Strange Purple Icon

I have a new icon appearing on some programs in the top right corner of the screen.
It looks like the MS symbol, but is a black edge with a purple infil. It is perfectly rectangular in shape.
It seems to have soemthing to do with splitting screens.
I cannot quite rationalise if it is a creature of Windows 8.1 or my HP 23tm
It is quite irritating as it sometimes lingers in displays when pop ups have been dealt with.

Hello @JohnDevon,
I understand that you have an icon on your desktop that you have not been able to identify. I recommend that you go to your Control Panel and see if the icon shows up in thePrograms and Features list if so the program name should be right next to it. If you are unable to locate the icon in the Programs and Features could you please take a screen shot of the icon and post it so I can see what you are referring to and I will investigate further..

Finder Icon in Dock has strange purple color

After booting into Snow Leopard the first time, all the icons in my dock had a strange purple hue. After replacing all these icons they now look OK.
Except for the Finder icon itself. Since I cannot replace it it is stuck in this ugly purple color. Does anyone know of a way to change it, reset it or otherwise fix it?

Login to another User account. Does it do it there? If not, try trashing your Dock preferences in your main User account.

Strange finder icon in my dock!

I have a strange Finder icon in my dock that looks like it has a glass box over it. I know it definitely is not supposed to look like that. I have tried the following:
- Restarting
- Moving Dock from side to side to bottom
- Changing wallpaper
- Changing magnification settings

Someone posted this problem a couple of years ago. Doesn't seem like anyone had an answer then.

Strange Voicemail Icons - Displaying 1+ and Voicemail (-1)

I don't know why, but my iPhone recently started displaying a 1+ icon on the phone homescreen, and when I go to my voicemail page, I have the same 1+ icon and up at the top where it reads voicemail, it displays "Voicemail (-1)"
Has anyone seen this problem before? I posted screenshots here:

Let me know if there is an easy solution to resolve this.

reseting the phone is rebooting it
hold the home and sleep/wake button ( the one on top) down at the same time
keep holding them down when the slide to power off appears - after a few seconds more the screen will go blank you can let go - the apple logo will appear and the phone will reboot

Newbie with strange screen icon!

Hi Had my 8520 Curve for a couple of months and it is a real love hate relationship! This phone does so much I just can't work it all! Anyhow I have had a strange uinidentified icon appear at the top of the screen just left of centre past the speaker symbol. It looks like a gold coloured globe with a grid on it and has the number 1 to its immediate left. What is it?

Strange behavior - icon thumbnail instead of image - CC@OSX10.10

Hi,
my CC (@OS X 10.10.3) showing a strange behavior using vanishing point filter.
After defining grid and try to paste the image OS X paste the icon thumbnail instead of the image,

It is probably related to the fact that you are setting the tables row height in the renderer this will fire a render message when the height changes. One height is applied to all rows of a table. This means that is you have images of different heights you are continually changing the tables row height and therefore continually rendereing.
My approach would be to have all the images fit into a set size ( say 64*64 ( with scaling if neccesary ) you could then have a popup show the full size image if required.

Strange "Help Icon" on start up

My G4 won't startup fully. I get a strange blue on white help icon in the upper right corner of the screen and that's it. The full menu bar never finishes coming up. I have tried repairing the disk, first with the install CD then with Disk Warrior. Disk Warrior says if fixed and replace the directory, but the G4 still won't finish starting up fully on restart.
Do I just need to reinstall the OS? or is the something else going on?

I get a strange blue on white help icon in the upper right corner of the screen and that's it.

The blue and white icon is for Spotlight. have you tried starting in safe-mode (hold the shift key when booting up) and see if your able to get the menu bar to launch?

Strange iCal icon in dock.

After a recent update to OS 10.5.8, my iCal application has worked fine, but the icon in the dock looks super strange. I'm not sure how to post a photo of it, but to describe it, the "Jan" and the "10" (of today's date, obviously) are there, but there is no background. The text is just floating in space.

I've tried to restart the application itself, to no avail. Removing and reinserting it on the dock doesn't seem to make a difference either. Any ideas on what this is or how to get the regular icon back?

Hi, Can I use the .plist file removal suggestion for other problems too? Often when I try to edit an event the only way I am able to do so, is by closing and re-opening iCal.
Here's why I think there's a bigger problem lurking in the background. I accidently attached the entire iCal program to an email when learning how to use the Mac. (Don't laugh too hard). And then I threw that email with the program attachment in the trash and deleted it. What can I say, except I panicked, as a brand new user of Mac (with 30 years of PC use before that to traumatize me.)
Honestly, I'm surprised I'm not having more problems with iCal...., yet <?>
On a similar note, can I use this suggestion for any application that's acting up? I read about tossing the plist file in the trash with problematic apps sometime ago, (rebooting to create a pristine fresh file), from a "how to use your Mac" book. But I've been afraid to try it, especially since it said there were 3 .plist files and it wasn't specific about which one to toss.

IPod updating - frozen strange "disconnect icon"

Hi,
i have a problem with a 10 GB iPod with a dock. After connecting it to my PB that uses 10.4.9 and the latest iTunes version i was asked if I wanted to update the iPod.
After agreeing the installation process started upon which I was asked to remove the iPod. Now whenever I try to activate the iPod this strange icon appears that seems to be a "please disconnect icon". U see the part of the USB cable that is connected to the iPod and an arrow.
I have tried resetting the iPod, activating it in disk mode but whatever I try - all I get is that same odd icon.
Can anybody help me, please?

thanx for your reply. Sadly, nothing will work. Trying to reset the iPod connected or disconnected will simply not work. All I see is this odd "disconnect" or "connect" icon.
As this happened during the installation process of a software update I guess it is connected to that. Is there a way to reinstall firmware/software on an iPod?

Strange error icon

I was listening to my iPod this morning when suddenly it stopped working. I tried rebooting it, and when I did, a strange icon appear - an iPod with a sad face in the screen and an exclamation point in a triangle to the left. It said for me to contact Apple Support.
I also noticed that my iPod was shuddering a little, like a wheel inside which is off-balanced.
Is my iPod dead?

Strange status icon

A strange icon showed up in my status bar on my iPhone 4s. I've looked all over the place but I can't find it listed on any of the normal iPhone icon lists. It looks like a green bar with a grey dot on top (see pic below.)

I noticed it seemed to appear in conjunction with Siri saying she was unable to process a request, though that may just be a coincidence.

Strange app icon appearance in library

Hey there,
I noticed a strange difference between the appearance of the app icons in my library (1st screenshot) and on the iTunes store (2nd screenshot). Can somebody else duplicate this issue. Any ideas to solve this?

Yes, this is a glitch in which some of my friends have been having lately With the iOS 8 update. I believe there is no solution to this at them time, but I am sure that Apple will release an update soon with millions of bug fixes.
Does the Application still function correctly though?

Strange AirPort icon

Hi all,
I was using my 15" MacBook Pro with Wireshark to monitor some wireless traffic on my network. I had my AirPort on but not connected to any network (I was using Wireshark in promiscuous mode) when I saw my AirPort status icon in the menu bar change from the unconnected symbol to the strange symbol shown in the screenshot. Any ideas on what it means?
It was there for a few seconds and disappeared. It appears to appear and disappear randomly, hard to tell whether it disappears when I stop the monitoring.
I took a look at this knowledge base article (HT3821) but it's for 10.6, so it's a bit out of date.

Strange Dock icon in System Preferences

Does anyone know why my System Preferences pane is acting strange? Look at the Dock icon.

Hi Matt,
close that system preference, try to delete com.apple.systempreference.plist from your home folder.
Home folder/User > library > preference > com.apple.systempreference.plist
And try to delete this too:
User > Library > Cache > com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
reboot and open your system preference.
