Strange software indeed?

Well, I've been running my My Cloud now for a week or so, and I'm pretty satisfied with it insofar. What I don't like and/or comes to grip with is HOW to download music/photos/video FROM my unit. I know I can stream the content and upload the same...
I have tried to use the little submenu under each object in the My Cloud-app; the one with copy, cut, rename and download(!) buttons. When clicking the download button I get a tiny blue arrow (pointing downwards) by the files name. Then: nothing! Think I read that My Cloud only allows photos to be downloaded, but the same happens when I try download a photo... Okay, you can e-mail yourself and open the file in some other apps, but I want it downloaded onto my unit i.e. iPad or iPhone.
So WHY on Gods green are we given the possibility to chose download if it does nothing? Why even have that button? OR: if it is possible to download, WHERE does the files end up on my unit?
Or have I missed something? Some setting?
//Stefan

Good information, indeed!
Unfortunately I use iOS-units... And, equally unfortunately, absolutely nothing happens when you click the download button beneath the filenamne (it will show if you swipe left on the filename). I'd happily tell the software where to store the file... Furthermore, and again unfortunately, iPhones and iPads don't allow SD-cards...

  • Strange software issue....

So, ive only had my 1st gen touch for about 2 months. Recently I noticed it behaving strangely when listening to music on occasion. Sometimes, if I wake the touch from the screen being off using the slider...it briefly shows the track im playing, then immediately reverts to the home screen. I have to touch the music icon to get back to the playing screen. I am not pushing the home button when this happens mind you. I push the home button to bring up the unlock screen, slide my finger across, and it goes back to the home screen. It doesnt do this everytime, only ocassionally, but it is quite irritating because sometimes it does this several times in a row. I suspected there was something wrong with my touch, but when I was at the Apple store yesterday, I got an iPhone 3G to do the same thing several times, and even showed it to one of the employees. He had never seen it before and thought it might be a software glitch. I have the updated 2.1 software running currently. I immediately updated my touch to 2.0 when I bought it, so I am not sure if it would have done this before the software update. Is anyone else having this problem? And does anyone know a fix?

I'm having somewhat of a similar problem... When i've woken my ipod the past few days, it goes to the song that I left off on, but when I press play it locks back up. When I unlock it again, it goes to the apple logo screen... and stays there for a while before rebooting.
Very frustrating when I have a good shuffle going.

  • Strange Software Glitch With Bluetooth

Okay, this is hardly a big deal but thought someone at apple would want to know... if I am in my car and I go to email search and begin typing in the search box, the car's bluetooth activates and thinks I am having a phone conversation. When I click out of the search box the call "hangs up." I do not use a bluetooth headset so I do not know if it has a similar effect there.
PS Apologies if someone has already posted on this subject. I did not find it when I did a search.
PPS No, I do not email when I am driving but noticed it when I was in the parking lot waiting for someone.

Got it now. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Sorry to be so dense.
Now, I do some DivX compression and most Projects are over that Duration. To date, I've never seen a problem with them, nor have I heard of any client having this issue. Though I might have missed it, especially if my Sequence looked good in PrPro and then my DVD looked good. I might have shipped the DivX with similar glitches, but would think that one client would have yelled at me, if I had the same thing. Have not done any H.264 compression yet, but will now keep an eye out.
I am assuming that you're using the DivX Corp's Pro encoder to do the compression to that CODEC. I do know that they have a couple of newer versions, than what I've got. You might want to check your version numbers against what is being offered on their site. If you're using some other program to do the compression, you might want to try the DivX Corp's encoder. That would still not explain why/how you get this in both encoding schemes though. Just thinking aloud.
Good luck, and if I run across similar, especially if there is a fix, or a workaround, I'll post to this thread.

did you use a sudo in front of the yaourt command or maybe use the root account to install it? That could explain why it was owned by root.

  • All Apple software is responding strangely - how do I fix this?

All apple software on my macbook has started to respond strangely. Logic Pro, Finder, Photobooth, Safari etc. They all keep freezing, or they stop responding, or they open but don't work properly. For example, safari keeps going blank (i.e. the search bars go blank, all bookmarks disappear). Photobooth just straight up didn't appear on screen until about the 5th relaunch. Logic keeps making everything go blank too, and garageband won't even open. How do I fix this problem?
Is it a virus, or do I have some kind of strange software issue?
I have software updated, and tried rebooting but still the problem persists.

  • Activation of all my Adobe software doesn't work anymore also Adobe Captivate

    Hello,
I'm a teacher at the Hague University in the Netherlands and I also bought the Adobe CS6 Master Collection, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Captivate 6 and it worked nice when I installed it in December 2012. But this morning all my Adobe software doesn't function anymore, I get the message that it is a trial version and it will only work for 30 days. This whole morning I am busy to get the software back to work, but also when I reinstall it and type the proper activation keys which also can be found in my Adobe-account, it says that the serials are invalid. Could I please get some support to solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance,
    B. Kranenburg

    Dear Mr. Kranenburg,
As a teacher at a high school I experience the same problem. The problem is caused by a new licencing policy Adobe forced into place with CS6 products. The licenses you have are only valid for one year. Moreover they are actually valid for less than one year, since projects in Captivate created in the trial version mode you describe will have an expiration date. This will, in the very near future, result in non functioning projects/packages. The only way to overcome this problem is to renew your license, and republish the projects in the newly licensed product.
I can understand that Adobe wants to get more revenue out of their products. I however do not understand that a license, said to be valid for one year, will not provide a workable solution throughout this full year. A very strange policy indeed!

  • Trouble transferring some songs. "Software is Too Old"...

    Error Message:
"Some of the songs in your music library were not copied to your iPod because your iPod software is too old."
This is a brand new 5G 30 gig. Downloaded latest updater from apple.com, ran it, but it says that there is "nothing to install".
What could the problem be? At least one of the tracks that won't transfer was purchased from iTunes....today.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick response tabz. Went through and played the first couple seconds of each track that won't copy over. Still nothing...
The issue only appears with tracks purchased from iTunes....tonight. Went back and bought another cd thinking maybe the first track was corrupt, but no, the new cd won't transfer either. Imported my own cd and that transfered fine. All prior iTunes purchases have transferred fine.
A whole 'nother problem about restoring: I had that thought and attempted to restore, but the updater doesn't recognize the iPod. I plug it in and it still says "Connect an iPod to update..."
Did some other poking around on the iPod, and noticed that in Settings > About, it claims the iPod is formatted for Windows. But I'm on a iMac G5 running 10.4.3. This iPod has never even been near a pc let alone formatted for one. Strange? Indeed.
Any thoughts? This is my fiancee's 3rd iPod and this is getting absolutely unbearable....these things cost too much to have such issues.

  • Problem Mounting CD's + Software Update

The hard drive on my girlfriend's PowerBook recently died and needed to be replaced. Now, her computer won't mount CD's. It just spits them back out.
Also, strangely, Software Update will not open when you select it from the Apple menu (although it does work from within System Preferences).
In addition, when you select "About this Mac" from the Apple menu, the options "More Info" and "Software Update" are disabled.
Any ideas why these things are happening and how we can fix it?
    Thanks.

Removing strange software can be a task.  The following outlines various ways of uninstalling software:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a Startup item or a Log In item.  Startup items are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the Delete [-] button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Note that you must have this software installed before you install software you may need to uninstall.  Uninstallers won't work if you install them after the fact.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them and others at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on removing software and dealing with spyware and malware.
After removing all the components of the software you may have to restart the computer to fully disable the software.  This will be the case when removing software that has installed a daemon.  After the daemon has been removed you need to restart the computer to stop the daemon.  Alternatively, you can kill the daemon process using the Terminal application or Activity Monitor.

  • Unwanted software with new Flash 11 install - Underhanded

I am sorry of the tone of this discussion. I installed Flash Player 11 last night. The screen pops up and some strange software description shows up with either a dismiss or next button at the bottom. I look at the main window and for sure it says Adobe. I click dismiss only to find out that I have to dismiss 4 more software packages BEFORE I get to the flash install button. I thought you guys were above this cheap, blatant, stupid approach to providing user value. My whole impression of your company changed instantly. Because of this, every adobe software package i have, I have shutoff all updates so I can manually see what junk may be coming from you into my computer. Once flash was installed, I went back to my control panel/programs, and guess what, there were 3 junk programs you installed without my permission.
This is so sad. Since the computer I had this issue with only has three software packages on it besides yours, and they have not been updated, I know this sneaky, underhanded method of giving away FREE software is your new norm.
I think social media is my next move to vent my disappointment with your company.

I am very curious from where you downloaded that installer.
There are bundled software offers on the official Flash Player download page, but they can easily be unchecked:
There is no bundled software if you use the offline installers:
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
    Flash Player for Mac OS

  • Bluethoot error: strange call to 498945227788

    Hi all,
this is a very strange software error and I don't know why Blackberry won't to fix it.
When I connect my BB tourch 9800 to my BMW X6 with Bluethoot after 10 minutes the BB disconnect from the car and start to call this number: 498945227788.
I have found some german topics about it since 2007 and the problem still exist expecially with BMW cars.
I have paied too much for my BB and I would like to get a solution.
    Thanks to everybody

I to had this when took delivery of my new BMW. Connected phone by blue tooth. All worked fine. I then was messing about with the console on my BMW looking at all the features it had, one of them was to update with BMW re settings in my car. The car then used my phone without me knowing to update their records in Germany. Only found out when got the bill. I shall be very careful in future or switch my blue tooth off.

  • Discussion: Assigning a software to Blue ThinkVantage Button on Win8

After upgrading to Windows 8, I couldn't get ThinkVantage button to work.
    This is my experience:
I found the 8001 registry entry workaround and tried it: didn't work.
But I found that installing Simpletap links the button to the software, and I did find that the software indeed adds 8001 registry key entry. Uninstalling the software and manually adding the key again didn't seem to work.
There must be some kind of background service or an additional registry key that's responsible to it. Just can't figure out what it is...
If anyone in this forum know something about this issue, I'd like to ask you to share your knowledge Thanks.
To Lenovo: Leaving a button without any function looks VERY, VERY irresponsible to me, especially since you are officially promoting Windows 8 on your website. I strongly recommend you to release a Programming tool or at least disclose some information about programming the button.

I think you need the Hotkey driver.  I use the Win7 one on Win8, as I have the Win7 ThinkVantage Power Manager, Access Connections and Communications Utility installed.
All seem to work fine, apart from Access Connections, which loses my wifi connection every half hour or so.
The Win8 Hotkey driver that's linked to here is rubbish, as it doesn't work with the Win7 tools and it even complains about Lenovo Settings not being installed, which is some mysterious Mtero app that is unavailable to pre-'30 generation ThinkPads in the Windows 8 App Store
I really hope that Lenovo releases Win8 versions of Power Options, Access Connections and Communications Utility, as upgrading to Windows 8 (as advertised on Lenovo's own site) leaves you with a crippled ThinkPad!

  • Zen Micro Software Upgrade Confl

I posted in another thread, but thought this board supported BBCode, so my other post is rather jumbled.
I received my Zen Micro earlier this week, played with it a bit, and decided I would like to continue using it without MTP. But I would like the latest firmware.
My current firmware is .02.05, and I am using Zen Media Explorer 4.00.22 - these came on the CD with my Micro.
On the Creative support page, I selected the "Step by Step" Micro Firmware Upgrade Instructions, and continued answering "NO" to "Would you like to Use Online Subscription Services". The firmware version I want is clear enough: ..0. But the software is not clear at all. First I am taken to a page which says I need the following:
    Zen Micro Media Explorer 4.00.8
    Sync Manager 4.00.5
    Jukebox Type Plugin 2.00.07
When I click on the download link for the above, I am taken to a download page for ZENM_PCAPP_LB_MTP_PDE.exe. This contains different versions than the previous page said that it would:
    Zen Micro Media Explorer 4.00.27
    Sync Manager 4.60.0
    Import Wizard .60.2
    CD Ripping Wizard .60.09
So which is correct? With all the firmware upgrade problems I see, I sure want to make sure ahead of time that I am downloading and installing the correct files.
A call yesterday to Creative got me less help than my 2 year old could provide!
    Thanks.Message Edited by J-Mac on 0-09-2005 :39 PM

Choose Support > Downloads from your local Creative site's main menu, then follow the instructions. Or you can use the international site, http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers/ . You're looking for the ..0 firmware download--not ZMME, MediaSource, or anything else.
What you were directed to is indeed the newest versions--but of Creative software, not the firmware itself. The tutorial you went through is more aimed at those upgrading to 2.x (MTP/Janus) firmware; they have to replace their ZMME, install a new MediaSource plug-in, and make other changes to their Creative software when upgrading.
Changing firmware from .02.05 to ..0 should not require new Creative software; indeed, it's one of the easiest firmware upgrades possible for the Micro. Most Micro upgrade issues you see here involve those who switch to 2.x firmware, but fail to download the required Creative software upgrades. You probably won't even lose your music files (which would happen if you chose 2.x firmware).

  • Wireless issue on Lenovo B570e2 with Atheros AR9285

    Hello,
I have just bought a Lenovo B570e2 with an Atheros AR9285 wireless card and have from now lost two days trying to make it work. Since it works perfectly with Windows 7, it doesn't seem to be an hardware issue. The card is recognized and the ath9k module is loaded, but I cannot see any wireless network, whilst Windows 7 detects more than 10 at the same location.

meop wrote:Have you tried with other tools? Networkmanager, Wicd? Are all the access points around you wireless N, or are some G? Sometimes Atheros chips have trouble communicating with other wireless N chips. I have experienced this on my router.
As far as iwlist doesn't detect any network, wpa_supplicant can't go further, and NM and Wicd are just wrapper tools for wpa_supplicant Wireless networks around are mixed b/g, no n capables.
I have also tried to connect to my network by using sscan_ssid=0, so that wpa_supplicant would try to connect to it but it didn't work.
meop wrote:This user posted a different issue recently, but at least he got the card working on Arch with Linux 3.6.2.. maybe you could message him?
Wow, quite strange, we indeed seem to have the same hardware and the same environnement, but not the same result, thanks for the tip!
meop wrote:The two solutions you tried were for a Ubuntu issue and a disconnect issue respectively, right? You could try loading a Live image of Ubuntu on your machine just to see if the card works on it, and then compare to Arch to see what settings or loaded module versions are different.
I forgot to add it to the "what I've tried" list, sorry. I have already tried to boot with a Live Cd of Ubuntu 12.10, 12.04 and even 9.10 (kernel 2.6.32)
Triby wrote:You have to put the interface up.  You have not described what steps you have taken to try to actually connect ... in fact it's not clear that u have taken any.  See the wireless wiki page and follow the manual connection steps.  Post the results/output of any failed step here.
EDIT: the interface "link" is up : <NO-CARRER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT qlen 1000, only protocol is DOWN
I don't usually use front end like NM or Wicd, here's what I've done :
    ip link set wlan0 up
    wpa_passphrase <my ssid> <my password> > /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
Then no result. As I wrote earlier, I've also added "sscan_ssid=0".
The problem is that "iwlist scan" does'nt get any result, meaning that my network card can't see wireless network around...
    Thanks for your responses.
    EDIT:
I may have found something interesting, while I try to play with iwconfig and iwlist, something happens frequently in my dmesg :

I don't know why but this seems to be related... I'm googling that for now...
