Strange slow-motion typing slowdown

Hi folks, I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue I am having.
Every now and then randomly, and without any rhyme or reason in an application where I am typing in, it'll get slow for a second or two and the keystrokes appear in slow motion with a lag time slower than my typing and then return back to normal speed.. the beachball does not appear when that happens.
I have 4 GB of Ram. I can't remember if this happened or not with 10.5.1 or if it's a fault in the new firmware update for the keyboards.. so I though I'd send this out to see if anyone else has noticed this happening also.

Here's my workflow:
Export from FCP with your timeline with "current settings" and make either a self-contained movie or reference movie (your choice).
Then open the file in Quictime and chose export. Under your options category chose you preferred codec (such as Motion JPEG A) - set your frame size as NTSC 720x480 16:9 and commence downconversion. Your file should now be in SD format ready for mpeg2 encoding.
For what it's worth I think Compressor is a fairly easy way to go. Try exporting an HDV file out of FCP and then importing that into Compressor. Or just crack open Ouicktime Pro downconvert there and then use Compressor or DVDSP (which really is basically the same thing) to encode your m2v file.

  • Strange "strobe" effect when doing slow motion

    hi
after using fcp for a year now, i strangly encountered a problem in a video i need to deliver in 2 days.
whenever i did a 50% slow motion i get a strange "strobe" effect. when the frame is more or less static then you wont be able to see it but when the camera pans or the object in the frame moves it is very disturbing.
this is only noticable when viewed on a tv set, not on my display.
i thought it was in the encoding so i did the whole "export using QT" again, this time making sure its 2 pass VBR 6.8 to 8 mbps. still there.
i am working on a Pal system without a monitor so i burned the video onto a dvd using dvdsp (as usual) and then played it in a pal dvd player and tv but this strobe thing is still there.
b.t.w the interlace option on the "export using QT" was set as auto, the same as always.
i didnt do anything different this time but still i get that problem. what could it be ? all the settings in fcp settings are set to 100% quality and the video is fully rendered.
i appriciate your comments and help.
    thanx

hi jim and thanx for the quick reply...
i used to do my slo-mo in fcp without any problems till today.
b.t.w - im editing DV PAL.
i dont have motion so i'm stuck to fcp.

  • MacBook in slow motion...

Hi, my MacBook is acting funny. When typing the words appear to be in slow motion. They lag way behind. I have restarted it but it still seems very slow. When I am done typing a sentence its usually about 5-6 words behind with each letter slowing appearing. What can it be? Thanks

I had this same problem. I thought at first it was the wireless disconnecting and reconnectings. Now I have a MacBook Air with the ectronic drives and what I found it would create a swap file with a delay of 5 seconds. I would type and the sytem would just stop.
I went in the terminal and typed this command
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist
And its been fast from that point.

  • Why are the videos I take on my iPad mini playing back in slow motion?

I took a video of one of my tennis students on my iPad mini and when I went to view it, the video seemed like it was in slow motion or skipping frames. It definitely wasn't smooth and in normal time. The strange thing is that I shot the video again on my wife's iPad 2 and it did the same thing.

If you have a computer, you can import the photos to the computer and then delete them for the iPad. You don't even need iTunes to so this, because you aren't syncing, you are importing.

  • 720p 60 fps slow motion

I have a new helmet cam (Go Pro HD Hero). I have been playing around with the 5 formats for video. I did a 30 second shot with each of the 5 formats. FCP would not recognize 2 of the formats I tried to bring into Final Cut. The two formats are both of the 60 fps formats. Any thoughts? All captured as mp4.

Ok so the 60 fps formats (resolutions) are not recognized. This seems so strange because the other 3 resolutions shot by the camera import just fine. The 60 fps are not recognized:
    1080p = 1920x1080 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
    960p = 1280x960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
    *720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate*
    720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
    *WVGA = 848x480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate*
Note this is in the paperwork with the camera:
    Video Format: H.264 compression, saved as Windows- & Mac-compatible MPEG4 (.mp4) file
I am able to bring all 5 test resolution clips I made onto my desktop. They all play with Quicktime, MPEG streamclip.
    Here is the camera:
    http://www.goprocamera.com/index.php?area=2&productid=29
1- I am having a hard time believing that 2 of these are unreadable by final cut pro. Thoughts?
2- What format using Quicktime or MPEG streamclip do I export as?
3- Any simple tutorials on Cinama tools for slow motion? - I have not used.
This will be used on a vacation in a few days and the footage will be combined/edited with/in a movie with my standard 16x9 footage from my camcorder
    Thanks for the help.

  • 60fps Reverse Slow Motion Bug?

I have been playing with slow motion in iMovie using 60fps source footage (i.e. 60fps clips in a 30fps project).  It does a decent job but I have come across some strange behaviour when playing the slow motion clips in reverse.  It appears that iMovie losses it's nice smooth slow motion when the clip is played in reverse.  By this I mean that in reverse the nice smooth 60fps@50% clips look the same as 30fps@50% clips, they are choppy.
Take a look a this clip for an example: http://vimeo.com/27162470  (just uploaded and currently being processed by Vimeo, may or may not be ready for viewing yet)
I cannot figure out why.  Wonder if this is a bug/limitation in iMovie or if I'm missing a setting somewhere.  I suspect the former.
    Message was edited by: DigitalOxygen.ca

One possible workaround is to reverse the clip before importing into iMovie but I have yet to find a tool other than iMovie that will let me do that easily.  Some quick investigation into MPEG Streamclip, Handbrake, and ffmpeg didn't turn up much.
Anyone know of a tool that will allow me to reverse the clip before importing into iMovie?

Hello. My iphone 4, iOS 6.1.3 gone wild....everything is going in slow motion, every app i open is running in frames...i tried reseting the handset, with back-up, without backup(as a new iPhone) and the result is the same. My battery percentage is going down down down only by looking at my phone, imess is making me crazy, after i write the name for the recipient the keyboard appears after 2 min...and the list is looooong...everything is gone wild ! Why? What can i do ?

I'm having similar issues just lately. The phone itself is very slow to respond to the touch, just scrolling between home screens is a chore at times. There have been about 2 incidents of random vibration from it. Closing home screen folders takes a couple of attempts. I find that I'm also having delayed keyboard responses when typing messages to my contacts.
Also, sometimes when I press the sleep/wake button it takes about 30 seconds to register it and actually lock or wake up.
Have you experienced the backlight failing to light up? Like if I get a message it flashes up then goes black straight after and when you press the sleep/wake or home button it lights up again but very very dimly and you have to press the sleep/wake button as if locking it and then press it again to bring the screen up properly?
Mine is also on 6.1.3(10B329), model MD245B/A, obviously not Jailbroken, carrier unlocked from Vodafone (but that was months and months ago). Roughly 17gb of storage space left.
This has only started happening in the last 2 weeks. Haven't tried the reset or anything yet though.

  • Long page edits are in slow motion

I am creating a long page with text and imbedded pictures. All my edits, placement of pictures, typing in general are in slow motion like the page is getting too large. I have 9 pictures and 3 short videos inserted and lots of text. Any idea why everything is so sluggish?

Too much stuff on the page. Nobody likes scrolling down long pages and 9 images and 3 videos is way too much.
If its sluggish in iWeb, how long will it take to download in the browser? One video with a good text description is enough per page.

  • Weird Slow motion effect with Motion4 and FCP7.

    Hi everyone,
I was testing a simple slow motion clip when I encountered a weird issue with it.
Basically the clip of a person running in a room where there is a bookshelf and the weird effect is that it looks like there is an "halo" around the person and within such "overlap" everything on that path looks "melted/vibrant" distorted.
To better clarify the issue I uploaded a sample clip here:
    http://www.vimeo.com/5891093
After doing some tests I've found a workaround to this. So the sample clip shows the problem and the portion without any problem.
The clip was shot in XDCAM EX 720p 25fps.
After ingesting and importing the MOV file into Motion I had exported the slowed clip out of Motion using the same codec XDCAM EX 720p VBR.
When I imported that MOV into FCP I got that weird effect on both canvas and final export to H.264.
As second test, instead of using the export from Motion, I decided to use the Motion project in the FCP timeline. Once rendered (as the motn clip was in the Motion Codec Decompression) as XDCAM the same issue appeared on both the canvas and final export to H.264.
At this point the strange thing was that if I opened the Motion project in the viewer it was working perfectly fine.
I then decided to export within FCP the Motion project to XDCAM 720p before instantiating it in the timeline.
So did that and I got a 720p clip that I imported in the timeline without any rendering needs.
With that clip the canvas was playing ok and so was the final export to H.264.
As the initial work in Motion 4 was ok and I didn't see any issue, I thought this might be some sort of FCP 7 issue (or some bad settings that I have on my system).
Anyway I've found my work around and just decided to share here just in case someone else could understand the behind the scene of this.
During these tests I have tried to place the Motion project on different timelines (in ProRes 422, ProRes 444) just to see whether the issue was due to a combination of factors including the XDCAM codec, but didn't fix the problem.
    Cheers,
    Armando.

Just for the record, I made another test with a different material and now I start thinking it could be a Motion4 weird behavior than an FCP7 issue.
I have shot another clip this time with an in camera slow motion (shot @60fps in XDCAM EX 720p 25pfs format), then applied to Motion4 for another 50% optical flow time remapping.
This time after checking well at Motion results, I can see the issue in the bookshelf area with vibrant/melting spots.
After importing the Motion project into FCP and then exported as self contained MOV in XDCAM EX 720p, the issue is gone as in the other tests.
I went back to the previous tests I made and checked better in Motion; the problem was slightly noticeable even there in one test.
So I guess it is Motion producing that weird output and not FCP, which seems btw fixing the issue.
    Regards,
    Armando.

  • Slow motion lost after sync from mac to iphone

    Hi,
I can capture videos in slow motion but those videos play at normal speed once Sync them via iTunes.
    1. Capture videos in slow motion.
    2. The videos first play in slow motion in the iPhone. There is a time line slider to move the slo-mo effect back and forth.
    3. I do a back-up via iTunes including videos.
    4. After syncing, the videos in the iPhone appear in one album called "Slo-Mo".
    5. In the thumbnail of the video clip I can see the small dial icon that all other slow motion videos have.
    6. Playing the video shows a normal speed clip without the timeline slider under the video frames view.
The videos DO retain the slo-mo "effect" in Aperture and iPhoto also. Not in the iPhone after syncing.
Any hints to solve this?  thanks
    jp
    iPhone 6 iOS8

    Hi,
iOS 8.1 didn't fix the issue so here is my workaround to " show-off " my slow motion clips:
I have tried to open the clips with iMovie in the iPhone.  ( I guess not everyone has iMovie installed...?)
So, you can create a new project in iOS iMovie and import the clip you want. Slow motion clips preserve the little dial icon so you can see which ones have the slo-mo effect. It will preserve the slow-motion sections of the original clip and will play "slow".
If for some magical reason your clip doesn't play "slow" in iOS iMovie click on the small "tachometer" icon and select the desired speed.
So. iMovie does know the clip has enough frames to play in slow motion... why the camera app doesn't ?
    good luck,
    jp

  • IPhone 6 Plus IOS v8.1 Slow Motion BROKEN

Film in either of the two slow motion speeds and plays back ok on phone.  I put the files in the computer (grab the raw file via explorer), on Win 7 Professional, and played with both windows media player AND Quicktime player (up to date players) and the videos play either no slow motion, plays alternating between fast and slow, one time it played slow but had normal voice pitch, other times played slow with low voice pitch.  On youtube, they don't play in slow motion.  One I shot vertically (which I did just as a test) and it was sideways in the computer, however, youtube rotated it so it's vertical but it is not in HD and it does not play back in slow motion.  This same file that was sideways in my computer stopped playing after about 2 seconds in the computer, but played through ok in the phone.  I noticed that as the video plays in the phone, there are blue vertical lines below the left/right scrub/scroll bar for the video.  This can be set to play only a portion in slow motion.  But WHY does it start each video with the ends nudged in so the first 3 sec is regular speed and the last 2 are also reg speed also w/the slo-mo in between?  It defaults to this each time an you have to spread it out to get all slow motion..
In Win XP, some of the video files don't show up.  It shows .aae files with corresponding numbers to the videos, but most of the videos are not there.
I think this is a huge software bug that needs to be tested.  I updated the os on my new phone before I put anything into my phone.  Everything else has been perfect till this.  HELP!

You said, "...plays back ok on phone."  That's where Apple's software stops.  Your problems with Win 7, Win XP, Quicktime, and YouTube need to be addressed on forums for those programs and/or sites.  Presumably the issue has already been resolved by users on those sites, with different solutions for each.

  • Slow motion / fast motion in Premiere Elements 13

I read that in Premiere Elements 13 fast motion (and I think also slow motion) ist removed. Is that correct. And if yes: Is there any workaround available?

    rr
    Thanks for the reply.
Great information. If you have been using Ctrl+R, that is the keyboard shortcut that brings up the Time Stretch dialog.
Time Stretch (use of the Ctrl+R) has not been removed from Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace.
Like Premiere Elements 11, Time Stretch is found in the Expert workspace and not in the Quick workspace.
When you use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+R, I get Time Stretch dialog from where I can create the slow or fast motion effect in the selected clip.
The following relates to Premiere Elements Timelapse Capture (Stop Motion) which has been removed from
Premiere Elements 13 as a specific feature that you see in Premiere Elements 11 and 12.
Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Capture stop-motion and time-lapse video
Please let me know if you are OK with the above information.
    Thank you.

  • SAP B1 Patch 42 GUI, Vista SLOW MOTION

    Hi,
I just don't know if I'm alone with this.
I didn't find any thread about it.
I've successfuly installed SAP B1 2005A SP001, Patch 42 on Windows Vista Home Premium.  Everything works find
    Except
When windows pop, its slow like hell.  You know this animation when you open let say Sales Invoice window.
Well in Vista, it takes at least 10 seconds like if everything was in slow motion.  But when the window is there, everything still works as normal !
Any idea ? Any patch ? Anything ?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Nice link but I'm not on version 10 but 42 and there's no error and no problem.  Just the GUI is slow.
I don't think Vista is to blame but rather the poor SAP GUI which really need a fix since a LONG LONG time
that would also probably fix the problem of .NET WinForms not sitting on top when called from SAP
I'm more looking if someone knows something about it, a patch for the GUI or even a registry key that would disable the SAP window animation.

My videos from my iphone are horrible when I transfer them to my PC. How can I improve the video on my PC? Can I just convert the files to WMV? When the video plays the speed is off, it's half slow-motion and staggers into normal play. The clips are slightly cut as well, the clips do not roll continuously.  I'm taling about videos that are no more than 2 minutes long.  I'm frustrated and I could really use some advice-my kids basketball games is what I'm recording and I'm trying to send them to my family (they are not very tech savvy). Thanks

Not it's only function but one for which it was most admirably suited, which is why I really hope someone can find a work around. I am hoping my post to the Apple feedback may prompt a useful response from Apple and I live in hope that my post here will elicit a useful response from another user. I did not miss the the text at the top of the feedback form but you presumably missed my initial text, 'someone here can explain' or my subsequent 'work around from another user'

If you are considering purchasing the iPad as a useful mobile device to experience these media organised in your iTunes please don't as you will be wasting your money. Yes I know it does other things but the purpose I bought it for doesn't work anymore
