Strange "strobe" effect when doing slow motion

hi
after using fcp for a year now, i strangly encountered a problem in a video i need to deliver in 2 days.
whenever i did a 50% slow motion i get a strange "strobe" effect. when the frame is more or less static then you wont be able to see it but when the camera pans or the object in the frame moves it is very disturbing.
this is only noticable when viewed on a tv set, not on my display.
i thought it was in the encoding so i did the whole "export using QT" again, this time making sure its 2 pass VBR 6.8 to 8 mbps. still there.
i am working on a Pal system without a monitor so i burned the video onto a dvd using dvdsp (as usual) and then played it in a pal dvd player and tv but this strobe thing is still there.
b.t.w the interlace option on the "export using QT" was set as auto, the same as always.
i didnt do anything different this time but still i get that problem. what could it be ? all the settings in fcp settings are set to 100% quality and the video is fully rendered.
i appriciate your comments and help.
thanx

  • When I view or upload files (such as on You Tube) there is no longer normal image movement. All action has a "strobe" effect as in slow motion, but audio seems normal. Is this a plug-in problem?

All of a sudden when I view a file that's been downloaded, or viewed on line, whether in Windows Media, or on You Tube on line site, or Power DVD Play program, the image appears as if it was in a slow motion "strobe" effect, while the audio sounds consistent, (barring the frequent stalls). If I burn a DVD, it has the slow motion strobe effect burnt into the disc as well & is difficult to view on a DVD player. Is this a plug-in problem that has suddenly manifested, and is there a way of getting the system back to it's normal operation??

    Hello Joe.
Try disabling all add-ons (that's extensions, plugins and themes, go into ''Tools > Add-ons'') except for Flash and see if the problem persists. If they don't, enable one add-on at a time until you find the problem. If they do, try a new [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles Firefox profile] and see if it has the same issues. If it does (make sure other plugins aren't enabled), you need to contact Adobe for support on their Flash plugin ([https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ updating] it will be the first thing they tell you to do). If it doesn't, please tell me.

  • Imported video has strange squiggly effect when there is motion

    Hey everyone,
I am trying to edit and put together a video from our honeymoon. I am brand new to macs, and the whole editing business. Unfortunately I have a Samsung SC-MX10 camcorder which is dreadful as far as mac compatibility goes. According to my research, it saves video in the MPEG-4 format using the SEDG codec.
So I finally was able to get all the files onto my mac (iMovie doesn't sync with the camcorder) and they are all .avi files. I downloaded Perian and I am able to view the files with quicktime. However, getting them into iMovie was a different story.
With much more research online, I downloaded QTAmateur which is supposedly a free version of QuickTime Pro, and I have several video converting options available. Among the list, I chose to convert them to quicktime videos. When I open up these converted files in QuickTime, they work perfectly. HOWEVER, when I import them to iMovie, they suddenly have this strange "squiggly" look whenever there is motion in the video. It gets really bad, and i don't want to have this in my final product. Does anyone know why it is doing this, or how I can fix it?
If anyone can figure this out it would be AMAZING!
    THANKS!

That's DV video for you - it runs at 13GB per hour. Your cam highly compresses the video to the MPEG4 format, which actually is detrimental to the quality of the video image.
Onu Marx stated that iMovie HD would give you better results. I think he meant to say iMovie HD6 and you may see some difference, as 08 uses single field processing, which eliminates every other line in a frame, whereas HD6 uses the whole frame. iMovie HD6 is a free download for owners of iLfe 08:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6
If you are unhappy with all this extra work you need to do to edit from the Samsung, I suggest you look for a new cam, preferably a miniDV tape cam with firewire, which will work seemlessly with all iMovie versions and give you great lossless DV right off the bat.
With reference to your question - "Is there no other format . . . NO.

  • I would like to know when the slow motion video recording will come in 5c. in which update u will release it.

    Dear sir ,
i would like to know when the slow motion video recording will come in 5c. in which update u will release it.

I'm afraid the processor in the iPhone 5c does not support that feature. Since you can't change the hardware setup inside the phone, this will probably not be introduced at all for this model.

can i upgrade imovie 08 to something that does slow motion?

There is also a free app called JES Deinterlacer that can do slow or fast motion outside of iMovie 08.

  • Is it possible to play back an After Effects composition in slow motion? (CS6)

    Hi,
I'd like to play back the composition in slow motion so I can make sure the animations are smooth.
I find that sometimes you see gaps in your animation when you play it back frame by frame but you only just notice that something might be off when you play the timeline back in real time. So this would be for "proofing" your footage. I find the frame by frame approach a bit tedious for a lengthy composition.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

You can enforce a different framerate on the Preview palette.

  • Why am I suddenly getting a strange banding effect when printing.

I've been using Adobe Photoshop CS5 for the last two years and I've started getting a strange banding effect on my prints.  Photoshop seems to be the only application that is effected.  I print on a large format printer, my drivers are up to date, if I print a smaller size and fit to page (test print) the print is ok.  When I print to full size I start having the problem.

However, when something starts acting weird suddenly, that is usually a sign to re-set your Photoshop preferences.
Preferences files vary by name and location for each version of Photoshop.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

  • Strange issue encountered when doing costing run

    Dear experts,
I encountered a strange problem when doing costign run use CK40N.
I created a costing run on 23.12.2010 In the costing  run the validity was set  from 01.01.2011 to 31.12.2011, I did all the steps except release, all steps were done successfully
I released costing run on 01.01.2011, but when I hit a material to check the costing date, found the costing was only avaliable to 31.01.2011 not 31.12.2011.
I was wondering if any actions or modifications done will affact on the costing date of material?
Have you ever meet this problems?
    Please give me some help.
Thanks for your time and concern.
    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Sarada & ajay
    Thanks for your comment.
    The most strange thing is...
When I display costing run, the valid to date is 31.12.2011, but in material, it shows 31.01.2011....
I did test again, to change the valid to date in CK40N of the costing run, but the result is, date in material alway the same with what displayed in costing run in T-code CK40N.
One more information, we usually do costing run per month, and we just change to valid date to end of year from 2011.
At first I thought it might have some relation with modifications to costing variant, but after doing test, the modifications will not affect.
The valid date in material should always be the same with what displayed in costing run.
And after the first step 'Selection' in costing run, the date will not be changed.
So I could not come out with any idea with issue......

  • How do you add video effects-slow motion

Not real happy with 08 over previous versions but I would like to gain back some of the functionality that I regularly used. How do I add special effects, such as slow motion to a video clip or a portion of a video clip.

How do you do it IMovie HD in Ilife 08?
Both applications can be run on the same computer. Use whichever application best serves your needs. If you need a lot of plug-in effects, use HD. If few or nor effects other than standard transitions and titles are required and speed is paramount, then use iMovie '08. If you like being innovative and want to try your hand at creating your own effects, use iMovie '08 and learn how perform pre- and post-edits to create your own fast motion, slow motion, stop motion, pseudo time lapse, still framed, backgrounded, blended, layered, picture-in-picture, etc. that may "tickle your fancy."

  • Bad slow motion

I shoot in 720p 50. When applying slow motion, say 25% or 10% the result is far from good. I have tried to use normal, frame blending and optical flow. And the optical flow gives the worst result. It is difficult to describe the result in other word than extreme blurriness and bizarre movemets. Is this something that FXPX can not handle or I am doing something wrong ?

Rotoscoping is the art of making i.e. a Bird flying accross the sky, stand alone... What I mean is that it will in this case leave you with two layers of movies (Or two movies)
Imagine duplicating the clip I am describing above, twice... One is lying in the main timeline and its duplicate is lying directly above it. Both clips identical.
Now, we'll "mask out" the background of the above clip. So that if we solo the that clip you would see all black(Depending on your movie background (The black is actually transparency) and then the bird flying accross the screen. In the clip below we'd "Mask out" the bird and replace its place in the film with content from it surroundings (Much like clone stamping in photoshop) ... In the end and if the clip above (with the bird only) had a carefully created mask, we'll have the bird on one layer and the background on the other.....
(IF it was a steady shot thus not panning, craning or sliding) we could create a clean-plate of the background and just have that sitting as a still image while the bird is flying)
Anyway, now we can apply optical flow to the bird and if the mask is tight, the most motion blur will have vanished and our result is great looking... Now there might be a few places with optical flow artifacts... But then we'd just mask those out as well ;-)
This level of masking (Rotoscoping) cannot be done in FCPx -- you would use After Effects for such or motion... However, AE is much greater for such (in my opinion at least ;-)))
In above case, I would problably wind up with MUCH more than 2 layers of video. More like  50... The clip I wrote about in my earlier post had about 500 ;-))))
Rotoscoping is vast and great... And it is more of an art than a technique. Basic rotoscoping would be to apply a mask to a man's sweater and keyframe it to fit the motion... Then alter its hue or tag a big sign saying "Rotoscope Me" on his chest..
    Possibilities are endless ;-)))
Mocha Pro which is a planer tracker is the best tool on the planet to help one automate the "Masking & Tracking" & it comes free in special version with After Effects.
    hope this helps ;-)

  • How can I make slow motion work in iMovie 10.0.2?

Is there a way to make effects such as slow motion work in iMovie 10.0.2 (OSX 10.9.2)? In Modify drop down, Slow Motion is black, but the speed options are grayed out. Same with Fast Forward, Instant Replay, and Rewind. Anyone know why some capabilities were delted with the new versions of iMovie?

    Jim,
The menu options (slo mo, fast wd, instant replay, rewind) are black; however, once I select one of these, all the speed options are gray and ineffective. Right click of a clip does not have a "show speed editor." And I am working in the timeline and not the event browser. Any other suggestions? Do we both have the same version (10.0.2)?
    Thanks

  • SLOW MOTION CS5.5 PROBLEM

    HI
i downloaded adobe after effect just to make battlefield 3 montage's
after i looked to some youtube slow motion tutorial's
    i did every thing right
    but my problem is
    in twixtor 5
    when i slow motion
the sound keep going and not slowed with the video
    and ruin all the video
how can i make the sound slowed with the video
+ the video exported too much laggy !?
    thx

Twixtor doesn't do sound. AE is a compositing program, not an edit suite, after all. You could use normal time remapping or better yet do it in a proper audio editing tool liek Audition or Soundbooth. For the rest, please read this and also do read the help on rendering and al lthat stuff...

  • Movie is choppy in slow motion...

    Hi there,
I'm using iMovie HD for movies from my Canon MiniDV Camcorder. Importing and cutting works fine, quality of movie/sound is ok.
After, I use iDVD to burn DVDs from my own movies, works fine too. My only problem: Slow Motion!
When applying slow motion to a piece of movie, it is very choppy. When burned to DVD and watching it on tv, still the same thing.
    I'm using a G4 1700mhz, 1gb Ram. What could my problem be?
    Thanks alot for any ideas!
    -Lucas

    Hi Lucas,
there's a simple technical reason: to get a smooth video, you need 25/30 frames per second, so does your camcorder record the video...
apply a slow-mo just doubles (triples...) the frames - in result, you have 12 or less fps... that is choppy...

  • Slow Motion Video in Revel

    Few questions...
When will slow motion playback be supported?
Are the slow motion ranges saved in the video or is this extra information not stored in the video container?
Will the ability to save video to the camera roll be added?

I'll take this feature request to product management.  I can't say if or when such support will be available.  In the meantime, as a workaround use iMovie to export your video with the slo-mo effect to your Camera Roll so Revel can import the processed version.

  • Slow motion is skipping a frame help !!

I am trying to make a skate edit when I slow motion a trick then let it play in regular time the end of slow motion skips plenty of frames what do I doooof

    Not a particularly complete answer ... ...
though from what you've stated it's not a particularly capable machine. These programs are resource/hardware intensive.
To "render" a timeline, you select a section, right-click, and from the options that pop up choose "render" that section. It means that PrPro will create a "preview" for that area to use in playback, though any time you change anything on that bit you'll need to render it again.
NOT the same as render-out meaning to export out for other use.
