Strange things with Disc Utility

I have an external FW disc that DU seems determined to to tell me that it is 1.7TB in size, but the partition states the correct size. Is this fixable? I have already run DU & DiscWarrior and all seems clean. One big issue is that several hundred newly rendered .tif files are somehow corrupted and will not open up in PS.
Any ideas most welcome.

Is this a "D2" or a plain single drive?
Doesn't sound like an "endorsement" for either DW or DU. How about TechTool Pro 4.5.1? Data Rescue? Drive Genius?
Is it possible it got down to less than 10% free space? in which case the directory probably is "history" and DW will only write a new directory if there is room for a single fragment directory (I think that says it) while TTP can write the directory in 'fragments' which helps under an "over full" situation.
If you can see it to mount, and can begin by removing what is already backed up, you might gradually get it to a point where the directory can be fixed. It sounds likely that you have over-lapped extents, but why DW/DU gave it a "clean bill" seems... troubling.

Strange things with keyboard

strange things with keyboard happens on my macbook - after cleaning keyboard (rag with spirit) I start mac and get sticky key (continuously type one letter and beeping on speaker). I shutdown mac, remove key and clean space under it... it helps - but I found other strange bug:
pressing left shift - gives me capital letter "O"
letter "O" - always capitalized
| symbol always comes with return button
now I use external keyboard - all good on it... but macbook keyboard still wont work properly
what can it be? how fix it?

thanks for your reply, and you might be right about using USB v2.0. The PS/2-USB adapters I am using are v.1.0 so may be incompatible, even though this technology is supposed to be backward-compatable.
Since this problem reared its ugly head, I have disabled the Toshiba applications and monitored the situation - OK so far, but I will keep an eye on it.

Lion: error trying to delete a partition with disc utility

Hi to all. Today I tryed to delete an old and unused partition with disc utility, but after starting the process an error pop up ans says: Necessary support for file system resize, like HFS+ with enabled journaling.
What should i do? I've created a cd with iPartition, and it works, but i prefer to use disc utility. Can anyone help?

Select the partition in Disk Utility and see if you can turn on journaling, if it's an HFS+ volume. How is the drive presently partitioned: APM, GUID, or MBR?
How old is this partition and how was it created?

Strange thing with ExternalInterface when profiling

I use Scout for analyze application and found out strange thing with ExternalInterface:
I regularly get some overheads with ExternalInterface._evalJS. But I don't any explicit calls of ExternalInterface.call during this overheads. Does it mean that ExternalInterface make internal interactions during flash player lifecycle, or something else?

From the screenshot, it looks like you've registered an anonymous function as the callback for a "timer" event (the "MethodInfo-xxx" is an auto-generated name that Flash gives to anonymous functions), and this function is calling into ExternalInterface. It's your code (or possibly that of a framework you're using) - not internal Flash player functionality.

How to create a FAT32 partition that is primary instead of logical with disc utility?

I am trying to create a partition on an external drive, so I can use it as a hard drive for my XBOX 360. I already have data on the drive, and there is more data than I can back up. I have tried using disc utility to partition it and I use the MS-DOS FAT type, however when I plug in to my XBOX it doesnt recognize the drive, and wants to reformat the entire thing. I have read on other forums that the partition needs to be of the "primary" type instead of logical, but I cannot figure how to set it up that way. Any help would be great, thanks!

I found this blog post shortly after the first BootCamp beta was out. I successfully split mine into three partitions per the instructions. However, since Leopard now lets you live partition your disk, you can probably do the partitioning via Disk Utility instead of using diskutil in Terminal.

Proper "Formatting" of second internal drive with Disc Utility??

Using a second internal HD for data storage, was formated 4 months ago with default settings from Disc Utility. When I called the drive manufacturer today about corrupted Photoshop files (10 in 4 months) occuring on this drive, they recommended that I backup, Erase and Format as MAC OS Extended "NOT" Journaled.
Before I start - any comments, recommendations??
Would "Journaled" or "Not Journaled" actually cause corruption in 150mb Photoshop files??

I'd run Disk Utility and have a look at the disks; I'd look to verify the volume structures.
Journaled HFS+ is the default for installations, too.
Formatting usually doesn't help with disk hardware that is going wonky. Bad blocks are bad blocks, and failing disks tend to have increasing numbers of bad blocks. Reformatting a failing disk "papers over" the bad blocks, at least until the next crop of bad blocks arises and corrupts something else.
Formatting does help if there's a corruption in the volume structure.
Would also look to off-load everything and either replace the disk with a new one (wonky disks aren't worth bothering with), and/or run a write-comparison test and pound on the drive some.
Journaling can be shut off on the fly; see the diskutil man page for details on the disableJournal knob.
I'd also try to determine if this is something specific to Photoshop, or if this is a more generic problem. Look also for patches for Photoshop, and do look to update whatever version of Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server is in use here.
There's no obvious mention of HFS+ and Journaling and Photoshop over at Adobe, either.

Help needed because of strange things with Lollipop!

Hello everyone. I've updated to Lollipop 5.0.2 .... But some strange things are happening.
I've updated using PC companion. When I finished downloading the update files from the Net
,and I've turned off my phone so the update starts. After 1 minute something wrong went with my
computer. It restarts by itself. So my phone didn't boot anymore. I tried to reupdate it, but
that couldn't be done cause the phone is not booting. So I had one option, which is to do
a system repair to repair my phone. I did it and I succeed. So my phone is now updated to lollipop
, but of course all the data in the phone were wiped out. This is not a problem, I can redownload the apps I want.
The problem is that on Kitkat I used to play a game called ( plants vs zombies ) , but on Lollipop
Whenever I open the game it shuts down after half a minute. I thought the problem was
because I moved it to the SD card, so I moved it to the internal storage of my phone
but no change. It still shuts down by itself.
Another thing is that when I install an app, in normal state there are moving lines from the above
to show that the app is installing . Sometimes those lines disappear , I don't know if this is a problem or not.

Hi! Sorry, I've been busy and hadn't gone on the forum for about 2 weeks haha. Uhm I do not experience the problem anymore it was a long time ago, from where do you download your APK files? I used 1MobileMarket for the download of PvZ2 but I receive updates via Google PlayStore. The only thing I can suggest is that you uninstall it, try downloading it vis 1MobileMarket and see if it works. If not I really don't know what the problem is.. I had my problems with PvZ on the Z, not the Z2, but it was the same you are experiencing with the game. I did notice that whenever I did a factory reset or system repair, I'd lose all my PvZ gaming data although I had my Google Play Account logged it to sync my data. As for the lines while installing the app; If the apps work normal after installing (the lines still didn't show up or disappeared) I don't think it might be such a problem. As long as you can run the apps. Hope this helps!

Burning DVD's with disc utility

HI,
Ok so my imac was just basically rebuilt (new hard drive, logic board & power supply). I use to have Panther and was able to make copies of a friend's movie for him using disc utility with no problem. Now after the rebuild I have tiger and am having an issue. I am able to make a disc image and burn the dvd but the dvd won't play in the dvd player? It says disc not supported? I am using the same original that I used prior to the rebuild so I know it works or should work anyway. Any ideas? I need to make 10 copies of some old family movies for a reunion this weekend so I need to figure this out ASAP so if anyone can HELP I would really appreciate it!!

How, exactly, are you burning the disk images to the blank DVD? You should have no problems getting an exact duplicate if you do it like this:
Mount the disk image you want to burn to a DVD
Open Disk Utility
Click on the icon in the sidebar for the disk image you just mounted (not the icon nested below it)
Go to the "Images" menu and click "Burn"

Strange things with checkbox

Hi! I have a strange problem: In liveCycle Designer ES 8.2 I have on Master Page checkbox "mycheckbox".
My code:

    myPage.presence = "hidden";
When I clicked on mycheckbox happen strange things - mycheckbox will not be checked! I don't understand what is wrong.

If you keep any interactive fields in the Master page like text field or check box, as Malcolm said you will loose the values in it.
This happens only when you try to hide some pages. because the form will be remerged again and it can bring back the values entered in the fields present only in      the body page. It will not hold any values entered for the master page. That is why your check box is behaving wierd. To get more clarity on this, keep a text field in the master page, and on its exit event, try to hide one of your pages on the form. When you preview the form and type the value on text field and exit from it, the text field will become null and also your required page will be hidden.
Your problem solution:
    For the check fields you want to have in Master page, maintain the duplicate hidden check fields in one of the body page. Try to assign the checked values to the hidden fields in the change event of check fields and retrieve the values back to the masterpage checkfields in the exit event.
This below should work for you in the events of master page checkbox:

Strange thing with set update calc

Hello, i see a strange behavior with intelligent calculation, In my outline i have the time dimension like this, Year Qtr1 Jan Feb Mar Qtr2 Qtr3 Qtr4 When I run a calc script: SET UPDATE CALC OFF; SET CACHE HIGH; SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH; fix("member") calc dim(D1,D2,D3,D4,..); endfix; I see values of quarters are tripled and further the values of year is quadrupled (a total of 12 times). When removed SET UPDATECALC OFF; it works fine Do someone has any insight into this Thanks Rama 

The calc engine doesn't evaluate a time rollup outside of the time dimension... Each dimension has it's own rules for aggregation, and they are evaluated one dimension at a time. So, once you have your quarter total for say, "New York City", it will be added to all the other cities in "NY State" to get the state total. This "NY State" quarter total for product "x" will then be added to all the other "NY State" quarter totals for any other products to get the product rollups, etc... Of course, this is based on a Time, Location, Product sequence. Another way to look at this, is that only when the Time dimension is being aggregated will the rollup for "Jan", "Feb", and "Mar" be used to calculate "Qtr 1". If you need a concrete analogy, examine the way row totals and column totals are used in excel to obtain a grand total, you could do the sequence in either way (assuming a simple sum). Where intelligent calc fits in: now assume with your row and column totals that only one cell is modified... You need to recalc the row total, the column total, and the grand total. The row and column totals are direct dependents (formula wise), while the grand total is directly dependent on the recalculated row/column totals. This progression continues until all known dependent roll-ups/formulas have been evaluated. HTH

Update to 1.2.3 bricked 60 GB iPod video - strange things in disk utility

In brief - my wife hadn't updated her iPod in quite a while. It's been pulling nursery duty for the past year. She wanted to switch out some music, so she connected the iPod to her laptop (Powerbook running OS X.4.9).
We updated to the latest iTunes. Were prompted to update the iPod to firmware 1.2.3, then the trouble began. Update ran, files started to transfer, then everything locked up at about 2GB of music moved.
Went through the 5R's. Got in to the restore loop that so many other 1.2.3 users have found themselves in.
Decided to poke around in the file system and also to try a disk erase.
Disk Utility is showing the iPod as a 2TB drive (yes, it thinks it is two terabytes!) No option in Disk Utility will work. Tried to partition (thought it would re-write the partition table). The attempt fails with the following:

Input/Output error.
Now here is where it get's trippy. opened up a Terminal window and ran through some command line steps -
disktool -l reports a drive as disk 2

Tried to zero-out the drive using disk utility (one site suggested this had worked for a bricked iPod) but it didn't work. Now the pdisk doesn't even report a partition map to work with. Things keep going from bad to worse... and I started at terrible.
Does anyone have any pointers on what to do next to get a this thing working? Or is it time to invoke my wife's applecare?

Hi, I have the Logic3 Universal Dock, using S-Video and stereo line out for Photos and Videos with sound to my TV, which works well.
BUT NO MUSIC when I want to play just music through the TV! Is this a software issue? You say you used to be able to hear music through your TV. Apple please help here! Thanks.

Unable to burn with Disc Utility

I have a mac mini superdrive and I want to burn some idvd projects on DVDs that we made with students last year. I started burning one and it went fine until the end. Now I am trying to burn another project that is much bigger than the first one. It works fine until almost the end and then I get the error:"Unable to burn...The device failed to respond properly unable to recover or retry".
I am using the same blank dvds as for the first project and last year I did burn this project on the same computer. What can I do?

*A few suggestions:*
Repairing permissions & then restarting your computer usually cures "burning" hiccups. Should be done after each burning session.
Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

Strange thing with Xcode

Hi,
I created a thread over in the Mac OS X forums, but I've been redirected over here. My question is about the C programming language and Xcode. I recently picked up my C programming book to start where I left off a few months ago, however I ran into some trouble using Xcode 3 in Leopard.
For some reason, I was not able to get a program containing the 'scanf' function to work. The program doesn't even initiate (I've tried putting a simple 'printf' command as the 2nd line). It just sits there "running" while nothing is happening. But what's really strange is that the exact same code works perfectly when built with Xcode 2 in Tiger. Its not a very complex program, just 20 lines or so... but I don't understand why it works with one version of Xcode and not another.
And as if by magic, I can't get 'if' statements to work with Xcode in Tiger (Xcode 2). But, they work just fine with Xcode in Leopard (Xcode 3). Go figure! This problem is a little different, because my simple 25-line program just terminates immediately after starting. I'd like to get this resolved, but nothing I do seems to work. Reinstalling Xcode both on Tiger and Leopard did nothing. Even trashing the preferences and restarting had no effect. Anyone have an idea?

You're probably right about my code being wrong, but I can't seem to find the problem. Please be patient with me here as I am new to programming.
