Strange Symbol and Dead IPOD!!!

I'm having problems getting my IPOD to work.
I believe it is a 20Gb G3 (one with 4 buttons below the screen and a wheel).
When I turn it on, the apple symbol comes up for a couple of seconds and then a strange symbol, like the charger that plugs into the bottom of the IPOD comes up.
The IPOD then dies.
Any help would be muchly apreciated.

T61 - Freezing, Strange Symbols and colors

Okay, my T61 just started freezing up recently. It starts usually while I am in Vista, but it doesn't really matter what it is that I'm doing. The screen will freeze up and display a greenish/orangish tint. It will then shut down and restart, and when it restarts the screen becomes corrupted: displaying odd symbols, a blue and red tinted screen, the screen chopped up. This will continue until the Vista welcome screen, then it will shut down and continue that startup process. Occasionally I can start it up without these corruptions, but usually they begin on startup. On the times that I have been able to start it up regularly, I have to go into safe mode or else the thing will freeze up a few minutes after I log in. In safe mode I can do what I need to do without it freezing up, but there are still sometimes corruptions which show up on the screen.
This is the second time that this has happened to me, and I am now out of warranty. The first time was about a year ago, only about 4-5 months after getting the computer. I shipped it off to get it fixed, and they replaced the planar board. I haven't noticed any problems until last Friday, when it started doing it again out of the blue. My warranty expired in June, but I'm hoping that this could somehow be covered, especially since I've had the exact same problem before.
I've also noticed some other people on here with these problems. here and here. It seems like it could be a problem with the Nvidia GPU, but who knows. Hopefully someone on here can help me out, because otherwise I'm left with this crappy 4 year old toshiba.

Welcome to the forum!
My guess would be that it's GPU that's overheating (for whatever reason) and failing. Since you're out of warranty (and out of luck with the whole nVidia thing) try downloading the latest version of ThinkPad Fan Control from here, it's configured for T61 as a default machine and see whether it helps:

HT4623 THE SCREEN ON MY IPOD TOUCH SHOWS THE iTUNES SYMBOL AND THE CONNECTION CORD. IT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING IT IS FROZEN LIKE THAT. WHAT TO DO?

The screen on my ipod touch is frozen with the iTunes symbol and the connection cord. I don't know how to get past this. Has been like this for over a week. Need help PLEASE.

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

Firefox 4 Beta has problem when printing shipping pages from Amazon Marketplace, it shows and prints strange symbols instead of the packing slip and the label. Do you have any idea why is that?

Well, I installed it 2 days ago and yesterday when I tried to print a packing slip and a label for Amazon customers it printed so many strange symbols that were nothing like what they are supposed to be, not even close. When I printed it with another browser it was all fine, so it is obviously a problem of the new version of my favorite browser. Probably something with the encoding, but since I'm not a computer geek, I cannot give more info. :(

I do not believe that your parents will go "spastic" because your iPod was stolen. I'm thinking that you jailbroke it yourself. Am I correct?

Maunally restore it. In order to do this:
-Download the iOS 5.1.1 firmware from here http://www.redmondpie.com/download-5.1.1-ios-for-iphone-4s-4-3gs-ipad-ipod-touch -direct-official-links/
1. After downloading the firmware from the given link, open iTunes and click on your device.
2. Now press SHIFT on your keyboard and while pressing it click on "Restore".
3. A dialog box will appear.
4. Select the firmware you downloaded and click ok.
5. Done!!! Your iPhone will now be restored to 5.1.1 and if you had backed up your iPod before, then you can put all its settings afterwards.

Try manually placin the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.

It is either an erased iPod or an iPod that has a problem. The screen is telling you to connect the iPod to your computer via the USB cable and restore via iTunes. For how to restore see:

my ipod was dead for over three days. i hadnt the slightest idea y it died but just today i fixed it. all i had to to was hold down the pause button and the center one to reset it. i thought that all i had to do was reset it before but i thought (and everything on apple.com told me to hold down the menue button and the pause button) (bastards!) but anyway i thought that thats what i had to do but i just held down pause and center and it restarted
the problem, (dead ipod) occured because i had the usb cord going through a usb dock(that had 4 other slots.) this dock didnt allow the ipod to be recharging when it was hooked up the computer. so it compleetly ran out of batteries. whell enough to not respond or turn on and oddly not enough to recharge. idk but anyway all i had to do was reset it by holding down the Center and the Pause
ps if the center and pause dont work try the center and menu.

Turn off your comp and disconnect the iPod. Reset the iPod into disk mode by holding Menu + Center, then when the screen blanks out, release both buttons and switch to holding the play pause and center buttons. This will put the iPod into disk mode.
With the iPod disconnected from your comp, turn your comp on and let it boot up fully. Start nothing until it has fully booted. Then open the iPod updater. Then connect your iPod. Hopefully the restore button will become available and you'll be able to finish the process.
Let us know if this works.
A question for you: Is your USB port high powered? Apple didn't supply a charger with their iPod product for this model line, and I've always wondered what problems this will cause for people who try to use the iPod with low powered USB ports because they don't have any option. Apple claims this is not a supported configuration, but I'd hazard a guess that more than 40% of all computer users (not iPod users) don't have access to a computer with powered USB ports.

Simply type command 8 again. That toggles the "show paragraphs" function.

There is no way to remotely track or disable an iPod nano, either for you or Apple. As it can't connect to the Internet on its own, Find my iPhone isn't available for it.

This happens when the operating system on the phone becomes corrupted. This could be because of a failed update to the OS or even a hardware failure due to being dropped or submerged in water. If you follow the instructions indicated, hopefully iTunes will be able to restore the OS and afterward you can restore the settings from a backup (assuming you have one).
If this does not solve the problem you will need to take the phone to an authorized repair center.
