Strange size change when saving ai file as jpeg

Greetings all!
I have a quick question (I believe!). I have a couple of images that I am saving as jpeg files. So, I have noted that today only (it worked fine yesterday) when I go to save the file to web, the size of the image changes from 400 px high to 430 px high. I didn't select anything to make each file change like that. There is a white area at the top of the image (which isn't good 4 my image). When I reduce the size of the jpeg - it reduces the image (so the white area remains).
Does anyone have a suggestion? This has happened with more than one image.
Thanks 4 your help, Marty

If you have images to convert to jpg, use photoshop instead.
If the white are on top is 30 pixels, then you must have a stray point in your document or something that is not visible, but adds to the bounding box of your image. Do a Command Y in illustrator to see if something is there. Also if you are placing images into Illustrator, your original image may have a clipping path or something that is adding to your bounding box.

  • How to set jpeg resolution when saving pdf file as jpeg

    Hi
I am running a stand-alone version of Framemaket 10.I try to convert a documentation with a lot of screenshots in it. Regardless of the settings on the Reference pages of the first document of the book, Framemaker converts all graphic files to *.gif, and these are downsized so much that they become illegible. I would like to have them converted to JPG, with little resolution loss, so they are still readable.
I think Robohelp is too expensive…

  • Strange White Areas When Saving Photoshop File as a .pdf File ??? NEED HELP

Using Photoshop CS5 -- I saved a Photoshop file I created as a .pdf file but some of the areas on the .pdf file (specifically, sections of text) do not have any of the color/fill information, they are just white (blank areas).  I've seen this before when converting other Photoshop files and could not find a work around.  I tried saving with various compression levels (max, high, med) and it makes no difference.  I’m not a techie or graphic designer, just an average Jane, so I need information and advice that I can understand and apply.  See attached image.  Thanks!

That does sound a long way round.  The usual trick when layers don't do what you expect them to do, is to make a Copy Merged layer at the top of the stack.  Shift Alt Ctrl e (Shift Opt Cmd e).
I can see you have quite a few layers there, but you could problably track down the problem by Alt clicking each layer's Eye icon in turn to view them with everything else turned off.  When you find the culprit, Alt click it's Eye icon again to turn the other layers back on again.

  • When saving photoshop file in PDF, my document changes, how do I solve this?

    Hello everybody,
Im trying to save my CS6 files as PDF documents. When I save my files as PDF some texts or images disappear or deform.
Is there anything i'm doing wrong?
Is there a setting I need to change for saving my files so they don't change?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
Which operating system and version of photoshop cs6 are you using?
You can find out the exact photoshop cs6 version by going to Help>System Info from within photoshop and looking at the very first line that says Photoshop Version.

when saving a file in [.jpg] format, i am asked to choose a quality from 1 to 100. what changes in the file created based on the quality parameter chosen?. i would like to know what changes, so in the future i can set my camera to a setting that will give me the highest quality to begin with, allowing me to make crops and still preserve the quality.
    thank you

It's the level of compression. Lower number, more aggressive compression, more visual artifacts.
Aside from that you should never use jpeg as a working format. The compression is destructive and cumulative, and the file deteriorates every time you resave it.
Use TIFF or PSD, and if you need jpeg save out a copy as a single final step.

  • Image size change when save as jpeg

    Hi
I have recently encountered an issue when I save file as jpeg in CS6. I prepared my image for printing and my image is a bit smaller than the print size (20" x 40") so I created a new file (8 bit) with new exact print size. Then I placed my image into this newly created layer and adjust my image size to fit. After this, I flatterned the image and went to file>save as and picked JPG extension. Dialogue box appeared and I selected 10 for quality (scale 1-12) then I hit ok to save. After that I went to open the newly saved JPG file and check the file size and for somereasons, It has been halved to around 10"x20". However, pixle dimension of the image remained unchange because I have unticked resample option. Does anyone have any ideas of why this is the case as It's doing my head in.
    Thanks
    Dean

This has been discussed ad nauseam here.  Please do a forum search.  < sigh >
Bottom line:  If the pixel count remains the same, your image has not been "reduced or halved" at all.  Just change the ppi resolution accordingly without resampling.
Save for Web defaults to 72 ppi regardless of what you had specified earlier,´.

  • Image size changes after saving and then reopening

I'm using CS6. For example I change the image size to a 4X6 and then save it. Then when I open the file it will be 7.5X5. What's the fix? Thanks for your time.

I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a Windows 7 - 64 bit system. I'm using the Image Size dialog box and saving the file as a 4X6 at 300 dpi from a psd file to a jpeg file. When I open the file it is 5X7.5 inches at 240 dpi. I've been playing with it and have just figured out that when I save the file as a psd file it stays the size I've created and it changes when I save as a jpeg file. This is change is recent. It's worked properly in the past. Thanks for your help.

  • Image size changes when moving an image between Lightroom and CC.

Image size changes when moving an image between Lightroom and CC.
I opened a .dng image in LR and then opened it in the Develop module.  I clicked on Crop Overlay and then on the ‘As Shot’ drop down menu (the lock is closed) and cropped to 11 x 17 and clicked ‘Done’-.
I click Cntl-E and the image opens in CC.  There I click on Image > Image Size and the Image Size  is 13.288 inches by 20.533 inches.
Why does the image size change?
I believe there is a menu to control the size of the image and I've looked everywhere I can think of in LR and CC, I googled various descriptions and I checked two of Scott Kelby's books, but I just can't figure out how to keep the image a consistent size when moving between LR and CC.
    Help!...Please?

The penny will drop soon or maybe the cloud will lift.
In Lightroom all editing is undoable/nondestructive.
Hence a crop of 3x2 is not inches, centimetres, pixels or anything else. It is jst a ratio. When a file is exported, either to PS or disk, then the crop ratio has size determined in respect of pixels and inches or cms.
So my 6000x5000 pixel image I will crop to 3x2 that leaves (before exporting) a 6000x4000 file.
Now when exported it can be set to export at
100pixels per inch and will end up at 60x40" when printed.
200pixels per inch will end up at 30x20"
    300ppi will end at 20x13.3"
You will notice in the Crop Tool there are no size denominations such as inches or centimetres as an image file only has pixels and the determination of size is done through exporting or printing.
    Hope that helps somewhat..

  • When saving a file i don't see the progress

When saving Numbers files I use to see the progress of the save.  I no longer see its progress.  The files are being saved.  Any reason why this is happening??
    tj

I'm on OS X 10.7, your profile says you're on 10.6.8, so i can't duplicate what you are seeing. If I was to guess, I'd say it is related to changes made for Lion where versions are  periodically saved automatically in the background, where you wouldn't want a progress window always popping up. "Save" has become "Save a Version" and, though I hadn't noticed, probably also does not pop up a progress window..

  • Excel Hangs when saving a file

    Hi
When saving a file (CTRL+S) excel hangs, no error or anything.
This happens on Windows 8 PRO, on Win7 no problem at all.
Tried on EXCEL 2010 and EXCEL 2013 Customer Preview.
Checking the file after the app crash shows no file exists however 2 files exist instead:
    *.TMP file
    *.[NOTHING] file
The *.TMP is the new file i just saved, if I change it to *.XLSX it works fine, no curroption.
This was done saving on DESKTOP.
Since file was saved I assumed there is some kind of permission error so I changed the directory permission for "C:\Users\MYUSER\DESKTOP" to "EVERYONE".
With this setup excel saves without a problem....
I guess EXCEL tries to save under  a different user which has no permission but why no error?
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Check to see whether the user you logged on to the system has the permission to the file.
Also, check to see whether the following link is helpful:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271513
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313937
And, based on my research, hang when saving the file also maybe caused by a printer installation.

  • How automatically saving a copy when saving a file?

    Hi,
For my pictures (RAW and PSD) I use a separate external disk, our Timecapsule would be full in a year. My work flow in copying is normally no problem. But of course now my iMac drive is 'broken' I find a few PSD-files not be copied to the external drive. I wondered, is there a simple way to automatically save a copy when saving a file (and replace an earlier version of the copy)?
    Murk

Thanks. FWIW I'm very keen on improving tethering and lobbied Adobe endlessly until they added the overlay for shooting into layouts because it was a major reason why some of my clients were unable to switch to Lightroom from PhaseOne. But we have to be realistic and remember that tethering just isn't a key market for Adobe as it is for PhaseOne, so progress is painfully slow. For example, where is live view or setting exposure which are in PhaseOne? I'd be amazed if we get those features for a few versions, and that's why I point serious tethered shooters to other solutions. And realistically, assuming your understanding of the SDK is correct you shouldn't expect a change until the next full version of Lightroom.  Good if it happens, but I wouldn't bet on it.

  • Kate and kwrite (14.12) selecting encoding when saving a file.

How can someone select encoding when saving a file?
    Old save dialog:
    New save dialog:

    No, you can't.
It changes in what encoding a file is *shown*. It does not affect in what encoding a file is *saved*. I think it is a bug, or a forgotten feature. I've downgraded kate because of that(looks like only solution).
And there is the bug report I've reported about issue:

    Hi There,
The subject header just about says it all. This is the first action I took with MAX - it is a fresh install. The file I wanted to save was still written and the FP seems to be working ok. However, I need to know what happened.

    Hi,
I did a research on your error message and it seems this problem was introduced with MAX 4.6. This version switched to a new error reporting mechanism and reports even errors that are which are not critical to your task.
These errors typically show up as "unexpected" and if your error falls into this category have a look to this KB for further assistance.
If it doesn't fall into this category, your could try to go back to the MAX 4.5 or 4.4.. Of course you would need to reinstall some components and might not be able to use newer drivers at all.
    Let me know.
