I see strange volume name for the SD card ... M-^IPNG^M^J^Z^J in my case.  Please refer to attached screenshot.  Anyone has something similar?  How to change the name?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

This doesn't happen for me. If i remove the volume label on my SD it will instead display "SD Card" there. If i set the volume label to "NO NAME" it will also display "SD Card". My PC does the same thing, removing the label and setting it to "NO NAME" gives the same result in explorer.
Could it perhaps be that the volume label was set incorrectly on your SD card? Try changing it back and see what happens.
I don't know of any way to change it from the phone.

  • Mount points in fstab

    I'm sure this isn't limited to Mavericks, but that is what I'm currently working with.
    I want to mount a hard disk (volume) on a directory of my choosing. AFAIK this can be done in fstab and anything thus specified is ignored by OSX's other rmounting processes, so it should work.
    The problem I'm having is that the mount point has a space in its name and this CANNOT be changed as something else relies on that exact name. Of course by default, a space in the mount point in fstab will cause problems as it will be seen as a separator, so I quoted the entire path string. Double or single quotes both still cause problems. I tried a back slash in front of the space, but that's no better.
    I have since read in mumerous places that there is this problem, but it can be avoided and the solution I have seen is to instead use the octal \040. Aha I thought, this looks promising, but no, there is still a problem with the mount point name.
    Anyone any thoughts on this, why \040 doesn't work and/or any other solutions?

    Read the guides from Oracle and Linux. I've downloaded a couple of guides (it's not easy to find them). Start with Installation and Admin guides. They will refer to other guides where you can read more about OFA. Read the Linux guides/man pages about mount, fstab, fdisk and partitioning. BTW, I only made 2 partitions for Oracle. One for the system, and one for the data (I think it's enough, because on my system there will be only one database).

  • Fixed mount points for USB disks via HAL

    I've been trying to figure this out on my own but I've been able to achieve my goal.
    I want to setup my system so that it auto-mounts a specific hard drive and makes its contents available at a specific file system location.
    I'd love to do that by identifying my hard drives by UUID or ID and assigning each one a different mount point.
    I've tried the approach described in the ArchWiki:
    File: /etc/hal/fdi/policy/20-$device_name.fdi
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="volume.uuid" string="$device_uuid">
    <merge key="volume.label" type="string">$device_name</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL#About_volumes_mount_points
    and this one:
    <device>
    <match key="info.udi" string="/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_E265_5E6A">
    <merge key="volume.policy.desired_mount_point" type="string">ipod</merge>
    <merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.iocharset=iso8859-15" type="bool">true</merge>
    <merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.sync" type="bool">true</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    http://www.mythic-beasts.com/~mark/random/hal/
    I restart HAL each time I change the configuration of the 20-$device_name.fdi or preferences.fdi (the second code example). Nothing at all can be found in /var/log/messages. It just silently refuses to mount the devices.
    It works okay without these configurations and HAL auto-mount all these hard drives but only if I do not mess with the configs in /etc/hal/fdi/policy.
    Can someone please explain what could be wrong here?

    Dehir wrote:Im actually having similar difficulties. Have created etc/hal/fdi/policy/20-$device_name.fdi names for each device. But when im trying mount them from pcmanfm they get mounted every single time by random order, which is not that i want. Id prefer hal mounting over fstab but still want them to be mounted with specific names.
    Yeah, that's the whole point - I want to have it done automatically with only one condition - fixed mount point names.

  • Unexpected disconnection external disk and different mount points

    Dear community,
    I have an application that needs to read and write data from an external disk called "external"
    If the volume is accidentally unmounted by unproperly pluggin it off), it will remount as "external_1" in the terminal,
    and my app won't see it as the original valid destination.
    According to this documentation:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203258
    it needs a reboot to be solved, optionally removing the wrong unused mount points before rebooting.
    Would there be a way to force OSX remounting the volume on the original mount point automatically?
    or checking the disk UUID and bypassing the different mount point name (app or os level?)
    Thanks for any clue on that.

  • Determining disk image mount point

    Is there a command line util that I can use to determine the name of the disk image as mounted on the desktop? This question presumes the actual mount point name is not the same as the disk image name.

    Parsing hdiutil info output seems to work here:
    hdiutil info | awk -F'/Volumes/' '/Apple_HFS/ {print $2}'

  • Using "nested" Mount Points within Mount Points to add additional LUNs to a server

    I realize that this might or might not be common and I haven't read or seen anything about this. So here goes...
    No clustering. Just a strightup adding LUNs to a server mount point.
    I have no issues adding a lun to a mount point (folder on the C-Drive) called MountPoint1. I can build a folder within MountPoint1 and add another LUN to a mountpoint within the first called NestedMountPoint1. I can build another folder within NestedMountPoint1
    and add another LUN to a mountpoint within the second called NestedMountPoint2.
    c:\MountPoiint1 (500GB)
       |-NestedMountPoint1 (300GB)
          |-NestedMountPoint2 (300GB)
    First, do people do this? (Is it a normal practice?) (Recommended?)
    Second, If it is a normal practice, Is there a limit on how many you can nest?
    I can see doing this to add storage to a drive. BUT...

    Hi,
    A mount point is just a logical way to present drives to a system without using drive letters.  You can nest mount points, but it is recommended to use the root (host) volume exclusively for mount points. The root volume is the volume that is hosting
    the mount points. This greatly reduces the time that it takes to restore access to the mounted volumes if you have to run a chkdsk. This also reduces the time that it takes to restore from backup on the host volume.

  • Changing Oracle Mount Point After Installation Is Completed.

    How easy is it to change an Oracle Mount Point once an SAP installation has been completed?  Reason I am asking, is another Basis person believes it's easier to wipe the partition and reinstall.

    Hello,
    Yes this is OK (for SAP/Oracle) and easy for unix team too. You please shut down SAP and Oracle completely and Unix expert can change the file system. But be careful that the exact mount point 'name' should remain intact. For e.g. '/oracle/SID' is a mount point and if you want to change the file system or mount this particular 'directory' onto a different filesystem/partition then the 'mount point name' i.e. 'oracle/SID' should remain same - as required by oracle/sap to run.
    Thanks

  • CFS mount point of RAC DB

    Hi All,
    I am using a 11gR2 cluster where RAC DB is created on CFS. I know the RAC DB name, Is there any command or file which will tell me the CFS mount point name that RAC DB is using.
    Thanks.
    Edited by: user11305560 on Oct 22, 2010 12:30 AM

    +(adding to Rajesh comments)+
    Is ASM used? If so, you can use sqlplus to connect to the ASM instance and query the v$asm_file view.
    If you for example only have root access and do not want to be bothered using Oracle commands to determine the location(s) of the file, you can use ps to identify an Oracle database write process (e.g. <i>ps -fu oracle | grep dbw</i>) and then use the lsof (list of files) command on the process to list the filenames (and devices) opened by the process (e.g. <i>lsof -p <pid></i>).
    If ASM diskgroups or raw devices are used, you will notice these as block (BLK) devices in the lsof output listing.
    Of course, the mount command can also be used to list the mount points for clustered file systems like ACFS and OCFS.

  • Name : leopard Type : Volume  Disk Identifier : disk1s2 Mount Point

    Early in October, after installing SL and the first upgrade, I began experiencing colour flashes on transitions on slideshow projects created in iMovie '09. I contacted Apple Support and began working with one of the technicians. She reported that after viewing a short sample slideshow/movie that I sent her, Apple engineers concluded that something in SL was interfering with the video card. So far, no fix from Apple.
    One workaround suggested by a reader on these support discussions was to install Leopard on an external drive and work with iMovie from there. My contact person helped me connect and set up the external drive. She also talked me through steps that allowed me to continue using iMovie '09, my photos in iPhoto, and the iTunes Music Library on my internal drive to build my slideshows and have all of this 'show up' on the external drive. Really, all I was doing on the external drive was using iMovie to export my project and create a *.mov file.
    Until three days ago, I hadn't tried to access the external drive for about a month and I found that I couldn't. I called Apple Support again for help. In the end, the person I was working with suggested that he would get in touch with my first contact to see if written instructions could be sent to me so that I could repeat her process. At the same time, he suggested I ask for help here. When I first noticed the problem, the icon for the external drive was on my desktop; today it isn't. Below is the information that is relevant (I hope).

    I have no idea what is wrong or what to do now. I do know that the first thing is to reformat the drive, but I don't know how to do that. The second thing will be to install all the upgrades so that both internal and external drives are exactly the same - that I can manage! The third thing is to figure out how to get back to the original set up.
    If anyone can help or point me to sites that will tell me how to do any or all of this, I will be most appreciative.

    {quote:}I wanted help with two things: (1) getting the external HD back up and (2) reestablishing the connections that had been made so that iMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes pointed back to those applications and libraries on the internal HD. In other words, before I lost the connection to the external HD, when I clicked on iMovie on the external HD, what opened was iMovie on the internal HD, with all of my projects available. Same with the other two.{quote}
    To be honest I'm not sure why you were opening an Applications from the External HD and pointing it to the Library on the Internal HD? Seem's like it would be a lot simpler and easier just to open and run everything right from the Internal HD. Some folk's will open and run the Application from there Internal HD and then point it to the Library on the External HD, but you need to be very careful doing so because if the external HD fails then you lose your data.
    {quote:}Until about 3 hours ago, I couldn't use Disk Utility to erase the external HD and start over because the icon wasn't showing in the Devices panel. I have been at this all day and finally the icon did appear and I erased the external drive. After 4 attempts to reinstall Leopard OS, that, too finally worked. I have now reinstalled iLife '09 and all of the necessary upgrades.{quote}
    Not sure why you lost the connection to the External HD, could be just a bad connection or a early warning sign for a failing drive?
    {quote:}I knew that if I erased the external HD I would lose all of the connections I had between the two drives. That was why I was hoping for a way to fix it without erasing. So now I need help with (2) above: reestablishing those connections. I'm afraid I don't understand partitioning - what it is or what it does. If you have time to explain it to me, I will certainly give it a try.{quote}
    I think you need to run everything from your Internal HD and only use the External HD as a backup drive either with Time Machine or on the great advise of elmac using SuperDuper.
    As for Partitioning and Formatting I can give you some article's to study, but would suggest not fussing or experimenting unless you had a second External HD to play around with.

  • Mount point in /volumes won't delete when unmounting

    I have latest Mavericks on my rMBP (10.9.4). The issue I'm having has been going on for a while now. Basically when I unmount my external RAID array upon sleep with Jettison (or without it) the mount point in /Volumes folder doesn't get deleted prompting incremented names after I remount the drive such as /Volumes/drive1, /Volumes/drive2, /Volumes/drive3, etc. I can delete names manually but it's a bit of a pain, plus certain programs depend on that drive. Is there anything that can be done here?
    If it helps, my drive is actually NTFS but I modified the OS to write to it and it seems to work fine for a while now. Thanks.

    If the steps in the article don't do the trick, post to the server forums.

    Any help here is appreciated

    Unfortunately, I don't have a fix, but I have the same problem with a shared volume from OS X server. I have three copies of the volume 'Shared Files 2'. Two of the copies are there even when the volume is not mounted and the actual mount gets names 'Shared Files 2-2'. This causes some things not to work properly. For example, applications will not return to the previously selected directory on that volume. I noticed the duplicate soon after this problem began (when there was only one duplicate), and now there are two duplicates.

  • Impossible removal of phantom mount points in /Volumes

    Hi all,
    I am experiencing a problem for which I can't find a solution (of course I wouldn't ask if not so…). I am using both a Macbook Intel and an Imac Intel, with virtual linux machines on both through parallels desktop. I am sharing large datasets on a fat32 disk that I use either natively on the mac or virtually inside the VM on both the Macbook or the iMac. My problem is that in the /Volumes folder (of both computers) the mount points do not disappear when the hard drive is ejected. As it is a My_Passport from WD, mounts points accumulates as /Volumes/My_Passport 1, /Volumes/My_Passport 2 and so on. The problem is that I use some scripts that expect the HD to have a specific name.
    I have tried all solutions to remove these "phantom" mount points, disktool, diskutil on the command line using the different options, but nothing actually remove these (of course I can modify my scripts to deal with this but it is quite not an elegant solution).
    Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this ?
    Great thanks,
    Eric

    I am having the same problem with two external drives that are both formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (HFS Plus). Is there nobody that knows how to get rid of these phantom mounts?
    OrangeKay, do you have any suggestions for solving this? In my case, I am using rsync to sync the data on one drive to the other drive, but have to keep changing the names of the drives to account for the phantom mounts, just to back up my data.
    Any suggestions at all are appreciated.

  • How do I add volume and change mount point of groups?

    how do you add an external volume and change the mount point for users and groups?

    There are no volume automation curves in the iPad version of GarageBand, but you can add a fade-out:
    http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/2.0/index.html#chs2a762fad
    Add a fade-out
    You can add an automatic fade-out to the end of a song. When you turn on Fade Out, the last ten seconds of the song fade to silence. If you extend the last section by adding or moving regions, the fade-out adjusts to the new end of the song. You hear the fade-out when you play or share the song, but not while recording.
    Open the song settings.
    Turn Fade Out on.
    Tap Fade Out again to turn off the automatic fade-out.
