Strange UIM Input Behavior

I have UIM installed for Japanese input, and the Japanese input works fine. I also run the uim toolbar (gtk version) and that runs fine as well.
Inside the "Global Settings" within the UIM preferences...I have my "Default input method" selected as "Direct" (because I type everything in English until I need to type in Japanese). My other input method is "Anthy" (for Japanese). And within my Global Settings, my "Input Method toggle key" is assigned as "control + shift". So ideally, when I press control+shift, I can switch from English to Japanese and visa vesa; but this is not always the case.
If my "Default input method" is selected as "Direct", then I can type in english normally when I open any program. But when i press my control+shift to switch to Japanese...it doesn't switch. I have to manually go to the toolbar with the mouse and select Anthy; and then it starts working fine. If I press control+shift again now...it will go back to "Direct" like it should. At this point I can now switch back and forth between the two input methods with control+shift. Every new window I open, the whole thing repeats; meaning I have to manually set the UIM toolbar to Anthy before I can use control+shift to switch between the two input methods.
Now, if I select "Anthy" as my Default input method within the Global settings, I don't have this problem. If I open any new window, I can swtich from "Anthy" and "Direct" just using control+shift without ever touching the UIM-toolbar (the toolbar is just there so I can see which input mode is currently selected). The problem is, since Anthy is now set as the Default input method, I have to always press control+shift everytime I open a new program to type in English. (Imagine opening your firefox typing in the URL you want to go to, but instead your typing in Japanese in the URL bar everytime because you foget to press control+shift everytime you open a new firefox )
These issues happen regardless of whether my "Effective Coverage" setting is set to "Whole Desktop" or "Focused Application Only"
Has anyone else experience these type of problems with UIM? Actually, SCIM works better when it comes to these issues, but i always had trouble with qt applications with SCIM so I prefer not to go there.
In /etc/profile I have:

export QT_IM_MODULE='uim'
uim-xim &
export XMODIFIERS=@im='uim'
And I generated the .immodules file.
The only other info I have is that during bootup I see a:

failed to open display!
I don't know what that means, or if it means anything. I not sure what is meant by failed to open display, but gdm boots up fine and login to my xfce fine.

okay this seems as a non-radio/podcast issue, something pretty strange happens with the whole iTunes. anyway, it's not a thing for this topic, i'm gonna try and solve this in a proper one...

Modifying the redirect page of an input behavior

I created a user input behavior for a user registration page.
I also added a check new username behavior. It all works well. The
problem isn't really a big problem because it all still works. But,
it would be nice if I could modify the code that Dreamweaver
generates and NOT get the red exclamation error next to the
behavior in the behaviors panel. That way I could still click on
the behavior and be able to edit it with the dialog box instead of
hand coding it.
Here is the deal. In the input behavior, I specified the
redirect page. The code written by Dreamweaver is:
MM_editRedirectUrl = "login_confirmation_send.asp"
Problem is, I want to pass a form value in the query string
to that redirected page. So, I modified that code to say:
MM_editRedirectUrl = "login_confirmation_send.asp?email="
& Request.Form("email")
When I do that, I get a big red exclaimation next to the
check new user behavior which says the input behavior has been
deleted. Eventhough, it still works fine.
Is there a way to modify the code without getting the
error?

That might do it. Does ASP have another concatenator besides
ampersand(&) like the plus sign(+) that you could use? Also,
I've totally forgotten if you need semicolons(;) at the end of
lines of ASP code.

Strange Navigation Bar Behavior

Hi, I'm currently designing a web page for non-profit
government organization.
Unfortunately, I'm running into some strange behavioral
problems with the navigation bar.
The tabs in my navigation bar run from left to right. As the
links are visited through the navigation bar, the links to the left
of which ever link is active stop working. I can't for the life of
me figure out why!
The pages are arranged in such a way that each page involves
three html files. One body file, one navigation bar file with it's
respective tab hilighted, and a little file that simply loads the
two, one on top of the other. The tabs in the navigation bar are
linked to the file that then loads the body and navigation(of
course). Clicking on a tab to the right of the active tab loads
everything perfectly. However, if the active tab is the right-most
tab, the tabs to the left no longer work properly. They seem to
reload the navigation bar, but the body gets left behind and the
URL still appears to be that of the right-most tab.

By going through the four tabs at the top, you can quickly
see things are going wrong.
The drop-down menu can be used to access the same pages that
the navigation bar refuses to load.
If you could please take a look at the site and reply with
any comments or suggestions as to what might be going wrong or what
I could do to fix it, I would be very grateful.
Note that I previously read something about strange
navigation bar behavior being caused by image names beginning with
numbers. This isn't what's happening here as my image names are all
"image 1" etc.

Well thanks for the suggestion, but that's not actually the
problem I'm having.
The newsletter link along with all that other stuff on the
left hand side is just stuff I havn't gotten to yet.
The problem I'm having is with the navigation tabs at the TOP
of the page(policies, forms, info and M.R.)! I know the links for
those tabs are correct, because I can see from hovering over the
tabs that they're pointing in the right direction, and if it's the
policies page(leftmost tab at the top) I'm on, all the tabs to the
right work perfectly. The problem is that when I'm on any other
page (such as the M.R. page which is the rightmost tab), all the
tabs to the left of it mysteriously stop working!
As I said, just quickly click back and forth through the four
tabs at the top of the page and you'll see what the problem is. In
fact, completely ignore everything that isn't those four tabs at
the top of the page, because everything else is unfinished.

Strange Mac OS X Input behavior

All of a sudden I've been having some erratic input behaviour on my Macbook.
I noticed it first the other day when trying to type in "http://www.google.com" in Safari. i seemed to type it in fine, but upon pressing enter it changed the URL instantaneously to be intersperesed with %'letter'. I believe I saw mostly %f, but I can't recall offhand.
Now today, both in Safari and in a chat in IChat, when I first start typing in the text boxes, it starts typing "=====================" or some such string of equal signs with random Ms or +s. It stop after a while, and sometimes comes back when I resume typing. I simply don't know what's going on. Currently i have Safari, iTunes and World of Warcraft open.. and it seems to happen more when I switch from one program to another. Typing just seems rather inconsistant, and I'm not sure whether it's my imagination or not, but these random strings definately aren't part of my imagination.

i had a similar problem once, after upgrading to 9.0.4.2.580 it disappeared (maybe you have to delete the files => home:Documents:Oracle CalendarUserData)

Strange Gradient Stroke Behavior on Some Path Corners

Hello All,
I'm a Photoshop user who has recently started learning Illustrator for a project. I am experiencing a strange behavior where some of the corners of a path with a gradient stroke overlap. In some of the corners, the stroke does not bend cleanly but leaves a strange artifact on the path (the stroke acts normally on the rest of the path including similarly angled corners). I am including pictures to illustrate what I mean.
The stroke I am using has a linear gradient applied across it. The stroke starts with a solid color (black) with a hard edge against a gradient from green to transparent. Sometimes the artifact is on the transparent side of the stroke (first image), but sometimes it's on the hard edge side (2nd image - this is actually the same corner with the anchors manipulated). In the third image, you can see the issue on both the "transparent" edge (though as you can see in this image, it isn't actually transparent in places where the stroke overlaps itself) and the solid edge.
I've done a lot of digging to try to find similar issues and tried many solutions - toggled snap to grid for the object, looked into miter limits, caps, and corners (I am using rounded corners), checked for stray anchors, changed points from corner to rounded, etc. Any advice is appreciated!

But you can get that effect by layering several stroke attributes in the Appearance Panel. For example, make the black on a different stroke layer, where you can control it separately from the green (ok, I'm color blind).

Safari 5.1 strange auto-reloading behavior for tabs in the background

hi guys.
I have been encountering this strange behavior recently. I had thought it could be something wrong with my system, until yesterday i upgraded my Safari for Windows to the v.5.1 on a Windows XP laptop, and found the same issue. Now i guess I can be quite certain this is a safari issue.
System info:
1. Macbook Pro 17", OSX 10.6.8, 64bit boot (i have 8GB RAM).
2. Safari (Mac) is the lastest version (as updated by the Auto update), run in the default 64bit mode.
3. The windows machine is an old Thinkpad T60 with Windows XP Pro SP3. The Safari for windows is Safari 5.1 (7534.50), also updated by auto update.
4. I have not installed any Safari extensions/plugs that feature an auto-reloading -- as such behavior was never seen before i upgrade to Safari 5.1
Since i mostly work on mac the mac has been kept most updated. But the windows machine which i use now and then, i don't update everything very frequently. And the earlier Safari 5.0 worked fine without the current issue.
Symptoms
1. Let's say I have 1 Safari window open with 5 tabs, and I have been working on the 4th tab for a while, and left the other 4 tabs "idling" in the background.
2. And then i want to switch to another tab: click on that tab, and that tab will come to the foreground while being automatically refreshed.
3. It looks to me this behavior happens after the inactive tabs have been idling longer than a certain period of time - then if you switch to them, they will be switched to and in the same time auto-reloaded. But I still don't know how long it needs for the "idling" before an auto-reloading "threshold" is triggered.
4. In the beginning this was just on the Mac Safari (and i hadn't updated safari on the windows). But after I updated safari for WIN yesterday, i found the same behavior today.
5. I checked all the Preferences settings and didnt find any option that indicates this behaviors.
Guys. any ideas? anyone have the same trouble? Thanks a lot guys. This is really annoying.

The weird thing is... after i tried to uninstall and re-install a few apps the "auto-loading" behavior disappeared ... guess something was interfereing with safari 5.1...

Very strange FF3/Opera behavior

Hi there,
I'm running XFCE & Compiz Fusion and encountered a very strange behavior when visiting a certain website with Firefox3. The website is http://www.cyberpunk-terminal.de/. Whenever I visit that site my whole Firefox gets transparent. When I switch to a different tab or close the tab, it's back to normal. It seems to have something to do with Compiz, since I can set the transparency of FF to 0 via Compiz-shortcuts.
Does anybody else have the same experience?
Edit: Same thing happens with Opera.

Strange alpha channel behavior in jscroll pane

Hi,
My first post here.
I have been strugling for a while with a problem with alpha channel opacity and scrollpane. I basically have a JScrollpane that contains a JPanel with JLabels. The JLabels have a mouse action that changes their background to higlighted by using a color with an alpha channel.
When a mouse is over a JLabel we call:

This works but with some strange rendering problems. Sometimes the "background" shows other parts of the screen insted of the correct background. This is kind of hard to explain so I took a screen shot that elaborates this.

I think there seems to some abuse of the 'opaque' setting in Java. Opaque, literally, of course, describes something through which nothing can be seen (if you can see through it, it's either translucent or transparent). That means alpha 0 is transparent, alpha 255 (for an 8-bit channel) is opaque, and anything else is translucent.
ComponentUI uses 'opaque' to determine whether to paint the component background. This is where the semantics are broken: it should really query the background color to see if it's non-null and its alpha is non-zero, thus painting translucent colors as well as opaque. I think there is a good case for this being a Java bug if it's not already - though I'd anticipate the counter-argument being that it will raise issues with backward-compatibility ("if it's been broken long enough, don't fix it").
The problem you're seeing, I suspect, is due to the same flag being used (semantically correctly) to help optimise the paint process (if something really is opaque then there's no point rendering underneath it).
Unfortunately, fixing ComponentUI is a non starter since it can only be fixed by extension (multiply the number of components by the number of L&Fs and you're on your way).
As a workaround you can extend JLabel and override paintComponent(); or plug in a specific label UI which fixed the ComponentUI problem; in both cases leaving the opaque setting at false.

Strange sent box behavior

Strange behavior I hope someone can help diagnose: After sending an email with an attachment, it will appear as though no attachment is present (looking down the attachment column in the sent box). After opening up the email, the attachment icon appears as it should. Is there any way to remedy this behavior without opening every single sent email by hand?

First try using Rebuild on the Sent mailbox -- if more than one account, then you must reveal the separate Sent mailboxes for each account, before Rebuild will be functional. Click on Mailbox in the menubar, and choose Rebuild while the Sent mailbox is open.

Hi Chandra,
unfortunately I can't stop the whole database just because of this "little" problem. And don't even know if it really helps. Now I'm installing the same SW on VMWare server. Hope, that it will help me reproduce this problem and then I can try this patch.

Strange measurement input fields behaviour

Hello,
I have a Czech version of Illustrator CC on Windows 7 Pro.
Some measurement input fields are not working as expected, for example:
When creating a new document:
Decimal marks in document dimensions have disappeared (instead 210.00 mm it shows 210 00 mm). It also disappears after I add it. Another strange thing is when I click in the input box, do nothing and click out the value changes to 5779 55 mm
(Something similar is happening in my InDesign: I can't change an object's dimension expressed with a number with a decimal mark to another number with a decimal mark - only to an integer. I'm not working in Web mode.)
Is this behaviour controlled by some settings I can't find or is this a bug?

The decimal point is basically governed by your Regional/Language settings, in the Control Panel I believe.
There may be some issues between . and , for decimal point (and reversely for thousands).
But, especially if the behaviour has not always been there, you may try the list below.

The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Strange select statement behavior in start routine during extraction

Hi, All..
I'm receiving some odd behavior from a select statment being processed in batch mode (specifically, when run in a normal BW extractor - start routine), the select yields no results .. sy-subrc = 4 and target itab is empty. however, when i run this same select statement in debug, i get sy-subrc = 0 and records are returned!! I tried putting the select statement in a standard abap program & it came back successfully in both foreground & background. something is strange when run in the BW extractor process?? anyone familiar with this?? any help is appreciated!! Strange 'Top Window' behavior in L8

I've noticed this one for a while - curious if it's a common 'bug'.
When L8 is open and I switch to another app, like Safari for example, sometimes one or two of Logic's plugin windows will remain 'on top' of my display. I have to go back and switch screen sets to clear it.
Also, if I'm in another app and I click on one of Logic's windows (plugin window, or environment mixer for example), it does NOT activate Logic as the 'active' application. Even though I can move faders in the mixer, for example, my top screen menu still shows Safari as the 'active' application. Again, I have to use the command-tab App Switcher to get Logic Pro as the active app.
Anyone else experience this? It's pretty much a 'full time' behavior on my system.

Yup - same here. Switching applications seems to confuse Logic which I don't recall in LP7. I switch often to Audacity, Amadeus or stand-alone Melodyne, and I also see the "Logic not active' behavior with the mixer being active.
The windows behavior in general seems strange .v. LP7 generally, and the entire window handling, and focus not shifting when windows are changed within 8 is different; probably related. I seem to be clicking around more to get to where I need to be. I use dual monitors and separated windows and screen sets.

Strange type ahead behavior when

This is hard to explain but when I'm typing in any of the input fields while creating a new email or replying to one, my text is automatically hi-light while I'm typing or when I pause. For example if I'm typing the words "check this out" when I type "check" it hi-lights "check" (like you're selecting text) then when I hit the space bar that text is whipped out because to was hi-lighted/selected.
This only seems to happen in mail in the input fields, not in the text body.
Any ideas?

Do you see the same behavior in the address fields on the one hand and the subject field on the other when you are typing?
If the address gets completed automatically while you are typing in any address field then it is normal if you have the option checked in mail>preferences>composing.
As for the subject field, that is bizarre. Do you happen to have plug ins or input managers installed with Mail - such as grammar check, spell check... these would be located in home folder/library mail and in home folder/library/inputmanagers. Some of these utilities have been known to cause issues in Mail, but I am not sure if that is the case with you as I may not fully understand what is going on

Strange, Neverending Render Behavior in PProCS6

Hi all,
I've been experiencing some strange rednering behavior. It started in a large PPro project that was experiencing another frequent issue, source monitor freezing, but the has carried over to a new, basic project recently started.
Whether I select 'Render Effects' or 'Render Entire' I get the same result. The render begins and seems to proceed as normal, but if I watch closely, the percent complete starts to bounce back and forth, even boucning between tenths and hundreths of a point. The total number of previews beign rendered also steadily grows as the render progresses. When the precentage reaches the end, 90% plus, the bouncing back and forth between values seems to increase in frequency. I decided to leave one project rendering overnight and it was still incomplete when I returned ten hours later.
When one of these renders is canceled, the entire work area remains unrendered in the timeline with a yellow or red bar. Even if a render is cancelled while still underway, the portions of the work area which were completed should appear as successfully rendered in the timeline.
The render pictured below, was 'Render all Effects in Work Area', rendering color correction and dissolves.
My media cache and scratch disk location was almost full prior to the render I performed today, so I went in and cleaned up both locations before beginining the render. Alas, that did not change the end render result. I have 'never-ending' render running right now...
As a work around to the issue, I have just been exporting the 'final' product to allow me to review it thoroughly without an lag or stutter due to lack of rendering.
The media in both projects where I have experienced this issue have ranged from Ikegami MXF to P2 and XDCAM EX. All the media in the current project, pictured above, is XDCAM EX sitting on an internal SSD.

Mystery solved! Of course, after going through the trouble of un-installing/re-installing the entire Adobe suite which proved to be of no consequence.
It all comes down to the third-party plug-in Rovi Total Code for Adobe Premiere Pro. I am currently using version 6.0.2. The plug-in is required to proeprly package our Ikegami MXF media as one clip with audio and video when improted into PPro. Any sequence based on a Rovi Total Code preset will not render sucessfully and attempts to render to infinity.
To create a sequence for a new project, I always determine which media type within the project will be dominant and then drag a clip of that type to the 'New Item' icon in the project window to create a sequence which should match the source clip. It seems with Total Code in the mix, any sequence created by this drag/drop method resulted in a Total Code preset based sequence, which in theory should not be a problem, but is in reality. Below are a few screen shots which add support to this description.
Above are the sequence settings for a Rovi Total Code sequence created by a drag and drop of JVC HD media, which is structured the same as XDCAM EX media.
Above is a screen shot of a render of this Total Code sequence which is featured in the top of the image. The number of X of Y frames grows continously and the render will never reach an end point, but will eventually fill all available space on the Scratch disk.
Above is the render of the same video which was copied into a sequence created with an XDCAM EX sequence preset. The number of frames to be rendered remains fixed and the render reaches completion as it should. You can even note that the sequence updates with the green 'render complete' line as the render progresses.
Above are the import settings that are currently activated for the Total Code plug-in.
I have tested the drag/drop 'New Item' sequence creation method for our three main media types: XDCAM EX (JVC), P2 MXF, and IKegami MXF. All result in a Total Code preset based sequence which will not render. I will avoid using that method for sequence creation to avoid the issue. I also plan ot inform Total Code of the bug in their package. Unless, Adobe, you think it is on your end?
