Strange vertical lines - unresponsive phone

Hello! I have an iPhone 4s, and recently a friend dropped it and smashed the screen. I got it repaired, and then I noticed what looked like a broken pixel at the bottom of the screen. After noticing this, my phone has randomly gone black, unresponsive for x amount of time, and then it will flash up with a white screen with strange lines which disappear over an hour or two, leaving me unable to use my phone. It happened again, but I was left with coloured lines such as green and blue vertically on my phone screen. I sent my phone to be repaired by the previous person and they are unable to find anything wrong - what could it be? Many thanks in advance

That you dropped it and you had a 3rd party fix your screen, who probably messed it up even more.  Or your phone was damage internally.

  • Strange Vertical Line

When I adjust the screen forward on my 15", a blue vertical line appears on the right side of my screen. When I push my display back, the line will sometimes change colors as I begin to push, but then disappear. The line appears more vivid on black backgrounds, i.e. spaces, so I used my mad photoshop skills to recreate what it looks like:

Is this a problem I should take to Apple and would applecare cover it?
    Thanks

Yes, if you have Apple Care they will cover this and repair it. Here is a similar thread with some additional detail about the problem:

  • Strange vertical lines in iPhone app icon

I've imported a standard non-transparent PNG into Xcode 3.2.3. The icon is displayed just fine in Photoshop, Finder and in Xcode's preview. However, when the icon is built into the app and displayed on both my iPod Touch and in the iPhone simulator, light black vertical lines have appeared, aligned with the left-most and right-most black pixels in my icon.
Here's a screen shot showing the buggy icon above and the correct icon below:

Has anyone seen this before? What can I do to fix it? I've used this same image with a white background and saw no problems.

Somehow, the problem was fixed (???).
Some additional info about this image:
    - Created in Photoshop CS3
    - Background color in question is #e6f2ff
    - Adjusting the hue of the color to 0 degrees (light red, #ffe6e6) yields a correct-looking icon
    - Adjusting the hue BACK to blue #e6f2ff yielded a correct image
    - The only different between today and yesterday was that I restarted my OS

  • Strange Vertical lines and pixelation issues with my Powerbook screen...Hel

I have got a problem with mt LCD screen which now permanently displays lines of "dead" pixels, but they can't be dead because they chaneg all the time. If I move a window, I get lots more, which are created by the edge of the window, like a ghosting? Does that make sense?
I have taken a screen grab, but not sure how to feature it in these forums. Anyone got any ideas or know about this problem?
I have had a similar problem with this and other laptops, but it has always been a temporary thing before, when I had overloaded the system or something, and I got 'ghosting' from the trailing edge of a window, but this is permanently there?

I have now attached a monitor to the PB, and it happens on the monitor too...maybe suggesting something wrong with the graphics card or logic board, rather than the screen itself. When I type this message, I get strange red 'ghosting' lines where the cursor moves across the page.It reminds me of the 'Etch-o-sketch' game, where you draw lines, and then wipe them off. I can move a window from left to right and get these ghosting lines. When I move the window back right to left, they erase the lines to the left of the window, but I get more to the trailing right edge of the window...i.e. on the right of the screen.
Scrolling also removes these pixels, but creates new ones elsewhere.
    Any ideas?

  • I get vertical lines below the text when I type

After upgrading to Firefox 4 in Windows 7 I get vertical line that appear below what I type. This is not happening with other browsers. Anybody else experiencing this or have a solution?

This problem should not be because of hardware acceleration and I think I found the answer. I was getting odd graphical iisues in Firefox 4. Not just with the strange vertical lines. By disabling hardware accelration it did indeed fix the issue with the lines underneath where I typed in boxes. But the other problems were still an issue. I tried to fix the other issue by disabling all my addons and it did not make any difference. BUT when I restarted Firefox 4 in safe mode it did. Which led me to believe something else was at play here.
I remembered the UserChrome.css I had in my Firefox profile folder. I renamed that file and restarted Firefox. All my graphical bugs vanished. Out of curiousity I also enabled hardware acceleration. Voila! No more vertical lines either!
Now I did a reinstall of Firefox 4 just to check if it created a UserChrome.cc file but it did not. So I can only assume that there is something in that old file that others have when upgrading from Firefox 3 that causes this issue and other graphic probs.
I advise anyone who noticed this issue to try renaming UserChrome.css if it exists and see if it resolves the issue or not.

  • 15" LCD has many thin colored vertical lines. HELP!

I have Model # a1286 I think. It is a mid-2009 model. There are so many vertical, and some horizontal, lines blocking a third of my screen. It looks like there is a crack but the glass isn't broken, just lines on screen. HELP! I have no warranty, this started exactly 3 months after 1 yr. warranty was up and I have no Applecare. I know part or all of the problem is the LCD because a screenshot does not show the lines. If you press on the screen, the lines change color or it just adds more lines.
I am 3 hours from an Apple store but I will take it I have to.
It is not the same as the "strange vertical lines" issue. Each line is the width of a pin but goes down the whole screen and colors are pink, red, green, blue, yellow and light blue and there is now a BIG thick white bars with the lines over them (sese pic).
I attached an iphone picture but it is kind of dark. I will retake a brighter picture tomorrow.

The picture is OK; it tells the story quite well.
Can you connect an external monitor? If the problem goes away on the external, that indicates a fault in the built-in display assembly, but not the graphics chipset or the logic board.

  • So, I dropped my phone today on the cement, it works...with minor annoying glitches, has nasty bluish vertical lines and the picture is a tad distorted as well. :/ Does this mean I need to spend tons of money to get this fixed? Ahhhh! Help!

Try restarting the iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

  • VERTICAL LINES ON HALF OF SCREEN AND UNRESPONSIVE

I have a 6 plus 128 gb gray ATT and all of a sudden half of my screen had vertical line and was unresponsive I took screen shots bit it wouldn't show so I took pics and video from my wives iPhone 6 and also my iPhone restarts all of a sudden even in calls. I made an appointment with apple for tomorrow they better fix it!

Either the display is out or the board is going out.  Either way book a genius bar appointment or walk into one to get on a waitlist.  This will not be something you can fix on your own.

  • Strange colorful vertical lines when opening vlc or skype (video)

Well, this is my first post, and I am writing it because of a problem i encountered with my iMac (late 2008 model 20'', 2.4 GHz).
    The problem is:
When I am video-calling on Skype, after a while the top left corner of my dock icons disappears... After some minutes my iMac display freezes with these vertical lines, usually green. The paradox is that I can speak to my skype buddy for some minutes but eventually it freezes completely and the only solutions is to turn it off by pressing the power button for six seconds. In the condition of the lines I can't sleep my iMac by pressing the power button once. The Same Problem I have when using VLC. Some more information: when the top left corner of my dock icons dissapears, if i sleep my mac and wake it, it reappears. I have read in other discussions that the problem with the disappearing corners of the dock icons has to do with the UI of the operating system. So I Am Asking, do you know what these vertical green lines are, if anyone has the same problem? How can I fix it? I believe that it has to do with the operating system or the UserInterface! This problem does not appear in a PowerBook G4 with PPC inside. I think is an Intel-based problem!
Last note: These lines are moving very slowly from left side to right side of the screen!
I had this problem when running on 10.5.5 and 10.5.6
    Any Help is welcome!
I take two pictures of my iMac in this state and i want to share it! I Don't know how....

  • Dropped my phone now blue vertical lines

I dropped my iphone 4s and the screen is not cracked, but it only shows blue vertical lines. Help!

First try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.  If that helps, great.
But it probably will not and you should then go to the Apple store genius bar.  Be sure and make a backup first, in iCloud is best, so that you do not lose content if the decision is to replace the unit.  If you have an iCloud backup, that can be restored by the techs while you wait.

  • Strange Blue Vertical Lines All Over Anything that White on the Screen

My screen always showed blue vertical lines on anything that is white on my Macbook Pro screen, but when I moved the screen back and forth a few times the blue lines just gone. It always happens when I took the Macbook Pro from a bag and waked it up and once and a while during normal usage. I took picture when the blue lines happen but I couldn't post it on the forum.
I sent my Macbook Pro to local Apple Center but they couldn't find the problem. They has checked the screen connector for me but the problem still exist.
Anyone, any idea what causing this?

    BJ_pkt
Don't get me wrong and I don't think anyone like to have dead pixel, do you?
I understand the LCD screen could come with dead pixel. I can live with a few dead pixels and I have no problem except any dead pixel from USAGE. With the new notebook or LCD screen I have a choice to check for the dead pixel and other false before I take any of them back home and if there any dead pixel happen after I am start using them I can accept it.
The thing that difficult for me to accept is the replaced LCD came with the dead pixel (my previous screen didn't have any dead pixel) and I don't have any other choice but to accept it. I feel like I have been forced to accept it.
My perception on Apple product quality still good. I will continue buy Apple product. But I disappoint in Apple service policy (not quality as I mention before, sorry) because I expect they would be better or different from others.
ps. They changed my screen because they don't have a replacement only for screen cable so they replace the whole screen.

  • Iphone 5 gray vertical lines

    Any ideas:
I have my mother's iPhone 5.  Screen broke so we had it repaired at the Apple Store.  So now the same device has a "newer" display assembly.  However, all of a sudden, the screen went blank.  Apple Store acknowledged the issue and replaced the device.  However, two months ago, on the phone there are gray vertical lines and the touch is not responsive.  The phone works otherwise except for the LCD and touch screen.  The phone is out of warranty so I bought a display assembly, replaced it myself.  Since it was an "LCD" issue, replacing it would solve the problem.  However, even with the replaced display, the same problem persists.  I still have gray vertical lines and touch screen is unresponsive.
All connectors are seated properly.  Powercycled the battery.  Any ideas?

don't be afraid to upgrade, it's surely an hardware problem. If that thing happens again, go to apple store, they will repair it or gave you an other one, the warranty is one year .
