Strange red light

i see strange red light the bottom the my Mac pro black cylinger. its went out about less than 3 sec. so what was that??

Infra red refers to a spectrum of light normally 'invisible' to the naked human eye. Probably, the film is splitting this light, causing some wavelengths of light to interfere with each other and produce interference wavelenghts, which fall into the 'visible' band. Like in radio where two or more signals can combine and produce a third 'interference' signal, so as in light, and indeed sound. They're all waves, just at different frequencies. I'm sure I read another post some time back of a person able to see the light transmission from the IR sensor.
Have you tried looking at it with a digital camera ?, most of these don't include any IR filtration and as the sensors are IR sensitive, they will 'show' the IR transmitted light. (A good way of verifying if your IR remote control is working is to look at it with a digital camera while operating it and looking for the now visible light beam being emitted).
I know I've gone on a bit, but at least I believe you saw a light and I thought I'd offer my take on the causes.

  • Strange red light in back of the system.

    Hello everyone,
I just received today my new-like condition G5 Quad today and I have a question regarding the red light in the back. Where I see the digital audio ports I noticed a red light on. Is this call for concern, or is this normal? Also, the startup chime is working through the internal speaker and not through my main speakers. Is there a work around for this?
    Nadav

Is the red light coming out of the jack or is it inside of the machine? If inside the machine, this may be helpful: About the Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) diagnostic LEDs
I believe that the startup sound coming from the internal speaker is just the way it is.

  • IPhone dead and won't charge - strange dim red light

    Good morning,
I was talking with my sister last night when my IPhone phone shut off.  I assumed that my battery died so I put it on the charger.  When I went back to get my phone off the charger I noticed that it did not charge at all.  I tried doing a reset holding down the home key and the shut off key together and it still won't turn on.  I left it on the charger overnight and this morning it is still dead.  I noticed this morning in the dark that I can see a very low dim red light by the ear piece speaker at the top of the phone.
At this point, I am at a complete loss.  I have no idea what to do.  We leave on vacation tomorrow and at this point, I have no phone.  Very scary for me since we are going to Florida and my oldest daughter is going to California.  I need to be in contact with her while she is gone.    Any help and good news is much needed!
Thank you so much for taking time to read this post!
    Sincerely,
    Angela

I would say when an iPhone normally dies it when plugged in does eventually give you an icon like an empty battery indicator then later I would say it turns on with an apple. If your under warrenty or with any extended warrenty insurance. I would call Verizon and say that your phone won't turn on at all and you want a replacement . It should take a day to get or go to apple and ask to replace.

  • A strange flashing red light problem on the 8100.

    Blackberry Pearl 8100
Problem: Usually after using it for the first time after several hours of non-use it will shut off unexpectedly, flash me the red light twice, and then allow me to turn it back on to a long load up. Battery power is fine. No data loss. No unexpected behavior beyond that.
    Should I wipe it?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have never seen or heard of a 2008 shipping with, or supporting, 512MB DIMMs, I guess you may try, but then those would be the slower 667MHz FBDIMMs probably, and not 800MHz.
It would have shipped with 2 x 1GB with one on each Riser, but then to install a full set, move one, and install pairs on a Riser.
People have had bad memory show with half its correct amount.

  • Help! red light from headphone jack and strange sound issues!

Help! I use my baby for listening to music and watching DVDs almost constantly when I'm working, and just the other day it started doing something really odd whenever I start doing something that involves sound!
If I'm listening to a song, watching a DVD, playing a game, whatever, as long as it involves sound it does this. What happens is, it'll be fine for up to a minute, and then it starts making this staticky skipping noise and losing the tracking on whatever it is I'm doing (game, song, DVD, etc.). This happens whether I've got headphones or speakers plugged in, or I'm using the laptop speakers. Also, a red light flashes from INSIDE the headphone jack with every staticky noise.
Everything else works fine. The problem doesn't appear as long as I'm not doing anything using sound, and it goes away about a minute after I stop using sound when it appears. It just started doing this yesterday, which was an entirely uneventful day and no different from normal. I traveled, but the laptop stayed in its case the whole time and didn't get dropped or jostled or anything.
I depend on my music to keep me sane! I can use my iPod for now, but I've got finals coming up and I need to use music while I study! HELP!

if the red light is flashing at the output, it means that the computer is trying to output a digital optical signal.. which would explain why your audio is cutting in and out, cos it's flipping randomly between digital out and built in speaker, which means the speaker is being intermittently muted.
the reason for this is that the sensor in your audio output port is dodgy. this sensor is supposed to detect when you have a digital optical cable connected, and yours seems to just be going a bit nuts. fraid the only way to get it properly sorted is to take it in for a service.

  • Boot Camp Windows 7 do not recognise wifi, ethernet, USB ports and has a scary red light in audio jack output!

    Hi!
I have just tried to install Windows 7 x86 version on my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and a couple of strange things start appearing:
        1. On the Boot Camp Assistant first screen, I tried to download the drivers and after about 15min the system responding that the server did not responded.
        2. I went further and installed the Win7 without making the ISO as requested by the assistant and with no driver burned on a CD
        3. After installed the Win7 I noticed that it did not recognise the WIFI in my home nor any other in the area;
        4. There is a freaking RED LIGHT coming from my Audio jack output that I have never seen in my life... and that scares me!
        5. The USB ports does not works on Win7 side !
        6. The ethernet does not work, Win7 just don´t recognise it...
        7. There is no Boot Camp on Win7 side to be deployed...
Basically I will use Windows to run Quicken for Windows, but I can´t acces my backups on Dropbox because I do not have intercet access, and obviously I am not going to be able to back up new files.
Is there someone able to help me?
    I have:Boot Camp 5.0.0 / Win7 Ultimate x86 / MacBook 2,5Ghz Intel Core i5 MID-2012 / Memories 4GB amd 500GB/ OS X 10.8.1 / Boot Camp partition with 50Gb for Windows.
    I appreciate all help!

Did you make sure to install the Bootcamp utilities after installing Windows? They can be found in the boot disk/usb flash that Bootcamp creates (check for a folder called "Windows Support").These should enable sound/video/trackpad/etc.to work with full functionaliity under Windows (you may need to reboot after doing so). After installing them, you may also want to run Windows Update to make sure you get the latest drivers.
As far as the red light, many models of Macbook Pros are equipped with a digital Audio out. You can either use the standard analog 3.5mm Stereo jack (standard headphone connector), a 3.5mm miniSPDIF digital coax or miniTOSLINK digital optical cable (hence the red light). Windows may not know how to handle to audio out port until the proper drivers are installed and it may be enabling the digital signal by default. Installing the drivers mentioned above should set this back to normal operation.
    hope this helps.
    Toodles!

  • Internal speakers not shown in sound output, no audio jack red light

    Hellooo!
So basically my internal speakers in my mid-2009 Macbook pro are not working. When i try and change the volume i am getting the greyed out speaker symbol. Strangely, when a pair of headphones are plugged into the audio port and set to 'audio input' the internal speakers show up in system prefs, and the sound start working! When the headphones are removed it reverts back to not working again. I'm not getting the red light in the audio port.
This must be a software problem as they physically work when headphones are plugged in and i can hear the chime on startup.
I have tried repairing disk permissions,  resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, re-installing OSX and the whole toothpick in the audio port thing.
I dont really want to have to take it to apple but I dont have any options left. My mac is pretty old, so i dont feel it is worth spending loads of money on it should the motherboard need replacing or anything similarly costly.
Has anyone else had similar problems, or a solution?

    One more suggestion.
Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

  • Audio don't work and lighted red light

I am having a problem that is leaving worried me. Mine iMac MC309BZ/A, simply stopped to function the sound. I verified and the red light is lighted in the output of audio. The stranger is that, aproximadamente the 7 hours before, I assisted a film and functioned normally, without problems some. The sound icon is grey. Another strange thing is that when I bind, it touches the opening sound. What it makes me to think that the problem is not in the hardware. Already I made reset in the NVRAM and the PRAM.
    From now I am thankful.

    Hello,
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back

  • IMac G5 project, now red light, overheating

So, I have this iMac G5 which has been quite problematic. It had couple bad capacitors so first I replaced few. Then it had artifacts, replaced even more, then it threw kernel panics, ended up replacing all caps. Now there are no artifacts or kernel panics, but the machin still hangs after operating some time. After that it has problems booting up, fans sometimes revving up and then doing while booting. I just now remembered that there was fourth led which would indicate overheating and yes, this led is lit when it does that weird fan revving. It does it usually only if the machine has first been on for a while, then crashed and after that when I try to power it up again. Apparently something is overheating and the machine cuts power off to prevent damage. I have tried to reset PRAM, SMU and also did those three codes in open firmware so all basic voodoo is done.
I find it strange that it does overheat even when I tried with the back cover off. Could it be a sad case that integrated heat sensor somewhere on the motherboard is damaged? As far as I know there are three sensors available, one for the processor, one external for the hard disk (gonna try unplugging that) and one inside the hard disk itself. Atleast there is three values that Temperature Monitor can detect.
Does anyone know if that red light appears only if the processor overheats or are there other sensors which affect? Any tips in general?

Well update to this. It seems now that the problem really is overheating. I tried to create shim between the GPU and the heatsink, I don't have copper plate (yet) so it is far from being optimal, I used couple layers of thermal conductive mat. After this the machine seemed to become stable atleast for that one time, I used it half an hour and it crashed only after I installed version update of OS X and tried to reboot. On next boot attempt there was again red led and fans max. but after a brief moment it booted. I noticed that even when I am running the machine with the back cover off and not doing anything disk intensive, the hard disk temperature is at 50 C which seems very high.
Then I decided to bring in normal fan (that you use to cool yourself) and adjust it blow directly to hard disk and at the GPU same time. After doing this (and of course the "shim" still in place) it seems that the machine is rock solid, played 3D games, surfed internet, ran Xbench and Rember and rebooted 3-4 times without the red led. Today I tried again with the fan on like before and the machine works just fine. Maybe the thermal material between the GPU and heatsink needs to be replaced or proper kind of shim applied. This thermal pad is still quite thick so if it has dried or something it might be that there has not really been connection with the heatsink at all and/or the real problem is the temperature of the hard disk. Even with the fan the CPU reaches 80C under full load so situation has not changed for the CPU and I think the problem is not CPU related.
EDIT: For comparison my Macbook Pro's hard disk shows temperature to be 38C and the machine has been on for couple hours and of course the disk is inside the case so those iMac HD temperatures seems really high in my opinion.

  • Red light stops blinking and then stays solid

This one is strange. I open an email on my BB and the red light stops blinking and then stays solid for about 5 minutes. It doesnt go off when I close the email either.
Took the battery out to see if that would clear it but it still doing it.
    Any thoughts ?????

    Hi Willsie,
Sounds like when the red light is solid, the device is still usable? Assuming this is correct, I have three questions for you:
    1. Can you you confirm this problem ONLY happens when you open up emails in the Messages application?
    2. Can you tell us the application version you are running from (OPTIONS > ABOUT)?
    3. Also, which third party applications do you have installed?
    tnx

  • My G5 Won't Start Up - I see a red light for a quick second, no noise, nada

    Hey everyone,
I had trouble with my G5 a few months ago and I wanted to fix it so I posted this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2319811&stqc=true
Anyway, I finally finished moving and I set up all the components of the computer and tried to boot it to fix it but it wouldn't turn on at all. The connections are all alright, as are the cables, but when I press the power button the white button flashes for a 1 second followed by a red light. No noise from within the computer except for a strange clicking noise that sounds like power trying to be sent somewhere.
If you can help me I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Does it Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup)?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • Seven Drives with Red Lights; Admin won't Connect

We are setting up an XServe RAID tonight for the first time. Connected to G5 Quad, using the smaller Fiber Channel connector cable. Using 500 gig drives. New drives, but used Xserve, from SmallDog.
    1. When we open RAID ADMIN, we get no choices for IP Address.
    2. If it's worth anything, we have a Quadro 4500 video card in there. Takes up two slots. (Possible concern about power consumption).
    3. We have the Apple Fiber Card in the topmost slot in the G5, Slot #4. That slot is labeled 4x.
    4. We have seven drives installed in the left side of the xServe RAID. All seven drives show the red failure light. The Security switch is set to unlock.
    5. We do not know what version of the firmware we're running, because when we do ADD SYSTEM, we can't add the System at all. We get "Connection Failure".
    Any thoughts? Thank you.

We are setting up an XServe RAID tonight for the
first time. Connected to G5 Quad, using the smaller
Fiber Channel connector cable. Using 500 gig drives.
New drives, but used Xserve, from SmallDog.
In this case, Xserve would not affect the status or function of the Xserve RAID.
    1. When we open RAID ADMIN, we get no choices for IP
    Address.
I assume what you mean is you did an 'add' in RAID ADMIN and cannot find any Xserve RAID listed so you cannot select an Xserve RAID to be included. Out of the box, Xserve RAID should be set to provide a default address through Bonjour or if there is an DHCP server on the network, it will receive a DHCP address.
You may setup a direct ethernet connection between your mac and the Xserve RAID network port and see if it's a network switch issue (bonjour only works within the same network)
The next step is you may need to reset the raid controller (on Xserve RAID). If the array is preconfigured with a static ip address (normally this should NOT be the case), then you may need to reset the controller.

    2. If it's worth anything, we have a Quadro 4500

    concern about power consumption).
    This should be fine.

    This is very strange.
Have you tried to power off the array, pull out each drives and make sure the connector is in good condition gently insert each drive back. If possible, reseat the controller module at the back of the array.
    5. We do not know what version of the firmware we're
running, because when we do ADD SYSTEM, we can't add
the System at all. We get "Connection Failure".
Correct but the array should not give you red light even if the firmware is not up to date. (well, anything can happen but I have not seen it yet.)
    Any thoughts? Thank you.

  • Power ON/OFF computer - click sound with red light?

    Greetings,
when I power ON my Mac Pro, a small red light blips inside my computer and there's some sort of "click" sound, it is as if I unplug an active device from a power outlet. The same thing happens when I power OFF my Mac Pro. Is that normal?

Wow that's strange, I just had the same thing after disassembling my MacPro to clean the CPU heat sinks.
Is the red light on one of the RAM riser cards, if it is there a 4 red LEDs that correspond to the RAM slots on the card. If either LED 1 or 2 are blinking, try reseating the inner pair of RAM chips, if LED 3 or 4 are blinking try reseating the outer pair on that card.
If that does not work try removing the pair in question, but be sure to leave the remaining pair in the inner 2 slots. You may have had a RAM chip go bad.
    Hopefully this helps.

  • Belgian Problem : Four Red Lights

    Hello everyone,
I think the "Four Red Lights on D-Bracket" problem is back...  ;(
I have been running a MSI KT3 Ultra with an Athlon XP 1700+ (0,18 µm) coupled with a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ for months now without any problems.
But yesterday my system hung after a few minutes work. As it was the FIRST one I got with this card, I was a little bit surprised but finally thought this could happen even to the best ones...
I simply rebooted but then had to realize there was going wrong with it. My system hangs during the initialisation of my SCSI devices... strange... really strange. I powered off my computer, wait a few minutes and restarted it. And guess what? Black screen with 4 red lights on D-Bracket.
I read the manual and found out that my CPU was wrong. That's really strange because I did not modify anything (no overclocking by the way!)...
I tried to find out what the problem could be by removing unnecessary components (like SCSI adapter card, sound card, network card,...), by clearing CMOS (after I read this nice forum), by re-installing my CPU (with fresh thermal compound) but did not resolve the problem
Another evidence that my system was correctly installed was the temperature I got during the past months : about 38°C
Do you think my motherboard simply died?  8o
    Thanks for your help

I've experienced the four red led lights too. It happened right after I changed the BIOS settings for my CPU internal timing from 'Normal' to 'Ultra'. After I saved the setting, my monitor went blank.
I finally solved it after 2 days. I tried multiple times in clearing the Bios to no avail (5x). So even though MSI says the four led lights is because of a 'damaged or mis-installed proc' it's sometimes not the case.
    1. I unplugged the power cable from the PSU
    2. I took out the CMOS battery
    3. I put the jumper on 'clear' bios.
I went to work for a 10 hour period.
When I got back home, I did the steps below per a forum post I read at work.
    4. I press and held the case 'Reset' button for about 30 secs (supposely, it would drain the capacitors)
    5. Then I set the Bios jumper back to normal setting.
    6. Then I press the 'Reset' button for about 20 more secs.
    7. I put the CMOS battery back in.
    8. I plugged the power cable backup and crossed my fingers.
I booted up and I still saw four led lights, then the lower right one changed to green and I knew I was in business.
My theory is that somehow, the Bios still retained the 'Turbo' settings when I set the jumpers to clear the Bios multiple times. I think over the period of one day w/ out the battery the BIOS made have defaulted back to the normal settings and/or the addition pressing the reset button drained the capacitor and reset the BIOS.
