Strange Time Capsule Error

Hello,
I woke up this morning, logged into my Mac and got a strange error about sparseerror from my time capsule. I clicked ok and tried to run time machine again. Then I got the following error
I've restarted the time capsule and get this every time Time Machine tries to connect.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this error? I made no changes on my end before this error came up.
Thanks,
Tim

About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.
So in your case you can try using the Time Machine application to remove older backups or you can use Airport Utility to erase the Time Capsule's drive and begin again.
But whatever you do DO NOT just delete files from the backup with the Finder. This will screw up the backup index leading to perhaps many hours for Time Machine to re-index. Only use the Time Machine application to delete items from a Time Machine backup.

Time Capsule error 22 - My time capsule was working fine and didn't notice anything wrong with it until it stopped backing up about two weeks ago. I never changed anything like computer names or the Airport settings. All I get is the following:
The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/Linda's Computer 1.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 22).
I tried resetting the Time Capsule and connecting with an ethernet cable, although the Ariport Utility says everything is working fine through WiFi.

If the light will not turn on the TC is dead. No matter that the hard disk is running.. it should only run at start up or when it is accessed not constantly.. that means the board in the TC has failed. Apple do not repair them.. They will replace it under warranty or applecare.
If you have gone over the 12month warranty it will still be covered if you have applecare on any computer or an Apple TV. In fact the cost of the apple TV plus apple care is still cheaper than buying a new TC.. so it is a route some people are taking.. certainly depends.. in some places like Europe or Australia now, there is a recognition that statutory warranty must be longer on a product that is premium to the market. 12months is not good enough. Apple will sometimes listen.
They might be fixable but I do not know how.

  • Time capsule error 111

    hey
im having a problem with my time capsule error 111
worked fine until last week and i heard it was an error with lion which i upgraded 6 months ago and worked fine until last week.
I've tried some of the things said on these discussion boards but until now nothing....any other suggestions??
    thanks in advance

I bought MacBook air last June 2011 with snow leopard os, then bought 3rd Gen time capsule 2tb. Tried to use it as backup but error 109 appeared. Then, I tried all tips in the net but nothing happened. I upgraded to lion os, tried to reinstall and back up again but error 111 appeared. Now my time capsule is just a router and one big paper weight. This apple product is an epic fail. It's really frustrating.

  • I can't connect to Time Capsule- error message: Backup disk is not available. Was working fine before.

I can't connect to Time Capsule- error message: Backup disk is not available. Was working fine before.

Restart it.. Does this all the time with Lion and even worse ML.
Restart the whole network if that doesn't work.. do it in correct order.. from off.. modem.. TC.. clients 2min gap.

  • Time Capsule Error:  Unable to complete backup...

For the past two days I've been getting the following Time Capsule Error message whenever it attempts to back up my system, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory." I can't get any more information about the error than that. If I reset my TC, will it lose all of my previous backups? Restarting my Mac didn't help. All other functions are fine, i.e. WiFi is good and I can still print to my printer hooked up to it. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem. If a b/u does kick off, it shuts down the Mac. I get the darkened screen with the window that says a reset is required.
Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Time Capsule Error Code 6584

What is Time Capsule Error Code 6584? What is the corrective action to clear it?

On the More Like This.. see the various very common complaints.. just to the right >>>
First one is good.. anything Pondini responds to listen. https://discussions.apple.com/message/17748380#17748380
A simple reboot of the whole network.. from off.. modem .. router/TC.. clients.. 2min gap will probably fix it.
If it keeps happening, tell us your OS. (Most likely Mountain Lion.. which has networking ability of wet string and a pair of tin cans).

  • Why does my time capsule error code -6584

    There are a few causes..
    Using the More Like This..
the top reference is helpful.. but you can see this is a regular problem.

Basically reboot the whole network.. restart in correct order.. modem.. router/TC...Clients.. 2min gap
Half the time will fix it.
It can also be the backup is corrupt and needs repair.
Are you aware of the supplement to 10.7.5 to fix TM??
This is not related to your problem,, rather it is slow backups.

  • Time Capsule error when interrupting a regular hourly backup

Okay... So it's supposedly common knowledge that if you interrupt an hourly Time Capsule backup (not the big initial one) by putting your Macbook to sleep, the next time you wake your computer up Time Machine is supposed to just pick up where it left off. Right?
Not for me. I got Time Capsule right when it was released and it worked like a charm for a whole entire month... Until one day I made the mistake of interrupting one of its backups. When I got back to my computer I got an error saying the backup could not be completed. I thought it was no big deal until I actually tried to start a backup again. First it stayed on "Preparing" for a long time... Then a similar error message. I tried again and again and got nothing but error messages. Nothing I tried worked.
I decided to erase the Time Capsule disk and start over, essentially losing a month's worth of backups. Once again it worked for a few days until once again I put my Mac to sleep while it was doing a regular backup. Once again, coming back to my computer resulted in an error message. Once again it couldn't recover no matter what I did. I decided to try again from scratch, erased the drive, did the big backup.
Today, after three days of it working just fine, I had to leave my house in the middle of a backup. I paused for a moment wondering if I should do it, but then thought, what the ****, you're SUPPOSED to be able to interrupt it.
Um, no. Error message again. Except today I decided to run Disk Utility on it, which did work in reviving its backup abilities... HOWEVER something very strange happened. Spotlight started indexing the backup disk image-- something I'm pretty sure is not supposed to happen. It insisted on doing this every time I mounted the disk image, and only when it was finished indexing would it agree to dismount itself after backing up (like it's supposed to). Aside from that, Time Machine no longer asks for my password when I choose the Time Capsule disk... It just chooses it. It also doesn't alert me when I delete a file stored inside the Time Capsule disk (to tell me it will be permanently deleted) but instead sends it to the trash. And when recovering a file from Time Machine, the disk image doesn't dismount itself once it's done-- I have to do it manually.
In short, it's not acting normal, as far as I can tell.
    So my question is twofold:
    1) why the **** can't I interrupt the backup without getting an error? It's not supposed to work this way. Does this work for anyone else?
    2) What the **** happened to the disk image now that I've got it to work again? It backs up fine and everything but it's acting weird.
Thanks... Hope someone has any clue what this all means!

I have a very similar issue. Spotlight is now indexing the backup volume on Time Capsule, and it is taking forever.
Nobody else using Time Machine / Time Capsule here? I can't believe that.

  • Time Machine / Time Capsule Error: Backup disk image could not be mounted

So I'm trying to back up to time machine, which used to be working fine, but I have this problem happening on two computers now (which probably means the error is in my Time Capsule.)
The Time Capsule shows up on my "shared" list in my finder windows.
I can connect to it, and open the folder inside, and SEE my two disk image files in there.
But Time Machine gives me a "The Backup Disk Image Could Not Be Mounted" error. No other information.
If I double-click on the disk image file directly, I get an error "The Following disk images failed to mount" and then it lists the file and says "Resource temporarily unavailable."
    Help, please.

I'm caught in the same loop, with no end in sight. I've only been using Time Machine and Time Capsule for 2 months. This week it stopped working. First error message:
"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."
Checking the Time Machine preferences, "Last backup" would read "backup failed"
When I got this error, all the wireless functions went offline, even thought the TC light was still green.
I would shut down, shut down the Time Capsule, shut off my modem reboot everything in order.
    Next error message:
"Disk repair. The disk 'Backup of [my computer]' was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must backup your data and reformat the drive."
Then: "Time Machine Error: The backup volume is read only. To select a different volume ... Time Machine preferences ... "
I spoke to someone at Apple, who sent me the Time Machine Troubleshooting page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3275?viewlocale=en_US
    I went through:
    1. updated my system software
    2. updated the TC firmware to 7.4.1
    3. dragged the sparsebundle to DiskUtility. It took a while (more than an hour?) but said the disk could not be repaired. When I tried again, the repair function wouldn't run.
    4. tried to delete the sparsebundle, but it would choke at almost the end, sometimes it would just crash the finder, sometimes say "Sorry, an unexpected error occurred," sometimes "Operation cannot be completed because the item 'bands' is in use." I even tried to Stuff the bundle with 'delete original' checked, but the stuffing, after about 15 hours, jammed near the end (stuffed 20 gigs of 35 gigs).
    5. tried to reselect the TC, and run backup anyways ... now it can't find the volume, back to the error messages and crashing Finder
    6. checked password in Keychain, all ok.
    Now what??
Do I use Airport Utility to erase it? At least TC is still showing up there. Or press the rest button on the back of the Time Capsule to reset to factory defaults?
I've resigned myself to losing my backups. Now I would just like to get it up and running again.
    In hopes,
    Linda

  • Time Capsule Error - Disk not Avalable

Just got a new 1TB Dual band Time Capsule. Wireless works, can see the disk on the time capsule, and use Time Machine to select the disk to use for backup. Thing is, when I enter the password and click ok, the fields like "Available, Oldest backup, etc., fill in, then go blank. When it try to back up it errors out. Then the icon in the menu bar shows an triangle with and exclamation point in it. Any ideas how to fix it?

    Figured it out.
It seems as though you have to tell the time machine which user accounts have access to the time capsule. Specify the account name, as listed in your user accounts, with password. If you do this it will allow the time capsule to work.

  • Time Capsule, error 67

    Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue with the Time Capsule I use in my office to share files between an iMac, a MacBook, my PC Windows Vista and another PC.
For a few days, when I try to login on the Time Capsule hard drive, I just got an error message (in French, please apologize for my translation) :
"User unknown, wrong password or opening session is disabled. [etc.] (67)."
I've used the Airport manager to check the configuration, everything is ok, the password is correct, both the Macs and the other Vista PC connect without problem.
There is probably nothing to do with this, but the problem appeared the same day I installed my brand new Adobe CS4 package (Web Premium licence).
It's a big problem for me, since all this is in my office, and I can't share files anymore with my associates...
I would appreciate any help, thanks for your support,
    Nicolas.

Having the same problem in my Bootcamp partition running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I've removed the spaces in the time capsules's name and removed the hyphens in the network name as well. Never had a problem with them on our Macs, but can't get connected in Bootcamp. Just gives me the same error 67 message quoted above. The Time Capsule firmware is up to date as is the Airport Utility. I can connect fine using the Airport Utility as a matter of fact. I made the changes noted above in Windows using that utility. Still works great from all Mac machines using the new settings, just not in this new Bootcamp partition.

  • Time Capsule Error 51

    Hi everyone,
I have i time capsule of 500GB, it is plugged in a USB 2.0 Hub an than in a 1TB disk.
When I tried to copy my files to the 1TB disk, it gives me error 51.
does anyone have got this problem?
PS: My time capsule is very hot on those days, so i tried to measure the temperature with on of those clocks with thermometer and it gives me 48º Ceusius, can it be the problem? except this everything is working fine on my time capsule. I´m using FAT32 format in my disks.
    Thanks for helping

Complex issue requiring a complex "fix"
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Count to ten
Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again

  • Time Capsule Error "Can not mount"

I have been using time capsule with the 1TB router for months. After the recent updates, when time capsule runs I get the error "can not be mounted". I have turned off the router and restart the laptop without success. Anyone have similar problems and anyone have a solution for a novice?
    thanks

I'm having the same issue of an "Unmountable Drive" issue with my Time Capsule. I did find this from GDMACK in another thread:
"Solved the problem by making the name of the time capsule hard drive "TIMECAPSULE" with no special characters or spaces."
I don't know if it will help our issue but it's worth a shot.

  • Time capsule 'error occurred reading settings'

I was trying to configure 'back to my Mac' when I lost my Time Capsule. Have now got most systems OK and the Airport Utility window shows that I am connected to the internet; however it states 'no base stations found, searching'; on 'other wi-fi devices' it shows my time capsule but when I click on it a window starts up with 'reading settings' then after a while another window shows ' error occurred while reading the configurations.'  The only button I have to press is 'OK' then nothing happens and it leaves the light on the time capsule flashing yellow.  What now? Appreciate any help.

Redo the setup of the TC in full isolation from the network.
Ethernet to a computer and lan port on the TC. turn wireless off on the computer and nothing else in the TC.
Do factory reset and start again.
For BTMM to work it has to be main router in the network.. this can be difficult if you have a modem router that cannot be bridged. Tell us exactly what equipment you have.. modem and routers.
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.
