Strange touchpad issues

Hello, I'm a relatively accustomed Arch user returning after a laptop replacement.
Nearly everything works perfectly, except for the fact that the two mouse buttons below the touchpad don't work, even though the touchpad itself is fully functional, xinput detects the devics as having two physical buttons and the mouse buttons above the touchpad work (for the TrackPoint). I've tried everything and still no success; this is just a replacement unit of a laptop I owned that also ran Arch, and the mouse buttons on that machine worked perfectly fine, which I find very odd.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm probably missing something, Synaptics' configuration options are a little cryptic.

do you have the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf created? If you do, post the contents.

  • Strange touchpad issue

All right, this is a bit weird. Occassionally, when I reboot, something causes my touchpad to rapidly jump around the screen whenever I put two fingers on it. However, this only happens when rebooting from Windows 7. Completely turning off the power solves the problem. Is there any way to prevent this from happening, so I can reboot normally from Windows?
Edit: I tried rebooting from Windows directly into an Ubuntu live CD. The problem persists.

hi, I had similar problem like you, but I think is the TouchPad is too sensitive.
My laptop is Thinkapd T61P,  after I enter the X, the Touchpad move very fast and difficult to control, and sometimes even my finger is close to the Touchpad but not touching it, the mouse will start to trembling, but this never happened under windows, but also moving too fast under the DOS, so I believe is the driver configuration of the TouchPad
But I am new to the Linux , so also don't know how to fix the problem, sorry, hehe

  • Strange performance issue with 3510/3511 SAM-FS disk cache

    Hi there!
I'm running a small SAM-QFS environment and have some strange performance issue on the disk storage part, which somebody here might be able to explain.
Configuration: one 3510, dual controller, RAID-5 9+1, one hot spare and one disk not configured for whatever reason. The R5 logical drive hosts a 150GB LUN for SAM-QFS metadata (mm in SAM-FS speak) and a 1TB LUN for data (mr in SAM-FS speak). Further, there are two small LUNs (2GB, 100GB) for some other purpose. Those two LUNs have nearly no I/O. All disks are SUN146G. Host connection is 2GBit, multipathing enabled and working.
Then the disk cache became too small, and the customer added a 3511 expansion unit with SUN300G disks. One logical drive is a RAID-1, 1+1, used for NetBackup catalog. The other is a RAID-5, 8+1, providing two LUNs: 260GB SAM-FS metadata (mm) and 1.999TB SAM-FS data (mr).
For SAM-FS, the LUNs form two file systems: one "residing" in the 3510, the other "residing" in the 3511 expansion. Cabling is according to the manual and checked several times by several independant people. Operating system is Solaris 10, hardware is a V880.
The problem we observe: SAM-FS I/O on LUNs on disks inside the 3510 is fine. With iostat, I see 100MB/s read and 50MB/s write at the same time. On the SAM-FS file system which is running on the two LUNs in the 3511, the limit seems to be at 40MB/s read/write. Both SAM-FS file systems are configured the same in regards of block size.
In case I have activity on both SAM-FS file systems, I see 100MB/s+ on the LUN running inside the controller shelf and another 40MB/s on the disk runnin in the 3511 expansion chassis. So, the controller is easily capable of handling 150MB/s.
Cache settings in the 3510 controller are default I think (wasn't installed by me), batteries are fine.
Is this 40MB/s we experience a limitation by the expansion shelf? Don't think so. Anybody has any ideas on this? What parameters to check or to change? Any hint appreciated. I can also provide further details if needed. Thank you.
    wolfgang

SUN300G disks sound like 300GB FC disks.
Depending on how many files are in the SAMFS file system, sharing the mm and mr devices on the same RAID array can be a pretty horrible idea. In my opinion and experience, it's almost always better to NEVER put more than one LUN on a RAID array. Period. Putting more than one LUN on an array results in IO contention on that array. And large, unnaturally configured (9+1? Why?) RAID arrays will have problems from the start.
What are the block sizes used on the RAID arrays? It wouldn't surprise me to see that the RAID array on the expansion tray has a very large block size. Larger block sizes are, in general, not better. Especially for SAMFS metadata - which IIRC is something like 8k or 16k blocks.
I suspect what is happening is most of the metadata updates are going to the mm device on the new array, contending with the IO operations on the file data.
How much space is left on each mm device? What does "iostat -sndxz 2" show when you're having the IO problems?

  • Split x2 - Touchpad issue after upgrading to Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I bought this Split x 2 a week ago and it came with WIndows 8. Everything was working fine until I upgraded to WIndows 8.1. Now my Touchpad will freeze some times and I have to log out and log back in to my profile to unfreeze the touchpad other times I can get it to unfreeze by resetting the release touch screen buttom.
I called HP customer service and they said it was a Microsoft issue and transfer me to them. Microsoft said it was a hardware (HP) Issue and that i needed to go back to the store where I bought it
(BestBuy). I took it back yesterday to BestBuy and they gave me a knew one. I did the same thing and upgraded to Windows 8.1 and touchpad issues is back. So pretty sure is not a hardware issue.
    All windows updates are completed
I checked the Touchpad's Driver and it is up to date.
NOTE: I plugged a wireless mouse to my laptop and when the touchpad freezes the wireless mouse still works.
Does anyone know a fix for this issue? Everything else works great on the laptop is just very inconvenient when you are working and you have to log out to get your touchpat to work again.
Any help would be appreaciate it.

Well you gave me a great idea.  So the same thing happened to me, the install failed due to the driver signature.  I uninstalled the current driver, then turned off the feature that requires signed drivers and installed the driver.  Everything is working so far.... the only odd thing is it doesn't show the driver any where.  I am going to try a few other things BUT the mouse hasn't stopped working for a good half hour.

  • Strange import issue .. no longer works in 2.6 or Beta 3

    Strange import issue.
I use LR-2.6 everyday but have only played around with the LR-3 for a limited amount of time so the other day I decided check it out and tried to import a handful of RAW(canon) files on a SDxc-8g card via a USB card reader. I set it up to copy and convert to DNG, apply a few keywords and Metadata but when I tried it acted like it imported the first image and then froze. Card reader lights stopped blinking and just stayed on, program task bar doesn’t show any progress, not even for the first image. I then went to the folder that I was going to have the images copies to and it contained a file of the first image, but there is no indication that LR-3 even created it and it doesn’t show up in the catalog. When I tried to close out LR-3 is popped up the “in the middle of a task warning” so I just closed the program and tried it a couple more times to no avail.
So I though o well I will just open up LR-2.6 and import them from there, guess what now LR-2.6 does the exact same thing!!
I thought maybe my card reader was a POS but I was able to drag all the files to a new folder on my desktop and import them from there, nope. Tried rebooting a couple times, even opened a new catalog to test with, in both LR-2.6 and LR-3 and neither will work..
    I am stumped any ideas?

    Thank you for everyone's assistance
I actually figured out what the problem was, like most issues it comes back to operator error, it seem I had inadvertently chose a "rename file on import" template that I had set up to name the files based on a custom fill-in field in the Meta Data, I normally only used that template when I was exporting images that had been completely edited, so being these images were new imports that field was blank, hence it would import the first image and then do to " don't import subjected duplicates" being checked it would just stop the import process.

  • Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

I've a Satellite P300-1AN notebook and since the beginning (two weeks)
I have a touchpad issue: it is not immediately responsive and the pointer trembles when touching the pad. Very often it freezes for just one or two seconds.
This is VERY annoying. A USB mouse works perfectly.
I tried reinstalling ALPS drivers, tried Synaptics ones, tried just Windows Vista drivers: no way.
Now I have found the reason: this issue is present only when the notebook is powered by AC adapter.
With battery the touchpad is perfect.
I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore!
Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?
Has anyone had this same issue?

    > I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore! Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?
The point is that your notebook should be always checked using the Toshiba factory configuration.
Why? Because the ASP wants to be sure that this issue is not related to a software problem (compatibility issue with 3rd party applications). The software issues are not covered by warranty.
Furthermore the ASP will always recover the notebook before checking any hardware parts for a malfunction. Therefore you should always backup your data from the HDD before you will send the notebook for checking.
I would recommend to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recover disk and then check if the issue would appears.
If yes then you can contact the ASP again and could provide all details which are necessary for an technician.
    Bye

  • Strange Catalog Issue or bug. Help, photos disappeared help?

My images disappeared in the catalog. They are not missing, they are just not visable. I think there is a bug in the Fliter section.
Let me explain. I have one Main folder with 5 Sub folders. All those folders contain random amounts of images. (i.e. the path would be...  Photo/2010/BeachShoot, or Photo/2008/PartyPics... etc).
I imported 5 years of images, hence 5 Sub Folders. I was randomly flagging images to be rejected with the 'x' key. Basically routine maintenance... flag so many, then call up only the rejected photos in the grid view, select all, then delete. Remove the Flag Filter... repeat process over and over...   Basic, simple work...
Now... doing the exact some thing.. I removed all Flag filters and my images are no longer appearing in the catalog. I tested, by turning on flags, off flags.. etc. The images did not accidentally get deleted. I checked my hard drive location. Images are there. I rebooted the machine, I opened up another catalog, to trick it back... did not work. I tried to re-import the images.. but it says they are already in the catalog.
Strange part: On the Left Sidebar window, under Catalog "All Photographs" it shows the correct number of photos in the catalog. However... the strange part... Under "Folders" in the Left Sidebar beneath Catalogs my Main Folder shows "Zero" number of images. But, if I click on a sub root folder where the images reside, they number changes from Zero to the correct number of images and my images reappear on the screen as normal..
The work around... click on every subfolder...
    The solution... Unsure? Help!

  • Strange Printing Issue With New HP & Pages

    Hello!
I have a very strange printing issue with a new HP printer. I have written pages documents heavy in Texts which are located within tables. The documents print fine on a Cannon and Epson printer and look great but when I print the document on my new HP Laserjet Pro 400 Colour M451nw some of the text on some rows come out of the printer looking like they are bold / slightly fuzzy. This only happens with some of the rows of text, not all of them. The font is the same in every row with the same format.
You can see this in the attached image. The first line (Thanks very much) has printed correctly but the subsequent lines look bold / slightly fuzzy.
After a lot of testing the only way I can resolve this is if I copy the content into a new pages document and only then it will print and look ok with the HP printer.
This must be a problem within my origional document. I would simply copy and paste everything into a new document however this would take a very, very long time (over 5 years of work producing teaching materials and over 100 documents and thousands of tables and formatting that cannot be copied and pasted).
Also, on other printers you can see the lines seperating each row of the table. These lines are not visible on the HP print outs, even when the table is copied into a new document.
Has anyone come accross an issue like this before? Is there a way I can fix this without creating a new document? Do I need to get a new another new printer (the 4th printer this week!)?
Any advise, wise words would be greatly apprechiated!
    Thanks!

Sorry, Fruhulda. After 4 hours on the phone with Apple care they are taking this issue further themselves. It seems to be a problem with our pages document and the compatibility with certain drivers. We have still not gotton to the bottom of it and Apple are going to get back to me when they have an answer.
We also worked out that the issue only happens when you print via Ethrenet & USB. Printing via Wifi is ok and there are no quality issues.
    Very Strange!

  • Hmph. (Jumpy) Touchpad issues and Suspend idiosyncrasies.

(I'll try not to turn this into a novel, but I guess when I have a problem it just happens that I naturally try to describe everything that goes on for full disclosure.  Bear with me.)
I just got a hold of an older laptop, a Dell Latitude C640, and to my dismay setting up Linux on it hasn't been the walk in the park I'd hoped it'd be.  I read a bunch of articles about Linux on this machine before I got it and most seemed to have a pretty easy time of everything.  Of course this might be because the laptop is quite a few years old and older Linux kernels acted different ways, but I guess I assumed that things would be even easier using a modern distro.
    The Touchpad
It worked fine on the install of Windows XP that came installed on it, with no problems at all.  Before installing any flavor of Linux I ran Knoppix on it just kind of to make sure things would go OK.  It was a little dated, being Knoppix 5.10, but I figured it'd do for my purposes.
The first time I booted it seemed to work OK, with the mouse cursor behaving mostly as it should, with a little lag.  I've used this same Knoppix disk on another laptop and it did much the same thing.  After another boot, however, I saw that things weren't going to be so easy.  The cursor immediately drifted off into one of the screen's corners (it didn't seem to care much which one it was in, as long as it was in one) and would refuse to come out.  I could move the cursor a little ways off of the edge of the screen, but not far enough to click anything, and it would immediately go back as soon as I released my finger.  So I tried a few other disks.  First I tried a CD I have for Crunchbang Linux (just a minimalist, Openbox-based Ubuntu flavor), and then Knoppix 4.  Both gave very similar results.  Crunchbang let me have a little bit more control over the cursor for a little while after booting, maybe for about a minute, and then the same behavior cropped up.  I only booted with Knoppix 4 once, but it was pretty much the same deal.
I started reading up on what might be going on and came across a thread on the Linux Mint forums that seemed to be describing an issue very close to mine (though mine is completely unrelated to the AC adapter and persists whether it's plugged in or not).  Someone in the thread suggested it was a kernel issue, since it's definitely not a hardware issue, so I then booted into a copy of DSL I had lying around, which uses the 2.4 kernel.  Sure enough everything worked without problems.  This caused me to believe, going by some of the conclusions from the Lnux Mint thread and apparently mistakenly, that the issue may have been with the 2.6 Debian kernels, so I figured I'd just get Arch installed and see how things went.
After getting X set up and working properly I saw that the issue was going to be much the same.  To get around the cursor being dragged into the corner against my will I found out that if I ran without HAL or that if I disabled hot-plugging I could use the touchpad, although not flawlessly.  Here's xorg.conf:

The "AutoAddDevice" option is the only thing that seems to make any difference in usability at all; without it I can't use the touchpad at all, and with it I can, but to varying degrees.  I've found that right after I boot up everything seems to work exactly how it's supposed to, but shortly after, sometimes 15 seconds, sometimes many minutes, things seem to get kind of unresponsive.  The cursor will go where I want it to go, but it jumps around and does it very slowly.  The mouse buttons also get very unresponsive.  Right click is especially bad, and I often have to hold down the button just to get it to do what I want, but left click is very bad too, requiring me to push the button down for almost a full second, sometimes several times.  Taps on the pad, after things go wrong, also stop being recognized, forcing me to use the buttons (which I'm OK with).  It's usable, but the behavior is not ideal whatsoever—it's rather annoying.
The most aggravating thing, I think, is that I can't seem to find anyone else using this same model that has this issue.  The latest I've seen is from January: An Ubuntu (8.10) user reports no issues and is very pleased (see comments at the bottom of the page).
Suspend (both to disk and RAM)
I actually did install the latest Crunchbang (9.04.01, the 32-bit "Lite" edition) first to see if anything would clear up by installing it rather than running the live CD, but I only had it installed for a few hours.  I didn't really get into messing with xorg.conf that much yet, only really touching "FingerLow" and "FingerHigh" settings, so the touchpad issue was still nagging me.  I did play around a bit though and found out that suspend to RAM and suspend to disk worked pretty much from the go, only requiring that I installed uswsusp.  Issuing a simple "sudo pm-suspend" or "sudo pm-hiberate" put the computer to sleep and it woke back up without any issue at all.
But suspend on Arch is proving to be a pain in the neck.  Suspend to RAM simply will not work; the computer shuts down but will not resume, leaving me only a blank screen with an unresponsive keyboard.  Suspend to disk works (using hibernate-script as pm-hibernate doesn't seem to do anything at all), but it works very poorly; both suspending and resuming take a very, very long time—so long, in fact, that I'm just better off shutting down and restarting normally, since the boot time is better.  I don't know what accounts for the drastic difference in distros, and this isn't the first experience I've had with suspension working on Ubuntu but not on Arch.  What is different in the Ubuntu implementation of pm-utils than the Arch way?  Is it the Ubuntu kernel?  Is there any way to implement the Ubuntu way with Arch (because, after all, I'd prefer to use Arch)?
I'm considering installing Crunchbang once again if I can't get things to work the way I want them to in the next few days on Arch.  And, if I can't make the touchpad work in a satisfactory manner on Cruchbang, I might just have to reinstall Windows.  I don't want to do that.

At least for the moment I've given up and reinstalled Windows XP, but I'm still kind of looking for solutions.  Suspend and hibernate are things I find to be somewhat important, but secondary to the touchpad issues, so I'm focusing on those.
Out of curiosity today I test out pretty much every live CD I have in the house.  I found an old Ubuntu CD for 6.06 (Dapper) and had a little bit of luck with it.  By default pretty much every live CD configures Xorg to use an additional mouse that isn't present; to fix this I edited the "ServerLayout" section xorg.conf to only use the touchpad.  With this old Ubuntu CD, this achieved the desired result (mostly).  The touchpad worked how it ought to with no lag, but a few features were not implemented.
Ubuntu 6.06 used the 0.4.3 version of the synaptics driver; newer Linux distros usually use 0.99 and above.  I tried my Knoppix 5.1 CD again, editing xorg.conf again to reflect the absence of an external mouse, but I did not get the behavior I was hoping for.  When I checked I found out that Knoppix 5.1 came with the 0.14.6 version of the synaptics driver.
Turns out that 0.14.5 was something of a turning point for the driver.
Makefile support for Xorg 7.0 has been added.
Two-finger scrolling and pressure dependent motion
speed have been implemented. A new parameter has
been added to give greater control over tap
    behavior.
I suspect that the problem is coming from the addition of the "pressure dependent motion speed."  I don't know what options control this to toy with them.
However, I'm not so sure.  This sounds like it would be something that would toy with my mind, making me think I'm experiencing "mouse lag" when certain options are really just conflicting, but as I had to point out again on another forum on which I posted this same thread, when using Arch (and the most recent synaptics driver) things started out fine and only after a little while, sometimes less than a minute, sometimes many, would things start to act up.  Either some progress is being made to resolve this problem with the latest releases, or something is going wrong internally that I do not understand.  I just cannot understand why, with the newest drivers, it's only after some use that the problem kicks in while when using all others the problems are immediate.

  • Windows 8 and touchpad issues

I upgraded an old Toshiba L45-S7423 laptop from Windows XP to Windows 8 Pro recently via CD/DVD. A couple of days later, the touchpad stopped working, but a USB mouse works just fine. The touchpad issue might be related to a Windows update that occurred
about the same time. The laptop has been running Windows XP for several years without issues other than slow boot and shutdown. Of course, I know very little about Windows 8. Any ideas on how to proceed. Thanks!

    Hi,
It seems the issue is more related to the driver update from Microsoft site. I recommend performing System Restore first. Then, you may prevent installing the hardware driver updates from Microsoft right now.

  • [solved] Strange Audio Issue

I am experiencing a strange audio issue with my Intel-HDA ICH7:
    # lspci -v
00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 30a5

    Memory at d2400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
    Capabilities: <access>
when I installed Arch linux the first time a mounth ago on this computer, I had a sound problem that was solved in a very strange way.
Everything worked fine until a week or so (I believe from Alsa 1.0.12). Now sometimes sound works and sometimes it doesn't. For example sometime I boot the computer and have no sound, then I reboot it without doing anything, and then sound works.
I have tried messing with the modprobe.conf:
    # /etc/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
    # --- ALSACONF version 1.0.11 ---
    #alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    #alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
    #options snd-hda-intel model=F1734
    options snd-hda-intel model=z71v
    options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1
but it was useless. If I put back the modules in rc.conf everything is worse: sound doesn't work at all.
A diff between lsmod in a "working boot" and a "without sound boot" showed that the same modules where in kernel memory.
A diff between dmesg showed this difference:
    < hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to single_cmd mode...
was present in the not working boot. This line is absent in a working boot dmesg.
The only way to make the sound card working everytime is to remove the snd* modules load from the boot sequence and load the modules "by hand" after the login.
    Any ideas?
PS : If something is unclear due to my poor English please tell my and I'll try to explain it better.

Also, mine has no PCM listed, I need to use "front" as my PCM level... not to mention the UI is way off with 'tpb' (if you have a thinkpad)
Yes it's not an Arch Linux related problem: I had problems with Debian (Etch and Sid based distros like ubuntu) too (but there I had no modprobe issue on the init sequence. Maybe is a problem of shared IRQs, but I have to study the existing documentation as I am a newbie). The difference is that Arch is simple enought for me to try something like modprobing "by hand" in the init sequence. PCM seems to work, however the volume is very low and I have found no way to make the mic work. Under Mepis I was able to make it work only if I plugged it in windows xp and then reboot into Linux. But I can't try it with Arch as I have erased the windows partition...
I will try the new kernel, study the documentation and then report. Hoping this will be usefull to others too.

  • Very strange backlight issue

I have a 600mhz (16 VRAM) iBook that I'm trying to fix for a friend. It has a strange backlight issue. Everytime the ibook is started, it chimes, and shows the screen (bright and perfect), but as soon as 9.2 starts to load, the backlight goes out. It is not intermittent, it happens at the exact same time every time I start it up (right when the progress bar starts to move). I reset the PRAM, which caused the computer to now look for a startup device, so all the extra time it takes search, the backlight is fine. Here's what I've tried.
In firewire mode, the backlight never comes on
With a hardware test disc, the backlight never comes on
    Reset the PRAM (several times)
    Reset the PMU (several times)
    Any ideas out there?

As an update, I tried a Mac OS 10.4 startup disc which seemed to work, and the backlight came on with no problems. The machine did freeze on the welcome screen right after I selected english as the language of choice. So I tried a 10.3 disc which yeilds a kernal panic of "Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook 4,3". After this, I tried a 9.2.2 disc which boots (takes 20 mins to boot) and when I try to load the installer I receive a "this program can not run on this machine", and it closes. This really seems like a strange problem. Any ideas?

  • Strange audiobooks issue

I have a strange audiobook issue. For background, I'm running iTunes 7.1.1 on Windows Vista Business, and have a 30GB video iPod.
Ok. I bought the audiobook of "The Great Gatsby" from iTunes. It is in my iTunes as an audiobook, is checked to sync and everything. Also, when my iPod is plugged in, and you expand the little arrow over in the left hand (so you can see what's actually ON the iPod, as opposed to in iTunes) and click on the Audiobooks under the iPod, it shows up, all three parts of the book.
However, when I look on my actual iPod, scroll to Audiobooks on the device, it's not there. But it says it's there (over iTunes) when it's plugged in.
Another audiobook, one that has been on there forever, apparently syncs just fine.
    Anyone experience this?
(Please, for the love of Christ, don't anyone post on here and tell me that iTunes is not fully compatible with Vista. I know this. You know I know this.)

Ok, for anyone coming across this in the future.
I resolved this by changing up the way I was running the MovUser command a little bit.
Previously, I was using MoveUser with the -u option, it would migrate the mailboxes, as far as I could tell, successfully. Then I would update the mailhost ldap attribute myself.
I changed to using the -l option with an ldap url and -A to have MoveUser update ldap, and it seems to be working just fine.
Not sure why first command doesn't work though...

  • U150 touchpad issues

I have noticed the touchpad settings choppy at times.  Has anybody else seen this problem?

I too am having touchpad issues. It gets stuttering/sticky.  It seems to be mostly in the central part of the touchpad: in order to continue using it, I tend towards the outer edges (left and upper, to avoid scrolling).  But this is a frustrating way to navigate. It is also a little intermittent: happens more often than not, but sometimes seems to work fine.  I've wondered if it's related to the machine heating up, although it's not consistently better when cold either.
I called tech support, got forwarded from Georgia, US, to the Phillipines.  After reinstalling the driver, it continues to have the same problem. At that point they gave up and told me to send my machine in, taking over a week. I've had foreign tech reps default to "hardware problems" in the past, only to find out they are wrong and there is another way around the issue, without losing my computer for a time, having to password protect everything, etc.
I saw the post about using an older driver, for the S10.  A few questions: does the S10 driver support multi-touch functions?  Will I lose my touchpad functionality after the uninstall, and if so, how to navigate through the computer?
    Thanks for any help...

  • Really strange network issue that is specific to OS X 10.6.8

Really strange network issue that is specific to OS X 10.6.8 on both 2 iMacs and an older intel Mac Pro.
Any system running 10.6.8 is achieving on average 15 –20 mb a sec transfer rates regardless of drive speeds, cables, network activity etc.. I've spent some time removing any cable , drive speed, router issues to the point where one machine dual boots into both 10.6.8 and 10.6.5
The 10.6.5 system has network speeds of 60mb – 80mb p/sec transfer rates.
Our older 10.5.8 PPC mac gets 80mb and my 2011 Macbook Pro 10.7.2 hits 60mb – 80mb consistently as well.
Any idea what the cause is?
    Cheers

Since your other Mac running 10.5.8 is not affected, you know that your AirPort router is functioning correctly.
What changed on your Mac? This seems like a post for either the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard support area, or the support area for your model of Mac.
We normally handle questions about the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule in this area, but you can certainly wait to see if you receive a response here.
