Strange Serial Number

What does it mean when my serial number shows up as Serial Number SystemSeumb? I've never seen that before.

Where do you see that, from about this mac > more info (system profiler)?

did you have your macbook logicboard replace before that serial number become weird? IF that so, maybe the technician forget to "flash" your serial number to your new logic board. Consult apple for that matter.

  • Strange serial number -- does it matter??

    I've just bought a second-hand 20" iMac (early 2006) that has been refurbished by a local Apple dealer -- it seems to run fine but I noticed that the Serial Number as shown in both System Profiler and "About This Mac" is weird: it is "SystemSeumb".
    Has anyone else come across this? I've restarted, repaired permissions, etc. -- no change. Should I worry about it, i.e. does it indicate something about to fail? Any idea what might be causing it, or what to do to fix it??
    NB: There is a comment in these discussions that serial numbers can be changed during refurbishment, but if so I assume they will still look like normal serial numbers, right?
    Running 10.4.4 (not updated to 10.4.8 yet).

    When a system has its logic board replaced, the serial number is generally not programmed into it. If it is refurbished by Apple it will probably have a serial number in that location, but if the dealer has refurbished it, it is less likely.
    In this case, refurbish is probably code for "a high value customer bought this, it broke, we gave them a new one to keep them happy, now we've fixed this one and we're trying to make some of our money back"
    You can find the serial number for your iMac on the base of the "foot" or on the box it came with.

    I am trying to sell my laptop and have had a few people inquire about purchasing it.  They have asked for the model number and/or serial number.  Is there any danger in giving this information out?  Can they access personal information on my laptop even though it isnt in their possession? 

    You can give them the model number and the last three characters of the serial number(or four for a 12-character one); appending either to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= will reveal the model's specifications. They won't be able to access personal information on it.

  • Adobe Updates not downloading - available but "try again later" error with link to "serial number not qualifying"

    I just upgraded computers (PC w/Windows 8 64 bit) and I did a fresh install of my copy of Adobe Photoshop CS5 (along with Bridge and Camera Raw).
    The install asked for serial numbers which I provided and the installation was a success - however, I can not view full resolution images, only thumbs
    in Bridge and I can not open RAW files from my Canon 5D Mark III (though, I can my files with the older Canon 7D).  I WAS able to view and work with
    the newer RAW files on the older computer.
    Under "Help", "Updates", it says they are available but after appearing to upload to my computers, I get this:

    What gives?  It was a qualifying product a few months back.  Even if Adobe stopped supporting CS5 (???), I should still have access to past updates
    that I had already once received. 
    I tried 3 times in 1 hour - no luck in getting back to a state I was in only yesterday, and months earlier.

    Apparently, Adobe has very little interest in it's past customers unless they shell out more cash.
    I have never seen such a move as this - to REMOVE support and older update links off the Web in an effort to force an upgrade.
    My tech support stated (after first stating I was simply out of luck) that he was graciously allowed to make an exception and provided me with a link to support that is strangely
    hidden and /or removed from public access.

  • My Lightroom 5 upgrade serial number not showing up on My Products page; chat support useless

    I purchased a Lightroom 5 upgrade license on July 25th.  I didn't receive a confirmation email but my serial number was displayed on the order summary page after purchase.  I tried registering the serial number repeatedly through the My Products page but for some reason the serial number wasn't showing up, even though the registration process reported a successful result.  Furthermore, Adobe products bought from the Adobe store should automatically be registered according to Adobe's web site.  Apparently this must have failed.  I need to reinstall Lightroom 5 but the serial number is still not showing up on the My Products page.  I just spent an extremely frustrating hour with Adobe "Live" chat who did nothing but send me in circles and repeat the same canned responses over and over again.
    I'm currently on hold with "phone support" but I'm not optimistic as I've been on hold for 28 minutes.  The only other support option was a link to this forum, hence this post.  Hopefully someone from Adobe can retrieve my serial number and contact me.  Failing this my only other option will be to contact VISA and open a claim.

    OK, I was able to recover my previous system's image and thankfully it appears you can get the serial number from Help->System Info.  I attempted to register the serial number again via the My Products page and while it indicated that the registration was successful, we'll see.  At least I should be able to install LR5 on my new machine now.
    Edit:  I also just discovered that the serial number is listed under My Orders, but not under My Products.  Weird.  In my defence , I never thought to check My Order history because I never received a confirmation email and the order wasn't listed after purchase...even as late as mid-August (when I last checked.)  Very strange but it's all good now.
    Edit #2: OK now I just feel silly.  I just received an email from Naveen with an actual support case AND the correct serial number.  So, I stand corrected.  The Live Chat process still felt incredibly long with some seemingly canned/automated responses but, in all fairness, he did get back to me.  Thank goodness I washed both feet today...

  • HT4061 I can't use my ipad mini.  All buttons are frozen including the on and off, can't even find the serial number, can't see it on the back, can't find it under settings because no buttons will work.  Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

    My ipad mini is frozen and won't allow me to use any buttons.  I can't access settings to get the serial number for Apple Support and I can't read the serial number from the back.  It's too small and shadowy.  There is a message that reads "ICloud Backup--This ipad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks.  Back ups happen when this ipad is plugged in,locked, and connected to Wi-Fi."
    It won't allow me to shut if off using the on and off button.  I stuck a paper clip into the tiny reset button, but nothing happens.
    Has anyone else had this problem?  Please help,

    This is the most common "fix" when devices are behaving strangely. It only takes a minute and there's no risk of lost data. This is the reason you'll see this fix being suggested so often.

    I had to do a hard re-set of my Centro to remove Versamail since the Palm OS can't recognize the GoDaddy cert on our server.  When I attempted to reload my bonus software, namely documents to go, the program said my serial number was not valid.  When I originally installed the software last December there was not a problem with the serial number being recognized.  I have tried every imaginable combination of "O" and "0" in the number and with all caps and no caps.  Nothing works. 
    Please help.

    Well, I do apologize for the inconvience. If it helps there are no "O's" in any Palm serial number. They would be zeros. You may need to talk to godaddy if it's still not recognizing your serial number correctly.

    sometimes the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    But as much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
    Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

  • Serial number is invalid Photoshop CS6

    My computer (PC) died, I had Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended. When I install on my new PC it says invalid key... I checked the number that is not the issue. I contacted support they told me I had a beta key... No idea what that means... I had the full version and never had any issues updating or asking me to activate ever.
    They told me to post in here, and that this is where I will get my issue fixed, seems strange they wouldn't help me, and that I would get a resolution here but I appreciate any information!!!

    Yes, it is a valid serial number, it's the one on my packaging. It was on my PC laptop no issues, the laptop died, I'm installing on a new one it says invalid key. I didn't get a change to unregister the other PC, maybe that is the issue, but adobe says that my key is a beta key and they won't help me, they say I have to buy full version, but I had full version. I feel ripped off, thanks again for all your help!

    Regardless of how this is happening--or why----it IS happening every time I try to run Adobe Photoshop elements 4.0. I purchased the program back in October, 2005 and have never been able to use it for more than a day or two. Without fail, I will open the program and get the message: Your Adobe Photoshop elements user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and MUST now exit. And, believe me, it EXITS immediately! In the past I have only been able to completely uninstall the program and then reinstall it---until the point where the program no longer appeared in the ADD/REMOVE programs of the control panel--although it was installed but not working. Apparently, registry cleaners can be the culprit, but I did a complete "CLEAN" install of Windows XP Professional/SP2 and started from scratch with ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER PROGRAMS INSTALLED EXCEPT ELEMENTS 4.0. The program worked for all of one day before I, again, got the error and could no longer use the program. Therefore, I can NOT blame registry cleaners alone. There is something inherent in Windows XP that causes this problem. Through this forum I was able to identify the exact registry key causing the problem:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{EBB7C1C1-D439-4D9B -9FDC-954C10F266B0}
    I was able to go to "regedit" (without the quotes) from the "run" menu and find this key (when the program was working). Highlight the key by clicking once on it and then go up to "file". Next, click "export" and save this key to notepad, Word or my documents---any place you know you can find it. I named it Adobe reg key.reg. The next time the program stops working, go to regedit---then to "file" and then "import". After clicking "import", find where you saved the key and click on it. This should import the key directly back into the registry where it belongs and the program should start working again. So far this has worked for me at least 5 times. There must be some fix for this-----from Adobe----soon. With this key exposed, what's to stop anyone from downloading the trial version, and then writing this key into the registry themselves. It's basically called a "crack" and could be used by anyone seeking to avoid paying for the program---SO----Adobe really needs to address this issue. I am totally against anyone stealing software in any way, shape or form, and I think this is what will happen unless Adobe gets a handle on this issue.

    Let me get this straight: Every time your PE4 stops working you have to do a registry edit to get it to work again? That's insane!!!
    I can sympathize with you, I've suddenly had similar problems with PE3 and have gotten little help from Adobe other than to be pointed to countless forum threads which do not answer the questions or solve the problem. Strangely it worked for several months before crashing and refusing to work again, not even able to re-install it.
    I was pointed to your thread because I was told it was probably my registry cleaner that caused my problem with PE3, obviously they didn'r really read your post.

  • Apple website doen't recognise the serial number on my iPod Nano

    Strange and frustrating!
    I have a 1st generation iPod Nano. I received an email from Apple about a replacement program for the iPod Nano. I have been trying to check my serial number on the apple website, but it is not being recognised.
    I took the product to the apple store in covent garden (london) where the CSR confirmed it looked right, and that if it wasn't being recognised I should email apple to get an answer. But I can't find an email address anywhere, all routes through the official support site seem to end in a dead end. I am bored looking!
    Any advice from the community? it feels like a simple request from the mighty technology company.....to be able to email someone a sensible question!

    The Apple Store you visited should have been abled to assist you with the replacement process as well.  Why not just bring it back and have them help you get the process started?

  • Upgrading to CS6 returns: "This serial number is not for a qualifying product"

    I have CS5 and have been using it for about 2 years. The Serial number for CS5 it is registered to my adobe id.
    So i decided to upgrade to CS6 today. I then registered that to my adobe id as well.
    When i open CS6 and enter my new serial number, it tells me:
    Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer
    Which is strange because CS5 is currently installed and running on this computer
    So it then prompts me to select a previous product that I own and enter the serial number for that. So I select CS5 and enter the serial number for my CS5 license.
    However, it then tells me: "This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another"
    But it doesn't tell may any further details. I.e. Why is it not valid?

    Brazzers234 is the serial number for CS5 also an upgrade?  The upgrade process is looking for a full version serial number.  You can determine what type of serial number is registered under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  For additional details please see Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
    If you have verified that the CS5 serial number is a full version serial number or your previous full version serial number is still not accepted then please contact our support team directly at Contact Customer Care to verify the validity of the previous version serial number.
