Strange Stats

Hi,
Anyone care to comment in regards to these stats. Very high d/s CRC errors and NO d/s FEC errors even though I'm apparently interleaved. ( I would usually have relatively high FEC and low CRC d/s errors) Incidentally, I have noticed that my ping has halved on Speedtest.net. Which to my uneducated thinking, would seem to indicate that I'm on fast path.
I know the high u/s figures for CRC and FEC are a known router bug btw.
TIA
Regards
Alan.

  • MaxDB in strange state after power supply blackout

    Hello DB specialists,
I'd like to ask if anyone has faced similar problem as we do. We had a power supply blackout in the server room and one of our UPS didn't survive. Two servers went down immediatelly - lusckly both ofthem for training purposes. When we restarted them and started all SAP systems everythink seemd ok. But after couple of days we realized, that SolMan system contained old license, which was renewed nearly a year ago. When we logged to the system, we realized that the DB is in state of more than year ago. It appears like after the DB restore.
We localized some strange files in /sapdb/data/wrk/<SID>/DIAGHISTORY from the time of restart after the power crash.
My question is - might it be, that the DB rebuilt itself to some previouse state after the system crush ? And if so - is there any way to restore the last state ?
Thank you for your comments in advance.
    Best regards
    Tomas

    No, it won't.
The key point here is, that log mode OVERWRITE still lets the logwriter do its job and with that the automatic savepoints do occur.
It's just that the written log data is not kept from beeing overwritten without having a backup for it.
When you crash such an instance it will startup from the last written savepoint which is likely <=10 minutes away. And depending on your log data state, all other changes made after this are still in the log volume.
So it's quite a good choice for situations where you don't really need everything to be recoverable up to the latest minute. For example demo systems or training systems could be a use case.
LOGWRITER OFF on the other hand completely disables the log writing and by that also the automatic savepoints.
    regards,
    Lars

  • Strange Stats for Week of 3/4?

I just got my iTunes U traffic report for the week of 3/4. According to the report, our site generated no traffic last week, which is odd given that we've seen at lease very low levels of traffic every other week. It's reporting "0" for every user action.
iTunes U is up and functioning here; I just double checked it by logging in via a student test account.
Anyone else see this in their report?

We have now re-processed our weekly report, and you should be receiving it in your mailbox shortly. Please let me know if you see further issues on the report. - Thanks.

  • App goes in to strange state after about 10 mins of being idle [HELP]

I've had this issue for months.. and I do have a "hack" fix.
When my app is left idle for about 10 minutes and then you try to interact with it..  it is slow on the response to touch for the first couple touches. It's kind of groggy..   Then it wakes up and performs great again.
My hacked fix is to run a constant profiler at a depth behind everything else on the stage.  This keeps everything fast all the time.. only issue is that when monitoring the CPU usage via XCode's Instrument tools .. I'm eating up a significant size of CPU usage that I would rather have available to my app.
Does anyone know why the app goes to sleep like this when left idle ?

  • Strange double buffering bug

    Hi all,
I have stumbled on strange swing behavior on Windows, most probably connected to double buffering introduced in java 6.
Once in a while Windows stops redrawing my JFrame. From the java side everything seems ok - all the components are painted (that is, all native methods called), EventQueue normally processed by EDT, but repainted GUI is not shown on the screen. Note that OS has the repainted info - if I cover part of the application window with another window (e.g. explorer), and hid it back, the part that was covered is repainted. This happens even if I have java app halted on debug, so no other java actions can cause this repaint - OS has to have this image, it just does not put it on the screen. When I minimize/maximize the app, everything goes back to normal.
Note that I can normally operate the app "as if" it was painted - I can change tabs, click buttons (even though I can't see them), and results of these actions are painted by java to some offscreen buffer, but are only shown when I cover/uncover my app with another window, or min/max it. Min/Maxing ends this strange state and further repaints are shown normally.
Did any of you have this kind of problem? Any idea how to approach/resolve it or what can be the cause?
Java is 1.6.20, I have seen the behavior on Windows XP, Vista and 2008. It is not reproducible, it just happens sometimes. I haven't seen that on Java 5. Turning off double buffering resolves that, but is not feasible due to degraded user experience.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Jakub

Thanks for your help so far, perhabs this is something with the driver, but I use fairly generic windows distribution.
EDT is not hosed, it is processing events normally (I checked that on debug step-by-step). We do not override any paint methods, and this is rather something on different level - it is not "a component not being repainted" it is "everything is repainted, but not shown on screen". Including tabbedPane's tab changes, menu display, etc. I can even see cursor changing into carret when I hover over "not shown" textfield.
Displaying and then disposing of modal dialog also fixes the state, as do resizing of the JFrame.

  • Buttons in object states

I am having some problems creating buttons in object states...I have a colored rectangle and a text box in each object state...I have selected the rectangle as the button to show the next state (there are only 2 states) and the second state leads back to the first one...
but in some of the object states the text box does not appear?  if i don't have the second state as a button then it appears ok (but I can't return to the first state)
any ideas? do i need to group each text and rectangle before placing it into the object state and subsequently making it a button?

@Bob – it seems it is the only way to get something like a button control from one MSO to another.
I stumbled over this just today so I had no time for testing.
So duplicating an MSO seems to be an option…
The example you see in the movie is a folio with PNG output saved as v20. Version 24 in this configuration is also doing fine.
I think we have to explore the new possibilities this will give us.
Though, I'm a little uneasy, because we leave the targets of the buttons inside the duplicated MSO in a very strange state:

  • AFP authentication a bit too forgiving?

Having been reasonably satisfied with the performance of Leopard on my 24" iMac, I decided it was finally time to upgrade the rest of our office machines as well. It was only after I bought a recent Mini that I realized file sharing in Leopard features a new behavior that I find less than acceptable.
This is the problem I discovered: when I use AFP on one Leopard machine to access a shared folder on a remote Leopard machine, the login information persists even after I unmount the shared folder. Using the same local machine I can connect to the remote machine again and again without ever having to re-enter a password. This came as a bit of a surprise, since I was used to the Tiger way of doing things.
    http://www.radiotope.com/content/more-about-os-x-105-leopard-kerberos
After a modicum of googling I came across the above blog entry, which explained this behavior to me. It appears that I've been kerberized, and this persistence of login information is in fact intended as a convenience. And there I was, thinking it was a *big ol' security hole*. Silly me!
I don't think I can be blamed for my misapprehension. I can think of a number of ways this setup can be exploited for all sorts of nastiness. Let's take the first one that comes to mind:
I admin several Macs for our small business, and I'd rather not clog our struggling DSL line by using Software Update to download updates individually for each machine. So I log into the admin account on my iMac, manually download all the updates we need, and file them in an appropriate folder. Then I walk over to my wife's Mini (assuming I can find a few minutes when she's not using it), log into my admin account on that machine, use AFP to connect to the admin account on my iMac, copy over the download files, and unmount the folder. So far so good; were this Tiger, it would be the end of the story.
But in Leopard, we're just getting started.
As I've already explained, if I try to connect to the iMac again, I'm allowed to do so without typing in a password. This is a bit surprising, but I can see where some might find it convenient.
I find I can also log out of the admin account on the Mini, log back in, and still connect to the iMac without typing in a password. Okay, we've gone from "surprising" to "unsettling."
But that's nothing. I can also log out of the admin account on the Mini, log into my wife's normal user account, and still connect to the iMac without typing a password! ... Which means that if I log out of the admin account and walk away from the Mini, my wife will be able to log into her account +and gain instant, unrestricted access to any file in the admin account on my iMac.+
Hmmm, I've just gone all the way from "unsettling" to "major heebie-jeebies."
This probably isn't much of a problem in a small family business like ours. My wife knows there are good reasons why I don't want her messing around with the admin accounts on our computers (not least of which is the danger of extended computer downtime), and I trust her to keep her mitts off them. But I still keep the admin account passwords to myself because I don't want her accidentally screwing something up. Leopard has given her a way around this failsafe: it's made it possible for her to unintentionally mess up the admin account on my computer!
In a large company, it could be a much bigger problem, made all the worse because the user gets no warning that the login info will persist after he logs out. Rewrite the above scenario, but replace me with a harried system admin who's new to Leopard and isn't aware of this "convenience," and in my wife's place imagine an unscrupulous employee who suddenly finds he has access to all the files in the admin's computer. What fun he (or she) could have!
This has gotten quite lengthy, but I don't think it makes sense to be word-stingy when a big stinkin' security hole is apparently being passed off as a convenience. I hope I've managed to get my point across.
That being said, I'd like to ask a question:
Is there some way to turn this functionality off so that users will be required to log in every time they try to access files via AFP? I'd rather do things the old way, if possible. (I know it's possible to use the Kerberos app to burn the ticket, as the blog author suggested. But there's always the chance that I'll forget; and even if I don't, it's a pain in the posterior.)
    Also, a suggestion:
Wouldn't it be a good idea to rethink this functionality? It seems to me that at the very least, Leopard should display a warning anytime someone tries to connect to a remote machine via AFP:
*+Warning! For the next ten hours, anyone who uses this machine will have unrestricted access to the account you're about to log into. Are you sure you really want to go through with this?+*
But such a warning would beg the question: Why does this function even exist? Perhaps it would be better if the functionality were turned OFF by default...

    Thanks for responding, Scott.
Yes, what you describe is exactly what happened. I wouldn't have written what I did without trying it first.
That said, I tried it again after reading your post, and it isn't happening now. In the meantime I've rebooted both of the computers in question and tinkered with a few settings, so it may be that the remote Mac was in a strange state that I've somehow jarred it out of. Or maybe I was just seeing things. In either case, I appreciate your taking the time to clarify the issue, and I'll allow myself to breathe a tentative sigh of relief -- on the assumption it'll keep working the way it is now.
On a more theoretical level ...
Although I understand that connection credentials are intended to persist, I'm not entirely convinced that there's nothing wrong with this. The blog I linked in my original post cites an example of how this arrangement can lead a user to inadvertently grant another user access to files on a remote machine.
Let's say my wife needs a file that I know I have in my admin account on my iMac. Rather than walk all the way over to my desk and put the file in her dropbox, I get her to scoot over, log into the iMac remotely, and drag the file onto her desktop. Then I unmount the iMac and let her get back to work. Presto! I've just given her access to my admin account (and indeed the whole iMac) for 10 hours.
I know, I know, this is really an example of bad computing practice. However, it's the sort of thing folks do every day without thinking about it. Still, we can say this in Leopard's defense: it's up to the user to know how the system works, and to avoid doing things that lead to undesired results.
What makes it a problem is the fact that Leopard is doing something, by default, that its predecessors did not do. And it does so without alerting the user to the fact that things are being done differently. Someone used to the pre-Leopard way of doing things is all too likely to disconnect from a remote computer and walk away, thinking that the remote account is still password protected.
All this makes it possible for a new Leopard user to give another user access to sensitive or valuable data +and remain completely unaware that he has done so.+ Even if that is not as bad as the "second account" scenario I described in my original post, it still strikes me as a bit of a security risk.
I'd be happier if credential persistence were turned off by default. Or if there's a way to turn it off, I'd sure like to know about it.

  • Itunes sync issue cant get past find my iphone page. has been months alr.

When ever i connect my iphone to my computer, it would bring up itunes but as soon as the iphone page loads this appears:

    Set up Find My iPhone
Find My iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) enables you to locate your iPad with Wi-Fi or iPod touch only when it is on and connected to a registered Wi-Fi network. Find My iPhone is not available in all countries.
there does not seem to be a way to get past this page and the links are broken too.i have been having this problem for a few months already and when i tried calling apple, they did not know what to do either. i'm hoping someone would have the answer and the solution to this problem.
    Thx

I had the same problem last night... I solved it but really just got around it.
    background
    - Existing setup was itunes 9.x with an IPOD worked great for many years
    - bought a new iphone 4 monday
    - connected to windows 7 64bit dekstop and got the setup text in itunes for "find my iphone" with two options (jave script links) that were dead links did nothing - you are stuck here
    - tried my other laptop (also already loaded with itunes 9.x same result
    - tried upgrading itunes to 10.2.1 same results
    - wiped the iphone same results
    - removed itunes - used reg cleaner to scrub all references and loaded 10.2.1 itunes fresh from a download (rebooting laptop a lot) Same results
How i got around it after 5 hours of trial and error
    - I got my laptop that never had itunes installed ever - loaded itunes 10.2.1 and then attached the iphone 4 to sync - it installed a new driver for the iphone and the iphone was successfully connected to itunes. I synced to this itunes without any issues. although there was nothing to sync from this machine.
    - I then took the laptop back to the machine that I had not removed itunes (just upgraded itunes) and it was able to connect to itunes and sync without any issues. I had to be make sure it was defined to this laptops copy of itunes but it works now without issue.
I can only conclude that the driver or older version of itunes had set the device in a strange state in regards to syncing and establishing connectivity for a sync with itunes and defining it to a new machine with a new install of itunes and having the driver for iphone 4 freshly installed cleared that state it was in.
More work should be done by the apple engineers to determine technically what the root casuse is but I was able to get around the issue.

  • Acrobat 8.0 update (Windows XP and Vista)

I'm anymore able to update Acrobat 8.0, the following message appear:
For Adobe updater and Adobe Install Manager Update:
You restart the download process, but the files as change on the server
    For Adobe Updater plug-in:
    Unable to verifing file
The exacte same message with Vista environment.
I have try to uninstall the Adobe Reader 9.0, restart the computer, without any change.
    Some one have an idea????...
    Many thanks

    Something scary happened just now.
I'm running Vista Ultimate. Updater proposed an update to my Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Reader 8, so I said go ahead. I will be more careful in future. The update took a very long time (what was it doing all that time?), required my system to be restarted twice (!), and after the second restart left it in a strange state in which several things weren't working, for example Google could not find its cookies, and several programs that normally autostart weren't running. Most alarming of all, in that state the Norton Firewall was turned off.
I don't want to deal with any software that turns off my firewall. If this is Adobe's fault then they should be ashamed of themselves.
After seeing this I restarted again and this time got the completion message from Updater. Everything else seems to be normal. But beware.

  • ITunes Connect login - Apple ID does not have permission to access iTunes Connect.

    Hi,
I have a company iPhone developer account which I registered two years ago.  I have renewed it and it has not expired.  I am the agent and I know the Apple ID and password as I login to the dev portal fine.  I am now trying to publish my first app under this account but I get this message when trying to log into iTunesConnect Apple ID does not have permission to access iTunes Connect.
My account seems to be in some strange state as I invited another developer to my team (my hotmail email account) and then tried to make that user the Agent but that didn't even work, my new user shows up in the list of developers/team members, but I cannot select them in the dropdown to make them the agent, only my current agent name shows.
Is this a hand off to Apple support situation?  I am up against a hard deadline and fear this is going to add significant delays waiting for Apple support to look into it (I've seen some other posts of people waiting 3 weeks with this problem and getting nowhere with support).
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Paul

I only had the one login before.  Yesterday to try to solve it I invited my hotmail account as a developer to the team.  I then tried to make that developer the agent, but even though it shows in the team members, I cannot select the account to be the agent as its not in the dropdown list.
I am on OS X 10.7.3, using Safari.  The dev account did not expire, I renewed it in April 2012 so there is plenty of time left on it.  I am really stuck, this is so frustrating.

  • IP address storing as reverse hexa format in dhcp server

    Hi ,
am looking wired and strange state in my dhcp server(win 2008)
Added my esx machine mac address in dhcp(ex: ip address w.x.y.z) server after few days my esx host ip address changed to 0.0.0.0 .and in dhcp server at(w.x.y.z)
address leases it replaced with reverse hexa format of ipaddress.
I found the workaround for this issue i.e OS reinstall. but after few days again am hitting same issue.
Please help me from this issue

    Thanks.
I'm not sure how the ESX host is setup or configured, but I would have assumed if it's a Windows machine, it would automatically register the proper IP and name in DNS. If it's a native ESX, I would probably look at the host's network config.

  • Categories Column Missing After Import

After importing some photos from my camera my iPhoto window is left in a strange state which I cannot seem to get out of even if I restart iPhoto or reboot the machine. It doesn't show the categories on the left at all and it shows a big blank grey window on the right with nothing to click on. The bottom shows all of the usual controls (Split, Edit, Rotate, Hide, Flag, Book, Calendar, Card, Web Gallery, Email, Print, Order Prints, and iWeb and below them add, info, fullscreen, play, search, and the thumbnail scaler). I was at one point able to fix this somehow by going into Time Machine and doing something (I know not what) and it went back to normal when I returned but I can't seem to replicate the effect now. Help!

    Brian
Move your cursor to the extreme left of the iPhoto Window until it becomes a '+' then click and drag right.
If that doesn't work, try trash the com.apple.iphoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder

  • Ipad restore problem error 102

    Hi All,
I've diligently backed up our iPad and used TM to archive the backups.
Unfortunately now, when I need to restore from a backup I am getting the following error from AppleMobileBackup:
ERROR: Restore message response: 102 mkdir error: No such file or directory (2) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.omnigroup.OmniGraffle/Container/Documents/S ite Wireframe & Mockup.graffle/QuickLook" (MBErrorDomain/102)
From reading that it looks like it is having trouble creating a directory on the iPad for some reason. I guess something wasn't getting saved correctly in the backup and thus can't get restored properly or this iPad directory was in a strange state when it was backed up.
I've searched the Web and there are some similar problems to this with different details (e.g. can't rename file) for the 102 error but no real solution.
I've tried a number of my backups going back a number of months and they all seem to have this error. I guess something on the iPad got messed up a while back and all the backups since then have it included, unfortunatley.
I'm wondering if anyone has a solution that can help me complete this restore?
I'm really not worried about Omnigraffle, I would happily reinstall it, but don't want to lose the rest of the backup.
I wonder if there is a way to make the backup continue / complete ignoring this error?
Or perhaps to remove everything with regards to Omnigraffle from the backup?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.
PS Not really happy when I have backed up all these times and now it is not working.  I think Apple's restore software seems a bit too fragile and should work around issues like this to do the best it can.
This is for an iPad 1 with iOS5.1.1 restoring from latest iTunes on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

    Hi BKN,
Thanks for your post and sorry to hear you are in the same situation (but it's good not to be alone ;-)
Some notes on your comments (can't seem to easily split quoted messages here):
    1. I don't  seem to get the "Unexpected connection closure..." error from iTunes that you get (not sure that is significant though)
    2. With regards to the special character(s) in the filename.  I have hex edited the manifest.mbdb and changed my "&" to a "A" in the filename and the problem still existed (with an "A" in the error path), so I hope we can rule that out.
    3. I have not really used Omnigraffle iCloud syncing, just turned on iCloud at the end of the change-over period and haven't used it for file sync-ing (at least not that I know of), so perhaps can rule that out.
    4. I have Dropbox running on Mac and client is on iPad (and iPhones).  I don't think my Omnigraffle docs have come anywhere near Dropbox though, again not use Omnigraffle on iPad for a while.  Have used on Mac quite a bit though.
    5. I am still running Lion on my MacBook Pro and the machine doing the iTunes syncing is a Mac mini running Snow Leopard Server, so I think we can rule out iCloud issues, again since I haven't really gotten into iCloud yet.
I have done a lot of investigating and experimenting (with no luck unfortunately).  I have used iBackupRobot (free version that works well, click cancel past the registration dialogs to get full functionality I believe) and Hex Fiend as mentioned above.
I also tried another one (called iBackupRestore or something like that but it required mono and X, which I had, but ran very slowly and failed - I think it only works for iOS4 or less). So, don't try that.
With iBackupRobot I extracted my problematic document and associated files. It gave me:
    Documents_Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle
    Documents_Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle_data.plist
    Documents_Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle_data.plist.info
    Documents_Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle_QuickLook_Preview.pdf
    Documents_Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle_QuickLook_Preview.pdf.info
    Documents_Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle.info
    _ is for /
The .info files just contain details of the mapping from real filename to the hex filenames inside the backup (useful to find the files and remove them as I did, see below).
I noticed that the data.plist file seemed to be empty so I filled it with content from another data.plist file in Omnigraffle's documents.  Interestingly, the error message changed a bit then (IIRC) to this:

2012-10-20 22:47:40.605 AppleMobileBackup[30109:903] ERROR: Restore message response: 102 mkdir error: No such file or directory (2) at path "/var/mobile/Applications/8AF90D98-FB52-4E3E-877F-FD0A0F45C0A1/Documents/Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle/QuickLook" (MBErrorDomain/102)
Note the path no longer includes SafeHarbor (which I believe is the temporary storage area whilst apps are being loaded etc). So some progress but a very similar error.
I have tried removing the hex-name files from the backup but MobileBackup detects them and says the backup is corrupt and will not proceed.  The problem is I can't see how we can edit the manifest.mbdb (apart from simple hex editing).
I've tried editing the plist files Manifest.plist and info.plist file (with Property List editor) but again no luck, deleting items (Omnigraffle application entries) is detected as a corrupt backup and MobileBackup will not proceed.
It is interesting how it is the QuickLook folder that is listed in the error.  Mine contains a Preview.pdf file which seems to be fine.
I'm also not sure what the error message actually means.  I guess it mean that when trying to create the QuickLook directory the path up to there didn't exist (e.g. the "Site Wireframe & Mockup.graffle" directory or one of its parents didn't exist).
    I could be wrong though.
I visited an Apple Store and tried to talk to a Genius but didn't get much help from the iPad Genius (should have registered for a Mac Genius apparently), he admitted he wasn't a Mac or iPad Genius (good on him) and went out back to ask his guru colleague.
He came back and said his colleague thought the real error was the -1, which he said indicated a hardware fault.
I don't think they knew what they were talking about, on some Apple support pages it does refer to -1 being something about hardware / comms fault, but I also think it is just a catch-all error code for iTunes when it doesn't know what else to report.
He suggested trying on another iPad but I don't have one and he wouldn't let me use one of theirs. I guess I could buy one and return it after testing for a refund, but I doubt it is a hardware problem myself.
I was hoping they may have some secret way to force the restore to continue or to selectively ignore certain applications on restoring (which may come to iTunes one day I hope).  It seems the Apple stores don't specialise in this kind of suppor though.
He suggested ringing Apple phone support / Applecare but I wasn't too keen on trying to explain this and share details over the phone.  I might give it a go, even though you had no success because I might luck out on someone who knows more etc.
I think I have done a full reset, sync'ed all apps and then tried the restore - fail.
I have tried so many things I am now having trouble remembering what I tried and how each failed.
My restore seems to go pretty well for quite a while before it fails, so I think it is restoring it's just getting an error when doing this one document for Omnigraffle and can't get past that.
If we could stop it restoring Omnigraffle I think we would be good to go but, as mentioned above, I can't see how we could do that without some serious editing of the backup, especially the plists and manifest.mbdb, but I am not expert ont hose.
Very sad to hear that Apple had no ways to work around a file or error.  I think it is a fault in their restore software - it is too fragile, not catching the said error and fixing the directory path. But I am not holding my breathe for them to assist (but will try to get help).
Thanks for your notes and please keep me informed of how you go / if I can help in anyway.
Unfortunately, I am very busy at work these days and can only work on this on the weekends.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.

  • Editing titles or clicking on clips causes serious error

Problem with new mac mini (purchased two days ago), no problem on iMac (with
same software install, checked with system profiler). Tried with two mac minis
(replaced the just purchased one with a replacement after a discussion with a genius)
    Mac OS X : 10.5.7
    iMovie 09' : 8.0.2 (741)
Editing titles/text, changing titles/back ground lengths causes. Could be associated with generally clicking on clips (possibly double clicking)
    1) Loss of control of inspector window
    2) Inability to share the video (the options are greyed out)
    3) Inability to return to the project selection window
    4) Inability to add more titles/backgrounds
    5) Inspector seems trapped in a strange state, unable to close
iMovie reports the following messages via console(as example)
    18/05/2009 16:23:11 iMovie[325] NSMutableRLEArray objectAtIndex:effectiveRange:: Out of bounds
    this error repeats many times.
    Anyone please help!

Since this is a new rig, I'm assuming this is a PPro CS6 installation you're referring to?

  • IPhone Camera disabled?

This appeared, possibly due to the update, perhaps not.
After buying my iPhone I went on a road trip and took severa hundered pictures using my iPhone, and they turned out great!
About a week later, which is about two days ago, I turned my camera on on the iPhone and my camera appears to be disabled.
The screen is black and the camera button doesn't work to take a picture. If I rotate the camera, the button icon rotates, but thats about all I can do.
I really hope I accidentally disabled the camera, somehow, and the iPhone is ok. I really love it (WTG Apple!) and I hope my iPhone isn't broken
Any ideas before I try the Restore in iTunes?

    Wow, thanks for your replies.
I have tried reset a few times also, and am now in the midst of my 1st Restore. Was hoping it would help, but from what I'm reading here I won't keep my hopes up.
It's a strange state the camera has got in, when you go to camera, you still see the shutter open, but just to a black screen, and the photo button is disabled, so the iPhone software must know it's not getting anything from the hardware.
Update: the Restore didn't work, though it did restore it to version 1.01, the version that I had the issue with afterwards, and not 1.00. Guess I will be heading to the Apple store tomorrow also.
    Thanks for your help!
