a problem to me...

Strange problem with new iBook G3 battery

Hi everyone!
I'm facing a strange problem with the new battery I've bought for my 12" iBook G3 800MHz (full specs PowerPC G3 800MHz CPU, 640MB SDRAM 133MHz, DVD-ROM, 20GB HDD, running OSX 10.4.11)..So I've got this laptop two months ago from a friend who wasn't using it anymore, and the original battery was almost dead: 141mAh of maximum charge was giving me about 6 minutes of work. I've recived the new battery yesterday (it was completely charge-less: the indicator lights weren't working), but it has this curious problem: when the iBook is off, it won't charge. I gave it a full charge with the laptop on, up to 100% (4414mAh), and was working fine. But this morning it started going crazy: osx gets bad charge readings, since the percentage jumps randomly from the correct value (and there stays about 2-3 minutes) to 3-4% or 100%. The battery itself is working: only readings are really bad. And there's still the odd "I'm not charging while iBook's off" problem..I'm currently trying to calibrate the battery: could that be the problem? I've already made PRAM, NVRAM and PMU resets..ideas? Thanks
